Why can't i find iWeb on my new MacBook Pro

I have a new and completly updated MacBook Pro with OS X version 10.8.2, but i can't find iWeb in my system. How come? And where can I find it? Maybe download iWeb elsewhere?

iWeb, along with iDVD, was discontinued by Apple from before Lion was released.  If you have the disks that came with your previous Mac you can use the disks that came with it to install iWeb.  Or if you have your previous Mac you can just copy iWeb from it to your new Mac.
Be warned that iWeb 2 does not play well with Mt. Lion.  iWeb 3, however, works fine with Mt. Lion.  If you didn't have iWeb 3 previously you can get it by purchasing iLife 11 or 09 from a 3rd party retailier like Amazon.com: iLife 11 or eBay.com.
The following will help you launch your website in iWeb the first time:
In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

Why can't I connect to iCloud on my macbook pro?

Not sure what you've tried so far to connect. But, make sure you have an Internet connection and log into iCloud with your Apple ID/password from System Preferences/iCloud.
If the OS X you're running is prior to 10.7, you won't be able to use iCloud as this feature was added to OS X beginning with OS X Lion (10.7).

I have recently had to fire my web designer who was using iWeb.  Now I'm trying to figure out how to get the site to open in iWeb on my new MacBook Pro.  Is there a way?

Firstly iWeb CAN'T IMPORT any kind of published html code as it has no import facility.  You can however add html code, javascript and css by selecting the html snippet and placing it on your page the entering the code in here and clicking on Apply.  You DO NOT create a shape as you say - you use the html snippet and place your code in there.
There are not really a lot of ways in which you can write code - if you want to enter small amounts of code, then you would use an ordinary text editor to do this such as Text Edit on a Mac or Text Wrangler.  If you want to add code to iWeb like this, then you would either use the html snippet method in iWeb itself or you would have to publish the site to a local folder from iWeb and open the relevant html page with a text editor and add the additional code in this way and then publish.  However, if he decided to add the code with a text editor, then you would have to upload the pages directly to the server using an ftp client - if you try to upload the site directly from iWeb, all the extra code will be overwritten.
As for checking whether the site was created using iWeb, all you need do is view the site in Safari and then click on View and then select View Source Code and it will tell you.
Even thoough extra code was added to the site and he might well have done this by publishing to a local folder and adding the code with a text editor, he should still have the domain file for the site too.
Ask again.  I'm sure that for adding quick code, most would not want to use programmes such as Dreamweaver, but a simple text editor will suffice.  As OT already said, if he claims that he does not have the domain.sites file, then try Flux 4 which is a web design programme and has full import facilities.  At least this way, if he just gives you the published version of the site, you have some way of opening it.
You can download a free trial of Flux 4 and you can also purchase the full version from the Mac App Store if you decide you like it.

Where can I find iPhoto on my new macbook pro?

iLife apps don't come preinstalled on new computers. Now, open App Store > Updates and accept iMovie, iPhoto and GarageBand, so they'll be registered to your Apple ID and you'll be able to download them whenever you want

Can Windows 7 be installed on my new MacBook Pro, through my network connection?  The disc would be in my Windows desktop.

I wouldn't recommend installing through a network connection.
    For a Virtual Machine:
If you have the Win 7 media (DVD), use an app like PowerISO or MagicISO to make an ISO file of the install disc and use that.
    For BootCamp:
Use the original install media and BootCamp Assistant, to install from your DVD Drive.

  • HT1329 My large iTunes library is on an external hard drive. Can I set up iTunes on my new Macbook Pro and copy the library to it or are there any pitfalls?

I have my large iTunes library on an external hard drive. Can I set up ITunes on my new Macbook Pro and transfer/copy this library to the internal hard drive or are there any problems I should be aware of?

ITs an old Iomega 100gb external HD that has about 90gb of music on it. The Macbook has a 500gb HD. I would like to put the iTunes library on the internal HD so I have room to expand.
    Phil0124 wrote:
You can copy it to the internal hard drive as long as it fits on it. How big is your library, and how big is your internal HD?
The only thing you do not want to do is over-stuff the internal hard drive. The OS needs some space to operate correctly, so if your iTunes library uses up more than say 80 to 85% of the internal HD's available space it may not be a good idea to transfer it over.
With that said, the internal HD will provide slightly faster access to the library than the external would, but other than that, you can point iTunes to the external drive just fine.

  • Why can't I receive a fax on my MacBook Pro?

I have just purchased an Apple USB modem to be able to use the fax software that came with my new MacBook Pro.
I sent a fax to Japan - no problem - it went fine and was received.
However, I was not able to receive the reply. The incoming fax was not recognized by the MBP. I set the number of rings at 2 for the fax to be automatically picked up by my computer, but the phone kept ringing and the computer never got the fax. I checked all the settings and they are all OK. The menu bar pull down for fax never even showed me "Answer Now" to let me manually get the fax. All it shows it Status : Idle... in grey - not clickable.
I quickly turned on the G4 and asked Japan to resend the fax. I got it fine.
I've read a few other entries here - seems like the fax software with OS X is not very good.
Does any one have any suggestions for what I can do? (My G4 is dying and I don't want to rely on it for faxing.)
OR could it be my new modem? But it worked fine for sending...

I don't have Leopard but I've seen Leopard's Sys Prefs Print& fax and it's kinda sorta similar to Tiger's. So I'm going from memory here, okay? In Sys Prefs' Print&Fax, you should see a list of printers and fax modems on the left hand side. If you single-click on the Apple USB modem that should be on that list and authenticate, it should "ungray" a "Receive Options" button. Then click on it. A new window opens. Is the "receive faxes on this computer" checkbox checked?
Or are you still running Tiger on your MBP? Then in Sys Prefs' print&fax, faxing panel, is the "receive faxes on this computer" checkbox checked?

  • Why can I log into some websites on my MacBook Pro and not on my MacPro?

Only just started happening...I have used 3 different browsers on my MacPro and still can't log into some webpages where a password is required.
Flickr, eBay, some on line shopping sites....
i have deleted cookies, cache, history, everything. Reinstalled the application (Firefox and Safari) but nothing.
Go to my new MacBook Pro and it connects..
I plan to do a full combo download and install of 10.6.8 however can't work out what's broken? I use Virus Barrier and MacScan but have (I believe) turned them off.

    Thanks for the advice everyone.
Working through them without much luck...
    New user didn't help.
    Have turned off MacScan.
    No improvement as yet.
P.S. Not sure how MacScan and Virus Barrier X would interact as they seem to do different things... I got both of these as apps in bundles so didnt really specifically buy them.
I can't see any proxy setting in network preferences so will need to go into virus barrier and check.
Reading the "recommended text" on Virus's for homework.
Tomorrow it will be Appzapper for them both if the patient shows no sign of improvement.

  • How do I transfer iweb site to new macbook pro?

I used migration assistant to transfer from old macbook to new macbook pro. Both are using lion. When I open iWeb on the new computer it does not show my site. Both computers are connected by firewire, where do I find the files? This site is not published to mobile me, it is hosted by godaddy.

To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder. Once you've unhidden the library it's a simple matter of copying the domain file from your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder on the old Mac to the same folder on the new one.  You may have to create an iWeb folder on the new Mac if there is not one.

  • Can I run windows xp on a new macbook pro retina display?

I would like to know if it is possible to downgrade boot camp in order to run windows xp on the brand new macbook pro.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The hardware of your MacBook is just not compatible with Windows XP. You won't find any computer with the specs of your Mac running Windows XP, and Apple doesn't provide Boot Camp drivers for Windows XP in your MacBook.
Instead, what you can do is to install Windows XP on a virtual machine created with Parallels, VMware Fusion or VirtualBox. As your MacBook Pro is very powerful, you won't notice any performance difference between Boot Camp and the virtual machine unless you need Windows for things that require a good graphic card. In this case, consider the option of installing a 64-bit Windows 7 or Windows 8 version by using Boot Camp > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5634
