Why can't I programmatically align a picture to a graph?

Labview 7.0; Mac or PC
OK, so it sounds like a simple problem, right:
- bottom line: I want a graphical plane (picture with transparent
background) overlaid on an intensity vs XY data set (Intensity graph).
And I want the two image planes to overlay properly, so I want to do
the alignment programmatically (draw/plot areas of picture and
intensity graphs to be the same size and in the same location).
Here is the problem that I run into:
- summary: Some of the (important) property node positional and size
attributes of the intensity graph return strange values that therefore
can not be used as input to positional properties of the picture.
OK, more specifically, what I tried and saw:
- create a picure, of any size, on a front panel. Make the background transparent, and make the label not-visible
- create an intensity graph, of any size, on a front panel. Make the label not-visible.
- make a property node for the intensity graph and another one for the picture
- set the draw area of the picture = plot area of the intensity graph.
OK, that was easy, and works fine (you can manually align the two to
see that this works, but then mis-align the two to continue)
- note that there is no property to identify the origin of the plot area of the intensity graph directly.
- Hmmmm, maybe the scale marker bounds on the graph can be used to
(somewhat closely, but maybe not exactly) identify the origin of plot
area of the graph...
- set the position>left property of the picture = X scale>marker>position>left
- set the position>top property of the picture = Y scale>marker>position>top
- IT WON"T BE ANYWHERE even close (the alignment is way off)
It gets better:
- on the front panel, move the graph up maybe 50 pixels, and to the right about 50 pixels
- run the vi again and see that the picture moves to the right as expected, but has not moved up at all
There's more, but I don't want to complicate the picture any more. I'll
just summarize by saying that it appears that some of the intensity
graph-components position/size properties change in value based on the
number or types of properties requested.
I haven't tried aligning the graph to the picture instead, but I'm
guessing that I'm missing something stupidly simple in this example,
and someone can help to restore my sanity.
Thanks, in advance

altenbach,
Thanks for the reply. Sorry, I didn't realize how easy it is to attach
a vi. OK, attached is the simple vi. I made the vi even simpler... it
matches my text more exactly. Interestingly, the result is a little
different: now, if you move the graph and rerun the picture moves
accordingly... but still, the picture is not positioned as I'd expect.
Also, thanks for note about scale changes (and associated plot area
size changes)... I had thought of that, but hadn't figured out yet if
it was going to be an issue for my application; and if so, how I'd deal
with it.
I'm not quite ready to upgrade all the existing code to Labview 8 -
much of the code is fielded to customers so there is a business aspect
to work out. But, I'm looking forward to starting to experiment with
Labview 8.
I'm not sure I appreciated your "image indicator" idea. Maybe you mean
use either a picture for both graph and picture; or use graph for both
graph and picture. This is not a bad idea based on other aspects of the
application that I ran into. I wanted a picture to make use of the draw
tools. But, I need to draw ovals and rectangles; rotate and pan them
individually and as a group. I found that I had to build the oval and
rectangle shapes (out of line segments) my self in order to get the
rotation function. So, if I'm just using line segments (that I define)
to build arbitrarily rotated ovals and rectangles, I could use an XY
graph and get zoom and pan for free (so to speak).
Thanks

Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Then reset: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the apple, then let go. (No data loss)

Why can't I send or receive picture messages on my iPhone 4s?

Make sure that MMS is turned on in Settings. Sometimes that can get turned off during an update, if you recently did that. Next try would be a reset. If that doesn't help, then contact the carrier, as SMS and MMS are carrier specific functions.

  • Why can't I view all my pictures from macbookpro?

I can only see some of my pictures from my macbookpro on my ATV2.  I'm seeing 148 pictures and have about 500 in iPhoto which includes our daughters recent wedding.  Please help before the wife kills me!!!

There might be a few reasons.
I assume the photos have been added in the iTunes advanced menu.
The library may not yet have updated (try restarting iTunes)
The photos are in the wrong format, what format are they in.
The photos are stored somewhere that's causing a problem (external drive, network drive etc etc)
The photos, their folder or their attached comments use unsupported characters (/ for example)

  • Why Can't I View Multi-media Pictures on My iPhone

Why is it when someone sends me a picture associated with a text message, I have to go to www.viewmymessage.com and enter those ridiculous ID and passwords to see what someone sent???????? No other phone I've ever owned required me to do that.
OK, so let's assume this is just the way Applie wants it. How am I suppose to remember the ID and password and enter them at that website. I mean, how lame is that????
Can anyone speak to this issue?

    MMS going away?
Dude you are kidding right? If not than you need to think on where you get your information. MMS is not going to disapaite anytime soon. It's easier than emailing the photo.
If they would rid it than I'm sure there'd be a huge lashback from consumers seeing how it's widly used to share photos easily with others. Instead of going I a horrible site or having to go to the email... Alot of phones don't have email capabilities or the web to acess

  • Why can't I send and receive pictures?

I have the 3G and it is my understanding that the update to allow a fix for picture MMS messages was done a long time ago. I did the update (along with my wife) and for some reason, I have never been able to send or recieve pictures? On the other hand, my wife does it just fine.
I do get the option when clicking on pictures to send through MMS and I also have the camera icon when sending a text. So I can upload picture to MMS but I always get the dreaded red exclamation point when trying to send a picture. And I still receive the dreaded website and code to view pictures sent to me.
I have no idea why I can do this and my wife can? Anyone have any ideas?

    True story. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3573
Note: If your iPhone meets the system requirements, your wireless account may still need to be provisioned to send and receive MMS messages. Many carriers will automatically provision your wireless account for MMS when you first send an MMS message. Other carriers will provision customers' wireless accounts for MMS automatically in large groups at different times. If necessary, check with your carrier to confirm you are provisioned to send or receive MMS messages.

I wonder if for some reason your's didn't get provisioned when you sent your first message. They may need to do it manually.

Do you have MMS enabled - settings - message - MMS - on
Are you provisioned by your phone carrier to use MMS?
If all else fails you will need to contact your phone carrier as MMS is a carrier feature.

  • Automator: Why can't I add "Take a Picture" to workflow?

I'm pretty sure the digital cameras I have are supported for this action, but I can't even get to that point because when I drag the "Take a Picture" action to the workflow, it won't "stick". Other actions such as "Take a Video Snapshot" add normally, but the "Take a Picture" action just snaps back to the library when I try to drag and drop.
I'm automator novice, so I am hoping there is a simple answer to this question. Perhaps it can only be added to follow certain other actions? Or I have to somehow explicitly add the camera device earlier in the workflow? Any ideas?

    bizarre update:
I'm starting to think this is a bug.
I tried the record button in Automator to try to take a picture in Image Capture and see if I could capture the action that way. In order to do this I was prompted to turn on "Enable access for assistive devices" in the Universal Access system setting. I didn't get as far as testing the image capture (no camera was plugged in) -- instead I was playing around and recorded the launching of Photo Booth and snapping of a picture with the iSight. Suddenly all my Automator windows were disappeared, even though they were still listed under "Window" menu in Automator, and on closing Automator I was asked to save changes to them.
What does this all have to do with the Take a Picture action? Well, all of a sudden on reopening Automator it started working and I could add it to any workflow. Still no camera connected at that time, so the dropdown list was empty. I quickly created a workflow with a single Take a Picture action and saved it. On a subsequent opening of this workflow, the action was disappeared, the workflow was blank, and I could no longer add the Take a Picture action to anything.
I have since repeated this sequence, and it seems like the recording of the Photo Booth opening and snapshot does something unholy to Automator and then suddenly the Take a Picture action can be used.
Obviously I'm going to try to reproduce this more definitively and also try to take a picture with a workflow. But this kind blew my mind so I had to share. I will update again if I learn anything else.

  • Why can I not directly view iPhoto pictures from Finder?

When going into finder/Photos I cannot directly view my IPhoto's images. It displays the icon for iPhoto's to be opened so that the images can be viewed. Is there a way that the photos can be drectly displayed in finder, rather than launching the application?

    Yes but...
You can look inside the iPhoto Library easily enough but to what end?
Here's how: Right (or Control-) Click on the Library icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Now you can see inside. Your original photos, as imported from your camera, will be in the Masters folder (called the Originals folder in some versions).
But here's the thing:  Make no changes of any kind in this folder. Do not move, erase, delete, add or rename anything. If you do you risk significant dataloss
The innards of the iPhoto Library are like the engine of a car. There are no user-serviceable parts there. The inexperienced user will cause damage. The experienced user will not cause damage as s/he won't get involved there.
When you use iPhoto you are saying that you don't want to access your files via the Finder. iPhoto replaces the Finder for anything that you want to do with your photos. It works like this because iPhoto uses lots of virtualisation in its processes -  all non-destructive editors do.
So, why do you want to go in there?
To share a photo with some other app for editing?
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
To share a photo by email/ upload to a website etc?
For help accessing your photos in iPhoto see this user tip:

To get a good quality version of a Photo:

Basically, if you want to surf your photos via the  Finder then you don't want to use iPhoto.

  • Why can I no longer insert a picture in a header in the newest Pages?

Since updating pages I can no longer add a picture into a header. It doesn't matter if it's inline or floating. Cutting and pasting won't work either. It's been very tough not to throw my laptop out the window. I know this program pretty well at this point (at least before the update), and I'm completely out of ideas. If someone can help me figure this ridiculousness out I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Yep.
Simple answer: Go back to Pages '09 which is still in your Applications/iWork folder.
You don't have to do everything just because Apple says it is a great idea, when often it is not.
If you're NOT happy, and want to show it, clap your hands
If you're NOT happy, and want to show it, clap your hands
…then go to the App Store and review/rate Pages 5.
