Why can't I take the photos off my phone manually?

I have an Iphone. I'd like to just take the photos, videos and audio off the phone and put in a folder on an external hard drive.
1. Why can't I do this through Finder?
2. Is there an easy solution?

1. There is no Finder on an iPhone.  If you mean on your Mac, then you need to use iPhoto or Image Capture to export the photos from the iPhone to the computer.  Once on the computer you can do whatever you want with them.
2. You can use iPhoto or Image Capture, or other image editing App on your Mac get the pictures.

I have photos on my iphone 4 that i'm trying to transfer to iphoto.  The problem is when I plug the phone in, it only wants to transfer the new photos, not all.  How can I take all the photos off my phone and put them into iphoto? Even if there are duplicates, I'd like to make sure I get all the photos from my phone into iphoto.  Thanks

To see all the photos on the phone, including photos that have already been imported into iPhoto, deselect the "Hide Photos Already Imported" checkbox. If the camera contains photos that have already been imported into iPhoto, those photos are hidden by default.

  • I want to take the photos off my iPhone and put them directly onto an external hard disk. I want to bypass iPhoto altogether. When I link my iPhone to my computer, it only opens in iTunes, which only gives me the option to save my photos to iPhoto. Help!

I want to take the photos off my iPhone and put them directly onto an external hard disk - I don't have any room left on my computer. I want to bypass iPhoto altogether. When I link my iPhone to my computer, it only opens in iTunes, which only gives me the option to save my photos to iPhoto. Help!  This is seriously frustrating!.
Additionally, I'd like to be able to take the 2000+ photos out of iPhoto and put them on a disk in a folder. I have managed to export them to the hard disk but it's just plonked all 2000+ photos in a list - not ideal if I want to use it for anything else. And then I have to manually delete the photos from iPhoto. Is there not a quick and easy way of dealing with this?
Anyone got any bright ideas? Thanks for your help!

I too would like to be able to do this. Just put them where i want the. IFTT a scripting app will put the images in dropbox for you , but its been pretty iffy.

  • HT201317 I had my photo stream on and my icloud all set up, i just had the screen replaced and they somehow lost all the photos off my phone, but why wont the photo's reload back on to my iphone now that im connected to wifi again, where are all my photos

I had my photo stream on and my icloud all set up, i just had the screen replaced and they somehow lost all the photos off my phone, but why wont the photo's reload back on to my iphone now that im connected to wifi again, where are all my photos???

When photos are added to the photo stream album on a device (either due to a new photo having been taken or having been synced from another device using the stream) they remain in the album.  However, the syncing process involves copying the photos to the photo stream server where they are kept for a maximum of 30 days, up to 1000 photos.  If a device is reset or the stream is turned off or turned back on again (or in your case, the device was repaired), the photos that were on the device's photo stream album are gone and the only ones to appear are those that are currently on the servers (recall the 30 day limit).
If some of your photos are older than 30 days, then they are no longer stored on the cloud and hence are not synced down to the iphone.
Recall, photo stream is just a syncing service, it is not designed as a storage service for photos.  Always sync photos to a computer for archiving.

Do you get a send error message or a red "!" when you send?  Do you have a data plan on your account?  Check that your carrier has you provisioned for MMS.

  • Why can't I edit the photos I just imported from a usb flash drive?

Why Can't I edit the photos I just imported from a usb flash drive? I scanned them into a desktop pc, copied them onto a flash drive, imported them into iphoto. Once I remove the flash drive I'm unable to edit them. Says it can't find the original...or something like that. I appreciate any help you can give me! Trying to get a slide show ready for a funeral, therefore I have an approaching deadline, eek!

Copy the photos from the drive to your desktop import then again and delete the images. If the same mistake appears, there is something wrong with your import settings into iPhoto - > may be you didn't imported the original files to your iphoto library.

  • How do I delete all the photos off my phone

how do I delete all the photos off my phone ?

    Hi tehdeh,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
There are a couple of ways to do this.  As a precaution, I like to import my pictures to my computer first ... which gives me a backup of the photos, AND gives me the option to delete them after import.  This article explains how:

If you have synced photos or albums from iTunes to your iPhone, you can remove them that way as well:

And again exactly are you doing? How are you trying to attach them?  The basic answer is to use the media browser in the lower left hand corner of the attach window under Media ==> photos. ==> iPhoto

  • Why can't I place the photos in my photo book

Why can't I place a photo on my photo book

Because stuff is happening. Or not.
And with that amount of info, that's the best anyone can do.
Before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.

  • Why can't I edit the photos??

I've worked with photoshop before, but this is the first time i've tried that I can't edit the photo I want to use. It keep saying: could not complete youre request because the smart object is not directly editabel.
It doesn't really matter what photo i choose, it say it on the all of them exept for 2.

Sounds like it can't find the internal data. Try rasterizing the layer and see if it rasterizes.

  • Why can't I see the photos in an album when I use the edit tool.

I can see the film strip of photos in the album at the bottom of the screen, and when I select one of the photos the name and order number of the photo come up but the window where the photo should be but it is just blank.  Any idea what gives?

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/ Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
If none of these help: As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Why can't I rotate the photo in new keynote?

    Dear,
When I upgrade my keynote to new version. I found I have loss some characteristics of keynote which amazed me before.
One of those is that I can't rotate the photo in my slide, just like I did that before in the previous version.
Another is I can't have any preview of the module while I choose theme. This is also lost.
Anyone has the same feeling with me?

To rotate a graphic, click on it... then click the command key on your keyboard (usually next to the option key)... then hover over any corner of your graphic to turn the cursor into a double-arrowed line... just drag it and watch your graphic rotate...
... Or, click on the graphic and choose the "Arrange" tab - this brings up the Rotate option (towards the bottom).

If that phone has been synced in iTunes, you can restore from the backup after having restored the phone.
There is also a little mac app that can read the iPhone backups that are in iTunes, called ibackupviewer.
Then when there is no backup of the iPhone: read the following aricle:

  • Why can't I see the video icon in phone booth now that I upgraded to lion

I upgraded my mac to Lion and can no longer make videos in phonebooth only the camera icon is available.

There is no rotate icon in the Photos App. I don't have one on the iPad original and I'm running iOS 4.3.3. There will be in iOS 5 I think but it is not an available feature currently. There are third party apps that let you rotate, crop and edit but not the Photos App.
