Why does 8X always switch to "Roaming service"?

Hello, I've had my HTC 8X for about a month now, since it came out, and I've noticed something kind of strange. For some reason, under the Cellular menu in the settings, it sometimes says my active network is "Roaming service" instead of Verizon Wireless. It happens pretty often, completely randomly. When I'm it's connected to the Roaming service, my data speeds seem to be slower, and I can't receive picture messages. Nothing else seems to be affected though. I can still send/receive calls and texts, and I still have access to a 3G data network. But why doesn't it stay on Verizon? It wouldn't really bother me much, but when I'm connected to Verizon it seems to be much faster.
I know it's not my coverage, because I haven't had this problem on my previous HTC Trophy, and when I'm connected to Verizon, I have more bars than on Roaming service. Also, I don't live in an LTE covered area, so when on Verizon and Roaming, I'm always on 3G.
And if I'm correct, Verizon and Sprint have a roaming agreement, so when I'm roaming, it's free and on Sprint's network.... just want to make sure I'm not being charged for this at all...
So anyways, how can I fix this? I'd prefer to not have to do a factory reset.... Thanks for any replies!

Hello cody503,
Thank you for sharing your wireless question with the community. We understand how important it is to have consistent and reliable wireless service! After all, that’s why you chose us as your wireless provider! I would like the opportunity to clarify this for you! As we all know, Verizon Wireless have the largest coverage in the country but there are some areas that our customers roam off another carrier at. When roaming, you may see the verbiage that you spoke of in your post. Since your Verizon Wireless phone is designed to pick up our network over others, you will experience a HUGE difference in network performance. I would like to confirm that the area that you were in is indeed an extended area. May I ask what city, state, and zip code were you in when you got the “roaming service” notice? Can I assume that you device doesn’t have any liquid or physical damage? Once you provide me with this information then I can check the area and get back to you. I’m looking forward to your next reply.
Thank you…

Why does Firefox always block any link I try to open going to a web page when I don't have pop up blocker on? First off they are not even pop ups....your crap blocks everything and don't save user names &/or passwords when you have it checked. Also in your tutorials about solving this issue says it has the word "OPTION" .......no, it never says option to allow you to bypass it and etc. Only thing is says is "ALLOW" . That would be nice , but the problem is it will not allow it from then on. It only allows it right then and then you have to refresh...after that to open again it blocks it again.....HOW STUPID?!!!!!
It always say that this is preventing this page from automatically redirecting to another page. THIS IS WHAT I AM TRYING TO DO...GO TO ANOTHER PAGE........I DON'T NEED YOUr BROWSERS PERMISSION TO DO THAT. THAT IS WHAT A *%#$&*(&*%$$%% BROWSER IS FOR TO GO TO OTHER PAGES......THEY ARE NOT POP UPS!!!!!
YOU STUPID BROWSER ACTUALLY BLOCKS EVERYTHING AND THAT SUX!!!

  • Why does Bridge always sort images by rating instead of by date modified?

Why does Bridge always sort images by rating instead of by date modified?
This drives me bonkers.  Everytime I look for an image I've been working on, I go to Bridge and I'm always presented with the images sorted by rating instead of by date.
Then I click on the microscopic sized, extremely tiny arrow that allows one to choose 'sort by date modified' and I resort them to find the file I need.  So that's always 3 extra clicks to find the image.
WHY can't Bridge sort images by date modified and STAY that way every time I come back?
    Thanks for any help.
I know I could just keep the recent files rated the highest, but still, I'm wondering if there's a way to make it work the way I'd like it to work?
    jn
p.s.  Note to Adobe: Please make the selection button for sorting images arrow larger than a fraction of the size of the period at the end of this sentence.  Thanks.

WHY can't Bridge sort images by date modified and STAY that way every time I come back?
By default it does stay at the latest selected sort order so this could mean it is due to your install.
First of all try to reset the preferences for Bridge, hold down option key while restarting Bridge and choose reset preferences. This sets it all to default. First try if the problem is solved then set prefs again to your own custom wishes.
Also check and repair permissions for the OSX itself (Apple has disk utility in the utility folder for this job, and there are other 3th party applications)
And be sure to have the latest update for Bridge. (Bridge CS5 should be 4.0.5.11)
In addition to the method Tai Lao pointed you already to there is a third option, use right click mouse button in content window and the pop up menu has also the sort option at the bottom of the row

  • Why does iPhoto always open/appear at launch?

Why does iPhoto always open/appear at launch? Someone used my computer under another account, and now my preferences seem to be changed. How do I fix it so iPhoto must me opened manually?

    Some possibilities:
Right click on the iPhoto icon in the Dock. Is Open at Log In Selected?
Check your System Preferences -> Accounts -> Log In Items
Is there a camera or anything that your Mac might think is a camera (flash drive, USB Hard Disk formatted to a FAT format, phone) attached to your Mac. If so, disconnect it. If you don't want to disconnect it, set iPhoto to "Do Nothing" when a camera is attached. You do this in the iPhoto Preferences.

  • Why does my IPad 2 say No Service?

Why does my IPad 2 say no service even though cellular data is turned on?

Not sure. Either you don't have service - not in range of an available cell tower, or your iPad has a problem.
Any change after powering your iPad off and on?

Do you have gfxCardStatus installed?  Is your monitor set to "Integrated" or "Discrete".  You want it set to Discrete to drive the external HDMI display.
Try resetting the PRAM and SMC

Do you have another HDMI display you can test against (your neighbor's HDMI capable TV).
Do you have friend that can test the cable using their Mac and maybe their TV or a monitor that has HDMI input.

  • Why does IPhoto always crop pictures when printing?

Whenever I print from iphoto the picture alway gets cropped automatically. Why does it do this and how can I stop it? This results in heads and feet often being cropped out of the printed photo which is frustrating. When I double click on a photo to view it full screen I can see the full photo however the actual print, regardless of print size chosen, ends up being cropped. I use an HP C7280 printer.

Photos from a digital camera are in a size ratio of 4:3 which is not one of the standard print sizes. Therefore the photo must be cropped in order to fit the select print size. You should crop the photo yourself in iPhoto before printing so you get exactly what you want with no surprises.
What iPhoto does is take the smaller dimension and scale it to fit that dimension in the print.  The larger dimension will obviously be larger than the print so it will be cropped to fit, usually on both ends.
Bottom line: do the cropping yourself to get what you want.

  • Why does iCal always open when a reminder pops up?

This one has been driving me bonkers.
I have alerts/reminders set for nearly all of the events/appointments, etc that I put in iCal, and I use iCloud to keep my calendar synchronized between two computers and my iPhone.  It all works *nearly* flawlessly.
What makes me crazy is that every time an alert pops up to remind me about something in my calendar, iCal opens on my two computers.  I don't need iCal to open.
Why does it do this?  And is there a way to tell it to stop?

If you had camcorder files at the top level of any drive, they would look something like this in the Finder.
If you had a Disk Image or a SDHC card or a Camera mounted, you would see it in the Finder along the bottom left side under Devices. In my photo, Gail Graduation is a Disk Image, not one of my normal disk drives. I can click the triangle symbol to the right to dismount it.

  • Why does Bridge always lose track of the Favorites folders I put into it?

    (Latest version of Bridge)
I haven't used Bridge in a while because of this problem.
When you click on one of your Favorites folders in the panel on the far
left side, the folder comes up with a question mark and it can't find anything!
    Why does this happen?
Even though the original location of the files or folders was never moved or renamed.. Bridge loses track of the folders I put into it?
How do I keep it from doing that?

    Here's the boilerplate text referenced by Omke;
I still advocate Repairing Permissions (with Apple's Disk Utility) before AND after any system update or upgrade, as well as before AND after installing any software that requires an installer that asks for your password.
I have seen software installations go sour because the installer did not find everything as and where it should be.
I have also seen software installations go bad because the installer did not clean up after itself properly and did not leave everything as and where it should be.
This is just my own personal opinion and practice based on my own observations. Others may disagree and that's OK. I can only base my routines and my advice to others on my own experience and conclusion. I don't pretend to know why others believe otherwise.
Repairing Permissions after the fact (i. e. not immediately before and after an install) may NOT help. Try it anyway, though.

Additionally, if your machine does not run 24/7 so that it runs the daily, weekly and monthly Cron Scripts in the middle of the night as intended by Apple, run Cocktail (shareware) as well.
Cron Scripts are maintenance routines designed by Apple to run on a daily, weekly and monthly basis in the middle of the night.
If you don't run them, you WILL run into trouble, sooner rather than later.
Here's an excerpt from the Apple tech doc http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107388
Mac OS X performs background maintenance tasks at certain times if the computer is not in sleep mode. If your computer is shut down or in sleep at the designated times, the maintenance does not occur. In that case, you may want or need to run these manually.
Mac OS X periodically runs background tasks that, in part, remove system files that are no longer needed. This includes purging older information from log files or deleting certain temporary items. These tasks do not run if the computer is shut down or in sleep mode. If the tasks do not run, it is possible that certain log files (such as system.log) may become very large.
    Also, from: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106978
The disk activity generated by find is a normal part of file system maintenance, used for tasks such as removing invisible temporary files that are used by the system. It is scheduled to occur early in the morning at 03:15 everyday, 04:30 on Saturdays, and 05:30 on the first day of each month.
    NOTE:
There have been comments to the effect that Apple "fixed" this in 10.4.2 and later versions of the OS, but I have not been able to verify this to my satisfaction. The reference in the 10.4.2 release notes are far from explicit on this subject.

  • Why does my Verizon iPhone 4S Data Service Switch from 3G to 2G as soon as I want to use it for "data-intensive" apps such as Netflix?

I have an iPhone 4S that I purchased new from Verizon back in January 2012.  I've started to notice that the 3G data coverage appears and disappears according to whether or not I'm actually using the data.  For instance: When the phone is stationary and not using the data, it indicates that I have 3G data coverage.  When I click on an app like Netflix (without moving the phone from it's stationary position), data coverage either immediately or soon thereafter switches to a 2G data coverage connection (indicated with an "o" for Verizon).  Has anyone else had this same problem?  I can't say that this happens everywhere, but in particular, it happens at my work every single time I would like to be able to watch episodes of tv shows on my lunch break.

Yeah I'll need to call and ask because it's very possible that the tower is "congested" as I work in a large city.  Hardly seems fair that I would get a diminished data speeds due to congestion of a large city that Verizon indicates it has full coverage on all of their "data coverage" maps.  I may have made a different carrier choice had I known that this was going to happen.  I wonder if this happens with their 4G towers as well...

  • What is a Profile Mismatch and why does it always show up?

    b Question
Every time I open a file I get a prompt which reads: Embedded Profile Mismatch.
    Embedded: Camera RGB Profile
    Working: Adobe RGB (1998)
I always choose the default, which is the "embedded profile (instead of working space).
I have no idea what any of this means. I know that it started doing this after I chose something recommended in a Photoshop book.
Can someone please show me how to get rid of this prompt and point me in the direction of information that will help me choose the best profile?
b Answer supplied by Richard Rose
First the good news - your work flow is Color Managed.
Now the bad news - You have no idea what that means, nor how you are achieving that desirable situation.
You really need to start at the beginning and learn what color management is all about. For some reason lots of people get very confused and mislead trying to wrap their brains around the subject. It's really quite simple.
There are many named "color spaces" in which to work in Photoshop. you have chosen Adobe RGB (1998). You chose that color space in Photoshop CS under "Color Settings."
That's a good "general purpose" color space to use. It's very useful for workers preparing images intended for color reproduction in print (on a printing press). But it'll do for almost any use you have for your images. If your images are destined mostly for the Web, working in sRGB might be good. (I recommend just staying in Adobe RGB 1998)
The "short answer" as to why Photoshop needs to work in some particular "color space" is that the program must "translate" colors from their source (a digital camera, a scanner, a a graphics program) into a destination (display on a computer monitor screen, a particular printer, output for printing press reproduction, etc).
There are many compromises that take place in that translation process, and the requirements for all the possible conditions that must be satisfied (hue, saturation, how light or dark the image appears) cannot always be met. Something has to give somewhere.
Named color spaces (Adobe RGB, sRGB, Color Match RGB, Ekta Space, etc) make a number of assumptions and decisions about how color translations (conversions) should be carried out before Photoshop ever gets its hands on the image, and makes it much easier for Photoshop to carry out the conversions and maintain accuracy in converting (for instance) from a digital camera's idea of an image to the needs of your computer monitor (so you can see an accurate resemblance of the image) to the needs of a printing press, so that the image looks correct in a magazine.
The conversion process is carried out with the aid of "profiles." A profile is a set of data that is embedded in an image file that describes to any program that wants to read it, what the image data means in terms of color.
Without the profile, your digital camera's RGB file simply contains arbitrary RGB values. Yes, a particular pixel with high R values will be reddish, and another pixel with high B values will be blue, but the actual red or blue of those pixels as they relate to the original scene is unknown. The camera profile embedded in your file lets Photoshop know, to a high level of accuracy, just what hue of red, and just how much saturation is present, and how light or dark the red was in the scene. The profile's coding of this information is based on a color measurement system called CIE which uses several different mathematical models to carry out some VERY complicated computations. There are CIE Lab models, CIE XYZ, and others. These models are as close to an "absolute" color reference system as we have.
Thank God you are using camera files that actually have profiles! When you open such a file, Photoshop is "warning" you that the image information is in a color space other than the default Adobe RGB space. You told Photoshop to warn you about such "mismatch" when you set Color Management Policies in the Color Settings section.
Photoshop is telling you that "something" needs to be done. It can honor the camera's color space, from it's own frame of reference (Adobe RGB 1998) and work on the image, accurately handling the color information for screen display and eventual output. That's what you tell it to do when you "accept" the embedded profile. That's not bad, everything will work correctly, because Photoshop will have made internal conversions that remain active as long as the file is open, but there is something you have to keep in mind - when you save the file, Photoshop will save the original camera profile with it. Then if you open the file again, the same "warning" will occur.
That camera profile is as valid and useful as any other profile, but because it is not a commonly recognized color space may cause a problem in some other workflow. (Notice I said MAY. ICC color profiles SHOULD be ok in any program)
It is probably better to choose "Convert to working profile" on opening the file. From that point on, nothing will appear different to you, because nothing has really changed. Photoshop will handle the file as it did before, internally converting the color information as necessary with regard to its working space. But when you save the file, the Adobe RGB 1998 profile will be embedded in it. If you re-open it, you will get no mismatch warning, and the file will be recognized by most other image handling programs as having a "standard" color space.

Thanks! I still don't understand the concept of "saving power" in this context. Does that relate to a laptop running on battery, and some popups consume more battery power? Or does this refer to CPU capacity?  I have never had any issue that I know of in these areas. I would understand the warning if it cautioned me about insufficient bandwidth, but that doesn't seem to apply here. In any case, am glad to find that this is a feature and not a bug.
    Stan

  • Why does InDesign always open multiple files in reverse number order?

Whenever I select multiple InDesign files to open, despite being named accordingly Page_01, Page_02, Page_03, etc. InDesign always opens them in reverse order tabs. If I open 10 spreads at once instead of staring at page 1 I'm looking at the back.
Is there any way to fix this? It's driving me mad. I cannot think of why it would be doing this.

Create a book (File -> New -> Book...) and add your files to it. Rearrange the files to the order you want. Then select the needed files and double-click to open them. The tabs will be populated respecting the order the files appear in the book.
Important: BEFORE adding the files to the newly-created book, go to the book panel menu, choose "Book Page Numbering Options..." and deactivate "Automatically Update Page & Section Numbers", to avoid unwanted renumbering of your pages.
