Why does it take SO long to synchronize my iphone with my macbook pro

Hi fellow users,
It takes unbelievable long for my iPhone 4S to synchronise with my MacBook Pro. Happens everytime.
I started the synch early yesterday evening (19:00). It is now 10:35 the following day and it is still not finished.
Has anyone any ideas?
Have a great day Desmond, a Brit living in Germany.

I have this aggravating issue as well, only I just have an iPhone 4s 16GB (yes, STILL!).  One of the (many) reasons I haven't upgraded is the deteriorating performance factors induced by Apple.  If it takes forever to sync just a 16GB iPhone, syncing a 64GB or 128GB iPhone must be an all day test of aggravation!  Since I'm finding no credible or relevant answers here I thought I'd post my observations.  When I watch the sync process, I can see that the procedure backs up my iPhone data, removes it from the phone, then reinstalls it again with any updates to the data since the last sync.  This is a programming "feature".  I don't know what the reasons are for not designing the sync process to handle only changed data as in any other data backup process.  Maybe it's laziness at Apple, maybe it's a technical issue that their programmers are incapable of solving, or maybe there's a monitoring aspect involved that this method allows Apple to collect information on users more effectively.  I just don't know their reasons for this, or many baffling things they do.  I do know that if their corporate data backups were performed in the same manner in which the iPhone sync is performed, there would never be a break in the backup processes at Apple, nor would the process ever complete.  It's ludicrous to program the SW (iTunes) run this inefficiently.  I can't fathom having a larger capacity iPhone and dealing with the constant aggravation of what must be hours to sync simple data changes caused only by the poor routine programmed into iTunes.  From what I can see, it's basically like loading a blank phone every time I want to sync data.  Completely ridiculous as far as I can tell.  Even if the reasoning is to remove dead sectors, blank sectors etc, I'd think with all the money Apple has and makes on a quarterly basis, they could afford to spend the time and money in R&D to make the sync process a **** of lot more tolerable for users.

on my mac why does it take so long to send a Email with an attachment, on my mac why does it take so lone to send a Email with an attachment

It depends on the size of the attachment and the speed of your internet connection.
Next time you send an email with an attachment do these two things:
In Apple Mail (I assume you are using Apple Mail), under the Window menu select Activity. Arrange the Activity window so you can see it.
Then open the separate application located in the Utilities folder called "Activity Monitor" and arrange it so you can see it at the same time as the Activity window in Mail.
In Activity Monitor program, select the tab labeled "Network." Watch the "Data sent/sec" portion. Then send your email, while watching the Mail Activity window and also the Activity Monitor program window Data sent/sec area.
You should see the mail being sent with a progress bar in the Mail Activity window and also you should be able to see how many bytes/sec or KB/sec or MB/sec your internet connection is giving you in the Activity Monitor window.
Example: my internet provider gives me about 20 Megabits per second download and 5 Megabits per second upload. To convert these to Megabytes per second (Activity Monitor shows things in bytes, not bits), simply divide by 10 (not the exact thing to do, but close enough). So I get 0.5 Megabytes per second upload speed. When I send a file that is 5 Megabytes in size, it takes about 10 seconds if I am getting the full upload bandwidth. If I am getting less than that (which sometimes happens), it will take proportionately more time. Either way, you can see what is happening with these two windows.
If your internet provider is supposed to give you, say, 5 Megabits/sec upload (0.5 Megabytes/sec), but you see only say, 5 KB/sec (=0.005 Megabytes/sec), sent in Activity Monitor, then your emails are taking a long time because you are getting only abut 1/100 the speed you should be. You might want to check with your internet provider about that.

  • Why does it take so long to sync my iphone?

8 hours later and it is reading "finishing sync" which I believe is past Step 5 and I have no idea when the "finish" will occur and am afraid to disconnect/interrupt the sync. The current version of itunes (11) is installed and syncing Microsoft Outlook (about 400 contacts, calendar, etc) for the first time.  What should I do next besides wait?

  • Why does it take an hour to download 140 mb on a macbook pro?

I recently purchased the macbook pro with retina and now when I try to download files from the internet it takes 40+ plus minutes. I'm downloading small, less than 140 mb files. On my old macbook from 2008 it would take a few minutes. I did not pay 4,000 dollars to downgrade what is going on

How are you connected to the internet?  Check with your isp to determine if the slowness is on their end and you can also check your speed on the Speedtest website.

Then you are still under warranty.
    Call Apple Care.
#1 - You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return your computer with no questions asked.
#2 - You have 90 days of FREE phone tech support.
#3 - If you've purchased an AppleCare Protection Plan, your warranty last for 3 years.   You can obtain AppleCare anytime up to the first year of the purchase of your computer.
Take FULL advantage of your warranty.  Posting on a message board should be done as a last resort and if you are out of warranty or Apple Care has expired.

  • Why does it take so long to update my iphone?

Every time i try and update my iphone 3 it takes like 3 hours and then my internet is timed out can any one advise me on this?

Yes. The reason for this is when you update your iPhone iTunes automatically makes a backup of all your settings. To try and cut down on this long backup time switch your phone on airplane mode as this will make iTunes not backup your network settings which is what is taking up so much time.

  • Why does it take so long to clear a task (with DMA transfer) using the PXI bus?

I am migrating a system which used to use a PCI-6133 (8 channel simultaneous AI) and PCI-6733 (8 channel AO) to one that uses a PXI-6133 and PXI-6733 mounted in a PXI-1033 chassis.
In general, things seem to work (synchronized AI/AO running near the maximum rate on both devices), with the one exception that clearing an AO task on the PXI-6733 takes forever (on the order of 20-30 seconds).
Even when I try the sinewave generation for the PXI-6733 in the MAX test panel it takes the same amount of time to stop the task. If I switch to using interrupts as the transfer mechanism, it stops immediately.
I tried using the interrupt transfer mechanism on my more demanding set of synchronized tasks, but that does not produce the right behavior (even though it does not give any errors).
Is there any trick (or better diagnostic) to help get my tasks working with DMA under PXI that used to work fine on PCI?
    Thanks in advance!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Patrick,
I'm using a PCIe-8361 controller. The computer is a Dell T5500 workstation running Windows 7 x64. I see the problem every single time I try to clear a task running on the PXI-6733, including my example using the Measurement & Automation test panel (from the very first time I try the Sinewave Generation onward). I can try other parameters in the test panel, but I don't need to adjust anything from the defaults (e.g., Rate = 1000) to get the behavior. I will also try installing the PXI chassis in a few other computers we have here just to confirm that it's not computer specific. From your line of questions I can at least gather that there's nothing obvious (like a known bug with the PXI-6733) and that I should expect this configuration to work.
Thanks for your help and I'll post any other findings I obtain.

  • Why does it take so long to download a movie with my mini ipad?

I rented a movie on my mini ipad trough itunes and so far it has taken 40 minutes to download half the movie. I would like to have a refund on my credit card. This will be the last time i try to rent a movie. I am very disappointed because i bought the connections necessary to be able to rent movies.
    Thank you
    Lise

    Hello Lisa,
Your ISP is almost certainly the cause.   You can test your Broadband situation on this site and compare it with what your provider claims to provide.  But be aware, it is rare for providers to supply more than half their claimed supply rate; there's too many ifs and buts.   Your connections will be universal.

  • Why does it take a long time to back up my iPhone?

My iPhone is taking forever to backup. Whenever I pluf it in and it starts to back up it seems to stay on the screen in my iTunes and the bar doesn't move at all. I need help. What should I do?

Extraordinary long backups are caused by an error when an app (or apps) was installed or updated, particularly if you have ever installed or updated using the App Store on the device itself rather than iTunes. Even if you were never aware that there was a problem, they can arise and will cause problems with the backup process. Maybe you did have a problem during an update or install. Maybe the update stalled, or the App Store crashed. These issues are very likely what have been causing your long backups and you didn't even know it. During the backup process these errors cause it to drag and pause for a very long time before it gets moving again. From your view, you just see a normal backup that is taking hours, and undoubtedly annoying you to no end. On the inside, iTunes is trying desperately to get past a roadblock that it doesn't know where it came from.

  • Why does Sync take soo long?

I am trying to sync up a website on a new install of
Dreamweaver. The total volume of the entire website is just a
little over 100 MB. At DSL speed, I could simply download the
entire site with an FTP program like CuteFTP and it would come down
    completely in about 30-40 minutes.
Dreamweaver has been chugging along for 12 hours now and I
haven't a clue when it will be finished if ever. Many times when I
check it, there is a dialog that says something like a file xxx.htm
could not be downloaded from the server, Skip, Cancel, will
    automatically skip in xx seconds.
I am not for sure why this message keeps popping up. Is this
why the download is taking so long?
I have seen long download times before and never noticed
those error messages before. I wish there was a setting to make it
    skip all files with errors.
Why does Dreamweaver take exponentially longer than Cute FTP
    to synchronize my files?
    Kirk

Adobe's FTP code in DW is sorely lacking. I too found it
    painfully slow. I
have since gone to a dedicated FTP program and live much
    happier.

  • What's wrong with this Forum? Why does Adobe take so long to reply to posts?!

What's wrong with this Forum? Why does Adobe take so long to reply to posts?!
This is actually "specific" to this Photoshop Forum.
I typically get responses back from other Adobe forum promptly.
    Chime in.

The Adobe engineering folks DO duck in here from time to time - and that's a BLESSING!  Please name any other big company where you get to interact with the engineers AT ALL.  I can't.  But I suspect the engineers actually have a lot oof real work to do, and their time here is necessarily limited.
Your comments are more along the line of "I pay a huge amount, for that I expect better support".  These are very valid comments.  But reality is different from what we may expect, and this forum is not the place to expect Adobe support participation AT ALL.  In fact, the technical support people at Adobe often direct users to come here (something I've always found amusing).
At the higher level, Adobe may simply not be spending enough on support for literally millions of users.  Is is greed or smart business to try to minimize support cost?  That's up for individuals to decide.
I suggest you write a snail-mail letter to the Adobe president if you're not getting the support you need.

  • Why does it take so long to recognize my camera?

I have a Canon EOS Rebel XS.  When I plug it in, iPhoto jumps up and is in front on the screen, as it should, but then it takes 8 or 10 minutes for it to be identified and booted up into the sidebar. I just watch the wheels turn and the red light flicker, but it takes EIGHT or MORE minutes to be recognized!! And, sometimes the camera times itself out. Here is my question . . . WHY WHY WHY DOES IT TAKE SO LONG TO BE RECOGNIZED?!?!?!!? I could deal with 30 seconds, but this is just ridiculous. Is this a Canon issue? A driver issue? Heaven forbid, an Apple issue?  Does anybody have any insight on this or the same kind of experience?
    Mike

Next time you import reformat the card with the Camera - remember this will erase the card, so make sure you've emptied it first. Oh, and the use of block capitals is very impressive. Doesn't make it look like a tantrum at all.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this atwww.speedtest.net.
1080p HD movies require a recommended speed of 8 Mbps, 720p HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.

Why does syncing take so long? 2GB is taking 215 hours

Thats a fair enough comment, but I would have thought that syncing a mere 2GB of data, 215 hours seems a bit ridiculous, especially as it's not explained very well on the Adobe Cloud exactly what syncing is and how it benefits me. My internet connection is BT broadband and my download speed is 10 Mb/s, upload is 0.261 Mb/s crap I know.
