Why does the site manager create c:\ folders for files that don't belong to the site via FTP?

Hello everyone,
now I've been using Dreamweaver since Ultradev 1.0 and I have just recently upgraded to CS 5.5 Web Edition. Before that I used CS3. I've allways been very satisfied with Macromedia and Adobe products until now
Now I don't know whats happened in the last few years but I am getting the impression that the quality of Dreamweaver used to be alot more stable.
Developing for more than half my life I understand that bugs are usual and that not everything can be cared for, but to be quite honest I also know that there are bugs that just should not happen when you ship a product.
On the other hand I do love some of the enhancements that have come with 5.5, for example the Javascript Framework integration and jQuery code hinting features but what I really cannot understand is why the heck is Dreamweaver automatically uploading files that do not belong to the currently open site to the ftp server? I cannot think of any scenario in which this would be appropriate behaviour. I'd understand it if the files somehow contained links (CSS, JS, PHP, etc.) to the currently open site, but they don't! Dreamweaver simply sets out, every now and again, to creating a totally "dumb" folder structure on my ftp servers when I open a file from outside of the site - which I do very often to copy code I used in other projects.
It's just frustrating having to cleanup the ftp servers because Dreamweaver created folders like this "c:\localhost_root_folder\client_folder\client_project_folder\www\.... and so on", and saves a file in there that has nothing to do with the currently open site.
Now I've looked for settings that would supress this behaviour but I could'nt find any.
Also, I really don't want to stop using the automatic upload function because it speeds up development time significantly.
Does anyone know how to work around this issue, or even better, does anyone know why this behaviour is happening and what it's purpose is?
Thanks in advance.
David

... what I really cannot understand is why the heck is Dreamweaver automatically uploading files that do not belong to the currently open site to the ftp server? I cannot think of any scenario in which this would be appropriate behaviour. I'd understand it if the files somehow contained links (CSS, JS, PHP, etc.) to the currently open site, but they don't! Dreamweaver doesn't "automatically upload" anything unless you have it set to on save. This is a bad practice if you aren't 100% sure of what you're doing. You may see it as a time saver, but if you have to go back two or three times and clean everything up, it isn't. Additionally, you select what is uploaded or not uploaded. If you choose to upload the entire root folder every time, then Dreamweaver will upload everything inside it... not automatically, but because you chose it.
As to the "dumb folder structure", when you define a site, YOU and YOU ALONE define the folder structure. If you are working in multiple sites at once (bad practice unless your are extremely meticulous about details) odds are you will sooner or later save a file from one site, with another site open in the Files Panel and Dreamweaver will save the file to the open site, not the one you opened it from (see why it's a bad practice to do this?).
It's just frustrating having to cleanup the ftp servers because
Dreamweaver created folders like this
"c:\localhost_root_folder\client_folder\client_project_folder\www\... .
and so on", and saves a file in there that has nothing to do with the
currently open site.
It reads like you have defined a testing server and are using it when  you put files. C:\localhost is a testing server protocol. If you are  testing files and then attempt to put files from the testing server  instead of the root folder, they will have the filepath from the testing  server and not from the root folder file structure. Again a bad  practice unless you are meticulous about details and remember to switch  back to the root folder from the testing server panel BEFORE you put  files.

  • HELP! "There are 309 files that don't belong in the project"

I needed to reformat my OS, so I backed up all my data onto DVD+RW's. (Verbatim brand.) including my imovies. I copied the entire "blahblah.iMovieProject" folder onto the DVD, then copied it back onto the drive after the reinstall. But now when I click on the project, it prompts me about this:
"There are 309 files that don't belong in the project"
    and then this:
"There are 160 stray clip files in the project folder. Would you like to put them on the clips pane?"
After I click on "Leave Files Alone" for both of them, (versus move to trash, and Move files to clips pane, respectively), The project opens completely BLANK.
Oh great. Please inform. Am I out of luck?
Oh, btw, it also created like 10 versions of each photo in the "Media" folder. ick. what happened?...
    g5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Also, one more thing! Now that this has happened, even after I quit and restart the computer, upon opening the application, instead of starting out with a brand new project, the same prompts appear, and then leaves me with that seemingly corrupt project which is blank.

  • Has anyone received text messages that don't belong to the actual sender?

I have an iphone 4S, iOS 7.1.2.  About a week ago, I received a text from my husband who has a new Samsung Galaxy 5.  Immediately afterward, I received two more texts from him that said "I'm at the movies" then "I'm driving".  He said that he didn't send those two texts.  Did someone somehow get my password and got into the cloud to send these texts ?  Am I going to have to change my iTunes password again ?  I've been doing this a lot recently with almost everything internet related.

If someone has your Apple ID credentials, they could access some information, including iMessages. An Apple ID will not give the any access to SMS messages. Anything between you and your husband is going to be an SMS. Two step verification is a way to make it more difficult for someone to access an account such as you iCloud account or Google account.
If you have sensitive information on your phone, a password is a good idea. It would also prevent someone from picking up the phone, using it and running up your bill. I maintain that the first, most important security measure is simply not to leave your phone lying around where other people can pick it up. Treat it like your wallet. You wouldn't leave your walled on your office desk and go off to a two hour meeting.
All of these security measures are a fine idea. However, I want to stress that the messages you received do not seem to indicate that anything has been compromised.

  • Why does add-ons Manager create a new tab every time I go to home page?

When I start Firefox my home page tab shows up along with an add-ons Manager tab and a plus sign for new tab. Every time I go to a web site and then return to my home page ANOTHER add-ons Manager tab shows up. This apparently will go on forever. I have had as many as 20 add-ons Manager tabs showing. The only way to eliminate them is to stop Firefox and then restart. Then it starts all over again. What is causing this?
I'm running the latest version of Firefox and Windows 8.1 on a Dell Inspiron with 8G's of memory and a 1T hard drive.
    Please help.

Can you post back here a screenshot from this issue?

  • In Address Book, why does Apple let you create custom fields in the Template cards but not have them available for importing?

I open Address Book, go into Preferences, select Template and under the Names field (friend, assistant, father, etc) I add a custom field called "Principal".
I also add two more custom fields in the Email area.
Quit Address Book then relaunch. Add a new contact and the new custom fields, Principal, etc. are there. All good so far.
I have a Now Contact file with about 200 contacts in it. I export all fields as a Text file, Tab delimited. No problems there. With Address Book launched, select Import, pick the text file, leave Text Encoding on Automatic and click Open.
The window that shows the fields for Address Book and fields for the text file side by side opens. This is where you match up the correct fields for importing. If I go to one of the fields from the text file that I created a custom field for, click under the Address Book heading on the Do not import, scroll thru the Apple choices of fields, none of the custom fields show up. Only the original Apple ones are there. Why does Apple let you create them in the Template area but not have them available for importing? Does anyone have suggestions on getting around this?

While most likely not of interest to you, Spotlight can also tell you where the files it finds are located
Hover the mouse pointer over the name, and press Command-Option and the path to the file will be displayed.
As for opening a terminal session in the directory where a file is located, there is Applescripts that do just that as well as specific features in Lion/Mountain Lion terminal:

why does a standalone program created in Labview 8.5 try connecting to the internet when the program only reads data through the serial port? Firewalls object to progams that contact the internet without permission.
The created program is not performing a command I have written when it tries to connect to the internet, it must be Labview that is doing it. How do I stop this from happening?
Any help would be very appreciated.

    It looks that way..
"When LabVIEW starts it contacts the service
locator to removes all services for itself. This request is triggering
the firewall. This is done in case there were services that were not
unregistered the last time LabVIEW executed- for example from VIs that
    didn't clean up after themselves"
This is not yet fixed in LV2009.

Why does my web page, created on iWeb, look correct on Safari but has thick black lines all over it in Firefox?

What's the URL of your site so we can examine it first hand?  I assume those black lines are around photos or objects that have had a frame or drop shadow added to it, right?  If so that's a known issue.
There's a workaround for that in this tutorial: #7 - Converting Photos w/Frames, Drop Shadows and/or Reflections into a Single Image File.  That should get rid of those black lines/boxes.

Aperture 3.1.2 When exporting files to Finder is creating a folder for each file, that means export 200 files is creating 200 folders for each files. Does anyone knows how to fix this. Thanks

No. This is NOT true. I've been battling with this for a couple hours.
    I choose Export>Versions
    choose
    Subfolder Format: Project Name
    no custom subfolder
    Name Format: Current Version Name.
Aperture creates project folders for each image and names them Projects1, Projects2, Projects3 etc.
To be sure, I have no project named Projects
    x
This particular Aperture library has 16 projects. you can see in the screen grab it's created more than 30 folders
If I uncheck the Subfolder, that is say NONE, I just get images and images and images, not in their project folders (of course, because I've said NONE, so why would it put them in project folders?)
I just want to export the entire library and have the versions placed in folders named by the projects from which they came.... ez enough, no?

  • Why does stuffit open and create a new folder every time I save a pages document?

Why does stuffit open and create a new folder every time I save a pages document?

Because you are saving it to the desktop, Pages documents are actually zipped files and Stuffit is set to uncompress desktop files.
Either don't save to the desktop (bad practice) or check the preferences in Stuffit to see if you can turn off unstuff files on desktop.

  • When i open an mp3 file from a source other than apple, does itunes create it's own file and can I then delete the original mp3?

when I open a music file from a source other than apple, does itunes create it's own file and can I then delete the original mp3?

If you use iTunes' default settings then when you add a file to iTunes it places a copy of the file in the iTunes media folder and it leaves the original in place.  The exception is when you drag it to the Automatically Add To iTunes folder.
It does not convert the file.  You can delete the original if you wish.

  • HT1420 Why does my computer keep asking to be authorized when i put my iphone on the charger?

Why does my computer keep asking to be authorized when i put my iphone on the charger?

    Authorization and Deauthorization
See iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization for Macs.
See How to Authorize or Deauthorize iTunes | PCWorld for Windows.
In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it.
More On De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.
