Why can't my Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock operate my desktop speakers?

Bought a Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock at the Apple Store to use with my new MacBook Pro.
When I connected it to my
-20" Mac Cinema display,
-Various USB connected hubs and devices,
-Various Firewire hubs and devices
-My ethernet network from my Cable Modem
Then made the last connection from the Dock to the Thunderbolt port on the MacBook Pro...
All was fine.
But when I made that one last connection - to my desktop speakers via the audio-out port on the dock (earphones icon) nothing happened. The dock did not pick up the audio from the laptop playng an iTunes song or send it to the desktop speakers. When I unplugged the audio cable from the Dock and plugged it in to the MacBook Pro directly, the desktop speakers kicked right in again.
Does Thunderbolt pick up audio-out from a MacBook Pro and carry it to the Dock for connection to my desktop speakers?
Of for some reason, can that signal not be carried by Thunderbolt?
Will I have to get used to the onerous task of unplugging 2 cables from my MacBook Pro when I want to more it to another location in stead of just 1 cable?
But stay with me. Here's the thing.
When this happened I called Belkin Customer Support to ask if they could help me. After taking me through their steps, they agreed that the unit must be defective and agreed to ship me a replacement Thunderbolt Express Dock.
The replacement arrived over the weekend and when I shut down my system and then plugged everything from Dock I purchased into the replacement Thunderbird Express Dock - - - - - the same thing happened!
No signal to the speakers from the dock. Perfect signal when the plug moved from the Dock to the computer itself.
Hence my question:
Does Thunderbolt pick up audio-out from a MacBook Pro and carry it to the Dock for connection to my desktop speakers?
Can it accomplish that function?
Am I really that unlucky to have received 2 defective new Belkin Thunderbolt Express Docks in a row?
Or is it simply a matter of the Dock not handling audio throughput in the manner I am expecting.
Then again, if this is the case, why did the Belkin techies not know this when I called them in the first place.
Yes, I'm going on and on here. But I really don't have time for this.
What's going on here?

OK. No reason to be playing games here. Just surprised that this issue hasn't been brought up here on the community boards as well. Here's the simple solution

After reaching a Level III technician in Belkin customer support today and having spent approximately 4-5 person hours on this issue, we figured out that the Sound/Output preferences in the Apple System Preferences should not be set to "Internal Speakers" but rather set to "USB PnP Sound Device".
Worked like a charm. Simple, elegant solution to a real problem, one likely to be encountered by 90% of the people who buy a Belkin Thunderbid Express Dock off the shelves of any Apple Store to use with a current generation Apple laptop or desktop computer.
But the Level III Belkin technician admmtted that this critical little piece of simple, straightforward information should have been readily available to their Level 1 techies who began helping me 5 person hours ago. Would even have saved Balkin loads of customer service support time.
And so the saga ends
Belkin owes me for helping them learn this precious lesson.

do you have the current itunes? the option is under view "show duplicate items. Maybe you just dont have any duplicates.

Bootcamp and Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock? Does it work?

Anyone try this combination out with Windows 8.1 running on the boot camp side? With a VGA monitor plugged into a Display Port Adapter into the Thunderbolt port and with a USB keyboard and mouse into one of the USB ports in the Belkin dock.

Ordinarily, with FileVault a user is chosen in the pre-boot authentication dialog, and then logged in automatically after the system boots. Before that happens, the OS isn't running at all, so there would be nothing for the peripherals to do.

Hey guys, Let me tell you about my predicament. So I made this video using photobooth, and I used garage band to make a track for my video, so I've got the video file, and all the tracks. So I want to "Share" this video right, (send it to itunes under movies, so i can upload it to youtube) so anyway I click share, I scroll down to "Send Movie to Itunes" and the video normalizes/compresses/ etc, and then when it finishes compressing and everything, I check my itunes library and there's nothing there. I've tried doing this five times now. still no luck. I know that people may be having the same problem as me so it would be great if someone could help me out. I really appreciate it, Thanks.

Silly question, but you have selected the "Movies" section in the iTunes Library, right? Then you should see your movie at the top of the list, when you sort your Library by "Date added", after sharing with "Send Movie to iTunes".
If it does not show up in your iTunes Library, you may have a problem with the iTunes Library, then please look in the iTunes Forum for help, I don't dare to give advice with that.
As a work-around share your finished Movie to your disk: "Share > Export Movie to Disk". This will have the advantage, that you get to specify the video settings and have more control over the finished video and the quality. Then import the video to iTunes.

Why doesn't the MBPr support 2560x1440 over HDMI with OSX when Windows7 (bootcamp) supports it just fine?

I purchased a 2013 MBPr 15" (the first Mac I've ever owned btw) and so far have enjoyed the experience. I purchased a large 27" high resolution 2560x1440 non-Apple display which I planned on using HDMI output for, since HDMI has no problem supporting this resolution. After receiving this display yesterday I came to the sad realization that OSX does not support 2560x1440 over HDMI. However, under further investigation I found that Windows7 in Bootcamp on the same machine will beautifully display the full 2560x1440 over HDMI.
This means that OSX is the problem, and not the MBPr since Windows7 displayed the full resolution with no issue. If the hardware can support it, why would Apple disable it in the software? Is this just their way of forcing people to use DisplayPort? Or is there hope for them fixing this in future versions?

MacBook Pro with Belkins Thunderbolt Express sometimes drops network

Hi,
I have encoutered a problem with my MacBook Pro Retina and Belkins Thunderbolt express where the network sometimes just drops. The network does still have "link" but no network. Removing and adding network ssettings does not help. Removing and adding kext module helps. This problem seems to have started when I installed Mavericks.
Script to remove and add kext:

sudo /sbin/kextunload $KEXT
sudo /sbin/kextload $KEXT
It also works to unplug and plug the Belkins Thunderbolt express device... but I have my external display attached to the device and I have to restart a bounch of applications to get back to a sane state :-/

Well, you cannot use the 3G USB modem plugged directly into the Express. However, you can configure your MacBook Pro to do 'Internet sharing' (SysPrefs>Sharing) over the Ethernet port, and then connect your Express into the Ethernet port. Alternatively, you could always get your MacBook to 'create a wireless network'.
new house, waiting for DSL to be installed, 2-3 month wait.
You could always look for open WiFi networks to *cough*borrow*cough* .

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If they fail to resolve the issue, this would tend to indicate a hardware issue.

Maybe you purchased the wrong item.
iPads that have the 25 pin connector use the original Camera Connection Kit. That kit has two parts and adapter to allow you to insert SD cards and a second adapter to connect a USB cord from your camera. Here's a link to that kit:

Newer iPads have the Lightning connector. You have two choices for those iPads. If you want to read SD card purchase a Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader.

I just want to start off first by saying I just purchased my iPad about six months ago and I'm really enjoying it,but if you're like me,I believe in protecting my privacy.
I don't like to turn down any of friends or coworkers when I'm asked to use my iPad,but when you have such things as your personal pictures,movies,music,business documents,etc...you'd like to keep them from prying eyes. I thought that with the new iOS 7 update,that issue would've been fixed, but I was wrong. Why doesn't the CC app work properly?

I've been using Creative Cloud for some time now and am really loving it, however I must say it is a source of annoyance that the Creative Cloud app just doesn't work properly.
Firstly, I used it initially to download all my apps, then after an update those apps no longer appeared in the "Apps" list. Now only those that have been installed since that update appear in this list. Why doesn't the "Apps" list display all of the Adobe CC apps that I have installed on my computer?
Why does it keep reinstalling fonts? I'm always getting "Lush Script Regular" and other fonts being added.
It regularly comes up telling me that Dreamweaver and Premiere Pro need to be updated, but always I get an error, then the update request disappears.
I'm regularly getting 4 files that it can't sync - even though they are the same files as others in the folder. If nothing else, why can't I say "Great, got the message". Also, why is the error message just "due to server error" with no advice on how to resolve it? Why is there a server error on only these 4 files?
It seems to me there are still some teething issues with the CC app, but what I don't understand is why they aren't being resolved much faster, given that this is the portal to the service.
Of course, given Adobe I doubt I'll get satisfactory answers – a little jaded with their responses. Anyway, thought I'd at least post the questions.

Questapo I am sorry you have been facing difficulties with your Creative Cloud experience. I don't believe it will be possible to address all of your concerns in one discussion. I would not be surprised if at least three of the issues are related to the same root cause.
First in order for the applications to be visible are you regularly needing to delete the OPM.db file? You can find this listed as solution 2 in CC desktop lists applications as "Up to Date" when not installed - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/aam-lists-removed-apps-date.html.

You do get a nice answer of something like .035. But this is all done manually and I need it to function automatically when the report is refreshed.
So you have a range for the currency and a range for the date fields. I need to simulate this in crystal. Crystal has an XIRR function, and with the arrays, I should be able to fill in the range, but am having difficulty getting it to work.
After building the arrays, I made another formula to combine the arrays in the XIRR formula.
I am down to this error now after getting this formula this far --
"Numerical method did not converge; try another value for guess."
Here's where I am with the formula, although they don't want to use the guess part of the XIRR function - they just want to use the XIRR(number/currency, date). Maybe you could pass this on too?:

The array works correctly. So why do I get that error and why doesn't the XIRR formula work like they say it should? Has anyone used this successfully in Crystal--maybe you could shed some light?

I am receiving that same error when the last item in the array is 0, otherwise all works perfectly.
When I run the same group of numbers and dates in Excel it returns without issue.

thanks for the reply. You prompted me to check and I realised it wasn't installed on my test laptop and opening in Microsoft Reader. I've installed it now and it works.
My next challenge is to prevent the mailto: command opening Microsoft Mail instead of Outlook, but I guess every user will have a different default.

Without more information, speculation is a waste of time. At the least tell us what you do, what the results are, and how that result differs from your expectation. Then tell us what steps you have taken to resolve the issue, and what the results of taking those steps was.
