Why don't local folder contents appear immediately anymore?

I was on the train with limited wifi connectivity. A web site loaded in firefox. I chose Print > Save as PDF and a folder from the left nav of the finder. Where are all the folders that go in that folder? Why is there a spinny thing on this save as? I am saving locally, and I want to see the local file system. This used to be fast, and I don't remember a spinny. Unfortuneatly, I changed two things: upgraded to Lion and started using Time Machine. Which one of these might be the problem?

I just figured out why I did not see them. (I had set the page size as 8.5 x 11. When I used 8 x 10, they appeared.) However, in the source images list, "use open files" is grayed out. Thus, if I have 3 open pictures and want to print one sheet with each 4x6, it puts the frontmost one in all three slots. If I click on one of the slots, it opens up a window for choosing a photo from the list. If I try to drag a photo onto a slot to replace one of the duplicates, I cannot until I click ok and the picture package gets created and put up on Elements. Then, if I drag a pricture from the bin, it gets transferred at its full size, not the size of the slot. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

There was a bug in the first version of the iBooks app that prevented it from moving all the books in the iTunes library to the new app. In my library, only two books didn’t get moved, but I’ve heard from people who lost dozens or even hundreds of books.
These books should still be on your computer. If you haven’t done so, open the App Store app, click Updates, and download the iBooks 1.0.1 update. Launch iBooks, then choose File > Move Books from iTunes. This should move the remaining books to iBooks.

Although local folder still in place, the contents disappeared.

okay, this is actually a common problem. from your main screen select the blackberry key (next to track ball)->options->security->general settings->include address book->no->reset phone->problem should be fixed!

Why don't AM or PM appear on my emails?

I set my Mac to 24 hour clock. It works perfectly in my lists of emails sent and received, but the times displayed on actual emails are ludicrous. Examples:
01:59 shows as 1:59:16
16:22 shows as 4:22:00
My desire is to have the emails showing 24 hour clock time. Logically, having set the system thus, I'd expect that to occur. Can anyone help me with a solution, or is it bad programming?
Alternatively, I could live with the times shown on emails, provided that AM or PM showed too. I tried to achieve that, without success. Here's what I did:
System Preferences>International>Formats>Customize. Then I made the following selections:
* Short. (So why are seconds showing on emails?)
* 01-24.
* Before noon: AM.
* After noon: PM. (I reinstated the AM & PM after I didn't get 24 hour times on my emails.)
I should be very grateful if somebody could advise me how to get AM & PM back. As shown in the two examples early in this posting, 12 hour times without AM or PM are totally confusing. How to kill seconds would be a bonus, but I can live with seconds.
Please, when replying to me, no "computer speak". I'm new and should be grateful for blow by blow instructions.

Your first paragraph stated that having the Short option chosen "has absolutely no effect on whether applications will use it for displaying date & time information." That leads me to advise you how I achieved 24 hour time in Mail. I followed the advice of Michael Lafferty in the iCal forum, about how to achieve 24 hour time in iCal. It worked and, as a bonus, gave me 24 hour time in the Mail message list. Unfortunately, it gave the crazy, inconsistent times on emails, which are the topic of this thread. Michael was answering the topic "24 Hour times in iCal" and the posting was at 6:42 PM on Feb 18, 2006. Here it is:
This is a goofy Mac OS X 10.4 thing.
Launch System Preferences and open the International preference pane in the Personal panel. Press the Formats tab and then the Customize… button in the center, under the Times section.
Under the Show: Short menu, you should see two values listed, the first representing hours, and the second representing minutes. If you click on that first value, you should see a downward-facing triangle. Press it to drop-down a menu on the right hand side of the value, and select the 01-24 format choice. Press the OK button, and quit.
iCal should display 24 hour times from that point on, though some users—all or most using releases prior to version 2—indicating that existing event times don't shift to 24 hour representation. All of mine did.

Knowing the above may help you to determine what happened. It may also make your third paragraph question redundant, but I shall answer it , in case it is still relevant. I dragged the Mail display so wide that it took up the complete width of the Mac's screen. The time display was unchanged. It continued to hug the right hand side of the display, but with lots of empty space between it and the previous column.
Returning to my problem, I was concerned that recipients of my emails would get the ambiguous and confusing times shown in para. 2 of my original posting. However, today a friend sent me a reply including my original message. Instead of showing the ambiguous time that was on my version of the email, it had it nicely expressed as a PM time.
While I'd prefer that unambiguous times appeared on my version of emails, ( that is, as shown on my screen, ) I could live with garbage times, if I were sure that recipients would receive 24 hour, or AM/PM style times.
So, my acceptable solutions, starting with my favourite, are as follows:
1. 24 hour clock on my version of emails and on the recipients'.
2. AM/PM on mine and the recipients'.
3. Ambiguous on mine, provided I could be sure that recipients would receive intelligible times. My message list would show the correct times.
I do realise that I could revert to AM/PM in iCal and in my Mail message list, if none of 1 to 3 were possible.
I suspect that you're like me: like to resolve a problem! I suspect that I've given you a juicy one here and I really appreciate your help.

Why does a Local Folder folder keeping bolding as if it has an unread email?

I've set up a folder "Canards" under my Local Folders. About two weeks ago, it started going bold as if it has an unread email in it. There is no number to the right, so it knows there is no unread email in it. How do I get Thunderbird to quit bolding the name of this folder?

After disabling all plug-ins and powered off, I restarted my computer and Thunderbird in safemode. The problem went away, but after an hour, it came back. This is with all plug-ins disabled!
Then I went to my Inbox and noticed that only emails up to 6/23 were there. Somehow I had lost incoming emails, and possibly others, for 4 days. I decided to do some playing but quickly recovered all those emails by clicking on Get Mail. The previously read lost emails came back Unread, and the Canard folder, which was already bold, got a number in parentheses after it, indicating unread emails. I went through 129 bolded (supposedly unread) emails, verifying I had already read many of them. I finally got to some that had recently been sent and were unread by me. As soon as I read them, the Canard folder name unbolded and I haven't had a problem since then.
I haven't added in the rest of the plug ins yet because I'm still testing this phenomenon for reliability. The problem has gone away, but I'm still testing it, especially with Lightning back. I'll get back as soon as I either detect the problem or it's solved.

Why don't my contact names appear in the sms texts, but do in the address book?

Even if I compose and type a name, the name will go through, but looking in the MMS and SMS folder, it shows just phone numbers only. How can I change this?

There could be any one of three solutions... Try these:
1. Make sure you set your own country code at Phone Dialer Screen > Options > Smart dialing.
Set your country code in this format: "+xx" where xx = your country code. Some countries have two or three digit Country Codes. Do not place the '+' in your contact's entry.
* In the US, set this Country Code as "+1", and place your loca area code in the proper box (this normally the default setting in a new BB).
2. At the same location, change the National Number Length to the number of digits for your country (since some countries will have less than 10 as set as the default in the BB). Find out the total digits, minus the country code. Do not place the '+' in your contact's entry.
* For example, some countries have a total number to 8 (plus 3 for country code). You would enter "8".
3. You may have "Content Protection" set on your Address Book.
Look at Options > Security > General Settings. Scroll down to Content Protection > Include Address Book = NO.

Not a very savvy user here, so could use some help please.
Moved to Lion on my iMac.
Now when I download a new program it doesn't show on my desktop so that I can open and install it - have to go looking for it.

Downloads are in your Downloads folder for your protection, so you know they are Downloads as it's possible to become a victim of a driveby download attack, or click a trick link.
It's best to not change this and keep the Downloads folder clear and not click on anything that appears in there unless your sure.
Mac's are increasingly being the target of trojan installs and driveby downloads taking advantage of persons like yourself that are doing what your doing.

Why don't my Audiobook purchases appear in icloud?

Icloud appears to store music, films and reading books but not audio books. Is it possible to store my audiobook purchases in icloud?

Audiobooks are currently a one-time only download, so they won't appear in the cloud for re-downloading.

Don't know, but suggest you move the com.apple.dock.plist file in your user's /Library/Preferences/ folder to the Desktop, log out and back in, and see if that fixes things. If so, delete the moved file. If not, I'm out of ideas.

Public folder content disapear immediately after starting replication during migration from exchange 2003

I'm in the middle of exchange 2003 to 2010 migration. The migration of the user mailboxes is completed with no problems. Today I try to start the replication of the public folders (~ 160 GB). I used the following instructions (http://www.petenetlive.com/KB/Article/0000426.htm)
to set the replication for all folders. After a short time the first users calls, they were missing the objects in the public folder hierarchie. The routing group connector between the to servers lists a lot of wating mails but nothing really happens. I try
to revert the process by deleting the replications server settings bu everything is very slow and the objects in the public folder hierarchie are still missing.
Any suggestions?

Hmm sounds like you might have replicated things backwards if the folders are missing.
Did you happen to make a backup just prior to starting the replication?

Why don't original mac mini disks work anymore?

Recently the hard disk of my mac mini had to be replaced. On the new hard disk I'm now trying to reinstall iLife, but the computer won't accept the disk. I've checked and the same happens when I try to run the hardware test with the original disks. All other disks will load (Microsoft etc). The problem seems to be limited to Apple products. Anyone any idea what is happening?

I have Lion on the hard disk, and I had the same version of lion on the broken disk. iFactors (an apple service point) did the repair. This is the third hard disk in this computer. My Mac mini seems to get through one a year. iFactors replaced the last one too. My iMac (also lion) will read the hard disk without any problem. Apple telephone support have no suggestions at all.

If the files are in the right location on the server and you are sure they are replaced, then the only thing left to do is to clear the browser cache and reload the page.
Standard procedure.
