Why is Safari listed as "zombie" instead of "running" in Process Viewer?

iMac Mac OS X (10.2.x) G3 slot load

Google it......

zombie: n. [Unix] A process that has died but has not yet relinquished its process table slot (because the parent process hasn't executed a wait(2) for it yet). These can be seen in ps(1) listings occasionally. Compare orphan.

• Why does Safari's Top Sites open when I click on View in iTunes?

For some reason, whenever I click on a link in Safari that requires another application to open, (iTunes for example), now a new browser window opens to Safari's Top Sites page. It appears to have started after the recent update. Anybody else having this problem? Is there a solution?

From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

Why does Safari ask me this every time I open my Macbook? "NONE OF YOUR PREFERRED NETWORKS ARE AVAILABLE. CHOOSE THE WI-FI NETWORK YOU WANT TO JOIN FROM THE LIST BELOW. "

Open System Preferences > Netwwork then click Advanced then select the Wi-Fi tab.
Under Preferred Networks, if you see more than one network name listed, click and drag yours to the top then click OK.
Quit and relaunch Safari.

• Why does audio books list by chapter instead of books?

Why does audio books list by chapter instead of by book ?

Perhaps I should have given more detail. The device works the way it works. Listing every chapter is part of the normal behaviour, and often not in a useful order which is the main thrust of that article. However it does point out that you can use one of the various free/cheap tools available to stitch the individual files into a single audiobook file which is what iDevices really expect to receive.
Alternatively you could use a smart playlist which matches a particular title and only includes files with a play count of zero to make it easier to locate the current chapter. I don't recall ever trying this so I'll have a go and see how it works out.

• Why does Safari crash in the middle of a movie or show from the internet?

Why does Safari crashes in the middle of a movie or show from the internet?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if Safari crashed, you would enter "Safari" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

• Why won't List display ArrayCollection?

Hi all,
I cannot for the life of me figure out why the List I created will not display any of the values in my ArrayCollection. I've read and watched so much databinding material, that I think it must be something extremely small or absolutely huge that I'm missing. If anyone could give me a pointer or two it would be so greatly appreciated, I've been on this for days now.
I have two .mxml's (MyCards and NewCard). The idea is that in the NewCard View the user types in a Title, and text for side 1 and side 2 of a flash card. The program then saves all 3 of these properties into an Object and puts that Object into an ArrayCollection. This ArrayCollection is display in a List in the MyCards.mxml file. The problem is, nothing shows up.
Here's part of MyCards.mxml showing how I'm implementing and binding the ArrayCollection to the List:
[Bindable]
public var card:Object = new Object();
public var nc:NewCard = new NewCard(); // create new instance of NewCard
[Bindable]
public var cards:ArrayCollection = new ArrayCollection();
public function add():void
cards.addItem(nc.myCard); // add new Item to ArrayCollection 'cards'
trace(cards.list);

</fx:Script>
<s:actionContent>
<s:Button label="Delete"/>
<s:Button label="Home" click="button1_clickHandler(event)" skinClass="skins.homeButtonSkin"/>
</s:actionContent>
<s:Image x="0" y="-80" height="603" source="mainapp1.jpg"/>
<s:List id="myCardsList" x="10" y="10" left="0" right="0" top="0" bottom="0" width="1004"
height="500" dataProvider="{cards}"
enabled="true" >
<s:itemRenderer>
<fx:Component>
<s:MobileItemRenderer label="{data.Title}"/>
</fx:Component>
</s:itemRenderer>
</s:List>
And then here's how I'm 'adding' the cards in the NewCard.mxml:
[Bindable]
public var myCard:CardVO = new CardVO(); // create new instance of CardVO
public function button2_clickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void // save button
var myc:MyCards = new MyCards();
myc.add();
trace(myc.cards.list);
trace(myc.cards.length);
//card.fTitle = titleCard.text;
//mycArray();
titleCard.text = "Card Added!";
<s:TextInput id="titleCard" x="240" y="10" height="62" chromeColor="#515851" color="#060606"
contentBackgroundAlpha="1.0" contentBackgroundColor="#FFFFFF" text="{myCard.Title}" change="{myCard.Title = titleCard.text}"/>
<s:SkinnableContainer
id = "groupt" x="161" y="88" width="703" height="357" >

<s:TextArea id="mtext2" visible="false" x="0" y="0" width="703" height="357"
color="#000000" contentBackgroundAlpha="1.0"
contentBackgroundColor="#FFFFFF" editable="true" enabled="true"
paddingTop="70" text="{myCard.Side2}" change = "{myCard.Side2 = mtext2.text}"
textAlign="center"/>
<s:TextArea id="mtext1" x="0" y="0" width="703" height="357" color="#030303"
contentBackgroundAlpha="1.0" contentBackgroundColor="#FFFFFF" editable="true"
enabled="true" fontFamily="Arial" fontStyle="normal" fontWeight="normal"
lineThrough="false" paddingTop="70" text="{myCard.Side1}" change="{myCard.Side1 = mtext1.text}"
textAlign="center" textDecoration="none" verticalAlign="middle"/>
</s:SkinnableContainer>

The cards array collection items appear to be another list of items instead
of just items?

• Why does Safari close each night, overnight?

Why does Safari close each night, overnight? I leave my iMac computer on overnight and Safari always stayed open until I closed it. This closing nightly is new within the past two months. I have Safari version 7.1 and OSX 10.9.5. Is this a setting I can adjust? I am not interested in updating to Yosemite at this time for a solution.

You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Besides the files listed in the linked support article, you may also need to remove this file in the same way:
~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.ltvbit.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those you find, remove them as well.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those.
After removing the malware, remember to reset your home page in all the web browsers affected, if it was changed.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
if it's not already checked.

Why my safari browser is not opening pdf files?I'm currently using the lat 2013 macbook pro with os mavericks and all my software is uptodate?

Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

• Why does Safari still accept cookies, even when I put Block Cookies "Always"

Why does Safari still accept cookies, even when I put Block Cookies "Always",? There are always a list of every website with cookies. Is that just a record of what could've been accepted or its a bogus feature that still accepts regardless of what feature is on?

Apple has rolled over users since OS X 10.6.8 when this issue first appeared.
If you want a browser that actually CARES about it's users, then install Firefox, it's the only one that does.

• Why does safari close constantly on ipad1?

why does safari close constantly on ipad1

Could be any one of many things. Try these...
Clearing Safari's history, cookies, cache
Reset the iPad... press the home and sleep/lock buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
Shut down and restart the app...
- From any Home Screen, double tap the home button to bring up the Recents List
- Tap and hold any icon in this list until they wiggle
- Press the red to delete the offending app from this list.
- Press the home button twice when done.
- Restart the app

• Why won't Adobe reader no longer let me view previously download (from Safari) pdf's? I am running OSX 10.8.5 and have uninstalled and reinstalled latest version of Reader?

Why won't Adobe reader no longer let me view previously download (from Safari) pdf's? I am running OSX 10.8.5 and have uninstalled and reinstalled latest version of Reader. I get this error message "Adobe Reader could not open 'OD Test Bed Proposals_0.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)." I have tried changing the 'open with' options too. Thanks

Try this:
Go to: Mac HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins
Trash the AdobePDFViewer.plugin and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin files
Empty the trash
Relaunch Safari. You can now download undamaged PDFs.

• Why would Safari try to insert an s, as in https, into the facebook log in. Safari won't open the secure page. Advice?

Why would Safari try to insert an s, as in https, into the facebook log-in page. "Safari can't connect to this secure page." I've checked preferences and cannot find a reason for this change to the regular facebook address. Safari 5.0.5 on MacbookAir. I can't even download the updated software.

If you leave your session idle for a while, the site might log you out due to inactivity, but... I wouldn't trust that, either.
Usually your bank will have a link, menu, or some other way to log out. Certainly that is the best thing if you can do it. Sometimes if a site is not fully compatible with Firefox its style rules will result in a jumbled layout. You can disable all the style rules and view the site in a plainer layout to see whether you can spot the missing link. To do that:
tap the Alt key > View menu > Page Style > No Style
(The tab will remain unstyled going forward. You can use the same menu to reapply the page's style sheets later.)
Also, if you want to break the connection between Firefox and your banking session, you can clear your cookies for the bank site. This won't necessarily have any effect on your banking session ''on the server'' but should make it impossible for someone to use your Firefox to do anything in that session. To clear cookies for the current site, you can use the Page Info dialog. Here are 3 ways to open it:
* right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
* Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
* click the padlock on the address bar > More Information > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then reload the page and the site should behave as though you are not logged in.
