Why isn't iChat an option?

Hello, I am having an issue with Address Book.
I've pretty much gotten all of the Screen Names for all of my Contacts (who have Screen Names). Now when I click on the Screen Name a drop-down menu appears and it gives me two options:
iChat
Perform search with Spotlight
This is all well and good except the iChat option is grayed out....
I thought maybe it was because iChat wasn't open...
No.
Then I thought maybe it was because all of my Contacts were offline...
No.
In fact a friend of mine is online right now and her "iChat" option is still grayed out.
Someone help, please. I know it's petty, but it's the principal of the thing!

This is best answered by an ichat tutorial, but try the following:
Both your friend and yourself must have your computers set to make yourself available to each other for ichatting. For security and invasive reasons, this is user controllable and important to set up prior to chatting. For example, it sounds like that although your friend is online, she is not available for chatting according to security/ichat settings.
In other words, try the following first:
Each of you should open ichat
Go to the "preferences" under "ichat" menu
Look at the general settings-if the box next to ""when i quit iChat set my status to Offline" is checked on either computer, then the person with the checked box will not be available to anyone on line.
If the box "at user login, set my status to Available" is checked, then you will see a little cloud icon in the upper right hand portion of the menu bar near the spaces or airport or volume icon...
Click this once to reveal your status, make sure you and your friend are set to "available"
Under accounts (in preferences again)-check to see if "when iChat opens, automatically login" is checked for both of you. This will allow your computers to both login to the ichat "server" (i am no tech guy) and talk.
Under security settings-make sure "block everyone" is not checked and if "allow people in my buddy list" is checked, make sure you are each in your buddy list. Again, go back to the ichat cloud/loop in the upper right of the menu bar and pull down the menu to buddy list. Use the"+" sign to add each other to your respective buddy lists and make sure you have your account info at hand.
You both have an account, right?

You enable iTunes Match on your iPad by making sure your are signed into the Apple ID you used to subscribe in iTunes Match in Settings>iTunes & App Stores, then turning iTunes Match and Show All Music to On.
Also, iTunes Match doesn't use your iCloud storage plan so you don't need to purchase a storage upgrade to use it.

Why isn't there an option to send a photo right after taking it?

Currently, after taking a picture you can click on that picture in the lower right corner of the camera screen.
Once you do that, you can choose < Camera Roll, Done, Edit, Trash.
Why isn't there an option to choose that photo and send it as a Message, Email, etc. right there, instead of having to close the camera, go back to your photo albums, then choose the picture (which may take a little while if you have a lot of photos), and then choose the sending method?
Its kind of frustrating when you want to quickly send a pic!

There on my phone running iOS 7.0.4. Reset your phone:
Press the Sleep/Wake button & Home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the Apple logo, then release.
Bear in mind, won't be there if taking a pic from the lock screen.

I'd like to be able to let my 3 year old watch videos on the iPad, but young kids want to touch the screen. I need a method to disable the touch screen. Seems simple, why isn't this an option?
Is there a way to write an app that allows the side switch to act as a "hold" switch?

The obvious solution is to put the iPad screen out of his reach. Now that's innovative!

Why doesn't Firefox for Android support 32/24-bit colour? When will it be enabled? Why isn't it an option?

Can anybody explain why this isn't an option? 16-bit colour has massive amounts of banding and it would very nice if there was at least an option to toggle between 16-bit and 24/32-bit colour.

If that's the case make an optional toggle so I can turn it on a fast device such as my HTC One X and turn it off on slower devices.
Frankly put all the browsers I've tried use 32/24 bit colour whereas firefox is the only browser that I've tired that dosen't use the higher bit depth so at the moment I'm forced to use dolphin and so are many others who ask me for browser recommendations. I would prefer to use firefox but I can't at the moment until this is changed. I'm not the only one either.

Why isn't there an option to record future shows using the HD box linked to a Multi room DVR setup?

I have a multi room DVR in my livingroom and HD boxes in my 2 bedrooms. Currently if you are viewing a program on one of the HD boxes you are able to record the live program you are viewing as the HD box will enable your DVR to record that show.
Why hasn't FIOS enabled the settop boxes that are part of a multi room DVR setup to be able to record future shows? Needless to say, if I am lying in bed at night and see something in the program guide airing at a future date I really don't want to get out of bed and walk to the living room, turn on the TV and DVR and then program that new recording.
If I have missed something and you can do this please let me know. Otherwise FIOS should add this to their customer's wish list and enable recording for future times on the HD boxes that are part of your multi room DVR system!

You can already do that. Highlight the show in the guide and press the record button. You should get a pop up with the option to Set Reminder or Record on your DVR. If it doesn't check your DVR to ensure that availability is extended to the STB you are using.

Why isn't RUN an option when downloading files?

When I download executable files (such as an upgrade for Firefox), a box appears that asks what I want to do with the file: Save or Cancel. There is never a Run option. Why?
Every time I download something, I need to use Internet Explorer.

Think about it for starters. If a newer computer user were to run a Iamreallyatrojan.exe with Firefox, who are they going to likely blame, Mozilla or themselves? is another reason besides the should be obvious security.
Even IE downloads it first before running it without doing any scanning first.

Options should be the norm. Safari should be allowed to evolve through interaction with users -- not by dictation from timid anti-innovators in Apple's hierarchy.
I don't need to see the site title -- if I don't know which site I am at I can look at the location bar url. Shesh.

Why isn't the SD option working for some tv shows?

For convenience sake, I download a lot of tv shows, and I have always had the option of choosing SD or HD. For some shows (for example, Devious Maids) it will only let me choose HD now, though I have bought it in SD before. Most of the shows are still available in SD on Amazon, but I prefer iTunes. Anybody else experiencing this and does anyone have an explanation?

Either your words are not 3D layers or your Composition is set to Front View. You must be looking at the Active Camera view to see what the camera moves will look like when rendered.
If that doesn't solve your problem then select the camera layer and the text that is not moving, press the U key twice to reveal all modified properties and send us a full resolution screenshot by dragging it into the Reply field on this forum.

My mac book pro is an early 2012 model. I recently bought the apple tv, netflix works great, but my computer is not showing the mirroring option, do I need to download anything else in order for the mirroring option to work/show up?

It is your OS, you need OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion and you have OS X 10.7 Lion. Get it from the app store.

I have had an itunes account for years and use a credit card for my purchases. I received an itunes gift card and redeemed it but the itunes store does not give me the option to use my redeemed balance and automatically cahrges my credit card. How do I use the redeemed balance?

If what you bought was a gift, it's supposed to do that. If not, click here and ask the iTunes Store staff for assistance.

Why isn't there an option for new tabs to open to your homepage?

This was an option in previous versions of Firefox. What sense does it make to remove functionality?
I don't want to have to middle click my home button, and it's absolutely ridiculous to have to install an extra addon to restore basic features that were included in versions that came out 5 years ago.
What's the deal?

Of course, just like all the others before it, it will eventually break the functionality of itself or another addon in some way or form and we will once again have to find a replacement that restores this very basic feature which other browsers have implemented but Firefox has taken away.
I never gave Chrome or any other browser the time of day because I never needed to, but since Mozilla devs are removing basic features that people want and continually refusing to re-implement them (due to stubbornness or stupidity, 7 years in the making) it's beginning to sound like a better alternative every second.

Why isn't JPG an option for opening an image in Photoshop?

When Photoshop is chosen as the external editor, you only have a choice of TIFF or PSD as the file format. So when I wanted to make a small change to a 3 MB jpeg image in Photoshop, it came back into Aperture as a 40 MB alternate master file. This is crazy! I can't afford enough disk space for 40 MB files every time I want to modify an image in Photoshop! Am I missing something here?

The idea at work here is that Aperture is a non-destructive editor, and that you don't degrade your image quality until the final export. If you go to JPEG mid process and then make more edits then do a final export as JPEG, you're degrading your images twice... Pretty much any type of editing will occur at a higher quality in PSD or TIFF than in JPEG, even if you can't always notice it.
If you don't want to dedicate the disk space to those versions permanently, all you have to do is sort your project by file size within Aperture after you've done your final export, then delete the TIFFs/PSDs, which will naturally float to the top. If you put a lot of work in them, burning a DVD of them before losing them would be a good idea.
This is really "best practices," and as such Aperture is doing the right thing.

As a Welsh speaker I would prefer my iPhone language settings to be in Welsh. It would make it easier for me to message people if I was reading everything in my first (and primary speaking) language.

Why isn't email an option in my profile settings? Help!

Hello folks. I'm new to blackberry use and have noticed that mine only displays a blinking red light when i get new email. I did some research and it appears I can change this in my profile setting. But when I try to do so, Email doesn't appear to be one of the settings.
I inherited this thing from work and am somewhat confused. All my says under active is:
Browser, level 1 messages, Messages (desktop), messernger alert, messenger new message, etc etc. It doesn't seem to have email on it.
Can anyone shed some light? thanks.

You're office mail is configured and your on BlackBerry Enterprise Service (BES), meaning you're getting your work email. This means your Message (desktop) is your work email notification. Now you can integrate personl emails on BlackBerry using the following steps -
Go to Email Settings icon on your device
Login using the user name and password (if already set by you)
Under Services click on Email Account
Click on Add An Email Account to integrate any POP or IMAP enable email (i.e... gamil, hotmail, ISP mail etc)
To create BlackBerry.net ID click on Create A BlackBerry Email Address
Type your preferred User Name and enter your Password for that ID
After every successful email integration you'll receive an confirmation email from Activation Server. That's it!! You're done with BIS email ID integration.
