Why my servlet doesn't run

Hi, all
Ask a stupid question, i install tomcat 4.1.31, i can see those sample servlet, even i put my sample servlet into example folder, i still can see them. However, when i want to see http://localhost/servlet/HelloServlet
It gives me this error messge:
The requested resource (/servlet/HelloServlet) is not available.
I checked my classpath, and make sure all folders are correct, it still gives me the same error.
Can anyone advise it?
Thanks
David

hi dawang.... even i encountered the same problem when i used servlet the first time... make sure ur storing ur servlet class file in the url.. webapps\oot/web-inf\classes\helloservlet .. if its is correct then u just need to enable the invoker servlet.. for this go to the conf\web.xml ...open the xml file and do the following changes
To enable the invoker servlet, uncomment the following servlet and servlet-mapping elements in install_dir/conf/web.xml. Do not confuse this Apache Tomcat-specific web.xml file with the standard one that goes in the WEB-INF directory of each Web application.
<servlet>
<servlet-name>invoker</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>
org.apache.catalina.servlets.InvokerServlet
</servlet-class>
</servlet>
<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name>invoker</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>/servlet/*</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>
it worked with my tomcat 5.5.7.. and hope it goes the same with u... and anyways if u don't want to save ur servlet in the root directory... make ur own webapplication inside the webapps directory and use the following url... http://localhost:8080/webappname/servlet/helloservlet... or if the file is saved in root directory use the following http://localhost:8080/servlet/helloservlet...
make sure ur not using any package to store ur servlet or using a package in ur servlet prog...
if ur doing so... just make another directory in ur classes directory.. with the same name as ur package and store the servlet class file there
and use the following url
http://localhost:8080/servlet/pacakagename.helloservlet
mind u 8080 is the default port no. of my tomcat installlation.. if u have anyother port no.. do mention that.
i hope this would help u solve ur problem...

    I copy the my html file which has this applet built-in to my local computer. The webpage can be openned and the applet running fine even with jre1.4.1. Why it didn't run with Jre1.4.1 and it did run with jre 1.3.1 when loading remotely? Could someone tell me what the above messages mean? Is this a bug from Jre1.4.1_01?
    I have running server at 206.29.25.29. and select "read sensor". Jre1.4.1_01 will not let the applet run, but jre1.3.1 does.
    Is there any body know about this issue?
    Thanks,

    TM does not work like that.
    If you want files to use later.. do not use TM.
    Or do not use TM to the same location. Plug a USB drive into the computer and use that as the target for the permanent backup.

  • Mapping paths to servlets doesn't work anymore in SP5 ??

    Hello,
              see subject.
              I have a small web application which is contained in a WAR-file named
              "httpdump.war". Its deployment descriptor (web.xml) maps the servlet
              httpdump.HttpDumpServlet to the path /servletpath/* with the following
              XML statements:
              <servlet>
              <servlet-name>HttpDumpServlet</servlet-name>
              <display-name>The HTTP Dump Servlet</display-name>
              <servlet-class>httpdump.HttpDumpServlet</servlet-class>
              </servlet>
              <servlet-mapping>
              <servlet-name>HttpDumpServlet</servlet-name>
              <url-pattern>/servletpath/*</url-pattern>
              </servlet-mapping>
              In weblogic.properties, I have:
              weblogic.httpd.webApp.httpdump=httpdump.war
              The WAR-file is structured as follows:
              $ jar tf httpdump.war
              META-INF/
              META-INF/MANIFEST.MF
              WEB-INF/classes/httpdump/HttpDumpServlet.class
              WEB-INF/web.xml
              dummy.jsp
              $
              Now a request like http://host:port/httpdump/servletpath/xyz should be
              directed to my servlet, right?
              This works flawlessly in WLS 5.1 SP 3. With SP 5, I get the following:

    Hi,
              we jared our servlets up and placed them in /WEB-INF/lib/....jar. The
              mapping is working without any problems.

              Yes, this is already a known problem in SP5.
              Fix will be available in the upcoming service packs.
              I guess the workaround is to put servlet classes in servlet classpath.
              Sorry about the regression.

  • Gentoo doesn't run a Java (Flash) application but Ubuntu yes

    Hello everybody.
    I can't find a solution to a Java-Flash-Gentoo related problem.
    I would like to run a Java program, using an [external library|http://djproject.sourceforge.net/ns/] , to realize a Java FlashPlayer. This is the code of the player:
    package testplayer;
    import chrriis.dj.nativeswing.swtimpl.NativeInterface;
    import chrriis.dj.nativeswing.swtimpl.components.JFlashPlayer;
    import java.awt.BorderLayout;
    import java.awt.EventQueue;
    import javax.swing.JFrame;
    import javax.swing.JPanel;
    public class Main implements Runnable {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            NativeInterface.open();
            EventQueue.invokeLater(new Main());
            NativeInterface.runEventPump();
        public void run() {
            JFlashPlayer player = new JFlashPlayer();
            JPanel panel = new JPanel(new BorderLayout());
            panel.add(player);
            JFrame window = new JFrame("Test");
            window.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.DISPOSE_ON_CLOSE);
            window.add(panel);
            window.setSize(400, 400);
            window.setVisible(true);
            player.load("http://www.youtube.com/v/XyX-KJwUohw");
    }A window should be opened and the youtube video should play as well. Here's what I get on Gentoo Linux.
    [http://i.imgur.com/XyYdk.png]
    It doesn't find the flash plugin actually, even though it is installed and properly working.
    My Gentoo is x86_64 architecture and if I try to run the same application on Ubuntu (x86_64), it works like a charm.
    At the moment my www-plugins/adobe-flash USE flags are the following: 64bit -32bit.
    Why this piece of code runs on Ubuntu and on Gentoo not????
    Could it be something related to some environment variable?
    Thanks a lot!

    I asked to the mantainers yet actually, but they didn't solve me the problem at the moment.
    Perhaps some of you could have an idea of what I am missing on Gentoo.
    What I can tell you, is that I tried to run that application on a fresh Debian installation and I've got the same problem.
    So this happens because of something that is missing. But what?? :(

  • Page rendering process doesn't run after validation error

    I have a page rendering process (On Load - After Regions) that needs to be run for my page to be rendered properly; however, it doesn't run when the page is rendered after a validation error. In debug mode, I see the following line:
    "0.05: ......do not perform process because inline validation condition found."
    Is this a bug? Validations are meant to prevent execution of On Submit processes, but is there a reason to also not run rendering processes?
    I need to dynamically construct some javascript and insert it somewhere after a certain item on the page. Is there a workaround?
    Thanks.
    Rodney

    Rodney,
    Let me see if I understand your question:
    1. A page is rendered
    2. The page is submitted
    3. A validation fires and fails
    4. The page is re-rendered displaying the validation error message
    5. Your on-load after regions process did not fire
    You want to run a process in all cases; in the standard page load case (1) and in the re-load case (4).
    You can do this by creating a region of type PL/SQL. You can give the region a null template so that it will not display any values. The region can be the last one displayed on the page; so that it will be run last.
    You also asked if it is a bug that the on-load after regions process did not fire; as the debug message indicates this is proper. Here is an example that illustrates why you typically don't want to perform processes when rendering a page after it was posted causing a validation to fire.
    Lets take the following example:
    1. create a form on the emp table; assume a salary column called "SAL"
    2. create a validation that says the salary must be numeric
    3. edit a row of the EMP table
    4. change the employee job from clerk to manager; and enter a "X" in the salary item
    5. submit the page
    6. the validation will fire; page processing will stop; and the page will be re-displayed
    7. the process which fetches the rows will not fire; and the page will be re-displayed; the job item will display the change from "clerk" to "manager" and salary will still contain the invalid "X" value. If the process had fired it would have replaced the values in the form.
    My recommendation is that you use regions for any processing that is UI releated. I hope this helps.
    Mike

  • Why I can't use javac? and why my program doesn't pop up cmd window?

    I have 2 questions here:
    1) I try to compile my HelloWorld.java using command prompt,
    javac HelloWorld.java
    But it won't work; by right it should create a HelloWorld.class. When I go to Configure/Options/JDK Profile, it is already showing JDK version 1.6.0_07. My environment variables show User variables and System variables with C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_07\bin. This is where my JDK is stored, but I don't know why I can't use javac. It keep saying
    'javac' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file
    2) Why is it when I run my java script using JCreator, the print out appear in the box below in JCreator and not in command prompt? How can I make it pop up on command prompt window?

    Things tend to move fasterYep... until something goes wrong... then you're completely stuffed, because you have no idea what's actually happening, because the idjit IDE is hiding all the gory details... it doesn't even tell you what it's doing, let alone how it's doing it, or what to do when it fails.
    Another argument for the command line is that it's simple. There are 16 distinct dialogues involved in adding a new jar to a library in jBuilder... There may well be less than 16 characters in the equivalent edition to the equivalent build command line. That's an extreme case, I admit, but it goes to disprove the notion that IDE's are simpler for noobs.
    Also, it's easier to get help on command line usage... because it's all text based you can just copy & paste the problematic command and it's output, and the eggspurts (tm) can do likewise with a response... and there are limited number of command lines out there... and *nix, windows, and mac cover maybe 99.5% of java users... and the eggspurts are likely to know all three (colectively if not as individuals) fairly well, because they deal with them all day every day.
    My belief is that noob's are better off at the command line until such time as they need (not just want to play with) a visual debugger... at which time its time to download netbeans and eclipse, and see which one suits you better... if you have money to splurge I'd also evaluate intelliJ... But avoid jBuilder, 2008 is total carp! The FREE eclipse is (IMHO) "nicer to use", and it has a LOT less bugs.
    Cheers. Keith.

  • Portege R700-172 Firefox Portable doesn't run Win7 x64

    Hi,
    does anyone uses succesfully the firefox portable on this machine? It doesn't run on my machine. I guess it doesn't support Windows 7 x64?

    Hi
    As far as I know the firefox portable is designed for mobile usage.
    Means you can place it on USB flash stick and it does not need to be installed on the OS.
    Therefore I doubt that the Win 7 64bit OS is the reason why its not working.
    The firefox portable is based on official build of the common Firefox browser and it compatible with Win 2000, Win XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7.
    In your case I would ask in Firefox forums for further details and information.
    But it would be interesting to know, what could cause this so please share the info with us if you will get further details

  • Why does my Mac Mini running on Mavericks so slow to start and load apps?

    Why does my Mac Mini running on Mavericks take so long to start and load apps?

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
    There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
    ☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
    ☞ Paste into the window of another application.
    ☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
    ☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
    The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
    and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
    If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
    to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
    At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with "Model Identifier." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
    If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Why do Servlet exists when there are JSP's ?

    Hi !
    I am wondering for quite a few days now , why do servlet exist , jsp's can do all the things which a servlet can do and JSP's are yet easier to embed HTML tags etc.
    Please throw some light on the matter as i feel that i am missing a major difference.
    Best Regards
    Rajarshi.

    beacuse servlets first came into existence and then jsp's.Exactly.
    Servlets were developed first.
    It was then discovered how much of a pain it was in a servlet to debug/change HTML - everything had to be in an out.println() statement();
    That made it very difficult to do complex HTML - and impossible to use any tools with.
    JSP turned it around so it wasn't java code creating HTML, but rather an HTML page that runs some java code. It then went too far down that path, as JSPs don't support all the syntax/type checking that a compiler provides in a servlet.
    Also reading a page which is a mix between HTML and java scriptlet code is very difficult.
    Enter tag libraries, which take the java code back OUT of the jsp pages, replacing it with stuff that looks like HTML tags.
    Enter frameworks like Struts/Tapestry/JSF which leverage design of web applications.
    This is an evolving technology. The next generation learns from the mistakes/shortcomings of the previous, and gradually becomes easier.
    What will be the next step? Who knows?
