Why won't the copying action stop? How do i quit it so i can shut down? Items i tried to copy to either my hard drive or my USB memory are not copying - why? And now can't quit them either!
I have a Western Digital My Book hard drive which i use to store my media/data/back up. I tried to transfer some files on my desk top to it yestrday and it was taking forever so decided to stop it. Now it just shows under the Copying box, stopping but it isn't? I tried then to down load the same images t my USB memory stick and now that is doing the same. I wonder if i is to do with upgrading to Mavericks as no problems before?
I have check my WD My book on another computer and thankfully all mmedia is still in tack!
How can i quit this copying so i can shut down my computer?
Any ideas as to why items are not copying to external memories and what if anything can i do to get it copying correctly again?

option discovered in preferences. Really this and any feature that moves deletes or edits a users data should as far as possible be OFF BY DEFAULT. It shouldn't by default and without the users specific say do this dangerous and unnecessary thing without even letting the user know what it's doing!!! And then cause me a few hours (as i'm new to mac) searching for the option so as to switch it off. If i hadn't noticed the status cage declaring that it was copying files then i might never have twigged that this insane thing was occurring. And if i hadn't of noticed i would have been left maintaining the contents of the folder i copied the files to, the folder which as far as i was informed and so believed was also the location of the music files i was playing. How does Apple justify this 'genius' piece of software non-design? Surely it will hurt no one if this was off by default for new users - overall at least i dare say it would cause a lot less distress in the future for the unsuspecting public at large. Take the following steps:
1) while connected to wifi, toggle off then back on the Show All Music and iTunes Match options shown in my original post. Important: I did this step before, but wasn't connected to wifi, and my music disappeared. Subsequently, I connected to wifi and turned off and then back on those options and everything came back though it was grayed out and my only option was to download music.
2) To get streaming over cellular back, go into Settings>General>Cellular and scroll down to the "Use Cellular Data for:" options and make sure the iTunes option is set to 'On'
The above steps will bring back the streaming capability which seemed to go away when you update to 6.1. It didn't ACTUALLY go away, but something about the update toggled off the iTunes option in step 2 above.
I did a final test by turning off wifi, opening Music app and selecting a song. It played successfully without downloading! Crossing my fingers, but I think I'm good to go!

I upgraded to 10.8.2 but can't find my Notes from before I upgraded. The new Notes are not in Mail and I can now add new Notes but I can't find my old Notes.
First, make sure iCloud is selected as the default account in the Notes settings on the iPad. If it is, sign out of iCloud and sign back in.

My computer is full and I need to remove movies and tv shows out of itunes and save them in an external hard drive. I cant figure out how to save them so I will be able to access them again. Or store them in the cloud
Do not store them in the Cloud. It isn't really storage. For iTunes purchases, for example, it is just re-downloading a purchase. If a label decides to no longer make the item available it will disap[pear from the cloud and that will be it for you.
You can't store items on an external drive simply by dragging them there. That's too complicated for iTunes and how it is set up to work. I know I post on this 10x a week and there's many other posts discussing this. I suggest you browse a bit first. Your options are basically to either put your whole library on the eternal drive (which is a nuisance if you don't want to drag it everywhere with you), or to copy individual items to the external drive, delete them from the internal drive, then re-add them as new items (re-adding to playlists, etc.). -

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps. -
I have been using my Seagate Free Agent 500g external hard drive for years without even a hint of a glitch but this morning I trying plugging in the usb and got an error message that stated that the hard drive was pulling too much power and was being diabled. So now I cannot get the hard drive to connect period. What do I do - could it be a power cord issue?

Any solutions on how to delete the "ghost songs" ?
P.S I deleted all the songs from itunes and restored from backup but that did nothingMine had been fading for a while before the warranty was up, and then became mostly unchargeable in the eleventh month.
I took it to a Genius bar where they were able to test it and swap it for a new iPod touch.
Just make sure you have done a very careful backup before you go, I have had weird sync problems after the swap, getting my stuff back.
I suggest the simplest method is to clear off just about everything you can, especially the photos. Less to chase when things go pear shaped.

Downloaded much and now can not see how to fix it?I hate the new downloads-in-a-tab scheme. This was an unnecessary change in my book (if it aint broke, don't "fix it").
So in order to get it back, I performed the about:config browser.download.useToolkitUI change, but now all I get is a blank download window that pops up every time I download something.
Is there something else that I need to do? I've checked the change and it was saved, but it didn't resolve my issue as much as it just caused me a new issue. -
I was using my notes earlier today and now for some reason they are all gone. How does this happen and is there anything I can do to get them back, the new ones also that haven't been synced.

my photoshop elements and Lightroom serial numbers won't work for my new mac. I bought these softwares via download on my windows laptop but returned that laptop because the quality was not great. I decided to buy a mac and now can't use my serial numbers to download the software.

Why won't the project manager export all of my media when copying to a new a folder?
Trying to consolidate a project by using the project manager. It exports most of the files fine but some consistently won't copy to the new folder. Any idea what causes this? It's pretty frustrating considering I'm supposed to hand over a hard drive of the media managed project for the next steps in post very soon and would be a huge waste of time to search for all the individual files and copy them over manually.
What version of Premiere and which Resulting Project option are you using (Collect Files and Copy to New Location or Consolidate and Transcode)? Also, are the files that won't copy a specific type of file or any other details, and does Premiere provide any error information (dialog and/or information in the Events panel)?

I recently browsed ITunes UK store and now can't get back to my iTunes US store. The UK store won't accept my email address as it is in use. So, effectively, I can't make an iTunes purchase. And, this password changing is madness. Everytime I sign in iTunes doesn't recognize my password and so I have to get a new one even though I've answered the useless security questions. Has anyone solved this problem before?
Funny how this seems to be one of the most-asked questions on the Internet. In most cases, no answer is ever checked as "Correct," either. Most answers, as on this page, say to click the flag at the bottom right-hand corner of any store page. The problem? There's only one flag!!! And it's the one of the country we don't want to be in!!!
Just in case this helps someone: what worked for me was to sign in. It then told me my id was not valid for this country, and switched me back to the US. How I was ever able to buy something from the UK store in the first place is beyond me.
By the way, Apple, experiences like this, and many, many other horrible ones with iTunes, is why those of us who do not live in the Apple world continue to stick to their Microsoft PCs. -
i have deleted my private folder and do not have enough space to reinstall my operating system. How can i transfer files from my hard drive to an USB drive to free up space when the operating system isn't working. or do i need to erase disk through disk utilities without erasing data (but will it delete my programs such as photoshop, office, creative suite?
Connect the computer to another Mac and put it in FireWire Target Disk mode, or use the Disk Utility to clone the drive or image specific folders with the USB drive as the target. After you've copied off everything you want, you'll likely need to erase the drive and reinstall the applications.

I am very new to LR5. I have LR5 set up so that my catalog and photos are on an external hard drive. I found out that when not connected to the hard drive, LR5 cannot find my catalog, therefore, I cannot do any editing in smart previews unless connected to the external hard drive. How can I fix this issue so that I can edit photos without being connected to the external hard drive. Is there a way of copying the catalog off the hard drive on the computer hard drive or do I need to reestablish a new catalog using LR5? Does the catalog always need to be loaded on the hard drive? Yes that is correct. The LR catalog must be on the computers internal drive. Then when you have Smart Previews enabled you can edit image without having the drive they are on connected. Then when you connect that drive the images will be updated.
Just COPY those 4 folders over to your internal drive to a folder called Lightroom Catalog that you create. Then Open LR and go to the File menu item and select Open Catalog. Browse to the folder you created called Lightroom Catalog and select the Lightroom 5 Catalog.lrcat file and click Open. Once Lightroom restarts open the preferences, Edit>Preferences, and on the General Tab in the Default Catalog section make sure "When starting up use this catalog:" area lists where you have copied those folders. Something like Macintosh HD/Wherever you created that folder/That folder name/Lightroom 5 catalog.lrcat. -

SUGGESTION FOR INTERNAL SUPERDRIVE
This might help. If you haven't done so yet, try installing Apple's SuperDrive Firmware Update 3.0, which is on Apple's support site at http://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201953 to see if that resolves it. Although it's not specifically for that problem, the firmware update seems to be important for making external SuperDrives work in Yosemite, and it is one step I used to get my SuperDrive to work in a USB external case when plugged into my MacBook Pro.
External SuperDrive DVD player fix - RESOLVED!
This solution worked for my Superdrive, which I had installed in a USB external case, so now it can play movies using Apples DVD Player App, but additional steps may be needed, as I outline below. I had removed the SuperDrive from my mid-2009 Macbook Pro 15" 2.53 ghz to install a second hard drive with Other World Computing's "Data Doubler" adapter, and mounted the SuperDrive in an OWC Value Line SuperSlim external case.
I don't know if the first two steps below are necessary, but I had done them first, because others suggested them as fixes before I found the solution in the 3rd step.
1) I installed Apple's SuperDrive Firmware Update 3.0, which is on Apple's support site at http://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201953 (Note: I had already done this step before removing my SuperDrive, which worked fine as in internal drive in Yosemite. However, when I first used the SuperDrive after installing it in an external case, it worked fine for data DVDs, but not for playing movies with Apples DVD Player.)
2) Then I applied a fix on this page, http://www.hardturm.ch/luz/2011/10/how-to-make-the-macbook-air-superdrive-work-w ith-any-mac/comment-page-12/#comment-106449, using Text Wrangler to edit the preference file at /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist by adding code mbasd=1 between the two string values. However, that still did not resolve the problem. I left the preference file with the code “mbasd=1″ included, as outlined on that site.
3) Then, I used the fix at http://macriot.com/mcrt/?p=2294 which requires modification of some code embedded into OS X’s DVDPlayback framework; essentially replacing the words “internal” with “external”
That did it! Now my external Superdrive plays movies using DVD Player.
