Why would code work for an application but not an applet?

Hey there,
i'm trying to build a java ftp upload applet. I'm using the enterprisedt ftp class.
The code works fine when i run it as an application but not when i put it in the applet. The applet has been signed and is running off a plug in. I get no error messages, just nothing happens.
Would really appreciate some comments.

I have a swing program that works perftectly fine if ran from the command prompt as an application, but once it is run as an applet through a browser some parts are not working. i have narrowed it down to the following lines of code that are the culprits through troubleshooting:

Apparently it doesn't want to create the FileOutputStream, even though this works fine if the program is run as an application. Does anyone know why this isn't working as an applet but works fine as an application?

Ok, here is what I've got:

And both this file and the configuration.dat are in a jar file that is signed, however it will still not write the configuration.dat file. It will read it with no problem. But no writing.

Why would hotspots work in the browser, but not in Device Central?

I exported a small prototype from Fireworks CS5 to HTML & Images & tested my hotspots in my Firefox browser. That worked fine.
Then in Device Central CS5 I did File > Open File & selected the home page for this protototype. None of the hotspots worked in Device Central.
Any clues? Shouldn't they work in Device Central?

My images are not usually layered and the particular case I am about to quote, it is not. The dimensions are 10,546 x 2,790 and the image has 16.7 mbs. I use 8 bit colour. When I set up the print screens for tiff, everything is normal until I get to the last screen with the image set upon the photo paper. Then the paper size indicated with the image refuses to budge from the A4 size, so the panorama gets printed on that. I consulted the Adobe chat line and the expert could 't get it to work either. So he came to the conclusion that the tiff capability had not been extended to printing panoramas. In seeking advice, I thought someone might refer me to an updating patch!

Airplay works for one user but not for another on the same machine

I have the problem where airplay works for one user but not for another and both users are on the same machine. For the user where it does not work, everything appears normal, it's just that there is no sound being transmitted. I have tried restarting the Airport express, restarting iTunes, repairing disk permissions. Any ideas about what can be done to resolve this?

I have this same issue and am becoming quite upset. NBA has absolutely no contact information to call and resolve this issue. I just spent $139.99 and cannot connect to Apple TV, while the same login works just fine on my iMac and iPad. Logic's preference files may have become corrupted:
1. Quit Logic Pro
2. In the Finder, press and hold down the "option" key then select "Library" from the "Go" menu
3. Open the "Preferences" folder
4. Drag the following files to the Trash:
    - com.apple.logic.pro.cs
    - com.apple.logic.pro.LSSharedFileList.plist
    - com.apple.logic.pro.LSSharedFileList.plist.lockfile
    - com.apple.logic.pro.plist
    - com.apple.logic.pro.plist.lockfile
These files will be re-created when Logic is next opened.

Classic - text ringtones work for one contact but not for others

Just got the new Blackberry classic. I'm having trouble with the ringtones for the text messages. The custom ringtone works for one contact but not for the others. I have taken the same custom ringtone that works for contact A and used it for contact B but it only works for A. B sounds the default ringtone from the default profile instead of the custom ringtone.
I have deleted all contacts and done a re-sync thinking something was corrupt. That didn't work.
None of the contacts have a link.
I have changed the notification profile and it still doesn't work.
I have deleted a contact and recreated it manually. It still doesn't work.
I finally deleted my dad's contact and from the phone app created a new contact. I set a custom ringtone for him and it worked. I of course had to recreate all his other information manually. Please tell me there is some other way to fix this than recreating manually all 147 contacts in my contact list.
I read that if the phone number has the hypen or space it won't work, but my dad's contact info that I created from the phone app has the hypen and it rings with the custom ringtone. Also contact A has no hypen in the phone number and it rings the custom ringtone. So that didn't seem to matter.
I have spent hours on Google and see that lots of people have had this problem (but not everyone) but have not yet found a solution.
Surely someone has found a fix for this issue.

Make sure that the contact has "Mobile" as the field for her number and not "iPhone".
Note that the iPad cannot send SMS messages.

Synaptics touchpad on 4540s works for one person but not another

The Synaptics touchpad on my ProBook 4540s (Win 7) works normally when I use it but when my wife tries to use it, the touchpad is unresponsive after a very slight initial cursor movement.  (Anticipating replies - Yes, she casts a shadow, pictures of her come out normally, and she has a visible reflection in a mirror.)     The touchpad sensitivity setting is maxed on light touch and cursor speed is maxed.
She has relatively small hands, and long nails, but she had no difficulty using the touchpad on our old HP dv9910us and has no problem with an iPad touchscreen.  This week she tried the touchpad on a Sony VAIO that was so worn most of the original surface coating is gone, and had no problem moving the cursor on that machine either.   She even tried the awkward solution of using her knuckle instead of her fingertip on the HP in case her nails were getting in the way, but that didn't work either.
Not having used a 4540s before, and not having access to another one to compare, I have no way to tell whether this is a bad individual touchpad unit or a design issue.   If a design issue, what's the workaround?     For instance, is there a skin I can put on the touchpad to increase its conductivity?

A friend of mine bought a ProBook 4540s yesterday. At Microcenter we noticed that the touch pad often would stop working for her, and sometimes for me, but it usually worked for me. She bought the laptop, and we she got it home we noticed the same problem. I played with the touchpad a little and noticed this pad has a very narrow window of operation. With the 14.1" HP's like the nc6220 or nc6400, you can use one finger, two fingers, even three fingers, and the mouse responds nicely. However if too much surface area is in contact with the touchpad of the 4540s it doesn't work. Too much surface area is the pad of your finger. Because my friend has long nails, she was laying her finger pretty flat on the touch pad, and it wouldn't work. When I used the pad like this it wouldn't work for me either. Because I have short finger nails I have always used the lower end of my tip. This works pretty well with the 4540s. Pressure seems to have little affect. It is a matter of surface area, and the acceptable area has a small range!

Magic Mouse One-Finger Swipe Works for one user but not the other

For the main account on my iMac, I can use a single finger swipe to move back and forward within Chrome. However the second user (also an administrator) cannot use this setting and must instead use the two finger swipe in settings. Both settings are identical but the Chrome browser wont recognize the single finger swipe for the second user. The gesture works fine in Safari, but not Chrome. Any suggestions?

HELP!! WRT54G2 works for one computer, but not for the other

I have a WRT54G2 and it is connected to 2 computers. The internet works in one computer, but not on the other. The tech support said i needed to configure it or firmware or something like that. But my product is out of warranty and I really need the internet on the other computer as well. Please Help!!!

As your one computer is working fine then there is no problem with the router so far...
The computer which is not working...check the IP Address on that...
Click Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> Command Prompt...A black box will appear(Command Prompt)...In the Command Prompt window type ipconfig and press 'Enter'...Look for Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection IP Address , Subnet Mask and Default Gateway...
IP Address should be 192.168.1.x, Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1 (assuming your router is 192.168.1.1)...
If you get the above mentioned IP Address, Subnet and Gateway Address then you should ping the Gateway, type ping 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...If it gives you request timed out then disable any firewalls, security softwares on the computer...
If you get 4 replies then type ping 4.2.2.2 and press Enter, if you get request timed out, then you need to upgrade your router's firmware...If you get 4 replies then type ping yahoo.com and press Enter...If you get replies for Yahoo then you should get the Internet after adjusting the browser settings...

Why does GarageBand audio work for guest user but not my account?

Hello, I have a 15-inch MacBook Pro (2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3) from late 2011 that I bought brand new in 2012. I'm running OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 and my MacBook has 500 GB of storage.
About a month or two ago I tried to download the new GarageBand (10.0.2) but I had trouble completing the loops download. The download would stop halfway through because of a network error. So last week I decided to try to download it again, and I was able to do so after reading some discussions about the issue. I successfully completed the download in safety mode and then I restarted my MacBook. At this point I was able to open GarageBand 10.0.2 and create a new project. Unfortunately, there was no audio coming through the output and sound bar for the various audio components in GarageBand. I had no audio when previewing the loops or playing it back in an audio track. I didn't really test anything else out because I figured I needed to fix this problem first. I have read many discussion boards about audio problems with GarageBand. I have already made sure everything is set properly in the GarageBand preferences and the audio preferences in system preferences. I've tried restarting GarageBand and restarting the computer.
This evening I found a discussion from the username icewhatice and they seemed to have had my exact problem. I'm not sure that I found the answer on this discussion though. For reference, this is what icewhatice posted: "I have no audio coming from Garageband 10.0.2. Downloaded it on Saturday and have spent the last two days trying to figure out why it won't work. I'm using a macbook pro with an Alesis QX49. GB registers keyboard when I plug it in but no sound whatsoever, not even from the onscreen keyboard. It seems to read the keyboard as if I play a C chord, it appears in the display. I've done all the obvious stuff like check preferences, restart, I've deleted and downloaded new GB several times and always with same result. Actually, it took me about four attempts to download it in the first place as I was getting an internet connection error message right at the end of the download, and I see others have had that problem. Managed to solve that by downloading in safe mode but now the no sound thing is driving me absolutely crazy because I can't play my keyboard!!!!! Also, worth noting that there is no audio level being read anywhere, I believe in the new version this appears in the volume control at the top. I've also looked into it potentially being a problem with my keyboard and it possibly needing an update but can't find any difinitive answer for that anywhere. I've stopped looking into that because the on screen keyboard doesn't even work - if that worked then I would know at least GB works and it's something to do with the keyboard. So, I am at a complete loss. If anyone has any ideas about why this is happening or what I could do to solve then I would be very grateful."
After reading this, I realized that I am unable to create new tracks, and I realized that I have the same problems with old projects saved from the last version of GarageBand I had. I have not tried to download GarageBand again since it did not work for icewhatice. léonie ended this post by saying: "Something is certainly wrong - either the current project, some settings in your user account, or the downloaded GarageBand version. Or incompatible software may be interfering. If a new project does not work, try to test by logging into a different user account, for example the "Guest User" account. Create a new project using this account. Does GarageBand work better from this account? Then we will need to troubleshoot your preferences."
I have tried this and started a new GarageBand project in the "Guest User" account. GarageBand was working fine in the "Guest User" account and all of the audio was working properly. Does anyone know how I should troubleshoot my preferences?

If an application is working in a different account, but not in your regular account,try t find out, what you configured differently in your own account, for example start-up items or preference panes you are using, applications and other helper tools, that are only installed for your regular account. As a first guess, remove GarageBands preference files from the user library in your Home folder.
But you will have to reset all settings you did in the GarageBand preferences dialog. And GarageBand will not remember the last project. You'll have to find the file manually.
Remove these files from your User Library to a folder on your Desktop:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.garageband10/
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.garageband.plist
~/Library/Caches/garageband
Quit GarageBand, then remove the files to a folder on the Desktop and restart the computer, before trying again to open GarageBand.
You user library may still be hidden, as is the default in Mavericks: To open your hidden user library:
Select the "Home" folder icon (the little house) in the Finder's sidebar and press the key combination ⌘J to open the "view options".
Enable "Show Library Folder".
Then open the Home folder and open the Library folder inside and navigate to the Preferences, Caches, or Containers folder. Remove these folders completely - don't leave anything inside: ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.garageband10/,
~/Library/Caches/garageband .

Why does the Java script work on my RSS feed work for Internet explorer but not for Firefox?

I have finished building the website for my Girlfriend and the only thing left is the RSS feed. It works just fine in IE 8 but in Fire Fox 9 when the widget is clicked a bookmark box pops up and asks if I want to save it as a bookmark. I am not a Java script programer so I am hoping for some help here!! Here is the script:

Error 1097 - function works in C++ application, but not in LabView

Good afternoon,
I have a C++ OpenCV application that I am trying to port to LabView for a co-worker. The application is fully functional when it's compiled standalone as an .exe. When called from LabView it reports error 1097.
However, this error is not being caused by not allocating momeory space or the way I am calling the DLL, because I can successfully run the DLL from LabView if I omit one function "findContours(..)" from being called inside my rotuine. Meaning that without this function I can send and receive an Image to my DLL and display it in LabView without a problem. This function is not being called directly from LabView either, it's called inside the main function that is being called by LabView.
That being said, the function allocates memory on its own for it's internal calculation purposes, I do not know what they are, but I know it works perfectly well in a standalone C++ application.
My DLL application consistenly uses 180Mb of memory without any leaks
My Question is:
Is it possible that LabView or windows may be preventing the DLL from allocating enough memory (I have 12Gb total)?
Is it possible to run the DLL as a separate application or in a different configuration that would prevent error 1097 from occuring?
How could LabView possibly be restricting the DLL?

error 1097 means that the function somewhere and somehow overwrote memory areas that LabVIEW monitors as its own during the call. This could be memory buffer function parameters that are unallocated or to small or stack variables or some other memory areas LabVIEW puts in place around the DLL call when the highest debugging level is selected for the Call Library Node. But lowering the debugging level is not the solution as the function certainly does something that it should not do.
What that could be is impossible to say without analyzing the actual C source code of the function and possibly all the other functions involved in this as well as all the Call Library Nodes. It could even be that its something that is not even directly evident from the C source code but an effect of some (falsely invoked) optimization from the used C compiler.
I assume that you have actually a self written wrapper DLL here and that is where I would focus on in my search. It is quite unlikely that the OpenCV source code itself would still contain such errors after that much of time.
