Why you should never buy HP laptops

Twice in less than two months I've been screwed by HP. First, the thousand+ dollar tx2000 tablet I bought for school stopped working 18-20 months after I bought it - 8-10 months out of its warranty. Mind you, never was it upgraded with other hardware or software. One day the display went blank for no reason and from then on it couldn't bear to stay on for too long until it eventually never came back on. When you tried to turn it on the lights would flash and everything would make noise like it was working but there was never a display on the screen or external monitor. I looked all over the internet for any reason or solution and was AMAZED how many people had the same problem. Not only did no given solution or workaround work, but every post had people claiming that HP knew the problem and had information on their website about extending the warranties for affected models, only when you tried to use the links provided, no such article exists on their website which had clearly been taken down. When I called their support I was continually told that my computer was out of warranty and for $390 dollars it would be fixed with a three month warranty included. Never was anyone helpful or in any way empathetic to the fact that the computer I needed for school was broke because the company had built a product that had failed. I have a Toshiba Satellite x205-SLi1, a Gateway 7405GX, and a Gateway 7510GX, all laptops and all between 2 and 6 years old and I have never had a problem with any of them or their support in warranty or out. Fast forward several weeks and my father, who knows nothing about computers hands me his Compaq Presario F500, which is just over 1 year old, because it has some problem he can't understand and within five minutes I know, it's THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. So I follow the same process of finding anybody with suggestions or hints in dealing HP and surprise, the links to the HP site where HP acknowledges the problems with those laptops no longer exist and no one in support is aware of any warranty extension. BE SMART - HP'S WILL NOT LAST LONG PAST THEIR WARRANTY. PERIOD. I've already bought a new tablet, a $2000 Toshiba with a three-year warranty standard and I will buy my Dad's new computer, maybe a Gateway or Dell. I don't buy enough computers for HP to care about screwing me, but as an Electrical Engineering student I am the most tech savvy person among my friends and I will never never never let anyone I know buy an HP ever. When my HP printer runs out of ink, (ink is the only thing anyone who sells printers actually makes money off of) , I'll throw it away after I smash it to make sure no one ever uses it and I'll buy a Lexmark. I don't have any interest in having my laptops repaired so that in a couple of months after their three-month warranty is up I'll be in the same situation. I am, however, interested in copying this post, that will no doubt be deleted immediately, and spamming it over the internet.

  • Zen 20GB and why you should just buy an ipod inste

I bought 2 creative zen 20gb players in Singapore about 2 years ago. Now this device is no longer supported by creative and they do not provide links to drivers etc. How hard is it to provide a link to old drivers
Don't get me started on the s**t software that Creative provided with it in the first place. I had to buy a third party application called Notmad explorer because the creative provided software was useless and basically incapable of uploading files to the device.
How about a docking station for your creative MP3 player Forget about it, Creative only provides those for Apple products and not for it's own Creative Zen 20gb.
I will no longer buy creative products or recommend them to anyone.
    EPIC FAIL CREATIVE!
Remember when Creative used to make great sound cards
Remember when Ensoniq made leading edge synthesizers
Remember when Emu used to make great synthesizers
    What happened !

I'm glad you are happy with you creative gear albinoni. If you bothered to read my post you will notice I didn't compare Creative Mp3 to iPods. I merely pointed out that Creative provides more accessories for iPod's than it does for the Creative product I bought.
The Creative Zen 20gb drivers are not on the Creative website. The "search archi'ves now" is a circular link. Where do you download the drivers

  • Why I will never buy another HP Laptop

So I guess I'll try Dell next, but unfortunately I still have to struggle with this hunk-o-junk I bought from HP for at least another year.
    Model: HP Pavilion dv8 1103TX
I've had so many issues, especially after 2 years, it's like HP designed the thing to start breaking after 2-years of 8hours/day usage.
    Problems include:
Quick-Launch Keys that have a mind of their own (rendering my wifi & bluetooth useless, since the keys switch them on/off at random) Took the laptop to the HP repair centre for this problem on the last day of it's warranty, and they ended up replacing the wrong part. (The speaker cover, instead of the Quick-Launch Keys)  After that my laptop was out of warranty and they refused to take it again without me paying for the repairs. The quick-launch button issue continues.
Charger issues - this is the one problem I've ALWAYS had with all my HP's, their chargers die after 2 years, like clockwork, like it was designed to do so, 4 co-workers/family got HP's more or less the same time as I did and we all started shopping for replacements chargers at the same time.
Endless other related power issues - The laptop would be charging but not know it, thinking it's running on battery, forcing me to change all my power schemes so that the system performance isn't affected. And when the laptop is charging, don't dare disconnect it, because it will not resume charging easily. (Note that this still happens at random even after replacing the battery and the charger)
Finger-print reader - Must be disabled else SSMS (SQL Server Management Studio) is unstable as hell and crashes for every second query you run. Too random? That's what I thought but Google it to check me up. Once I disabled the finger-print reader, SSMS worked like a charm.
Don't ever, EVER,  buy HP Laptops!

I, too, will never buy another HP. I have had 3 laptops in 7 years. My first was a dell and it worked well, but the harddrives crashed. I switched to HP mainly due to high ratings from Consumer Reports. It worked well for two years then I began to have problems on boot up. I decided to replace it before it crashed or further deteriorated. That's when I purchased my G-70 in fall of 2008. I have been pleased with the product, but am dismayed to know HP had knowledge of issues with its hinges. I, unfortunately, didn't know this until I began to experience the problem with my hinges and did a bit of research. I was even more dismayed to know the problem with my first HP was due bad motherboards and heat issues. I was never informed of the motherboard problem and subsequently missed the deadline to have my computer repaired.   These are the reasons I am no longer a loyal HP customer

  • Can I Upgrade my OS or Should I Buy New Laptop?

OK, so I have been out of the Apple loop for quite some time. This laptop is from 2008. I love it, but the OS is too old. I can't update Firefox or download Chrome. I am a student and need to figure out a solution very very soon as Fall quarter starts next week. The college uses a site that doesn't work well with Safari, it prefers Chrome. So, I can't use my computer to do work. So, a few questions:
    1. Can I upgrade OS? If so, how? Are there problems with this?
    2. Should I just buy a new MacBook Air from Apple?
    3. I have considered buying a MacBook Air used from Ebay, Amazon or Craigslist. Please tell me if you think this is a good or bad idea and why? What to look for on used computer? Being a student, I am obviously trying to save as much money as possible. Some say Ebay is good because of the great buyer protection. Please tell me your thoughts.
I don't use the computer for anything other than school work and searching the web. I don't need anything fancy.
Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!

It's a good idea to hash this out with someone at the Apple Store, who can show you the latest gear and its advantages/disadvantages. My responses are only mine; I hope others will chime in.
    1. Upgrade or update? You can't upgrade the OS, but every year, Apple updates the OS and offers features that can be quite appealing. I haven't experienced any problem with updates.
    2. You can buy a new MBA from Apple, but I strongly suggest looking at refurbs; just as good, at a reduction in price.
    3. You're safe with Amazon for the most part, though the price is nearly always retail. You can get a good machine on eBay, but it helps if you know your values and contact the seller before bidding. I don't trust Craigslist. Realize, however, that an eBay item probably won't have much or any of the original warranty, and some sellers may unload less-than-perfect machines. If you to the eBay route, insist on the return period if the machine seems to have problems.
Features you should be aware of? SSD disk size - how much space do you need? Screen size - do you want 11" or 13"? Battery issues - don't expect long battery life, though the 2013 shows an improvemen; assume you'll be using the wall adapter a lot.

  • Reasons why you should quit smoking

    Maybe once, maybe more...
You started out feeling the time was right, but for whatever reason, you're smoking again. Now, you're asking whether it's worth it to try quitting again. You bet it is!
Smoking is a dangerous and self-destructive habit. Various poisons contained within tobacco smoke cause or contribute to cancer of the mouth and lungs, heart problems, emphysema, gum disease and a variety of other physical diseases.
Cigarette smoking is the most preventable cause of premature death in the United States . That’s important! Want evidence of the dangers of smoking?
    Consider these statistics:
A smoker’s risk of heart attack is more than twice that of nonsmokers. Cigarette smoking is the biggest risk factor for sudden cardiac death -- smokers are looking at two to four times the risk of nonsmokers. Studies have shown that cigarette smoking is also an important risk factor for stroke. The evidence also indicates that chronic exposure to environmental tobacco smoke (secondhand smoke, passive smoking) may increase the risk of heart disease.
Most smokers sincerely want to quit. They know cigarettes threaten their health, set a bad example for their children, annoy their acquaintances and cost an inordinate amount of money.
Nobody can force a smoker to quit. It's something each person has to decide for himself., Sometimes the cigarette is used as a tranquilizer.. Once a smoker understands his own smoking behavior, he will be able to cope more successfully and select the best quitting approaches for himself and the type of life-style he leads.
Quitting is hard, but don't give up!
Quit smoking Now! For better Life,,!!!

With what I see now, I suggest that you wait a little bit, unless you can't , before buying your macbook pro. Here are the reasons:
-You plan on using boot camp as I can see, but I think it would be better for you to wait that Apple includes it in their next installement of Tiger (Leopard I think?). You would be certain that the program would work correctly.
-For the heat issue, maybe that if you wait that they get out a second and revised version of the macbook pro, the problem won't be there anymore (But we don't really know yet if the 17" macbook pro doesn't have this issue anymore).
But it's not really important, if you are alright with the heat and that you don't care about bugs with boot camp, buy one now.
For the size of the screen, I suggest that you go with a 15" MBP. From all the uses you told me you are going to make of it, I think you don't need to spend more bucks for a 17" MBP.
Unless you wish to have more space on your screen when you are using photoshop. The main advantage of a bigger screen is for the editing of movies with an editing program like Final cut Pro. Depends on your likeness.
But I have to tell you, if you plan on buying the MBP with the best specifications (2gigs of ram, 2,16gigahertz processor, 100gb 7200rpm), buy the 17". It's $100 cheaper! You can do the comparison for yourself in the internet store. But if you don't want your notebook to take too much space, then you'll have to buy the 15".
I hope this helped you out! Remember, it's up to you to choose, I just told you things to help you decide.

  • FAQ: Creating PDF Files from FrameMaker v.6 & earlier Documents -- Why you should not use "save as PDF"! -- Windows & MacOS Only!

An issue that has come up over and over again on several FrameMaker and Acrobat/PDF email lists as well on the corresponding Adobe User-to-User forums is that of creation of PDF files. FrameMaker 5.5.6 and 6 have what looks like a convenient feature that is supposed to allow you to create PDF files via simply saving the document as a PDF file. I have gone on record as advising end-users not to use this approach for reliable creation of PDF files from FrameMaker documents under Windows and MacOS with FrameMaker 6 and earlier. Why do I most vociferously offer this advice and why doesn't the problem get fixed? And how SHOULD you create PDF files from FrameMaker?
    GOOD NEWS
I will start with the good news. The "next major version" of FrameMaker will indeed have "save as PDF" re-implemented in a manner that it will be as reliable as printing to the "Acrobat Distiller" printer instance under Windows or the "Create Adobe PDF" desktop printer under MacOS. I am personally working with the FrameMaker development organization to make sure this really happens and is fully and properly tested and debugged! Furthermore, this next major revision of FrameMaker, unlike FrameMaker 6, will come with a Distiller installer that will properly install the "Acrobat Distiller" printer instance under Windows and the "Create Adobe PDF" desktop printer on the Macintosh (of course assuring that the latest PostScript driver is also automatically and correctly installed).
    DON'T USE "SAVE AS PDF"
But what's wrong with "save as PDF" as currently implemented?
The following are some of the SYMPTOMS reported over the last few years by FrameMaker users that were traced back to use of "save as PDF" under FrameMaker:
    (1) No PDF file is produced at all, possibly with a log file showing not-readily apparent PostScript errors during distillation.
    (2) The PDF file "loses" color in images. All or some images (raster, bitmap images, NOT vector artwork) appear in the PDF file in grayscale.
    (3) The resultant PDF file is on the wrong paper size, i.e., the document's logical page size does not match the output page size as seen in Acrobat or Acrobat Reader.
    (4) Some or all text in the resultant PDF file is blotchy looking or overly bold.
    (5) Some or all text in the resultant PDF file cannot be searched or indexed.
    (6) Some or all text in the resultant PDF file appears in Courier or in some other substitution font.
    (7) Interword or intercharacter spacing is a bit irregular in the resultant PDF file.
    (8) Content is missing in the margin areas of the page, i.e. you cannot do full-page bleeds.
    (9) Some or all page content is missing (other than margin areas).
    (10) Relatively inefficient PDF is generated.
If this list by itself isn't enough for you, please note that some of these symptoms are very subtle and may escape attention when the PDF is first viewed or printed. Oftimes, it is when one attempts to manipulate the PDF file in Acrobat or repurpose its content or even view or print on a system other than the one on which the PDF file was created, that some of these symptoms make themselves obnoxiously visible (or invisible in some cases I won't make any bad jokes here about graphic examples!).
It is important to understand that FrameMaker does NOT have its own native ability to create PDF. Any and all PDF created from FrameMaker documents is actually done by creating PostScript via the PostScript driver and having the Acrobat Distiller create PDF from that PostScript. The only exception to this is creation of PDF via the Acrobat PDFWriter driver, which is likewise not recommended (see below).
In order for "save as PDF" to work correctly, FrameMaker must do the equivalent of calling Printer Setup and selecting the "Acrobat Distiller" printer instance under Windows or the "Create Adobe PDF" desktop printer under MacOS followed by setting the driver's options correctly for paper size, page range, etc., followed by sending the proper commands to the driver to create PostScript.
Contrary to popular belief, PostScript as generated by the Windows and MacOS PostScript drivers is VERY device-dependent. The information in the PPD file associated with a printer driver instance provides critical parameters for generation of PostScript including:
Whether the printer supports color (Acrobat Distiller does)
What PostScript language level is supported (Acrobat Distiller 4.x and Acrobat Distiller 5.x are both PostScript language level 3)
Whether native TrueType support is available (Acrobat supports native TrueType as Type 42 fonts)
Available binary communications (Acrobat Distiller supports pure binary and ASCII, but NOT TCP, TBCP, or PJL)
Resident fonts (Acrobat Distiller doesn't really have resident fonts)
Available paper sizes and custom paper size availability (Acrobat Distiller supports a wide range of predefined sizes and continually variable "custom" sizes up to 200" by 200")
Margins / printable areas (for PDF and the Acrobat Distiller, there are no margins in which imaging is not permitted)
Device resolution (Acrobat Distiller can be set to any value from 72 to 4000 dpi; as a convenience, the Acrobat Distiller PPD provides a series of values for use by the driver. Since there is no inherent "resolution" of a PDF file, this parameter is used only for purposes of allowing PostScript programs that query for such a value to be satisfied and for the driver to be able to communicate this value to the operating system and/or application as required.)
Paper handling (totally irrelevant to Acrobat Distiller if input or output tray selection via "setpagedevice" is found in the PostScript stream, it is ignored by Acrobat Distiller)
Thus, if the wrong printer driver instance is selected (i.e., it isn't associated with the Acrobat Distiller PPD file) or that driver instance is improperly configured, improper PostScript will result and one or more of the symptoms described above can occur. As currently implemented, FrameMaker depending upon version will not necessarily choose the correct printer driver instance and/or correctly parameterize the print job via driver setup options. In fact, FrameMaker 5,5,6 might even try to generate PDF via calling a PCL driver, FAX driver, or even a non-PostScript inkjet printer!
    DON'T USE PDFWRITER
The Acrobat PDFWriter is a relic of older versions of Acrobat. In fact, it is no longer installed by default in the "easy install" or the "typical install" of Acrobat 5. It hasn't really be updated since Acrobat 3 and only supports PDF 1.2. It is a GDI (Windows) / QuickDraw (MacOS) driver that directly generates PDF without any intermediary PostScript. Since it is not a PostScript printer driver, applications cannot pass through EPS graphics and/or PDFMark information (used for a wide variety of purposes by FrameMaker). For EPS graphics, most applications will send the low resolution TIFF (or PICT) EPS header in lieu of the PostScript text, if they send anything at all, to the driver. Forget about links, structure, or any other PDF "goodies." Expect that PDFWriter will fully "bite the dust" in the next major version of Acrobat.
SO HOW DO I GENERATE PDF FILES FROM FRAMEMAKER 6 & EARLIER?
The ONLY method that is really reliable for producing PDF files with FrameMaker 6 and earlier requires the generation of PostScript via a properly set printer driver instance associated with the Acrobat Distiller PPD and distillation of the resultant PostScript by Acrobat Distiller.
Case 1: FrameMaker and the Full Acrobat 4.05 or Acrobat 5.0x Products
PDF file from a "chapter" -- print directly to the Acrobat Distiller printer instance (Windows) or the Create Adobe PDF desktop printer (MacOS) already installed by Acrobat. If you check the "Acrobat data" option, then make sure to UNcheck the "print to file" option that gets set at the same time. As a result, the driver will automatically send the generated PostScript to the Distiller for you and delete the intermediate PostScript when done.
PDF file from a "book" -- print directly to the Acrobat Distiller printer instance with the "print to file" option checked (Windows) or the Virtual Printer desktop printer (MacOS) associated with the Distiller PPD (see details below under Case 2/MacOS). You will need to manually process the resultant PostScript file through the Distiller (or use a "watched folder" arrangement).
In both the above sub-cases, the default driver options generally will be OK, but check on paper size and communication protocol (Use pure binary, not ASCII, for optimal performance AND no CTRL-D characters under Windows. Make sure to set Level 3 only and Binary under MacOS. Font inclusion "All" for Acrobat 4.05 and "None" for Acrobat 5 under MacOS.). With Acrobat 4.05, make sure you preset the Distiller to use the joboptions you want. With Acrobat 5, you can set this on a job-by-job basis via the driver printer setup interface (or print dialog on MacOS).
Case 2: FrameMaker 6 and the Bundled Acrobat 4.05 Distiller
Windows -- Create a new printer driver instance using the latest version of the Adobe Universal PostScript Driver Installer, downloadable from Adobe's web site AND the Acrobat Distiller PPD file (located in the XTRAS subdirectory of the Distiller directory). This driver instance should be set to print to the local port named "FILE:". Name this driver instance as "Acrobat Distiller". The default driver options generally will be OK, but check on paper size and communication protocol (use pure binary, not ASCII, for optimal performance AND no CTRL-D characters). Make sure you preset the Distiller to use the joboptions you want. Print directly to this Acrobat Distiller printer instance. Make sure that the "print to file" option is checked. You will need to manually process the resultant PostScript file through the Distiller (or use a "watched folder" arrangement).
MacOS -- Install the latest version of AdobePS 8.7.x, downloadable from Adobe's web site. In FrameMaker, go to Page Setup and select the "Virtual Printer" and go to the "Virtual Printer" window pane. Select the Acrobat Distiller PPD file (located in the XTRAS subfolder of the Distiller folder). Print directly to the "Virtual Printer" (Make sure to set Level 3 only, Binary, and font inclusion "All".). Make sure you preset the Distiller to use the joboptions you want. You will need to manually process the resultant PostScript file through the Distiller (or use a "watched folder" arrangement).
    Case 3: Acrobat 3
Acrobat 3 is not officially supported for the latest OS versions and I personally would no longer recommend its use for generation of PDF files given that Acrobat 5.0.5 is the current version of Acrobat.
    - Dov

You're asking a lot of ancient Acrobat to work with an Office that never existed when it was made. "Just updated my office suite" is a massive change, and Window 8 didn't exist at that time either...

  • Should I buy this laptop?

So on a mac forum website I got offered a 2.0GHZ white macbook laptop with a new 160 GB HDD running leopard. he thinks he got it in 2007 and is running well. do you think this will keep running well for a while? do you think it will last for years (until I graduate high school and get a new laptop for college) or will it crash or slow down a ton in he next few years? He is offering it for 350 do you think I should take it? or if its not gonna last should i get an ipad 2, cause Im not gonna spend over 600 for a laptop/tablet and it seems like an ipad would run smoothly for 4 years.

You always take a chance when you buy used from non-Apple dealers.  Best way to buy used is to get it refurbished from Apple.   ****If**** it works its, a great deal, you just can't tell.  Life's like that.  Good luck.

  • Why I will never buy another Creative product ever again....

I just replaced my creative sound card with a brand new Asus. So far the Asus works perfectly, sounds great and was super easy to install. The first creative card I bought was deader than roadkill in 3 months. The second Creative card I bought(The one I just replaced) would intermittently stop working either in the middle of doing something like playing a game for no apparent reason or simply not work at all when you boot up the computer. No error messages, no indications of any kind. It would just go silent. I have a feeling that part of the reason this may have been happening is because the shape of the card was very weird and never fit in my case quite right so I had to almost force it to line up with the screw hole so that it wouldn't fall out of the PCI slot. Not the case with my new Asus card. I put it in the slot, everything lined up perfectly and took about 0 seconds to install.
<span style="white-space: pre;">Also, the Creative card was a 5. surround sound card and I bought Creative 5. surround sound speakers to go with it. The logical leap is that the two would work in conjunction with each other. However this was far from the case. I never got all the speakers working at the same time. Ever. Not once. This made 3 creative products in a row that sucked.
<span style="white-space: pre;">One bad product, well maybe somebody had a bad day at the factory. 2 bad products is pushing it. 3 bad products means there is a serious quality control and cheap parts problem in the company. Perhaps this is because I am buying their low end products. Maybe their 200? - 300$ range products are better. But after all this hassle and waste of money I sure as hell am not wanting to find out.
<span style="white-space: pre;">Next on the agenda: replace the crappy Creative speakers with something nicer. Sad really, the Sound Blaster used to be the Industry Standard. Now your cards are junk. After 6 months the metal on the card is literally rusting and corroding away. I have NEVER seen that happen on a computer peripheral before and I have bought a lot video cards, sound cards, etc... Goodbye Creative. That is the last dollar I spend on you.

Which component is broken? If it is only the hard drive it can be replaced, and someone here will be happy to help with that.

  • Virtu MVP and why you should be using it!

    What is it?
    <<Lucid Virtu MVP>>
At Lucid, we believe there shouldn't be a tradeoff between performance and visual quality. We think that when you click the mouse it should interact with the screen at minimum lag or latancy. So we created the ultimate competitive weapon. Virtu MVP, designed over the winning Virtu Green GPU Virtualization software, makes your PC look better, respond faster, process video and media smoother, all within a low power environment.
Designed for next generation AMD processor based platforms, as well as Intel Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge platforms with notebooks, all in one PCs and desktop motherboards flavors.
Virtu MVP has 3 major components:
    1. GPU Virtualization
     - Enabling applications to use best of both worlds between discrete GPU and integrated one, with no limitation where your display is plugged in.
    2. Virtual Vsync
    - A cool technology that allows you to play with your standard in-game vsync turned on for smooth tear-free game play, but without the 60 FPS cap. Yes, you can.
    3. HyperFormance
    - A technology designed to further boost you game responsiveness by removing redundant rendering tasks in the pipeline resulting by higher response performance.
Overall Virtu MVP adds value to your platform and gaming experience :
•Connect your display either to the motherboard (i-mode) or to discrete GPU (d-mode), boosts gaming responsiveness up to 70%
•Increases standard in game Vsync from 60 FPS CAP - up to 120 FPS (and sometime more)
    •Sharpens visual quality without tearing
•Works seamlessly with hundreds of game stations
    How Virtual Vsync Works
In a virtual environment of two asymmetrical GPUs, we keep one GPU in sync and free the other GPU and CPU to run as fast is it wants. Frames are always shown tear free and in sync with display monitor while CPU and stronger GPU can produce images/frame as fast as they possibly can - so your frame is ready faster, and on time for next display refresh cycle.
    How Hyperformance Works
3D games put the greatest demands on both the CPU and GPU. And as the race for higher performance on the PC and now in notebooks never ends, both CPUs and GPUs keep getting more robust. Despite this, display refresh rates have remained fairly flat over the years, 60-75 Hz, except for 3D stereo displays at 120Hz. Lucid takes advantage of this disparity and eliminates redundant rendering tasks and predicts potential synchronization issues in the graphics delivery pipeline and intelligently removes and or replaces them for better game control.
    How to use it?
So long as you have a mother board that supports the use of Virtu MVP and a discrete card, beginning to use Virtu is easy!
1.) Enter bios and enable multi-moniter support, Virtu in D-mode and set the primary graphics controller to PEG.
2.) Install  Lucid MVP from your cd that came with your board or from the drivers page for your board at MSI.
    Updates: Lucid MVP downloads
    3.) Re-boot and your off!
Note: You must originally install Virtu / Virtu MVP from the MSI disk, then you are able to update or you will recieve an error about licensing.

Quote from: xmad on 22-September-12, 02:38:45
Alright, so it is official, the z77-g45's now have Lucid MVP, as this is a software and hardward change, only new boards will be able to use this feature. (The licensing fee is also being added onto the new boards)
Hi, I know this is an old thread, but rather than start a whole new thread, I figure it is cleaner to revive this one.
I purchased a Z77A-G45 recently (2013-02) and just found out about Lucid MVP. I downloaded the installer from Softpedia, it was labeled for the Z77A-G45 Thunderbolt. It installed and even appears to be functioning, however, it is in trial mode.
Am I doing something wrong? If newer Z77A-G45s are licensed, can this not be retroactively applied to older ones? It apparently doesn't need special hardware, since it is running on my board. (Unless I do have the hardware, but Lucid MVP doesn't show up under my board's drivers on MSI's site.
For confirmation for those finding this post on Google looking to see if the Z77A-G45 is compatible (like I did), it does run, but is in trial mode. (BIOS v2.9)
Edit reason: accidently mistyped G45 as 645

  • WHY YOU SHOULD NOT USE SKYPE (and where to file co...

Approximately two weeks ago, my account was blocked for no apparent reason.
I contacted customer support and they didn't know why it was blocked, but told me to go through the account verification process. I asked to speak to someone on the phone to discuss this but was ignored. Then, within 48 hours I suddenly received a NEW email telling me that my account was blocked PERMANENTLY (funnily enough THEY CHARGED ME $25 USD for SKYPE CREDIT before blcoking me!!!). I want to make sure ALL PEOPLE KNOW about the absurd practices of Skype. I am now out $25 USD and permanently locked out my account forever. WHere can we file complaints? Better BUsiness Bureau? I have contacted my rep numerous times on how to overturn this and he just ignores me saying nothign can be done. this is absurd!!
See below from Tyron H (A horrible customer service rep I might add)
    Hello,
Good Day! Unfortunately, we cannot re-activate your account. We take the safety of Skype customers very seriously and need to apply certain restrictions to protect our customers' details. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.
In accordance with paragraph 11.2 of the Skype Terms of Use we have terminated your right to use the Skype software, and have prevented any further access to your Skype account.
This is because you are in breach of paragraph 6.3 (c) of the Terms of Use which prohibits the use of the Skype software to send unsolicited communications. Any Skype Credit that was in your account is non-refundable.

Hello and welcome to the Skype Community.
    To clarify:
The settlement reached in the USA applies to unused Skype Credit being made available to users following a 180 day period of inactivity and is honored by Skype worldwide [except in Japan].
You are referring to a different issue - that of automatically recurring Subscription payments to which you agreed upon signing up.

  • HT203171 THIS ARTICLE IS ONLY HELPFUL IF YOU"D NEVER USED A LAPTOP TRACK PAD IN YOUR LIFE....  What do you do when NONE of the everyday issues (damp, dirty, oily , jeweled hands or track pads) apply???

I have 2 Mac Book Pros that I use simultaneously.  One that I'm using at the moment to type this and another that seems to have a ghost running the trackpad at the moment.  Of done several restarts and shut downs including (shift-'L' button-Option-Command-Power) and (Command-Option-'P' button-'R' button).  Within 5 minutes everything seems to go back to a frenzied curser.  Please HELP!!!

In general theory, one now has the Edit button for their posts, until someone/anyone Replies to it. I've had Edit available for weeks, as opposed to the old forum's ~ 30 mins.
That, however, is in theory. I've posted, and immediately seen something that needed editing, only to find NO Replies, yet the Edit button is no longer available, only seconds later. Still, in that same thread, I'd have the Edit button from older posts, to which there had also been no Replies even after several days/weeks. Found one that had to be over a month old, and Edit was still there.
Do not know the why/how of this behavior. At first, I thought that maybe there WAS a Reply, that "ate" my Edit button, but had not Refreshed on my screen. Refresh still showed no Replies, just no Edit either. In those cases, I just Reply and mention the [Edit].
Also, it seems that the buttons get very scrambled at times, and Refresh does not always clear that up. I end up clicking where I "think" the right button should be and hope for the best. Seems that when the buttons do bunch up they can appear at random around the page, often three atop one another, and maybe one way the heck out in left-field.
While I'm on a role, it would be nice to be able to switch between Flattened and Threaded Views on the fly. Each has a use, and having to go to Options and then come back down to the thread is a very slow process. Jive is probably incapable of this, but I can dream.

  • Buongiorno Pests- How to get your money back and why you should

Buogiorno, make millions from thousands of us who unknowingly are subscribed to services which we had no idea about. It is easy to get a refund and the service stopped because they are very aware that what they are doing is wrong, but they rely on the hundred and thousands of us who dont check our bills because lets face it a mere £1.00 here and there will not alert you. The reason I was alerted was because I have 4 children all who have Iphones and they are all on my 1 account and I pay a nominal amount on a contract, which all of a sudden started to go over by £11 one month and now the 4th month it has gone over by £50.00 all because of Buogiorno, none  of my teenagers knowingly subscribed to anything I contacted Tmobile who immediately blocked the intrusive company from any future attempts at taking money, but they could do nothing to stop them from taking money for the things we had subscribed to albeit without our knowledge. Tmobile sent me the following information 0207 6499customercareuk@buongiorno  I called them on a Sunday, got a response but had to wait patiiently on the phone going through all the options until I got to a human being. I was direct, saying you have essentially stolen money from my account and I want my money back for every single phone as we had not subscribed to any such service. The lady at the end of the line, was very nice very accomodating and effortlesly proceeeded to de-subscribed me, and even asked, "Do you want a refund for this account" so make sure you make it clear you want a refund because otherwise they will simply stop future payments coming out. it is clear that customer services are very very well trained in handling what they know is happening every day, complaints and refunds, and they happily oblige, lets face it the number of us asking for our money back is few in comparison to the hundred and thousands who dont even know whats going on. This is a multi million dollar law suit waiting to happen, any one out there with the time and money to take this giant fraudster on will make a difference.- These fraudsters are pretty cleaver a couple of pounds from hundreds and thousands of people accross the world will make anyone a multi millionaire if not billionaire. They still make you go through hoops to get your money back- sending you an email, then you have to apply for your refund quoting the refence number they give you and it can take up to 7 days and maybe 48 hours to get the email from them, basically they hope you dont bother feeling happy that they agreed to refund you. Do note that the advisor's are so well trained that they will not argue with you, will not agree or disagree to anything you say, simply give you a reference number for the call  and a reference number for the refund, thanking you all the way. Thousands of us have made millions and the same thousands of us can BREAK THEM-PLEASE GO AND GET YOUR MONEY BACK TODAY!! and  lets show them that covert fraudulent business will not get the better of us all the best I hope it helps and dont take no for an answer!!

After having been ripped off since March 2014 to the tune of 82p plus VAT per week, I decided to find out a little more about this Company and I called them directly....much to their surprise..!  Save yourself the bother of using the Customer Care number with it's barrage of automated questions and call the Buongourino offices in Shoreditch directly. They are based at 57-63 SCRUTTON STREET, LONDON , EC2A 4PF.  Call them directly on 0207 613 6000 and you will be expressed through to Customer Services  person and offered a refund via PayPal without any questions.  ******************** C A L L   O N   T H I S   N U M B E R   TO   G E T   S  T  R  A  I  G  H  T    T  H  R  O  U  G  H   ************************** ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••  0 2 0 7  6 1 3  6 0 0 0  •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••              (do not bother with the official Customer Services no. 0207 649 9636 - this is possibly a costly diverted internet number, not local) ***********************************************************************************************************************************************************A rather alarmed and flustered  Buongiorno receptionist initially denied knowing anything about this iFortuneCookie phone app scam , but coudn't hide it and then very swiftly put me through directly to an actual customer services agent who had a well rehearsed and scripted reply for everything.I suggested that I was about to issue Boungiorno UK Ltd with a claim for my money back through the small claims court to which she explained that their process is fully legal. Sadly, it probably is, but is morally twisted in my opinion. However, she struggled to talk me through the process of how I might have unwittingly signed up, but she let slip at one point that the 'subscribe' button is actually a 'play now' button. This practice is totally immoral, deceptive and it is hard to believe that this is legal. I asked for the name and addresss of their CEO  or Managing Director as I would like to send him/her a personal letter or maybe even arrange a face to face conversation to explain to me how they operate, but she refused to give out this information.I have yet to see if the refund happens..!If I do not receive a refund soon, I will be taking a visit to their offices, at 57 Scrutton Street to politely collect my refund in person.. I will keep you posted.. FYI:  Companies House information:  Name & Registered Office:

  • Why You Should Set Photoshop to Open Your JPGs in Adobe Camera RAW | Creative Suite Podcast: Photographers | Adobe TV

In this episode of the Adobe Creative Suite Podcast Terry White shows the advantages of setting Photoshop to open your JPGs in Camera RAW by Default.
    http://adobe.ly/S78sgj

Thanks Terry! I’ve been using this for a few years and settled on the somewhat more flexible approach… As you mentioned, Bridge offers an explicit command to open a JPEG or TIFF in Camera Raw, which I do, but then with a press of Shift I can open that JPEG as a smart object and revisit CR controls for further adjustment at any time later in the process.

  • Is imovie not for free i dont get why you need to buy it??

I really want this app and i dont like to spend money on apps can you just let it be free??

You get the app for free if you have purchased a new device since September. Purchase a device, activate it, then use the same ID you used to activate it to download the app and it's free.
For the rest of the world, it's not free.

  • Why you should move to 2.0.2

This article appeared today explaining what was fixed in 2.0.2 and how it was a combination ATT network and iPhone issue that is hurting 3G performance. I already had good 3G speeds, but I am seeing an increase in battery life.
My current reading shows 2 hours of usage and 50 hours of standby.
    http://www.dailytech.com/ReportATT+Source+Explains+Exact+Technical+Details+of+iPhone+3GProbems/article12797.htm
For those that don't want to read the whole article, the quick scoop is that iPhone 3G was asking for to much power from the tower - the towers would run out of juice so no new 3G connections, they would also throttle band width and drop calls. Some good details in the article and this is why ATT is texting everyone to upgrade....

This entire ordeal would've gone a LOT smoother had Apple simply stated "Improved radio power control algorithm" instead of the usual "bug fixes."
I guaranteee if they said that in the first place AT&T wouldn't have to txt all iphone users and beg everyone to update to 2.0.2
The issue now for those NOT having reception issues like myself is.... I can play nice and update to 2.0.2 but run the risk of my reception getting WORSE because of all the other reluctant users out there.... or just wait for perhaps another update soon while running around sucking up all the extra power from cell towers and try not to feel bad about it. Hmmmmmmmm, nice predicament.
