Wi-fi not working (iMac 2007)

Hi,
since upgrading to Mountain Lion my iMac's Wi-fi connection has gradually stopped working. Within a couple of days of installation (after complete wipe of HD), I started experiencing irregular drop-outs of my Wi-fi, straight after wake. Meaning: I would wake my iMac after sleep and it would not find any networks in the list, even though it claimed to be searching. Before sleep, everything was fine. This would usually be solved by going "Shut off wi-fi" from the list, counting to ten and then restarting it again. But things eventually got worse; the problem started appearing more frequently and was harder to get rid of. Finally, now, the iMac can't find any networks at all. My iPhone and my MacBook are all on the same network as the iMac should have been connected to, so everything is fine and unaltered in the exterior set-up.
Seems something must have been internally messed-up with my Airport card on cause of the upgrade? Should I update my firmware? If so, how do I go about doing that?
(Note: Atm, I'm online via my iPhone USB-internet sharing, which is connected to the local Wi-fi. This should imply that the iMac's network card itself is intact, no?)
Thankfully,
S.

I have now reformated my hard drive, but the problem persists. I'm hooked up via TP-cable atm. Is there any way of running a hardware check to see if the Wifi-antenna might be physically malfunctioning? Would this be an expensive repair?
Thanks,
S.

  • Target Display Mode not working iMac 27(2012) Bootcamp to iMac 27(2013)

    Hi All,
I recently purchased an iMac 27" 2013 which replaced my iMac 27" 2010.
    ===============
    PREVIOUS SETUP
    ===============
    (1) iMac 27" 2012 - Running Windows 8.1
    (2) iMac 27" 2010 - Running OS X Mavericks
    (1)+(2) were connected with a Mini-Display-Port cable.
    (1) was using (2) as external display while (2) was set to Target Display Mode using CMD+F2
    ==============
    CURRENT SETUP
    ==============
    (1) iMac 27" 2013 - Running Windows 8.1
    (2) iMac 27" 2012 - Running OS X Mavericks
(1)+(2) are connected with Thunderbolt cable.
    (1) can't use (2) as external display anymore becuase CMD+F2 has no effect anymore on (2) in this scenario.
If (1) and (2) are both running OS X all works as expected.
I am aware about the support hint from Apple where they state TDM is not working under Bootcamp.
And I agree, while booted into Windows Bootcamp this machine can't serve as external display. Makes sense because TDM is baked into OS X display drivers.
Anyone had the same experience and came to a soltuion?
    Thanks,
    Martin

"Apple has no plans to implement a client driver for Windows since there is no Thunderbolt SW stack available for Windows like there is for Display Port."
That is a little bit funny since Gigabyte and other big companies have said that 2014 is the year that they are going to implement Thunderbolt in many motherboards.
"GIGABYTE 7 series motherboards are the very first to offer fully certified dual onboard Thunderbolt™ ports. Capable of connecting up to 12 devices plus 3 digital displays simultaneously with breathtaking data transfer speeds that can transfer 1TB of data in only five minutes, GIGABYTE Thunderbolt™ motherboards offer the fastest connection interface on the desktop PC."
Have you asked Apple about that? I dont understand why Apple is crippling Thunderbolt on their devices...

  • Hyperlinks within .pdf documents not working IMac Safari

I am working with a website that displays several .pdf documents. The documents contain hyperlinks to urls. Everything works fine in other browsers, but in Safari, these hyperlinks do not work. The cursor does not change when it enters the hyperlink space, and nothing happens if the link is clicked. I am using an IMac running OS 10.6. 8 and Safari 5.1.10. I have tried both the native (Preview) option and a plug-in. Neither makes any difference. Can anyone suggest a fix other than abandoning Safari?

I am a new user to OnLINE Adobe. My hyperlinks from Word

  • Free/Busy not working Exchange 2007 and 2013 co-existence

    Hi,
I'm migrating our Exchange 2007 environment to Exchange 2013. Now I am in a co-existence environment where all the mailboxes except some test-users resides on Exchange 2007. Between Users on the same Exchange MBX Server athe FREE/BUSY Information sharing
works correctly, but between Exchange 2007 and 2013 it's not working.
I verified my settings and also the EWS virtual directory on 2007 CAS Servers using Get-WebServicesVirtualDirectory.
The internal and the external URLs are set to https://legacy.mydomain.com/....
    What am I missing?
    Thanks & Kind Regards,
    Jürgen

    Hi,
According to your description, I understand that the free/busy information between Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2013 is not available for your coexistence environment. To narrow down the issue, please check the following points:
    1. Does the issue happen to all users or specific users?
    2. Although a user on Exchange 2013 can't get free/busy information from a user on Exchange 2007, please confirm whether Exchange 2007 user can get free/busy information from Exchange 2013 users.
    3. Close Outlook and only access user mailbox from OWA to check whether the issue persists. For Outlook client,
    create a new Outlook profile
    to have a try.
    4. Please make sure the virtual directories settings are configured correctly in both Exchange 2013 and Exchange 2007.

    5. Restart IIS service in Exchange server by running iisreset /noforce from a command prompt window.
If possible, please run Test E-mail AutoConfiguration in Outlook to check whether the autodiscover service can get correct Availability service URL in the results. If there is any event logs, please collect some for further analysis.

  • ISight not working iMac G5

I have a G5 iMac 17 inch and iSight is not working. The green light works. Nothing shows in the system profiler. It worked about a week ago. I have tried the iSight troubleshooter and re-set the pram and so on. Anything else?

If your iSight still does not show as a USB device in System Profiler after you have tried all relevant suggestions from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090, contact your Apple Service Technician for help.

  • Headphone jack not working iMac 10.5.8

While playing to the headphones the plug was pulled out of the headphone jack.
Sound plays through the external speakers but when the headphones are plugged in they are not recognized.
Tried a different pair of headphones and they did not work.
Both sets of headphones do work on another computer.
Reset the PRAM but still no recognition of headphones.
Plugged headphones in and opened the sound preferences.
The only choice is internal speakers and there is not a place to change the setting to audio output.
Restarted the machine with the headphones plugged in but still no recognition.
Any other ideas before I decide it's just a bad jack?

Sounds like the headphone port is damaged. Some USB audio solutions exist for the Mac.  You may want to research those over trying to fix the soundboard.

  • Hotkeys and OSD not working T60 2007

I've rebuilt my T60 after a hard disk failure. Running Windows XP Professional. All drivers have been updated from Lenovo's support site.
The OSD does not show volume changes nor the screen brightness although the volume controls work, the screen brightness can be changed using the Fn Home and End keys. The Fn keys do not work apart from Fn F4 sleep, Fn F9 docking release and Fn F12 Hibernate.
I've searched the knowledgebase and followed some of the suggestions, including editing the registry. I'm very frustrated after spending all morning and a couple of hours this afternoon.  Has a recent solution been found to this problem or is there a way I can download an earlier version of the drivers for the Hotkeys and OSD that will work with my Thinkpad?

    here download this http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/8jvu38ww.exe
    that driver should fix it

  • PDF maker not working - Office 2007

I have acrobat standard 8.1 with office 2007.  When I try to right click an office document and choose create PDF it crashes.  I can perform this task with a notepad document, so it must be something to do with office.  I have another PC same spec, same software and it is working ok.
I have tried a repair on both office and acrobat, and uninstalling and reinstalling the software.  checking that the add in is enabled in office.....kinda stuck what to try next.  The file print and choosing the pdf printer is working.  Any ideas ?

All I can tell you with AA8 is that if it prints to the Adobe PDF printer, then there is an issue with the plug-in macro for PDF Maker. Through AA8, PDF Maker was simply a preprocessor for the Adobe PDF printer. All I can suggest is to go through and check the various settings in PDF Maker. You might log the settings you have and then turn basically everything off in PDF Maker to give as simple a process as possible and see if it works. If so, then add things one at a time. In fact, you might first try to turn off tags or check the option for a small file (you did not indicate file size). Tags and some of the other items bloat the PDF a fair amount and require a lot of space in the TEMP folder that may be too full (this folder is limited in size and is not an issue of the size of your harddrive).

  • Crossfeed playback will not work (iMac 10.5.8 iTunes 10.6.3)

I have the crossfade in my iTunes options and have used various settings to see if they would work, restarting iTunes to see if that would help update the settings. The crossfade option was still checked although not functional.  I have also made an album a "gapless" album to see if that would help matters to no avail.  I have tried it on sequential songs, random songs, etc.   Nothing worked-I don't have iCloud

    Yep
OS X 10.4/10.5 need to upgrade, 10.6.8 ok still
1: Backup your files to a external drive also Carbon Copy Cloner it to another blank external powered drive
    http://www.bombich.com/download.html
The clone is so you have a copy of EVERYTHING and can even hold the option/alt key down (wired keyboard) to boot from in case of trouble or if you forget something or a problem occurs with the 10.6 upgrade.
2: I reccommend (after you have a copy of your users personal files (only) on a external drive and all disconnected, is to delete those files from your internal drive, this way when you upgrade to 10.6 from the disk you get from Apple, it's faster on the hard drive. Then Software update fully, then return the users files last.
3: If you have problems and need to wipe and install 10.6 (or for the best performance)
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
    Even extra performance
    For Snow Leopard Speed Freaks
4: Upgrade Carbon Copy Cloner to the 10.6 version and use that to create a new clone drive. This way you can restore your system easily or boot from it in case of a hard drive problem.
I don't receommned you go to 10.7 or 10.8 on that machine, it's too dated and will cost you in all new apps, RAM and slowdowns etc.,
Save your money for a new machine on 10.8 or whatever is coming up next.

  • Bluetooth not working iMac and Samsung phone

I tried connecting my wife's samsung phone with iMac throught bluetooth.
They are paired, but when I tried to use the function "browse device" or something like that on iMac so that I can transfer files from Samsung phone to iMac, the connection keep dropping after 1 second.
When I tried going to the phone and choose a file to send over to iMac, it works. After sending the file, the connection "disconnect" again.
    How to solve this problem?
    Thanks.

hi mate, sorry to hear of your problems. in this case, you will need to liaise with Nokia in your country directly regarding the warranty and issues you have been having with your local Nokia Care outlet.

  • Bluetooth connection on keyboard not working iMac/macbook

    Hi
I've just bought an iMac and have it connected to my macbook air using a thunderbolt connection.  Once connected I use cmd f2 to change the iMac screen to the screen on my macbook air.  Using the bluetooth settings on the MBA i can connect the wireless mouse (previously connected to the imac) and tried the same for the keyboard.  Although I managed to get it to pair yesterday I can't seem to get it to do it again today (guess yesterday was a fluke).
It will connect when the Imac is off or when the keyboard is disconnected on the imac - problem being that I need the keyboard to change the screen over to the MBA.
Any thoughts / something I'm missing?
ps I've got OSX 10.8.3 on imac and 10.7.5 on MAB if it matters - didn't yesterday

    hi all
by a stroke of luck i worked it out - turns out you have to switch the keyboard off, then when switching it on you have to keep your finger on the power button - the green light will flash until the connection is made.

  • Shared mailbox not working on 2007

    Hello,
i'm having a problem generating a shared mailbox and making it work, here's the BG info:
Created a universal security group called "info access" with two users which need MB access
we have domain.local internal and domain.com external
i created the mailbox with the cmdlets:
    New-Mailbox -Name:'Info customer' -OrganizationalUnit:'domain.local/main' -Database:'Mailbox Database' -UserPrincipalName:'[email protected]' -Shared
    Add-MailboxPermission info -User:'info access' -AccessRights:FullAccess
    Add-ADPermission info -User:'info access' -ExtendedRights:Send-As -AccessRights:ReadProperty, WriteProperty -Properties:'Personal Information'
    Set-Mailbox -Identity info -GrantSendOnBehalfTo:'info access'
Everything completed ok, i see the hsared mailbox in the EMC, i see it can receive mails, but when i go to add the mailbox to one of those users outlook it gives error "outlook cannot open mailbox, the user cannot access the location", OWa also
fails but with a hard crash message with mapiexceptionlogonfailed
what is going on?, i double checked on the EMC and i see the permissions granted to the group, do i need to apply permissions to each user?

    Hi Eliminateur,
    Thank you for your question.
The name of shared mailbox is “info customer”, so we could run the following command to grant full access to “info customer” :
    Add-MailboxPermission –Identity 'Info customer' -User:'info access' -AccessRights:FullAccess
    Add-ADPermission –Identity 'Info customer' -User:'info access' -ExtendedRights:Send-As -AccessRights:ReadProperty, WriteProperty -Properties:'Personal Information'
Set-Mailbox –Identity 'Info customer' -GrantSendOnBehalfTo:'info access'
Then we could check if we could open shared mailbox which name is “Info customer”.
If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.
    Best Regard,
    Jim

  • Space bar not working imac

Suddenly for no reason the backspace, spacebar and caps lock are no longer working on my wireless keyboard.
I've seen loads of posts with the same problem but wondered if its a software issue of if the keyboard has just died?  I've tried it with other user accounts and repared the keyboard but no joy.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Try another keyboard.
Additionaly most any generic Logitech or Windows USB keyboard will work with Mac's.

  • HT3669 HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Version 3.2.1 does not work on iMac 20-inch, Mid 2007. Only recognizes scanner not USB printer.

HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Version 3.2.1 does not work on iMac 20-inch, Mid 2007. Only recognizes scanner not USB printer.
I would like to print via the USB connection instead of wireless (the wireless does work, and the scanner works via USB).
I tried connecting the printer directly (via USB) to my MacBook Pro laptop and it worked just fine.
How can I make this printer work on my iMac?
I spent 4 hours on the phone with HP and we did every combination of installation of drivers ad nausum and their bottom line is that it is a Mac problem.
Any help would be appreciated. Will be sending this printer back to Amazon if I can't make it work on the USB.
I am open to questions or suggestions
    Thanks,
    Chet

After 4 hours on the phone with HP and another hour with Apple (Mavericks support) no real solution other than check everything (removed everything from Login Items, removed all HP software anywhere in the system reboot, reinstall printer) then when nothing worked for the 4500, did an OS Reinstall (boot with CMD+R).
The Mavericks support group did open an incident (# 542875311) and I will update it when I figure out how to find it on the system.
My feel is that the base problem is that somewhere between the HP-Inkjet-SW-OSX-Mavericks_v12.34.49-2 package and the Apple HP Printer software in the Library (version 2.16.1) the app for printing via the USP Port just does not get installed for the mid 2007 20 inch iMac. The scanner is recognized on the USB Port and the Printer works fine on Wi-Fi. I have too many devices to burden my home network with anothe device. Also, every time I put any HP Printer on Wi-Fi, my router (Netgear N600 WNDR3400 running 12 to 20 devices depending on who is home) gets wonky (but that's anothe story...).
Additionally, when I attach the HP Envy 4500 to my MacBook Pro (2010) it works perfect - print and scan via the USB prot and both functions show in the System Preferences - Printers and Scanners just as expected and just as the 3050 does.

I recently attempted to connect my external video with no success. Is there a reason my ext video connection will not work with Mtn Lion? What can I do to get it to work? Thanks

Repeat of my above post first.
My 24" 2008 iMac has an audio in and an audio out port. If you have the same setup, have you tried using the audio in port? Mine has a speaker symbol for audio in.
