Widget Creation

Hey,
Sorry i put this here but i didn't know where else to put it.
In the older version of Xcode there was an option to create a Widget now there isn't where did that go?
(I'm running 3.1 (beta))

I'll try it when I get home (on iPhone) but that sounds right thanks!!!!!

  • Widget creation on Flex builder and related problems - need some help

    Hi all.
    I am trying to create a widget like application and it seems
    I have made a mistake. As you know, desktop widgets are like small
    stickers, they do not appear on taskbar and can be hidden or
    docked.
    The problem is that I created an AIR application using Flex
    Builder 3 Beta and now I cannot find how to make that application
    behave like custom-shaped window. My app appears on Windows taskbar
    and I don't want it. When I drag the window (which is a custom
    shape) it shows that nasty dragging rectangle around it.
    As far as I found out (and tried it) I need to use cod like:
    var initOptions:NativeWindowInitOptions = new
    NativeWindowInitOptions();
    initOptions.systemChrome = NativeWindowSystemChrome.NONE;
    initOptions.type = NativeWindowType.UTILITY;
    to hide my window from the taskbar. But it seems I cannot use
    such a code for class mx:Application. Or can I (would be grateful
    for some idea)?
    The main question is:
    if I want to migrate my app to that NativeWindow based
    solution - then NativeWindow is not an mx class and I cannot find
    how I will use Flex Builder Design mode to arrange my GUI elements.
    Is it somehow possible to wrap my mx:Application inside
    NativeWindow and do not have to migrate the design from mxml files
    to pure ActionScript?
    The second issue - if I want to use some kind of subforms -
    like widget settings window - when I move that window with the
    mouse, it is being clipped to the region of my Application. Does
    that again mean that I need to use NativeWindow for creating such a
    "Widget settings" dialog window?
    Thanks for any ideas (and especially for useful links and
    examples :-) )

  • Widget creation: html5 & swf

    I'm trying to figure out how to create custom Captivate 6 widgets that will publish to html5 and swf.  I figured I'd start by pulling apart the A3C widget that's in the Captivate 6 gallery.  I rename the file to A3C.zip.  Unzip it using my Mac's archive utility then zip it back up again.  Rename the file back to A3C.wdgt and try to import it to Captivate.  I then get the error "The description.xml file is missing from the widget".  When I check the folder that was zipped up, the file is definitely there.  This seems to have something to do with the format for the zip file.  What zip utility should we be using to create these widgets?
    If anyone can provide a pointer to documentation for creating custom widgets in html5 & swf beyond that provided in Captivate Help, I'd appreciate it!
    Paul

    I've been successful so far with two approaches.  Where an Adobe-supplied widget almost works (everyone I've tried has bugs and/or missing critical functionality for html5 output), I just edit it as needed. The tricky part is that Captivate tries very hard to overwrite any changes you make in the Gallery with versions that it may be pulling off the web.  In fact, I've caught it replacing its own widgets with buggy old versions whenever you load your project.
    What I do is give my updated widget a new name and then use Insert Widget, rather than loading it from the Interactions window.  The only annoying problem left is that I can't figure out how to get Captivate to update my widget in place.  When I make changes, I'm forced to delete all uses of the old version and freshly insert the new version, restoring by hand all variables changed from the defaults.
    My other approach, where I'm creating something entirely new, is to insert it as a web object.  Then I've used variables and events for communication between Captivate and my widget, which can lead to timing problems if you're not careful.  Also, I the assets for this "widget" don't get automatically moved to the right places when you publish the project as they do for real widgets, but there are workarounds.
    By the way, if your code is going to be html5-only, you can shortcut the Common Javascript calls and just access your Captivate variable directly (in the Captivate top window).

  • IBooks Widget creation failures

    Hi,
    I am experiencing errors and failures when exporting to iBooks WDGT files from Edge Animate 2014.1.1
    Sometimes the exported Widget is just OK, some other times, with no apparent reason, the .wdgt file lacks of the needed Info.plist document inside. It's just not there.
    As a consequence iBooks Author rejects to insert the Widget as it shows an error of "A main HTML is not defined". I tried to created artificially this Info.plist from a working existing one and include into the Widget file with correct parameters, with no luck.
    Someone else experimenting this erratic behavior when creating WDGT files from Animate?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    Thank you for sharing the result for others.

  • Widget creation in Captivate 4 (combobox)

    Just download the trial version in hope of augmenting our screen designs prior to build the application. Currently I am using the ComboBox widget to simulate dropdown menus, but for longer menus the widget gets distorted. My thought was to create a new widget in Flash by using using the ComboBox component in flash. I used the documentation and google searches online to create the widget to import, but I get a not a valid widget response. Any clear documentation to build a widget or point me to a combobox widget that does not distort will increasing the width would be appreciated.

    Hi,
    I am not sure if you could increase the width of the combobox as such in AS 2.0 but if you want to increase the width of the dropdown width you could do so using this code:
    CB.dropdownWidth= 150;
    Thanks

  • Widget Creation Software

    Does anyone know of a software that easily lets you create widgets? I know Mac OS X Leopard will have this built in, but is there anything similar to that for now.

    Hello Stephen, welcome to Apple Discussions.
    Yes, there are two shareware products available for creating widgets for Tiger:
    1) Widgetarium is a sophisticated development environment that is patterned after XCode. It has a bit of a learning curve, but it can be used to create just about any type of widget.
    2) Widget Code is a far simpler product, that helps you manage the files necessary to create widget and includes a very nice set of widget templates that you can modify.

  • Why do I get a white screen in a HTML widget once it has loaded?

    I have created some HTML which works fine in Safari but as soon as I make it a widget it loads fine with the Default image on screen and then it just goes white with nothing more than a x in the top left corner. Any ideas what I a might be doing wrong. I have an info.plist directing to the html, a Default.png which works as it appears as loading but the page just will not display.
    Any ideas very welcome.
    THanks

    Without seeing exactly what you have, troubleshooting is difficult.
    You could try here iBooks Author: About HTML widget creation for more guidance. I became unstuck once when I made some HTML in Dreamweaver, but forgot to set the Doctype as the HTML5 one.

  • Is there any documentation on widget events in iBooks?

    I've seen very little detail on how to use edge published widgets in iBooks. The widget creation process is straightforward, but using them in an iBook is problematic. I have been testing the following work-flow:
    Export from Edge Animate to Widget
    Use iBooks Author to import the Widget
    Copy the book to an iPad via iTunes and test
    I've been using widgets created from the edge lessons to test this workflow. So far I've discovered:
    Widgets work more reliably if copied to the iPad though iTunes rather than by previewing them in iBooks Author.
    It's important to supply a poster image of the same size as the widget stage as this appears to determine the size the widget will be displayed.
    It's important to add touch events explicitly rather than click events.
    Problems remain however which I feel could be solved by creating javascript which responds to whatever events iBooks generates when opening and closing widgets. I can find no Edge documentation on this. Widgets published by the above simple workflow may work briefly, but stop working after a few pages are turned. Once widgets stop working - that's it. The only way to recover is to close the iBooks app and reopen it.
    Maybe this is a question for Apple, but I feel some pointers in the Edge documentation might help here.
    I have for example found this thread that talks about special widget opening events: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3696472?start=0&tstart=0
    There are some useful Apple docs here with sections on widget events.
    http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/AppleApplications/Conceptual/Dashboa rd_ProgTopics/Introduction/Introduction.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40003042-SW1
    All good stuff, but it raises other questions like how to use some of the Apple provided widget libraries in an Edge widget? What code should be inserted to prevent the widget freezes that I see? Maybe a better workflow would be to develop in Dashcode, and add Edge Animations to the html of a DashCode maintained widget?
    Mike

    I don't know of any documentation off hand... but what are you trying to do? I haven't needed to to make a connection using the DriverClass....
    If you aren't using dynamicSQL... you can just catalog the database, and make direct sql calls (not recommended)... but if you catalog it, then just an INSERT command works... or UPDATE... etc
    logMessage "Starting insert."
    INSERT INTO MYTABLE(id, name) VALUES ("2", "kevin");
    logMessage "Finished insert."Check out the studio help under SQL Keywords for more info on that...

  • Widget, Drag and Drop from palette not working.

    Please suggest.
    The configurations are.
    Eclipse - 3.4.2 ganymede

  • Support boards for developing dashboard widgets?  any response, please??

    i don't mean to be a noodge, but 4 days ago i posted a simple request asking if i could get support here for some questions i had as regards some snags i ran into making dashboard widgets. while other people's questions about ruby/rails, c and objective c and even powerpoint (shouldn't that be in a microsquish support forum??) have been responded to.
    all i want to know is, can anyone help me here or at least point me to other support boards that offer help for those developing dashboard widgets? is that too much to ask?
    my original message i posted 4 days ago is below. i would appreciate response from anyone, please. i can't believe i'm the only person out here seeking support for my *.html, *.css and javascript files for dashboard widgets.
    hi,
    i'm trying my hand at the most rudimentary of developing for mac os x - developing a dashboard widget, using html, css & javascript.
    i'm trying to make a simple widget that uses the real audio plug-in in the system (if you downloaded real player) to play a local portland, oregon fm classical radio station, kbps-fm 89.9 (www.allclassical.org).
    i'm running into some snags both in making the "i" info button flip the thing around (it was working before, but since i added in the code that makes the real player plug in work, no matter where i place the position of the "i" flipper, it doesn't show up), and in the graphics i'm trying to create for the widget.
    should i seek help here? are there better boards/forums for mac os x dashboard widget creation i can go to, and if so, can anyone direct me there? i know about adc, and am a (free) member, but they don't have discussion boards there and i don't want to pay oodles in tech support just to get some basic javascript and css questions handled.
    if anyone could please direct me to where i can ask these questions or help me out, please let me know. thanx.

    You shouldn't take the lack of response as a personal insult The nature of these forums (fora?) is that people respond to those messages where they can help and don't respond when they can't help. FWIW I've got two unresolved questions dating back to Mar 17th!
    In my opinion, the Developer forums would be absolutely ideal and on-topic places to discuss Widget development..... but it looks like very few experienced Widget developers hang out here, so any questions would most likely go unanswered. My own skill area in limited to Java so I can't help out with widgets. No doubt the other forum regulars are in a similar position.

  • Dynamic widget

    I'm having a small issue with the new dynamic widget in 3D.  I have installed the beta on a desktop and on a laptop.  On the desktop, the cursor that's used to replace a lot of the old repousse' functions loads fine, but on my laptop, it does not load its graphic.  All the functions seem to be there.  If I mouse over, the tooltip changes from bend, twist, taper, extrude etc, and I am able to effect those changes, but the widget doesn't change to the new style.  It's just a bigger version of the standard 3 axis widget.  Basically, everything is "working", but there's no visual feedback from the widget.  I just have to wait for the appropriate tooltip to load before I know which function I am about to effect.
    Thoughts?

  • Weather widget moon phase incorrect

    This seems to be a problem due to the shift for the weather widget from Accuweather to Weather.com and Yahoo. There was never an answer posted back when this happened in Snow Leopard here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2166452?start=0&tstart=0
    Anyone have a fix for this?? Having the wrong moon phase is killing me! Seriously, it was beautiful before, when it was connected to accuweather. Why did you have to switch it Apple??
    Thanks for any responses!

    Widget use/embedding in your iBooks Author book does not require a Developer Account.
    See iBooks Author: About HTML widget creation if you haven't already for tips on usage, etc.
