Widget within widget

Hi,
Is it possible to include a widget within another widget ?
iAd does let you import existing widget into the Assets list, but I cannot find a way to add them to a page.
Can someone help ?

No, but you can copy the pages from one widget project into your working project, giving you the equivalent functionality.

Help with Spry Rating Widget within a Spry Repeating Region

This is a long question, but it seems to me if answered somewhere it could help alot of people in the spry community creating comment boards as it uses three important spry widgets: rating, repeating, and tabbed panels. I am trying to use spry rating widget within a spry repeating region within a spry tabbed panel with xml. I was trying to go with the pulse light script (http://forums.adobe.com/message/3831721#3831721) but Gramps told me about the spry rating widget. But I have ran into a couple more problems. First, I couldnt find that much information on the forums or online about how to do the php page with the spry rating widget. None of these have any information on how to do it:

But its not perfect. It has the same problem that I ran into with Pulse light, that you had to use php echo within the spry repeating region to set the initial value from the server:

These all return the correct xml in the correct order.And they return the average rating of each blurt which I can send to my page with xml.
My first question is that I dont know how to configure the query on my fourth panel Empathized & Advised the same way because it already has a Group By for the Comment Id.

Ok, it registers the right vote in the database with the right blurt id each time. But I am having two problems so far:
One, even though {pv1::average_r} returns the correct average through xml, it doesn't show the initial rating value for each of the repeating blurts. It seems to show the first one correct, and then just repeat that same value to the other ones that follow. I just dont understand since it can get the correct server value right after you vote (afterRating:'serverValue), that I can't manipulate spryrating.js in some way that I could just replace 'ratingValue' in ratingValueElement:'ratingValue' with something to give me the initial server value.
Two: Is even more mysterious to me, if you play around with voting on the site, sometimes you are unable to vote on different blurts. Its weird. It seems like that the javascript is completely off just on those blurts. And sometimes its a whole row, sometimes none. But so far its never a problem on the first tabbed panel (Recent), only on the other three. As far as I know, the coding is exactly the same in each tab's repeating region except for the different xml input.
And, now on the live server, sometimes the pics of tears used to voting dont show up until you click.
Any help on those three questions (how to query the fourth panel, how to show the initial server value, and the glitches with voting) would be greatly appreciated!! I looked pretty hard on adobe forums and other sites, and didnt see much on how to really use the spry rating widget with php and xml.

Ok, the first query on the Recent tab doesnt work for me because it wont show unless its already voted, and since these are supposed to be new blurts, that kind of breaks the whole site:

How do I navigate from a hyperlink on one page to an anchor within the tab widget?

Hi guys can you please assist me with that issue I am describing in the question: How do I navigate from a hyperlink on one page to an anchor within the tab widget? I assume that it is not working because the tab widget is truly just on one page and anchors work within a page but not a specific tab. Is there a way around that?

an interesting question. Anchors work across pages (global) without any problem. Do they work within tabs or any other widgets I haven't tried, but it looks like you have and without success. I can see the temptation for doing this, but if you think about it why would you? Set the anchor on the page next to the tab(s) and hey presto the user needs only click the tab to which the hperlink refers, nothing could be more convenient! Of course, if the user cannot relate the tab to the hyperlink there's a problem. Generally solved by titling (like if the hyperlink is cats, the tab should preferably read cats and not dogs)! It's the only work around i can think of. Hope it helps.

Is it possible to force links inside a custom widget to open in Safari instead of within the widget?

I'm just starting to get into working with iBooks Author, so apologies in advance if this is a FAQ. I've search the forum and the web but haven't been able to find an answer.
I'm trying to link out to an external resource from within a custom widget I've created.
Instead of opening in Safari, the link is opening within the widget overlay. There are no browser controls, the content doesn't scroll and there's no way to get back to the widget's original content without closing and reopening the book. Closing and reopening the widget doesn't reset the widget state.
I can work around this if I have to, but I'm hoping someone here has a solution.

I'm looking for an answer to this too. I found that you can do this in a normal Dashboard widget with widget.openURL("...") but for whatever reason the openURL method isn't available in iBooks. Still looking for a solution...

How to change the answer text within the review widget of iBooks Author?

I want to change the answer text which appears after one has finished a test within the review widget of iBooks Author, but I can't figuere out how to do that.
I also want to sum up the result of a couple of questions as a percentage. How does that work?

Notice the answers inside the widget, each with a circle to the left - tap on one of those, which will then appear green with a checkmark in the center to indicate the correct choice.

Embedding Html code or widgets within Adobe Edge Animate project

Hi There,
I have just discovered Edge and i think it is amazing finally the "new" web standards are being put in the designers hands again!!
My question is this i have designed an online web based application using the amazing features in edge, what i need to do now is for instance add a weather widget or a news feed, how do i get this to work in edge, i have read about using iframes to embed video but this approach doesnt work for me, i would love to use this software for all of our web based projects but i need to know if its possible to embed html
If anyone out there can point me to some literature or an example of how this is done i would be so grateful! seriously love this software!

Open edge, create new project, draw out rectangle, convert to symbol, name symbol widgetContainer, open up stage properties and set overflow to auto, open up code editor and under composition ready event add "sym.$("widgetContainer").load('html/helloworld.html');" Is this the right process?
What i need to do i either pull an iframe of an existing webpage onto the div whitin my project or get a jquery standalone project to display within the div either will work for me as long as i have the ability to update the information seamlessly, the exact widget im using is called WeatherSlider Premium jQuery Weather Widget. To be honest i would love to just pull an iframe of the site i would like displayed in the div that would be perfect..

Is it possible to dynamically create a user variable at runtime from within a Widget?

I'm trying to develop a custom Interactive Widget. This widget will allow the user to take multiple attempts, and needs to store information about previously completed attempts so they can (hopefully) see their improvements over time.
I'm trying to figure out the best way to store the data about the previously completed attempts across multiple sessions in a LMS. It seems that the data stored in user variables is automatically stored/restored in suspend_data, which would be perfect. The issue is that I can't find a way to dynamically create a new user variable from within a Widget. It looks like I can only access user variables that the author has explicitly defined in the Captivate interface. I'd rather not have to force the author to define an empty User Variable that they'll never knowingly use, just to give the Widget a bucket to store its data.
Does anyone have any ideas for what might be the best way to accomplish this? I'd like to stick to standard, "approved" APIs as much as possible, but I'd be willing to bend some rules if necessary.

Philip gave you sound advice. You'll have to hijack/re-purpose the comments or the suspend data. I was successful in using SCORM comments in a Moodle system to store extra data I needed for a customer. It's not ideal, but it gets the job done. Here's a thread about that:

If you use suspend data, you have to watch out for a few things:
1. It's base 64 encoded... so any data you append to what Captivate outputs will need to be in base 64 (that's a good practice anyway since the data has to be serialized).
2. On course re-entry, you'll need to capture the suspend data before it hits Cp to strip off / read your needed data. If the suspend data isn't in the format Cp expects, you'll get a nice white screen of death.
Ideally, it would be nice to be able to dynamically create user variables for purposes like this... and it's been requested in Cp 6.... we'll see if it gets added (not holding my breath). Until then, I'd use cmi.comments.

Using validation widgets within a data region

My problem stems from the fact that when I place Spry Validation Widgets in a form within a Spry Data Region, the validation widgets do not work. When I remove the data region, all is well.

Call OpenURL from Widget within iBooks/iBook Author?

I am trying to call widget.openURL("...") from within a dashboard app that I imported into iBooks Author. While this is working fine in the simulator and in the dashboard, it is doing nothing inside the book context. Everything else is working fine within the widget and I checked that the "openURL" code is called - but the method seems not to be available on iBooks. Anything I can do to open an URL from within a widget? (Using the hyperlink feature from within iBooks does not help).

None seem to correctly address this:- Is there code to fully access a website and stay in the widget in the iBook?
A link - in the book- on a readers iPad - that opens a web page will open a browser and take the reader away from the book, when the iPad moves to the browser window - tapping the ebook tab will re-open.
Moving from one web page to another from the web links, will- on the iPad - just open another window.
To my logic, to stay literally within the widget means having a widget that turns the widget aperture into a web browser. I have seen this done within website pages using iFrames I think. Maybe some web coders may have a solution.

Slideshows within composition widgets

Is it possible when inserting different slideshows into a composition widget (different slideshows placed within different targets) to have the slideshows start from the beginning when the corresponding trigger is clicked? I'd like the slideshow to play in order, starting with the first slide, when the trigger is clicked rather than have it playing continuously when viewing other targets.

Unfortunately it is not possible to start the Slideshow when the Composition Trigger is clicked.
All the slideshows with Autoplay option enabled start as soon as the page loads.

Running my widget plug-in within Xcode

Hi there
I have a widget plug-in I am developing in Xcode. Is there a way to run my plug-in from within Xcode instead of guessing if the plug-in is working when testing my widget in Dashcode?
I should mention I don't require a GUI when running the plug-in from within Xcode, I simply write to standard error with calls to NSLog.

Widgets nested within widgets?

Is it possible to nest a sliding panel widget within a tabbed panels widget?
I am trying to ste up an image galleries page where each gallery is a tab and within each tab the gallery images are sliding panels. I have the basic framework built but the sliding panels widget won't move to the next sliding panel. I have attached the html file that I currnetlt have.

The server queued the files, a online url is always better, because we can see all the files you use, not just your structure.

Can't click drag within widgets in Dashboard

Not sure what caused it, but suddenly I can't click-drag WITHIN a dashboard widget. For example, if I click and hold the pulldown menu in the Dictionary to change to thesaurus, the pull-down menu won't activate. It only activates if I click and release to bring it up. And I can't select text within a text field. If I click and drag over a word to select it, the whole widget will move.

It occurs even if I log out/in as a different user. Sure, there are workarounds, but I'd like to fix this behavior. Anyone got any ideas?

Widgets within widgets

I am working on a site that currently is very complicated to
navigate due to the vast number of pages. I would like to bring it
up to date with spry and widgets. I currently am using the tabbed
panel and inside that I am using an HTML panel to load content.
What I would like to do is find an easier way and cleaner to
implement a whole bunch on widgets within widgets? Also I would
like to know how to use widgets and effects from from one page that
is loaded into the HTML panel, for example I have a table with an
accordian widget, that page gets loaded into the main page using a
HTML panel. Thanks

Mobile safari and Iframe within widget

If a site is fully supported in mobile safari on the ipad, will it be fully supported via as an iframe in the ibook? I thought the two were one in the same.
I have a situation where I have an html 5 site called within an iframe of a widget and it does not work. Loads the iframe then nothing. The widget loads fine on the desktop and in preview in I book author but on the ipad it does not complain, just does not show up. In mobile safari, it also shows and works just fine. Any ideas?

SMTP Authentication within web form widgets will be a very helpful tool!

Most servers are changing security settings and now require the inclusion of SMTP server details and Username & Password to authenticate emails being sent via PHP, but within the Muse widget there is no provision for this and to change the coding manually is cause headaches for many people as I have read on support community. I wish Adobe would add this functionality within Muse, it will make designers lives simpler!

A mail and web server can be run from client or server and requires almost nothing in the way of hardware.
With a machine on the Internet, you have to worry about everything. My firewall rejects ~250 to 300,000 packets each week. DOS attacks can be done in different ways. Some ways you can control, others you can't. Ultimately, if you set up a machine well, with a properly configured firewall and keep up on the software, you'll probably be okay.
