WiFi extremely slow
When I am connected to a wifi network it is very slow. Most of the time EDGE is faster. I am having trouble loading pages on safari, loading youtube videos and browsing iTunes. Why would WiFi be so slow?
WiFi should be about 5 times faster. There is a test you can run on Safari on your iPhone that clocks your connection speed of both WiFi and Edge and compares them to their database of speeds: http://iphonenetworktest.com. WiFi is typically around 1000 while Edge is around 200. See what it is to determine if WiFi is the problem.
Is this problem on one particular WiFi connection or on all? Panera, which was one of the first companies to offer free WiFi, is so popular that their WiFi typically runs in the the 200 range, while my antique airport mushroom connected to cable at home can run well over 1000.

I have a new install of Arch after deciding to give it a go after 6 or 7 years on Gentoo.
The only problem I am experiencing is extremely slow internet. 1.58Mbps vs 31Mbps previously in Gentoo.
Google seems to indicate a lot of people have similar issues with Arch, but having followed the Wiki to the letter and not finding any solutions on Google I am stuck at where to start.

Please let me know what logs to upload, any assistance appreciated. I will continue to search myself. If you are using a USB WiFi device that can potentially change names with different ports, it would probably make sense to either create a persistent name for that particular piece of hardware, or go back to the old naming scheme if you don't have another wireless card. The idea of these crazy names is that if you have two wireless cards, two ethernet cards, or even an ethernet card and a broadcom wireless card (which also uses the eth* namespace), you will never know which will be 0 and which will be 1. But if you tell the system what to name them, then you can at least have your netctl service run on a given interface name and know what it is going to be.
Having said all that, you should also be aware that other network management solutions deal with changing interface names much better then netctl. Netctl needs the interface name to be specified in the profile, so if it changes you are kind sh*t out of luck until you make the manual changes necessary.
To see if you have multiple network management services trying to handle things, run "systemctl --type=service" to see all the services you have going. If you see more than one that should be handling the network (for example, if you enabled [email protected] during setup) then you need to figure out which single management solution is going to best fit your use case and go with that one only. Most commonly, people still ahve dhcpcd.service or dhcpcd@<interface>.service around. But it is also not uncommon to see people with netctl-ifplugd@<interface>.service running along with netctl-auto@<interface> at the same time, which will also cause issues. -
Wifi extremely slow after Windows 10 Upgrade
After upgrading to Windows 10 my wifi connection is extremely slow. I updated all the Lenovo drivers after the upgrade and it hasn't helped. The listed network driver is 2x2 11b/g/n Wireless LAN M.2 Adapter. I've included screenshot below of a speedtest on the same network between my T440s and my smartphone. The smartphone results are what should be expected on the laptop. T440s Speed Test Samsung S6 Speed Test When observing the task manager there are no other programs utilizing the network.
I had the same problem.
After trying many suggestions on the internet I found one that solved my problem. I took more than a week to solve but now I'm happy.
On my case the problem was the security wifi protocol. I was using AES and changed to TKIP. For me there is no reason to this to work, but solved my problem.
Hope it helps. -
BIG PROBLEM with Lenovo A320 wifi - extremly slow
Hello Lenovo community,
I have a big problem with my lenovo A320 all in one.
The wifi connection is extremly slow. I have 3 differen devices at the same place one macbook, one phone and my lenovo a 320 connectet to the same wifi. The macbook and phone get about 50mpbs but my lenovo gets only about 0.3 to 2 mbps. I have tested it wit different networks and differnet routers but is always very very slow.
When connected via LAN works fast and well but via wifi its useless.
I have the intel core I3 and Broadcom 802.11n with the newest drviers.
I have tried everything possible but nowthing helped.
Can you please help me with any solution ?
Thank you in forwardThats great news for you.. it probally is a defect on my phone, I purchased it new from apple and tommorrow its going in for service..
I have seen others with similar issues, must be a bacth, I even heard that there are 2 wifi antenas that were used on them, one of them gives problems the other not...
Just a shame, its a great phone
thanks for all the feedback -
Podcasts downloads over WIFI EXTREMELY SLOW on iPhone 4 & 5
IPhone 5 - podcast app - 26mb episode = 20+ minutes over WIFI
Why is it soon slow???!!!
I use the same wifi for other downloads and streaming iTunes so it is definitely not network issue
Furthermore on the same iPhone other apps and content download fast over the same network
Why would apple limit download speed or not be capable to fix this for so long???!!!
This issue is very old (+18 months) and it kills experienceI would blame iOS 5. It's software is a lot to handle on a simple 1-core, A4 pocessor. The nanno's simple software makes syncing much quicker with fewer steps. If you really wan't your music on fast, you can just reduce their quality a little.
Thank you for choosing Apple. -

Wifi extremely slow when not right next to the router?
Hey,
bought a new macbook air last week with Mountain Lion (I've fully updated it) and it seems to be having a few wi-fi problems. Although wifi speed is fine when in the same room as the router, the speed drops of significantly when in just the next room, and even small sites take about 10 seconds to load. I'm using an Virgin Media 54g router but the problem remains the same with a Belkin 54g router as well. The recieved speed in my room (a couple of floors up admittedly) is 11 and speedtest.net shows a 0.05mbps download speed and (strangely) a 1mbps upload speed when I can connect at all.I haven't yet had the oppurtunity to try n or 5ghz routers, but as the rest of the network uses the Virgin Media one, I'd like to be able to reliably connect to this.
I've tried suggestions online such as creating a new location, disabling bluetooth, tried a new user, a new router and renewing DHCP lease etc. but nothing seems to work.
Does anyone have any suggestions to try? I'm not sure if this is a software or hardware issue, but I thought this was the most appropriate place to put this.
Thanks in advance,
George BryanIt's normal, of course, for Wi-Fi performance to fall off with distance between the client and the access point. Whether your MBA is performing normally can only be determined by taking it to an Apple Store or AASP for testing.

Ipad mini with retina wifi extremely slow/dead after ios 8 update
Just updated my devices to iOS 8. Im having no issues with the Iphone 5s wifi works perfectly fine. But with the Ipad Mini w/ Retina I can't get any wifi. Its connected, I've reset the wifi & router. But my mini keeps saying there isnt any internet connection. Anyone else have this issue?
After updating my iPhone 4s that worked absolutely fine, i set about my iPAD 2,
took forever for the request made icon change to down loading, then installing. Once completed i had severe connection issues, Safari not finding servers, iOS telling me my password was incorrect so real problems, i could not even populate the BBC news app it just stuck as did Ebay, Amazon, Maplin etc Apps...
Not one to panic but terrified because i'm off on holiday for a week to Spain on Saturday, i use my iPad to remote my PC and remote assistance to systems i fit, and i have several hundred pages in Notes which i use as 'sticky's'.so do i need this like a hole in the head?
tried several reboots, eventually last resort before defaulting and clearing it out, and restoring, fearing loosing those precious notes (not certain they were all backed up), I reset my network settings (which wipes all stored login details for various sites, resets WiFi details etc),
To my Massive relief it cured all the connection problems i was having, so for some reason something must have corrupted.
you need to know what details you used on each site you use.
suggest you all try it
Other suggestion is you do need a lot of spare memory space, so park large files onto PC in alternative cloud storage, then delete from your device. You can restore deleted apps afik no are charged again, so delete those your not really using making sure you keep the data safe.
hope it helps

Airport express extending wifi extremely slow
Hello,
I have a time capsule creating a wireless network and a airport express extending the wireless network.
When I'm connected to the time capsule I have around 12mbp of speed but when I am connected to the airport express I have around 0.2mbp
In the airport utility it says the connection is good she connected to the airport express.
Everything was working fine a few days ago.
I was reading the the forum that it may be interference from a neighbour and to change the channel but I can fine where to change the channel.
Is changing the channel the solution? How can I access where to change the channel?
Or is there another solution?
Anyone knows how to fix this speed problem in airport express?
Cheers
FranciscoWhat is the distance between the Time Capsule (TC) and the AirPort Express Base Station (AX)? Are they in the same room, different room, different floor from each other? If in different rooms/floors, what is the basic building material used in the walls/floors/ceilings?
It is important to understand that the AX can only extend the TC's wireless network at the same bandwidth that it receives it. If you are only getting around .2 Mbps at the AX, then either there is too much distance between routers or there is some form of Wi-Fi interference (other Wi-Fis or the builiding material) between them that is preventing the AX from getting a strong enough signal to extend.
Changing channels is one possible solution. You would do so using the AirPort Utility. If you are using version 5.x of that utility, you would change channels as follows: AirPort Utility > Select the AX > Manual Setup > AirPort > Wireless tab > Channel. By default Channel is set to "Automatic." Click on the up/down arrow to the right of the Channel window to get the other channel options.
If this doesn't resolve the problem, please check out the following AirPort User Tip for details on how to best place each base station for maximum bandwidth in an extended network. -
I have a MBP 5.1 with snow leopard 10.6.8. It has been working fine until few days ago, when it started to have different problems:
1) airport is not working well. it is extremely slow, has difficulties in fully loading pages, looses connectivity, It is not browser related, behaves thesame in safari or firefox; it is not the router/wlan; my husband mbp wifi works fine (as it was mine...) and iphone wifi is also working fine. it sees the signal and different networks. , it is also very very slow in opening skype (after that, it is working ok) if I connect via ethernet cable to the same router, everything works perfectly and with the correct speed.could it be a damaged airport card? a software problem/corruption? logic board? (I hope not, the computer is out of apple care now....)
2) after a certain time (more than hours) of use, the trackpad is behaving strangly, increase sensitivity to touch, unwanted selection of folders, files and text or images in web pages when i move the cursor, the cursor jumping all over the places while writing, ecc I have the impression it starts doing that when I use heavily the CPU ( and the temperature goes up). Is this again a problem of the mother/logic board?
I had recently serviced it since it was not booting properly, but except some permissions repaired, they did noit find anything wrong in the hard drive (which I have now substituted with a SSD) or other hardware.
thanks in advance for any help/suggestions
alessandraI think I solved the wifi connection problem, just by switching off completely the router! sounds trivial, but in this case it worked!!!
the funny behaviour of the trackpad/cursor still persists. any suggestion???
thanks again -
Wifi unstable and extremely slow on my Aspire V Nitro VN7-591G-7.
Hi again ! My previous problem is now solved. But now I have issues with my wifi. The wifi works perfectly on other devices but on my Aspire V Nitro VN7-591G-7, it's just impossible to do anything on the internet... I've read it's a common problem and there are solutions. What steps should I follow in order to solve this ? I'm running Windows 8.1 by the way. I really like the performances of this computer so I wish to get rid of this stupid problem ! Thank you very much.
Can you describe "unstable and extremely slow" in more detail. Are you connected to the 5 GHz band of your wireless router or are you connected to the 2.4 GHz band? Are you having problems with all websites or just a few? Which web browser are you using? IE or chrome or firefox? What is the model # of your wireless router? Is your wireless router supplied by your ISP? Or did you buy it retail? What BIOS version is currently installed on you laptop? What BIOS version is designated as the latest version on Acer's website? Does the problem occur when you use other people's wifi such as a friend, relative or neighbor? Have you tested it somewhere besides your home? Does Acer's website list an updated wireless driver for your computer? http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers

My new ipod touch 4g is extremly slow in my house, but i have full strength wifi. Works fast at others homes. When i try to connect to the internet it gives me a server error. All other ipods and laptops work fine in the home. Does anybody else have this issue?
Have you tried powering off and then back on your router?
You can try:
- Reseting the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
-Resetting network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network settings. -
I'm not sure what's going on. My wifi is extremely slow. I know it's not the network, I have a PC hooked up via ethernet and it runs fast/normal. I also have a NAS on it, and the drives are mounted, sometimes. Often, it'll fail to make a connection to them. Again, the NAS shows up fine on the PC. I'm not sure why my macbook pro has such slow wifi; my previous mac ran fine and I haven't tinkered with anything in the network.

I have two routers both work fine. Only thing that has issues is the GS60 and GS70
Updating firmware can solve/improve the compatibility issue.

This guy is in the process of trouble shooting an issue with the Drivers and has not found a solution so there is nothing useful from this.
Changing wifi connection to 802.11a/5GHz band can improve the download speed. I'd give that a try.
The last issue he has is that his home router doesn't support 802.11a. -
Ipad Air is extremely slow on wifi. Ipad 1 worked fine.
My Ipad Air wifi is extremely slow. I have seen online this is an issue. I have read responses but still confused. Ipad 1 worked fine.
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

Macbook pro running 6.8 has wifi cutting out and extremely slow
My macbook Pro recently started having issues where the Airport says the wifi signal is full, yet is extremely slow(.5mbps compared to 30 that i normally get.)
It also cuts out but says it is still connected, but chrome, safari, itunes all cannot connect even to google.
So far I have tried,
Deleteing the playlist items in system configuration
restarting the router manually and from the router control panel
shutting off my airport card and turning it back on
set a new location in network preferences
setting DNS to Google DNS and openDNS
setting IPv4 settings to manual
checking the router channel
restarting my computer
setting the network utility to constantly ping
checked the preferences on the netgear router site
turning bluetooth on and off
setting and unsetting a firewall
using network diagnostics
the only thing that works is to turn airport off, then on again and reconnect. even then, I can only get a few page views, sometimes only one, before it stops loading anything. my wifi connection used to be amazing, then one day it just started doing this. I get very slow speeds when I can connect, and downloads are extremely slow.I also finger McAffee as the culprit, it's not necessary on Mac's as of 10.6.8+ Apple installed their own anti-OS X malware detector and it checks for updates like every 26 hours or so.
If you need to clean the Windows malware off their files, the free ClamXav does the job nicely and doesn't bugger up the machine as it's run as you need it.
For your other slowdown issues, I suggest you look through these tips of mine, my Snow Leopard is incredibly fast.
