Wifi on but no internet

Hi,
I recently experimented some unwanted behaviors with my 3Gs wifi.
After selecting my friend's wifi network and entering the password, the phone confirmed that I was connected (the wifi symbol was fully drawn) but I couldn't access the net.
Looking into the properties of the connection, I noticed that I had been given an "IP adress" and a "Subnet Mask" adress but no "Router" or "DNS" values.
I spent a week over there and sometime (about 4 times in 7 days) I had a properly working wifi connection. I can't tell what I may have done differently those times.
I should mention that 3G and Data roaming where turned off (I was in Mexico City) but I don't think it is relevant as even in my hometown, I also sometime experiemented Wifi on with no Internet.
Note that at my house and most other wifi locations, I never have any problem.
Is that a router issue on the wifi provider side?
Anything I should know so I can have a reliable Internet connection all the time over wifi?

yes me to i recently been notice and a few friends too in their iphones "whats going on" i was thinking to go in the at&t store or apple store and ask somebody whats with the service i pay a lot for the unlimited plan i live in north carolina USA "that anybody knows what is it".
i think is because in the summer apple is having the new iphone for Verizon, so i think they are playing around with the new changes and also i think because they are ready for the new software update in all iphones and itouch's thats why i think they are neglected the system now to move on with the new one that ***** because we are paying for it

This is possible to be connected to WiFi but not internet.
You connect to your modem/router via WiFi and whether it is connected to the internet or configured properly to route the internet to WiFi devices is a different story.
Now if you've already reset your WiFi (try disabling and enabling) and perhaps even restarting your MBP
Then make sure that your modem/router is connected to the internet.
You can try any other device, lights on the modem/router or use Eth cable to test.
Report back your findings.

try switching off photo stream in System Preferences > iCloud
This seems to throttle the internet connection and when I switched it off, it fixed my issues instantly!

Airport Extreme-have wifi connection but no internet on some devices???

I just replaced my linksys router with the latest (tower) Airport Extreme and an Airport Express as an extention of the network. Now I had a heak of a tme setting this up to mimic what the linksys did so I would have a smooth transition. I have a windows server 2008 R2 server which is my file server, DHCP & DNS server. I set my Extreme with the "DHCP & NAT" set the range I use which is 10.0.0.10 - .253, Set the router's address to 10.0.0.10 in network properties as well as setting the default host to point back to my server at 10.0.0.100. I also checked "Enable NAT port mapping protocol". Everthing seems to be working great most of the time...my wired PC's have internet and their proper IP addresses, my iMac and MacBook Pro have internet and proper IP addresses, iPad, iPhones...BUT I am noticing on my iPhone 5 that I'll show a full wifi signal but no IP address there for no internet. Now this happened a couple times and the only way I got it back was to do a rest of the phone. I have never had any wifi issues with this prior to installing the Extreme and Express. So I thought it was just the iPhone but my iPad just behaved the same way and a rest took care of it. Worse at the same time I checked my MacBook and I have the exlimation point over the wifi in the top tool bar. I can see and pick my SSID but couldn't get an IP address until I clicked the Airport Utility then it connected.
So basically I am looking for any suggestions or better yet fixes on my issues. I'm not sure if I have the Airport Extreme configured properly for it to work with the Windows 2008 Server.

Apple have a policy of not telling.. you can ask .. but they don't tell.
I am a rather recent arrival on the Mac/Apple seen so I would also wonder how an OSX server is setup with AE..
For wireless in particular, you can use Enterprise level security.. and that might fix it... because instead of using a preset key, as standard in wireless you can use a username and password combo from a radius server.. which might then be used to pass IP via dhcp. Something to consider if you don't mind getting a bit more complex..

The idea of using a static range of IP addresses.. that might work.. with DHCP actually turned off.. I have used this setup for something completely different.. ie to pass different DNS to clients that need access to Netflix from overseas.. I did not explore it from a your no dhcp setup.. but that is another option to try.. there is so little info supplied it is hard to know and you just have to trial and error with it.

I use my ipad2 at home with the wifi. I have nothing changed but now the internet doesn't work. The ipad shows me the wifi connection but i cannot receive email and the safari doesen't work too.

Wifi signal but no internet

About 3 days ago the wifi started to be very weak in my room until it just stopped connecting. The Macbook picks up the wifi signal, but when I try to connect it says "a connection timeout occurred". If I bring the laptop about 10 feet closer to the router (I'm the farthest room in the house from the router), it will pick up the signal and connect to the internet and be able to load pages. If I then bring the laptop back into my room, it will still say it's connected to the wifi, but it won't be able to load any web pages until it just disconnects itself from the wifi. When I run diagnostics on this, the wifi and settings is green, but the ISP is yellow until it just turns red. So the Wifi signal reaches my room, but the internet doesn't?
I've also made sure nothing in my room is interfering with the wifi, and the same thing happens on my iPad. The router is also in the same place it's been in the past month, and I've tried moving it about 5 feet closer, but it doesn't help and I can't move it any further.
How can I fix this problem? Is it just my router/modem, or is it some sort of settings on my Macbook?

If your iPad and MacBook operate normally when close to the router, then it is most likely a signal strength issue. Here are a couple articles to help you evaluate your signal strength on the Mac:

You said you confirmed that there are no other devices which might interfere such as a microwave, but please review

Could anything around your house have changed? Did you add any wifi devices or moved the location of other items which might cause interference?
Another possibility is external interference. Do you have a neighbor close by? Could they have added a wifi router or something else that might be the source of the problem?
If you have a cable router/wifi combo unit, could your cable provider have updated the firmware? Maybe try rebooting the routiner.

Wifi connected but no internet

All of a sudden i was watching hulu and it went to 'there is no java enabled for the ads' than i refreshed and tried to to go google and no connection, my laptop was connected at the same time with no issues. I restarted and still it connects but no internet. Its not the internet its self as my other devices are connected find all of a sudden this happened on my mac mini.

Are yoi teaaly on 10.4.3 on that Mac???

If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

I have an Airport Extreme (version 7.6.4) in bridge mode as main network, this is connected via ethernet to an ADSL router (this allocates the ip addresses)
I then have 3 airport express extending teh network to improve the signal in different parts of the house. All the ip addresses are 10.0.0.x.
I have internet connectivity on my iMac (10.8.5) connected to the wifi network, however my Macbook Pro (also 10.8.5) and all my iOS devices (iphone 4s on iOS 6.1.2 and ipad 2 iOS 7.0.3) whilst having strong wifi connection do not have an internet connection. When I launch AirPort utility on the macbook pro and iOS devices it shows the network but the internet reflects as disconected, whereas on the iMac the internet is connected.
Any ideas what is causing this?

Since you have a router "upstream" from the AirPort Extreme, the Bridge Mode setting on the AirPort Extreme is the correct setting.
As you know, when the AirPort Extreme is set to "create a wireless network", the AirPort can be setup either in Router Mode or Bridge Mode.
This avoids a situation where you have two routers on the same network, with both of them are trying to provide DHCP and NAT services. Conflicts would be certain with two routers competing against each other.
I then have 3 airport express extending teh network to improve the signal in different parts of the house. All the ip addresses are 10.0.0.x.
Can you clarify whether the Expresses are "extending" the network wirelessly? If they are, then they are already in the correct Bridge Mode setting.
Or, are the Expresses "extending" by connecting back to the AriPort Extreme using wired Ethernet connections?
We need to do some more troubleshooting starting with one Express at a time.....but first need to understand how you have the Expresses connecting to the AirPort Extreme.
We assume that each Express is either the A1264 version or the current A1392 version. Is that correct?

I have WiFi connection but no internet access HELP

I got the ipod touch 3rd generation two days ago at yesterday it was connecting fine but now when i try to connect it shows that i have good WiFi signal but no actual internet connection because when i try to load app world or Safari it wont let me. I have reset my router several times and reset my network settings on my ipod but still nothing. My computer and laptop are both working fine with the internet. However, my sister also has the same ipod and she has the same problem but she resets it once and it works but her ipod has not been updated in a long time and mine has the latest software. HELP ME PLEASE!!!

You may not really be connected to your WiFi network.
Your router may not have given your iPod a valid IP address. Go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix can be as simple as restarting your router (not reset - to restart remove power for 30 seconds and restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPod (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages. Check for a firmware update for your router on the manufacturer's support web pages. See the documentation that came with your router on how to install.
If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router make, model and version, and how you have it configured.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
With a strong carrier network signal (e.g., not merely WiFi), I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app
2) Resend Service Books
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.
3) Reboot
With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should contact your mobile service provider for formal support and to ensure that you are subscribed to a data plan from them that is adequate to use the services you desire (many services require a data plan, even if the method of access is only WiFi).

I have full wifi bars, but no internet

I have full wifi bars, but when I click on the internet it says I am not connected to the Internet. All the other computers in my house work fine and they all are on the same wifi network.

Nokia Lumia 521 - WiFi connected, but no internet ...

I have a brand new Lumia 521 on T-Mobile. I set up the wifi connection and it shows connected. However, there is no internet connection. Cannot download any app or anything.
Trouble Shooting: Rebooted the phone couple of times. Turned on/off wifi. delete/re-connect wifi.
Reboot wireless router couple of times.
Turned off the data service on my phone and only wifi is on now. Checked my router that there is an entery for my Windows Phone, but could not get any logs.
Nothing helped so far...
Loaded my sim with funds, thinking if something no fund is blocking it somewhere :-D
Everything is fine on my other smartphones.

At least you have 8.1. Those of us with 521 not updated yet, no real answers. Someone at Nokia going to close thread cuz no one posting. What to post, you should've been a politician with the no answer answer. Whole experience makes me rethink Microsoft and Nokia altogether. Both companies I used to believe in and support. Even word and excel don't sync well from phone to desktop. Backup for what? Only if you reset phone. That is backup even DOS using command lines would have been ashamed of (honestly so long ago don't remember if it had backup but I know my 386SX did) Pictures duplicate, triplicate and repopulate after deleted and I have backup to cloud turned off. seems Microsoft thinks differently than I about this issue? It continues to bring back a pic of EX that i hate...Great reminder!!!!. Phone storage eaten and not accessible to delete. Not allowed to delete certain apps that came with phone. Now I delete apps I prefer and no space becomes available? Do not use Nokia cinemagraph. Can't be viewed anywhere but on phone without converting. And what phone/camera has no flash? My parents old 110 (I think) at least had a cube. Poloroid built in...just saying that was the early 80s. Now lock screen and theme (ugly muted colors, btw) not working, can't get space back even when hooked to desktop, use cloud 6 now to keep phone and cloud from changing between app and desktop, have to convert all Nokia files, and most apps not available from what I can gather because Microsoft limits us. Nokia and Microsoft, get your acts together before marketing with one another. And, have answers to these questions. If you can't do it right, don't do it all. Maybe best to walk away from one another. Although, other than poor apps and flimsy phone, I am more disappointed in a guru conglomerate that doesn't care about the user. You keep trying to catch up with Mac and Droid...not at this rate. Excel fave program to use and love outlook. But this is crap on a stick, SOS and plain junk. And, the mighty do fall. I remember original Apple having market, commodore 64 and Tandy? Two of the three no longer exist. IBM was a typewriter back then, as far as I was aware. For Nokia, Here doesn't usually get me to correct place with full addy and zip entered) Not a good platform or flimsy phone. Can't wait to go back to Droid....so, I suggest every time I can't find an answer from one of your sites, you stop asking what I think. Here it is. IMac OSX Maverick Wifi connected, but no Internet

Hello Mac community. I am in dire need of a resolution on this wifi connection problem. I've tried most resolutions posted here on apple support community.
I've tried:
1: Resetting PRAM & SMC
2: Deleting SystemConfiguration
3: Deleting passwords off Keychain for wifi
4: Creating new wifi location under Safe Mode
I know my DHCP is fine. When I see my wifi connected, I can see my DCHP IP address connected under Advanced in Network Preferences when I check my connected wifi.
Strangely enough, I'm able to surf the internet after 10 minutes when I leave my computer enough. However, the internet cuts off and I'm back to no internet, but the wifi says I'm still connected.
There is another solution In that I turn off bluetooth, but I'm using a magic mouse and bluetooth keyboard. I can't risk turning it off and not be able to use those devices.

hello,
my ipod touch (4th generation) has stopped connecting to the internet since yesterday. For 6 months before then i have had no problems like this.
The wifi signal is full but it won't connect to any websites or aps. it will work for a few minutes sometimes if i restart the ipod or renew the lease It works in my office though, just not in my house
I have tried:
-turning off and on the router
- restarting iPod
-updating the software to the latest version
-resetting the network settings
-restoring the ipod from itunes.
what can i do to fix this? every other device in the house is connecting to the internet and this problem started just yesterday

Any error messages? No

Did the iPod connect before? Yes
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on the router
- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.Not clear you did that
- Since it works with other networks that then points to a problem with your network. I would rtry changing the security on the router, including using no security as a test..
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Wifi connected but no internet for a minute

Since last update for Yosemite 10.10.3 , whenever my MacBook pro early 2013 goes to sleep, the wifi disconnects and it can take up to a minute to reconnect when it wakes.
As soon as it wakes I have no internet connection, the WiFi indicator is on, as if connected, but in fact there is no internet for some time, usually between 30 secs to a minute.
many times i need to disconnect and reconnect the wifi, in hopes it works faster
This is happening using 5 different wireless systems ,including apple and cisco products, at home friends and office
Any ideas what to do?
