Wifi won't stay connected after switching phone off and back on

This does not seem to be the apparently common problem of either dropping wi-fi signal OR losing wi-fi after the phone sleeps.
I have a 3GS. My wi-fi works fine all day while I'm around the house even with multiple sleep events. However, when I switch off my phone at night and then turn it back on again the next morning, the phone stays on 3G. If I go to the wi-fi settings, it shoes wi-fi is "on" and I can select my network and it will join it right away. It just doesn't rejoin automatically.
I am not certain about this, but I think this problem may have only started when I recently switched on the "ask to join networks" setting. I have tried turning this off but still the problem remains.
My wife's 3GS and my son's 4 both stay connected after a switch off and back on, and we are all using the same network.
If anyone has any suggestions I would be most appreciative. With three of us now sharing the cell data plan we are getting very close to the limit each month and want to maximize wi-fi usage.
Thanks.

  • TouchID for App Store purchases doesn't work after turning phone off and back on?

TouchID for unlocking my iPhone 5s works 99.9% of the time.  It's fantastic.  However, using it to authorize App Store purchases, NOT in-app purchases, is less fantastic.  In my case, it seems like every time I turn my phone off and back on, the phone forgets it's can use TouchID to authorize app purchases.  I have to go into Settings -> General -> Passcode & Fingerprint -> (enter my passcode) -> Fingerprints -> iTunes & App Store, and turn that off.  Then I have to turn it back on and enter my Apple ID password.  Not exactly a quick procedure.  The good news is that once I turn it back on, it works like it's supposed to until I turn my phone off and back on again.  If it can remember to use TouchID for unlocking the phone, why can't it remember to use TouchID for authorizing App Store stuff?  Am I missing something?
Anyone else experiencing the same thing and/or have a solution?  Thanks!

I've paid my past due bill, and turned the phone off and back on, why isn't my service restored?

How long ago did you pay the bill? Has the payment cleared? It may take up to a couple of hours after the payment clears until service is restored.
Unless you are in the area that is having service issues. There is an area where service is down.

My problem - when syncing and error messages  comes up:  iTunes could not sync calendars to the iPhone because an error occurred while margin data."  I've tried turning the phone off and back on, & tried both USB ports but get the same thing.  What can I do next since it doesn't give me even one clue as to what the error would be?

Before I started to resync calendars one by one as suggested in the troubleshooting article, I remembered something that came up in a sync when I first attempted :  a 'which one do you want to keep' message about a repeating calendar event, which came up with three options, one from Calendar, and two from iCal on the phone.  I deleted that event, then went through the calendar resync one by one, and all seems OK now.
In Music there is a way to find 'ghost' items that show up as grayed-out on the menus, so that you can try to reassociate or delete them.  It would be nice to have a similar way to work with Calendar!
Thanks for pointing me to the right article.

  • IPhone 3gs WI-Fi won't stay connected after 6.1 update

I have a 3gs and the wi-fi connections have been working fine on iOS 5.1 etc. until I just updated to 6.1.  Now it sees the networks that I normally connect to, but it won't connect unless I physically move closer to the source of the wi-fi signal in my office, ie. the Airport Extreme Router with the software update that just came out last week. I had this problem before and after I updated the router software.  No problem previously.  Its like the phone can't hold onto the wireless connection and either can't connect or won't stay connected.  I've hard re-booted, and reset network settings, etc.  No luck.  What's the problem and the solution?  Thanks.

  • New iPod Touch Wifi won't stay connected?

Just bought new 16 GB iPod Touch, and it won't stay connected to my home WiFi. Even after a reset of network connection, re-enter WiFi info and Touch connects for a few minutes and then loses connectivity even tho WiFi bars still show. Turning WiFi off and on does not fix problem. Turning iPod off and back on will allow Touch to reconnect, but again only for a few minutes at best.

Does the iPod work OK with other networks?
    Do other devices work OK?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

I continue to get 'no air printers found' after switching on/off. Ink and paper ok. What should I try next please?

See requirements for AirPrint and printers that support AirPrint here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
If your printer supports AirPrint but does not work then:
Your printer might need a firmware update
Your printer must be on the same WiFi network
Your router must support Bonjour (Zero-configuration networking).
    Troubleshooting:
Turn Off iPad, WiFi router (remove from power), and Printer (remove from power).
    Turn on WiFi router
    Wait 30 seconds
    Turn on printer
    Wait 30 seconds
    Turn on iPad
    Try to print.
If you need more help then what model printer do you have?

If possible... you need to Upgrade to Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x  (which will Run iTunes Version 11)
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
    Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...

After the Successful Install, run Software Update to get the latest updates for Snow Leopard and iTunes.
Be sure to make a Backup of your Current System Before Upgrading...

  • MacBook Won't Stay Connected to Smart Phone WiFi

Mac OS X version 10.7.5 running on 2 year old macbook pro 2 GHz Intel i7 8 GB memory.
This has been a consistent problem ever since I've owned this MacBook...just that I'm online trying to pay bills tonight and do some business and have had to reconnect every 2 minutes and it's driving me slightly insane.
So here's the deal. On my Verizon smart phones (used to be a Droid, now is a Windows HTC...the phone doesn't seem to matter) I've got the mobile hot spot. I turn it on, it shares the phone's internet connection over a wifi signal. I turn on the sharing on the phone, wait for it to appear in the wifi connection dialog on my mac and then connect. It takes a second and then I'm connected. I go to my favorite banking site, enter my username and password, wait and wait, then look up at the toolbar and notice that I'm not connected wifi anymore. I reconnect to the phone, refresh the website, enter my name and password, login, then start to pay bills and it starts hanging again. I look up at the toolbar, I'm not connected again. I reconnect again, am able to continue working online for a couple of minutes and then it disconnects again. It will do this sometimes two or three times, sometimes five or six times. Eventually it stops disconnecting and I am able to continue working normally for as long as I like.
Now, the mac does not have this problem with any other wifi. If I'm at home connected to my home network, it connects just fine. Starbucks...connects just fine.
Also, none of my other devices have any problem connecting to the phone. My Nexus 7 tablet connects to the phone just fine. My other laptop connects to the phone just fine and there's none of this constant disconnecting.
And right now as I'm looking up at the toolbar I see it's disconnected again.
Why does my MacBook Pro keep disconnecting from my phone's hot spot? How can I diagnose and hopefully fix this problem?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

I'm having this issue, as well.  I have 2 MacBooks and they both lose WiFi after waking-up from sleep.  Ever since Lion came to town, this has taken a poop in the connectivity bed.
I state a preferred network, yet after waking up it is no longer connected or grabs some random network.  I've tried to tell it only preferred, but it keeps doing its own thing.
VERY ANNOYING.... especially when they fixed the iMac for the issue I am describing.  Ughhh.

  • Touch Generation 5 WiFi won't stay connected

I recently got a new 5th Generation iPod touch. I have a Netgear wireless adapter, and for some reason, when ever I reenter my house, I must restart my wireless so that my iPod can connect to it. However, now, my wireless will keep going out, and I will have to restart my wireless all of the time. Is there any way I can change my wireless settings, so that my iPod will stay connected? (my old 3rd generation had the same problem, but after i restarted the wireless once, it would stay  connected until I left the house).
    Thanks

So you're saying that it's only your phone that has the wifi problem? Like your friends are using the same wifi as you, but only you lose connection while they don't?
If that's the case, does the wifi have a passcode? And also some wifi networks have a verification before the wifi becomes accessible. For example, you may connect to a wifi network without having to put a password, but then you would need to open Safari and you would need to confirm some things before you're able to use it. Like in college, the wifi is free and open to everyone but only students who have a user and pass are able to access the wifi.
2nd possible solution is to reset your network settings. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. See if that works.
3rd, restart your phone by turning it on/off.
4th, restore your phone on iTunes.

  • Wifi will not stay connected after Lion upgrade - help?

I upgraded to Lion last week on my iMac and now my computer will not stay connected to wifi...  it is fine if I restart my computer, but then it looses its connection, settings when it goes in to screen saver mode - very frustrating, please help!

This has been well discussed on another thread here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3191630?start=2055&tstart=0
(There appear to be no moderators on these forums to make sure that new threads with the same topic don't get linked to a parent !?)
Anyway... The issues appear for many to be related to a specific Airport card type & firmware version.
I've had constant disconnect problems with my Mini since upgrading to Lion.
    My Airport card specs are:
Card Type:                              AirPort Extreme  (0x168C, 0x86)
      Firmware Version:                    Atheros 5424: 2.1.14.9
Connecting to my Time Capsule distributing on:
              PHY Mode:          802.11a
The Atheros firmware version appears to be the issue depending on certain wifi network conditions.
After some playing about today I think I've managed to force my Mini to connect on a better frequency, without having to roll back the firmware to the Snow Leopard version or mess with the Mini Airport card settings (via Terminal) by changing some settings in my router (Time Capsule).
These are the changes I made:
Airport Utility > Wireless > Wireless Options
    Set Radio Mode to 802.11 a/n - b/g instead of 802.11 a/n - b/g/n (Automatic)
Set 2.4 GHz Channel to 13 instead of Automatic
Set 5GHz Channel to 48 instead of Automatic
    My Mini now connects on:
    PHY Mode:          802.11g
    Signal / Noise:          -64 dBm / -96 dBm
    Transmit Rate:          54
    instead of previously
    PHY Mode:          802.11a
    Signal / Noise: -73 dBm / -96 dBm
    Transmit Rate: 36
This appears now to be stable (no drops in the last 4 hours). It's a low transmit rate still, but better than before.
The iMac is still connecting on
    PHY Mode:          802.11n
    Signal / Noise:          -69 dBm / -88 dBm
    Transmit Rate:          216
and all is right with the world (hopefully for the long term)

  • Apple tv won't stay connected after yosemite upgrade

After upgrading to yosemite non of my apple tvs (3 of) will stay connected.
I have upgraded everything as of the 1/12/14 and still no joy.
I have a good wifi connection so its not that!
I have try connecting by playing through the computer to the apple tv and that also drops out!
I have restarted everything and that didn't help!
I have even setup the apple tv as new to see if that would help, nothing!
I have installed the latest upgrade for yosemite which is supposed to be for connection improvement, which doesn't work either as my mouse still keeps cutting out.
I have even tried changing computers and going through my macbook pro ( also running the latest yosemite) and that doesn't work!
Does any body have any other ideas on what i could try?
    Please help
    Dave

Not sure what instructions you are referring to, regardless wifi is susceptible to interference. If your neighbour's network is using the same channel or if yours is not encrypted that will of course cause issues, which is a result of the network not the Apple TV. There are also many other factors that can cause interference.
It is working just fine for me and most users, and if you took it to another network you would see similar results. If you wish to resolve then proper troubleshooting needs to occur

  • WiFi does not stay connected after latest upgrade

I am having an issue with the WiFi connection on my Iphone 4 after the latest 4.3 upgrade.
It does not stay connected to the wifi. I have to go and manually connect to it.
Then after a couple of seconds it loses it again.
    Why is this

"I'm not sure why yours is doing it but I would suggest your reboot your router and reset the iPhone network settings.
If you are hiding your SSID, do the last step which is tap Settings > WiFi > Other and completely re-enter your network name, security, and network password."
Been there, done that... Did ALL these steps, but that does not fix the problem... AFTER inputting the SSID manually, selecting security, and then the password, iPhone STILL says it cannot connect...

  • My WiFi won't stay connected for longer than 5 minutes!

My problem is that my connection is okay for roughly 5 minutes and then the connection just disappears for no reason whilst Airport is still showing as connected. If I run Network Diagnostics it tells me that I have a working connection and to check if I typed the address correctly. If I then turn Airport off and then on again I will get the connection back for the same amount of time until it goes again.
And to add to the annoyance of this problem is that tomorrow my connection might be absolutely fine. But then 5 days later, out of the blue the problem can start up again. There is no consistency to this issue, its very unpredictable and a huge pain in the ***.
Any ideas? I have looked at similar solutions on this website and in regards to IP address and other things that have been mentioned I am set up correctly. I have had this problem before and it was easy to fix just by resetting the Airport box manually and then creating a new wireless network and reconnecting. But I have tried that many times now and the problem still persists. Also, all phones and the 2 other computers in my house (one iMac purchased last year and a PC) do not have this problem. This is an older iMac running OS X version 10.4.11.
Any solutions would be greatly appreciated!

The problem is still persisting intermittently. Its incredibly annoying as the connection has been fine for a couple of weeks now, but today I get home from work and it's happening again. Unfortunately your solution did not work so I have included screenshots of the Airport and TCP/IP tabs of my network preferences if that helps.
The screenshots below will appear when I click "configure", I don't have an "advanced" button or a DNS tab by the looks of it.
