Wiki on Server 10.8

I am trying to set up a wiki for our company. Our company's server name is server.companyname.private, and thus the wiki is server.companyname.private/wiki
We haven't setup our company website yet, but will be hosting it through wix.com and not on our own server.
I am able to view and edit the wiki on the server machine, but not at individual workstations. I get a server not found error when trying.
I am guessing that I must change the .private to .com on the server console to fix this. Yes?  I haven't been able to find any info from anywhere to clarify this...
When we host our publically viewable website, will this interfere with our on-site wiki?
Thanks for your help on this one.

Due to the nature of servers, you have to set them up as though they're production machines.  Not "practise" machines.
To clarify, you need to set your servers name to the actual host name of the business you intend to use.  www.apple.com for instance.
Then, you need to make sure that that domain name is registered and points to your server for other computers on the internet to see the server.
Lastly, if you have a router or firewall in place, you need to ensure that it's allowing connections from the outside world to reach your server.
Of course, all this is moot if you're just trying to reach the web server from within your local netowrk.  If that's the case, then all you have to do is tell your client computers to look at your server for DNS resolutions.
System Preferences --> Network --> ethernet or wifi --> Advanced --> DNS
Take note of the address that's there.
Click the plus button at the bottom,
Type the actual IP Address OF THE SERVER.
Click the plus button again.
Type the address that was there before.
Click apply.
Close system Prefs.
HTH.

  • Wiki/blog server relationship to blojsom (plugins ?)

    Is there any relationship between the wiki/blog software and blojsom ? I've seen some comments about this on other forums but not sure if this is still the case.
    I see a plugin folder in some of the wiki config folder and am wondering if it's possible to use blojsom plugins (with/without some modifications) ? Or if there are any plugins in the works ?

    There is no support for blojsom plugins in the Leopard Wiki/Weblog server.
    Support for third party plugins is something we are looking into for the future but have no plans around yet. If that is something that is important to you, let us know through a bug report.

  • WIKI/BLOG server security

    Trying to set up a WIKI/BLOG server and want to allow groups to access only certain WIKIs. (e.g. leadership group is only group that can see leadership WIKI, etc.)
    I've dug around and can't find how to do it. Is there a way to do this? And if so, how?
    They are connecting to just the IP address for now (later to be a DNS name) via the browser. Connections are working, but anyone can see any group.

    Hi,
    In your group setup with Workgroup Manager (basic group panel) you select who can view and who can edit/create entries on the group's web site with the drop down selection menu in the middle of the page. Anyone will be able to see the list of groups hosted on your server if you use the dynamically created index page (the black background page). But if you select only group members to view the group wiki/blog, then an individual must log in and be a member of the group in order to see any of its pages. That includes any group service offered on the group web site.
    By using the Directory.app you can enter more fine grained permissions for the group web site when you pull up the group entry and select who can view and edit/create by specific member within the group.
    HTH,
    Harry

  • How to configure the wiki/blog server to share the embed LDAP

    All
    anyone know the steps to share the embed LDAP to the wiki/blog server? the SSO steps of course meet the requirement, but all i haveto do is to setup the ENV to work with the demo custom apps for avoiding login twice. any input are appreciated.

    And i assumed wrong :)
    You are not using the latest version of WebCenter. According to what i see, you are using webcenter 11.1.1.3 or earlier which does not use UCM as wiki and blog service.
    So basicly all the links i provided in my previous post are useless for you.
    To be honnest, configuring wiki and blog in pre PS3 environment is a real pain in the "you know what i mean".
    The reason for this is that you will need to create a few keystores, configure SSO,... The instruction that explains how is very long and difficult and in the end, you end up with integrating iframes which is not nice...
    That's why since PS3, webcenter uses UCM to store the wiki and blog services.
    If it's for a demo application, why not use the latest version?

    Samuel Lester: "Chandra, outstanding contribution and information! Your SSIS package handles many of the shortcomings of Maintenance Plans. MPs were originally created to assist DBAs with the more common administrative tasks,
    but as the scale continues to grow across enterprise environments, we're all forced to write our own enhanced versions such as this. Thanks for the addition and please do add to the Gallery if you haven't yet."

    DRC: "This is good article, The only this which can be corrected is : ==> This can be achieved using “maintenance Cleanup Task • Maintenance Plan has a control flow item “maintenance Cleanup Task” to delete the old backup files based on
    age of the backup, but it creates the problem when it deletes the full database backups based on n no.of days leaving all the dependent intermediate differential and transaction logs which are useless. "

    Weird thing is... I have no idea how rack 1.4.1 got installed and by whom. In any case, uninstalling it and reinstalling 1.2.1 solved the problem.

  • Media is not showing up on my wiki/blog server

    I have recently setup a server running 10.5 and running Podcast Producer. I have created a wiki/blog page and created several groups. I have attempted to use Podcast Capture to post videos, files and presentations to the webpage but the files never show up on the page. I can find them in the Podcast folder on the server but they don't show up on the group webpage. What am I doing wrong? I have seen it done before, I'm just not sure what I'm missing. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Could I refer you to the forum on Podcast Producer.

    Hello gaspa, and welcome to the Apple boards,
    The best place to ask a wiki specific question is in the OS X Server > Web forum located elsewhere on the forums. You are much more likely to find a web guru there and get more eyes on your question then you will here.
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1237
    This forum is really best for Xserve specific questions concerning hardware, video etc.

    Hello,
    I just saw this on a server I was working on. In our case we moved the /Library/Collaboration folder to another drive and while we pointed Server Admin to look in the new directory we got this error until we restarted the wiki server. We used "sudo serveradmin stop teams" followed by "sudo serveradmin start teams", but rebooting the whole server probably would have done the trick too.
    If this doesn't help you, it may still be related to the folder that holds the wiki server stuff (usually /Library/Collaboration). Could be permissions, missing files, etc.
    Good luck!

  • Remove outdated wiki from server

    How do I remove a Wiki (often referred to group_name in Apple's Guides) in entirety?
    When we delete the Wiki from the wiki web, we're just deleting the access to the Wiki. The Wiki remains on the server just in case we need to bring it back later.
    But what if you know for sure you will never ever want that Wiki back again, can you delete/remove it permanently from the server?

    When eDirectory starts on the server, it will enumerate the NCP transport endpoints and publish them in the server's Network Address field. You can see this in Console One by looking at the details of the server's NCP Server Object. If the Network Address field still contains the defunct addresses, you can reboot the server, or restart eDirectory via SET DSTRACE =*. ( That's "star dot" ) This should force the update of the network address field. You can confirm after a few minutes in Console One. Then when workstations say "Hey, how do I get to server FOO?" It will get a correct answer.
    As to the rest? I don't know. Its likely your NetWare DHCP server was handing out SLP / TREE / ... options which the client was using to locate the server. Try entering the IP address of the netware server in the TREE field and see if you can login. If so, its a SLP issue.
    Other options are that the server is still trying to route traffic out the missing IP address / interface. Check the routing configuration using INETCFG and TCPCON.
    Lots of ways it ould be broken, you are just going to have to eliminate as many of them as possible. The risk of changing too many things simultaneously should not be underestimated. I would have opted to move the DHCP server over, and left the IP addresses on the servers. Then once you have confirmed proepr operation of DHCP, then decommission the IP addresses.

  • Wiki Server - People - suppress for unauthenticated users

    With Wiki Server 4 (Server 10.8.1), unauthenticated users hitting the web server's default home page are presented with Wiki Server's default landing page listing:
    "My Documents"
    "All Activity"
    "Wikis"
    "People"
    If an unauthenticated user tries any of the first three items they get no content, which is great (althouh only the "My Documnets" page prompts for credentials — I think they all should).
    However, if they hit the "People" item, it lists (exposes) all of the people on your system.
    We don't want a list of our users exposed — we think if you are unauthenticated, you shouldn't see anything when clicking on "People".
    Suggestions?

    ******** PLEASE BEFORE DOING ANYTHING COPY THE CONTENT FOLDER OF THE SERVER.APP AND BACK IT UP SOMEWHERE SAFE**************
    I have been working on this for weeks.....  I understand some people want to be able to share there blogs and people pages but you have to understand some people don't
    "People pages" should be set up is the same way as wikis...  The owner(s) have the ability to give access to whom they choose.  If it is a public "people page" it shows up in search and activity, if it is private it doesn't show up (or only shows up in search results with people that have access).  I also feel you should have the ability to choose whether a person has a "people page" or not.
    But it is what it is. So I'll step through what I did to make it work for me.  You do lose some services but this was my goal....
    1.  All activity does not work
    2.  Search does not work
    3.  tags do not work (I hope to fix this because I want tags....)
    4.  iPad now brings up the PC version of the wiki server, which eliminates the ability to upload files.  Some one with some java script experience maybe able to help us out but at this time I just chose to remove it....
    **The other thing to note is the iPad version is completely independent of the PC version (I address this also) so even if you make all these fixes someone with an iPad will still be able to search and gain access to people unauthenticated***
    Now all services (including the home page and people) need authentication to gain access.
    ************** Once complete you need to stop/restart wikis**************
    **************I recommend making a copy of the content file of your server app (just incase)**************
    Step 1.  Set up authentication: (SAVE A COPY ON THE DESKTOP BEFORE EDITING)
    1.Edit the controller for the wiki
    /Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/usr/share/collabd/coreclient/app/co ntrollers/application_controller.rb
    2. find the block
       helper_method :service_client, :current_user, :current_version, :page_context, :use_inline_webauth, :javascript_includes_for_locale
       helper_method :webcal_enabled?, :webmail_enabled?, :entityURL, :iphone, :ipod, :ipad
       before_filter :master_before_filter, :block_older_internet_explorer
       after_filter :master_after_filter
    3. Change to
       helper_method :service_client, :current_user, :current_version, :page_context, :use_inline_webauth, :javascript_includes_for_locale
       helper_method :webcal_enabled?, :webmail_enabled?, :entityURL, :iphone, :ipod, :ipad
       before_filter :master_before_filter, :block_older_internet_explorer
       before_filter :ensure_user_is_authenticated
       after_filter :master_after_filter
    2.  Remove search/all activity/tag access (SAVE A COPY TO DESKTOP BEFORE EDITING)
    Go to:
    /Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/usr/share/collabd/coreclient/config /routes.rb
    I removed the following lines of code:
        match "/updates" => redirect("/wiki/activity")
        match "/updates/:path", :to => redirect {|params| "/wiki/activity/#{params[:path]}"}
        match "/activity", :to => 'activity#index'
        match "/search", :to => 'find#index'
        match "/search/:id", :to => 'find#index'
        match "/find", :to => 'find#index'
        match "/find/:id", :to => 'find#index'
    3.  Remove activity from menu bars (SAVE A COPY TO DESKTOP BEFORE EDITING)
    Go to:
    /Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/usr/share/collabd/coreclient/config /initializers/register_apple_plugins.rb
    I removed these lines of code:
        BannerLinks::Project::Activity,
        BannerLinks::Project::Documents,
        BannerLinks::Project::Tags,
        BannerLinks::Person::Activity,
        Sources::Activity,
       Sources::MyFavorites
    4. Redirect iPad to the PC version of the wiki server. (SAVE A COPY TO DESKTOP BEFORE EDITING)
    Go to:
    Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/usr/share/collabd/coreclient/app/con trollers/application_controller.rb
    Change:
          if ipad and ios5plus
          redirect_url = "/wiki/ipad/#route=#{request.fullpath}"
          logger.info("Redirecting to #{redirect_url} because we detected an iPad running iOS5+")
          redirect_to redirect_url
          end
    To:(You could probably just remove these lines but I was still troubleshooting at the time)
          # if ipad and ios5plus
          # redirect_url = "/wiki/ipad/#route=#{request.fullpath}"
          # logger.info("Redirecting to #{redirect_url} because we detected an iPad running iOS5+")
          # redirect_to redirect_url
          # end

  • How to delete old unused blog tags from Wiki Server 3 in Lion Server

    My Tags index in my Wiki Server 3 wiki (Lion Server) still shows old tags that are no longer in use.
    But, how in the world does one remove them?
    Any help?   Thanks.

    I figured it out, but had one hoop to jump through.   I hadn't noticed a tiny little edit button in the far upper right corner of the tags window.   Clicking it reveals red minus signs next to each tag.  That's how to delete a tag.
    BUT, since my tags were no longer in use (I'd deleted the original blog(s) they were attached to, when I tried deleting them I got an error message.   So, I created a dummy blog entry, tagged it with the same tags that I want to delete, saved the blog, then went back to the all-tags view and deleted them (they existed this time).  After done, I deleted the temporary blog.   All done.
    It seems clear that the WIki 3 Server is very primative in many ways.  I hope Mountain Lion reveals a host of improvements.

  • Failure migrating wiki to Mountain Lion Server with wikiadmin, value is out of range for type integer

    We are trying to migrate our 10.6.8 wikis from the OS X Server to our new Mountain Lion OS X Server.  I am using "wikiadmin migration -r <collaboration directory> -g <wiki name>" to migrate each wiki individually. We have about 30 wikis in the old server, three of which fail to migrate, all with the same problem (below). The process runs successfully for a while, but ultimately fails and rolls back the transaction. It appears there is some problem trying to generate a unique filename, perhaps for some of the uploaded files?
    Has anyone else seen this error? large amount of pages, content, and attachments in these wikis and just recreating them in the new server would be a monumental task. Some of these attachments include videos and other large files, not sure if that might contribute to the problem.

    Aug 29 13:25:11 gslcwiki.local wikiadmin[54032] <Debug>: [PGCConnection:320 7e7e1180 +0ms] Executing update [ROLLBACK]

    Okay, so a little more detail for you…
    If I can manage to restart the server without the wiki service on, everything else seems to work fine (including the web service running the default home page) and "serveradmin fullstatus wiki" will report that the service is stopped.
    But as soon as I try to start the wiki service, it never finishes, and it prevents the web service from working properly anymore. i.e. I get a 502 Proxy Error instead of the OS X Server default home page. It's after the attempted wiki start that "serveradmin fullstatus wiki" starts to give the
    serveradmin[2373:707] outstanding requests are: (
            Command = getState;
            Module = "servermgr_wiki";
            Timestamp = "2012-10-25 16:22:15 +0000";
    error. And then I can't stop the wiki service - even "serveradmin stop wiki" gives the same "outstanding requests" message.
    This time I tried to stop the wiki from Server app and I got this error:
    An error occurred on the server while processing a command.
    The error occurred while processing a command of type 'getState' in plug-in 'servermgr_wiki'.
    If it's helpful at all, I've notice the following in my log files that seem related, but I have no idea how to fix - it almost seems lie the migration of the wiki failed from 10.7 to 10.8:
    collabd[767]: [CSConnectionPool:141 6a92000 +14027ms] Schema is STILL out of date (14 < 69) after launching wikiadmin, update failed! collabd will refuse to run until this is fixed.
    I'm really pulling my hair out over here, and have no idea what to try next?
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thank you!
