Wiki templates

Alright so I've created a few wikipages before for various things, but never for arch. Right now I'm working on http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dell_Latitude_D600 because I need to migrate some partitions to other places I figured I'd take the opportunity to reinstall arch.
Anyhow my question is why don't we have templates for basic things like files, or command output???? They make creating wiki pages much easier and they look better (imho). I created a few, basically taken from Gentoo's templates with a few minor modifications. But I find it hard to believe that I am the first to have a need for such a thing. Are they implemented in the wiki differently, and I just don't know how to use them or do we really not have any?

Doesn't look like it is finished yet as there is only a simple template...

Can you nake Wiki Template with Lion server ?  Or do I have to start every page from scratch.

How would they accomplish these tasks if they weren't logging into the relevant systems? Installing programs requires being logged into a user account on the system unless the application is one which can be installed remotely via a system such as Apple Remote Desktop. If that's what you had in mind, perhaps one of the management systems such as Casper from JAMF Sofware might allow what you need.

  • Edit the default wiki template on Mac OS X Server

    Hello,
I'm so new to this, I have a Mac Xserve with Mac OS X Server, I successfully enabled the following services and all up and running smoothly according to the criteria of my company:
ical Server, ichat Server, Web Server, MySQL, Podcast Producers Server, Mail Server, Wiki, and Blog Server. http://www.macsrv.cmrdi.sci.eg
I need to know how to edit the main template of the wiki and blog server (start page) to be able to add our company logo and so....
otherwise, I need to know if I can ser Unicode on it to add RTL languages like Arabic, I know I can type Arabic in the topics and there is not problems with this.

    Start by reading this: http://images.apple.com/server/macosx/docs/ExtendingYour_WikiServer.pdf
You will create a custom theme. Copy all the .xsl files into your theme folder. Modify default.xsl for most of the sub-level pages. Modify group_listing.xsl for /groups and /users pages. Your server index page is located in Library\WebServer\Documents. Most of what you want to do can probably be done through CSS.
Once your custom theme is finished set it as the default in the Admin Panel.

  • Customizing wiki templates?

I have been trying to tweak the wiki pages to my liking in Leopard server. The web guide only has one paragraph about editing the theme.plist file in /Library/Application/Support/Apple/WikiServer/Themes/
wireframe.wikitheme/. I have taken out the comment to keep the theme hidden and that works. I can now select the wireframe theme in my wiki's. However the custom sidebar code seems to break the welcome page if I uncomment it. What I would like to do is have custom sidebar items and also have the sidebar show up in all my wiki pages. After messing around I found that I can take the example sidebar code and put it in the metadata.plst file under the groups wiki folder. This actually works. I don't know enough html or css to get this to show up for all pages. Has attempted to customize this yet?

I've also tried moving the xsl files to within the themes and the edited files do not show as modified in the browser even after restarting the server.
Please can someone check what I have done and let me know whether this is correct.
The first thing that I did was to follow James Craig's instructions in a different post.
    James Craig wrote:
    cd /Library/Application\ Support/Apple/WikiServer/Themes/
There is a directory for each theme. You can create your own themes here, or create copies of the theme directory. For example:
    sudo cp -r float.green.banner.wikitheme/ mytheme.wikitheme
    sudo cp wireframe.wikitheme/theme.plist mytheme.wikitheme/
Then edit the theme.plist file copied from the wireframe theme.
    1. Change the displayName from "Wireframe Theme" to "My Custom Theme".
    2. Change the name from "com.apple.wireframe" to your own unique ID.
    3. Change the "selectable" key to true (or remove the key/value pair).
    4. Uncomment the "sidebars" key/value pair. NOTE: The "Upcoming Events" sidebar dict needs a UID key/value; either add one or leave that dict commented.
    5. Save the file.
The next thing I did was to copy the XSL into the custom theme folder as per John Anderson's instructions.
    John Anderson1 wrote:
You should start with the templates already in /usr/share/wikid/lib/apple_templates and copy them into your template folder. Never edit these files in-place -- we will end up overwriting them in a software update! Copy the xsl files into your custom theme. The theme will need to be selected in that specific group wiki's settings in order for the new xsl files to be used.
I have restarted the server with:
sudo serveradmin stop teams;sudo serveradmin start teams
and I have restarted the web service but the changes do not take effect.
If I modify the files directly in /usr/share/wikid/lib/apple_templates then the changes are effected.
So my theme folder looks like this:
    pwd: /Library/Application Support/Apple/WikiServer/Themes/ooai.wikitheme
    folder contents:

  • Multiple wiki templates for a group?

Hi is it possible to add multiple custom templates to a group wiki and let the wiki user choose the template as they create a new page.
I want to have an overall theme for the group wiki, but also have pre-built pages that the user can choose, for instance on page will be for clients supplying a brief to us, so the new page will need to be formatted to show all the relevant information we require, but then other pages will need to be blank as they will be used for project discussions, I did think of making a dedicated "brief" wiki, but this would mean all our clients would see each others briefs, not a good idea.
    Any ideas?

You may be able to implement this in JavaScript. The New Page dialog is generated by JavaScript and, by overriding it in a theme, you should be able to add a popup or checkbox to that dialog which adds content to the new page. This would require JavaScript knowledge. There's no support for this in the UI for version 1 of the wiki server.

  • Missing wiki templates?

I've been trying to implement custom CSS templates for the Mac OS X server.
And I've read around the forum.
    1) I've tried removing the comment from the wireframe template, yet it still doesn't show up on the list.
    2) Many users talk about templates in /usr/share/wikid/lib/apple_templates . but that directory doesn't exist on our server mac.
    Any help is appreciated.

Hi Earl. I think you are mixing up our terminology for XSL "templates" and CSS "themes." If you just need to customize some CSS, you shouldn't change any templates. Try this:
    Look in:
    cd /Library/Application\ Support/Apple/WikiServer/Themes/
There is a directory for each theme. You can create your own themes here, or create copies of an existing theme directory. For example:
    sudo ditto -r float.green.banner.wikitheme/ mytheme.wikitheme
    sudo ditto wireframe.wikitheme/theme.plist mytheme.wikitheme/
Then edit the theme.plist file copied from the wireframe theme.
    1. Change the displayName from "Wireframe Theme" to "My Custom Theme".
    2. Change the name from "com.apple.wireframe" to your own unique ID.
    3. Change the "selectable" key to true (or remove the key/value pair).
    5. Save the file.
Restart the teams server and you should have your own theme to modify at will. Log in to your group as an admin, and change the theme to "My Custom Theme" on the group settings page.
This theme directory is where you would add additional CSS files, JavaScript files, or even custom XSLT if you're feeling frisky. You need to restart the teams server if you add new files, but once the files exist, changes to them should show up automatically.

  • Wiki facelift

i was thinking of updating the wiki main page to be a bit more user friendly (something like http://gentoo-wiki.com/ ), but it seems we have a much simpler wiki templates. is there a way of changing them to be more optional/robust?

  • How to get the Wiki search functionality working?

    hi,
Another Wiki question regarding the 7.1u1 Portal wiki functionality: What is necessary to get the wiki search functionality working? Right now when using the wiki search page all it does is return to the search form, no errors but no hits either. I guess some additional administrative work is needed to get search working?
    thanks, tom

haven't touched anything except for the wiki template jsps to change the design. it is a linux rh4 install. there are no communities on that server (yet), just the wiki portlet in a tab so far. is the wiki search dependent on the portal search server or totally separate (ie self contained wiki search)? any additional services or such that need to be started for it to work?

  • Use a Custom Page Layout When Creating [[new pages]] in Enterprise Wiki

I have followed a few different blogs and I've been able to create a custom wiki content type and create a new page layout based off of that content type. I've also set my site so that my new layout is the default page layout. This works when creating
new pages on the site but when i try to create a new wiki page --> [[new page]], I'm still getting the typical blank wiki template. How on earth do i get my page layout to sync with creating a new wiki page?

    Hi,
For your issue, go to Site Actions > Site Settings > Page layouts and site templates (Under Look and Feel).
Pages in this site can only use the following layouts: add custom wiki template.
Select default page layout: choose custom wiki template.

  • How to uncheck "Add as a new version to existing files" inside the "Add a document" dialog

I am working on a publishing site collection using the enterprise wiki template. Currently when users want to insert an image inside the rich text editor, they will be prompted with the following:-

  • Convert a Microsoft Word document to a publishing wikipage

I have added a site collection of type Publishing site using the Enterprise Wiki template. now i have many word documents that contains the following contents; table of content, numbering, images, etc. Currently i want to copy a whole word document inside
the wiki page's rich content editor, but if i simply open the word document, copy its content, past the content inside the rich text i will loose the following:-
    1. images.
    2. numbering sequence.
    3. table of content will not refer to the correct section.
so my question is whether there is a way to convert a word document to a wiki page , without loosing any of the word document contents?
    Thanks

There is no easy way to convert word documents directly to a wiki page in SharePoint.  SharePoint 2013 is better at handling cut and paste from a word document to a Wiki page while maintaining formatting.  But images will need to be uploaded and
re-inserted separately and links from things like a TOC will also need to be rebuilt.  Here's a BLog post that discusses some of the problems and suggests an alternate solution.
    http://sharepoint-revolution.blogspot.com/2013/07/copy-word-documents-including-images.html
There are also third party tools that automate the process.  For example this one:
    http://www.kaboodlekonnect.com/Pages/Word-to-Wiki.aspx
    Paul Stork SharePoint Server MVP
Principal Architect: Blue Chip Consulting Group
    Blog: http://dontpapanic.com/blog
    Twitter: Follow @pstork
Please remember to mark your question as "answered" if this solves your problem.
the first option requires many steps ,, but the third party tool seems promising. but I have some questions about the tool (if you used the tool before):-
    1. i have some mandatory managed metadata fields such as wiki category, etc. so will i be able to convert a word document to a wiki page , even if i need to fill some mandatory fields?
    2. will this tool automatically build a table of content that reference the correct section within the wiki pages?
    3. can i download a trial version of this tool ?

  • Displaying podcasts with a better looking player?

With Podcast Producer 2, the podcasts that are posted to user blogs appear with the same rather plain quicktime player interface that has been around forever. Even videos on Apple's own website are presented in a nicer player. I can't figure out why Apple didn't provide a nicer player for podcasts in this release. Has anyone installed a custom SWF in the templates for the Wiki Server, and if so, could they provide some clues as to where to get started?
Interestingly, Safari seems to have a nice player built-in, much nicer than the player provided the Wiki templates. When I look at the podcasts from the RSS feed in Safari, a nice charcoal-themed player with time remaining and generous-sized search bar appears. But look at the same podcast as posted on a page, and the same tired quicktime player controls appear (the same look that has been around since the OS 8. Can't we do better than this, Apple? C'mon, if you can do it on your site, you can build it into your Server product.

One player that I have used is DashPlayer from www.tmtdigital.com. This player will playback the m4v files PP2 produces just fine (as will the more popular JW FLV player from www.longtailvideo.com). But there are a couple of issues that are making using such a flash-based player difficult in SL PP2/Wiki Server:
    (1) Embedding any player requires passing the urls of the m4v files (and corresponding png thumbnails). I've yet to discover a reliable way to do so (other than hand coding them). Since I post about 100 videos a week, I need a way to pass these parameters somewhere in the workflow. Making changes to the _podcast.html file in the WikiTemplates folder doesn't seem to work, nor does copying the templates to a custom theme folder.
    (2) I could pass the necessary urls through an RSS feed; Dashplayer will grab videos/thumbnails from a standard RSS feed (such as a YouTube feed). However, the RSS feeds produced by SL PP2/Wiki Server do not seem to work with Dashplayer. Don't know why the player would take YouTube feeds but not ones from SL PP2/Wiki server, but for what it's worth, they also don't seem to validate at the various online feed validator services. Even the "subscribe in iTunes link" doesn't work; iTunes reports there are no media files in the feed, even though there are plenty.

  • Is there an avilable Fix for the Managed metadata navigation Bug in sharePoint 2013

    Hi john,
For this issue, I can reproduce it in my test team site, I haven’t seen the CU update includes this issue.
So, I would suggest you to use the workaround, set a friendly url for the subsite in the term store management settings page as described in the blog.
