Will Leopard run games designed for OS 7?

Hi:
This is my 1st Mac but, many of you have had Macs for many years.
A friend sent me a game (“The Beast Within”) © 1995.  I believe Mac OS 7 was the OS back then. Among the system requirements listed on the game are: “System 7”,obviously OS X exceeds all the other requirements. Says: “Compatible with Power Macintosh.”
So, will it work?
Any downside to attempting to install & try it? If it doesn't work or is broken can I still just drag the app to the trash?  I know I can do that with current Mac programs but not sure about 13 year old programs
Thanks!

The short answer is no, you cannot run a Mac OS 7 application in Mac OS 10.5.
The longer answer is:
Starting with Mac OS 10.0 (aka "Cheetah") Apple offered support for pre-OS X applications using what is known as "Classic", a layer that provided a runtime environment for the older applications.
Classic support was dropped with the Mac OS 10.5, aka "Leopard", which is the current Mac OS as of October 2007. So, you won't be able to run "The Beast Within" on the current Mac OS X.
However, Mac OS 10.4 (aka "Tiger") and earlier have Classic support and might be able to run the Mac OS 7 program, depending on what the program's needs are. There's no way to tell until you try it out.
Your current specs read OS X v. 10.5.3. There is little chance of something bad happening if you try to install/run the program in question, but if memory serves, programs from that era (especially games) relied on installer applications. If "The Beast Within" (I remember that film!) requires such an installer, chances are high you won't even be able to run the installer in the first place.
Hope this helps.

  • Running programs designed for 10g Ex on 11g Ex

I am one of those individuals who over the last couple years has been frustrated because of Oracle 10g will not run on 64bit Windows. I use a Oracle 10g Ex based program that was developed by a third party. It runs successfully on a ADM 64 bit system that runs Windows XP (not 64 bit Windows). All attempts to get it to run on Windows Vista or Windows 7 64 bit have failed. I seen on a separate post that the final version of 11g Ex is expected to run on 64 bit. Does that mean that any program that could used 10g Ex can now use 11g Ex.

Basically, I'd say yes. Some things changed a little bit from 10g to 11g, e.g. the case sensitive password handling, some parameters, etc., so there might be a few points to reconfigure in your applications... You might get a more precise answer if you outline which database features your applications use right now.

  • Will Leopard Run on my Core Duo Macbook?

Will my 1.83ghz core duo macbook run leopard flawlessly? I have 1.5gb of ram and an 80gb HD

    Hi Dafoo,
I cannot say it for sure since 10.5.x is not released yet and only apple insider that might already try it on original macbook.
But based on my experience upgrade from 8 to 9 to os X 10.1, up to 10.4, apple os will backward compatible several version or product line before.
And considering yours is still the active product line version 1 of 2, good chance your macbook will run 10.5.x flawlessly too.
    Good Luck.
ps: check this link, all demo runs on white macbook:

  • Leopard run at all on G3 iBook?

Recommended processor aside, will Leopard run at all on G3 iBook?

I can not get my G3 iBook to run Leopard. I started it in target mode and did an install. When it started to book I got the grey screen and spinning wheel. I let it set for over an hour, nothing. Next I started a good install in target mode then had my g3 use it as the boot drive. Same thing.
If anyone can get it to work let us know what it took.

Hello, I am new please don't be harsh.
I got my Homehub, then a BT Infinity (Thing) a few months after.
Please keep in mind; I know nothing on what to do. Just a faint Idea.
I need to know how to actually portforward.

Follow these steps to port forward minecraft

  • Design for mobile devices

Hi all, first time here, please be gentle with me!
So, I've got a site I designed and maintain for a client and
he recently had an enquiry asking if the thing could be viewed on
an O2 PDA (UK mobile phone company branded PDA). He, of course,
asked me, and I said I'll find out.
Currently I doubt the site will work - it's designed for the
web, needs (mostly) a mouse to navigate and is 800px wide so I
can't see any way it'd work on a phone! So I'm guessing I'd need to
do a WML version ... right? Or is there an easy way to make an XML
    site work on mobile devices?
Secondly would mobile devices work with the PHP script that
handles a members only area and subscription packages? Currently 3
pages of the site are protected using PHPGuardDog (soon to be
replaced) which manages user accounts and links them to PayPal
subscriptions. So to get to those pages a user has to have an
active, paid up, account and then enter their username and
password. Would that work on a mobile device?
Thanks - and if these are dumb questions, sorry, I'll go
    hide!

  • What are you doing with software (games) designed to run on Snow Leopard.  Have you heard of anyone making a patch for LION?

What are you doing with software (games) designed to run on Snow Leopard when the Os is Lion?

It is up to the publishers of games to accommodate their software to Lion.
Blizzard, publisher of StarCraft, WarCraft, and Diablo, has posted a statement about that -
    Blizzard Support
Although they were able to create patches to allow the use of their (OS 9) games in OS X up through Snow Leopard, apparently from their perspective it is not possible to patch those games for Lion.

  • I am trying to run my registered CS6 Design Standard programs for the first time after install. InDesign runs OK, but Illustrator and Photoshop will only run in trail mode. How do I activate those two?

I can't get my registered versions of CS6 Photoshop and Illustrator to run in full mode. I installed CS6 Design Standard online end of June (an upgrade from CS5.5), on my old MacBook Pro. I didn't run the programs then as I was waiting on arrival of new MacBook Pro. I migrated the programs from my old MacBook to the new, and today tried to run those programs for the first time. InDesign work OK (after an initial hiccup) but Illustrator and Photoshop will only run in trial mode, and won't let me save files. My CS6 Design Standard shows with it's registration in my Adobe Account. All seems in order, but Illustrator and Photoshop won't run in registered mode. Can you please help?

Demons1 in the future please only migrate your documents and settings.
Please use the uninstallers to remove your current installation.  They are located in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder.  Once the uninstall is complete you will also want to run the CC Cleaner Tool.  You can find more details at Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html.
If you need to download a fresh copy of the installation files for Creative Suite 6 you can do so at Download CS6 products.

  • I have a Novatel U998 Turbo Stick that will not run on Lion because it is designed for 32 bit. HELP

I have a Novatel U998 Turbo Stick that will not run on Lion. Can Lion be run as 32 bit? If so - how??

Lion includes a hybrid Kernel, as well 32bit and 64bit core OS. By default it will boot the 64bit part.
press 3+2  keyboard combo on bootup. This forces 32bit mode for the Kernel ( the apps are still 64bit default ). 6+4 will force 64bit mode.
The 32bit Kernel can load 32bit drivers ( kernel extensions = *.kext files in /system/library/extensions ).
The 64bit Kernel will not load any 32bit drivers
if a Application makes problems in its native 64bit mode, you can force it to run in 32bit compatibility mode by revealing it in Finder, "get-info" on the Apps Icon and checkmark "run in 32bit mode".
No matter which kernel is booted, 32 or 64 Lion can always execute 32 and 64bit apps.

  • Beta 4 ver 6 installed on Mac Snow Leopard 10.6.4 will not run, will not delete, cannot reinstall any other version of mozilla, also mozilla help is useless and too confusing, is there not just a simple email address to ask for help?

Firefox tries to run, mac says name too long. It will run only when mounted but will not run from Applications. It refuses to delete and stays in trash, must use combinations of DropNuke2 and Trash to get it to delete I think! Then when trying to put any other version of Firefox in Applications, Finder states name already exists then refuses to move the Firefox application to APplications! Never had problems with Firefox until installed the stupid beta 4 ver 6!

It turns out that there's something wrong about permissions.
    Here's the fix:
    (1) log in as the +root user+
    (2) type +chown -R Michael:staff ~Michael+
    (3) log out the +root user+
    (4) log in your account
    (5) done!
Hope this thread will help those who encounter the same problem as me!

  • Will internet recovery work on my mid 2010 MBP with yosemite and the firmare internet recovoery update designed for OS lion

will internet recovery work on my mid 2010 MBP with yosemite and the firmare internet recovery update designed for OS lion

Yes, it does. The point is can your computer use full Internet Recovery with the firmware update or not. If not then you have to begin with the Snow Leopard DVD that came with your computer and do an Erase and Install.
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
However, if you can use full Internet Recovery:
Install Yosemite, Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • Firefox will not run after System restore or running in compatibility mode for windows 98. How do I fix this? I already tried all other solutions on this site.

I was running Firefox fine just yesterday. I screwed up the registry a litle while removing an installed program completely, so I restored the system and everything appeared to work fine. I then decided to play an old video game, Return to Krondor, which was made back in 1998, so I ran the program with no other programs running in compatibility for windows 98. After finishing the game, I closed it and put the computer in hibernation mode. I come back today and firefox will not run at all. It is not running in the background and there are no programs running. There are no services running which could interfere with it. I think somehow Firefox may think I'm in compatibility mode still, but I have no idea.
I'm running windows Vista 32 - bit with an AMD 2.4ghz processor, 4gb ram on an Emachine computer. I have already tried system restore, restart, processes etc. Nothing works. I can still run Internet explorer and all other programs.

The person that I was assisting, has Windows 7 which has 64 bit system. Her browser was IE 10.
Was IE11 ever offered (or installed) via Windows Update?
Is her computer currently fully-patched at Windows Update?
Is Adobe Shockwave Player v12.1 (or higher) installed on her computer?
Is Adobe Flash Player v15.0.0.189 (or higher) installed on her computer?
