Leopard run at all on G3 iBook?
Recommended processor aside, will Leopard run at all on G3 iBook?
I can not get my G3 iBook to run Leopard. I started it in target mode and did an install. When it started to book I got the grey screen and spinning wheel. I let it set for over an hour, nothing. Next I started a good install in target mode then had my g3 use it as the boot drive. Same thing.
If anyone can get it to work let us know what it took.

I think Communities support is great. I used to frequent Communities, but that was quite a while back now, but I find it as good now as ever.
On the topic of iBook and Leopard, the computer we were discussing re discussing changing the name of the Home folder, that was and is an iBook G4, (2005/6). It came to me when I bought it running Leopard and from what I gathered from the seller was that the "discs" had been lost and they were OS X 10.5.x discs. I guess I took it for granted that they came with the computer when he bought it new.
The previous owner no doubt purchased "upgrade" discs to run Leopard.
The big issue is can iBook run Leopard? The answer is yes if the iBook is a G4 2005. The G4 2004 won't do.

By the way Ronda, I stand corrected, you are right (dare I say as always?), the iBook G4 came pre-installed with Tiger not Leopard, namely: Mac OS X 10.4.2 (8D37).
I understand, however, the purchaser would be told right then on the spot that she or he could get Leopard install discs for that particular iBook G4 2005, if they so wished. If you bought online and wanted an upgrade they would upgrade the OS, memory, whatever. But the standard pre install (as opposed to customized) is as you have so correctly stated.

A few problems with Leopard running on my White iMac...
I have only found 2 problems so far with Leopard running on my iMac. First off, the most annoying one:
Sometimes, especially when switching users, the screen turns to the "gray screen of death." You know, the one with the request to restart your computer in like 4 languages and a huge picture of a power button... anyway, it is getting quite annoying and I wish I could make it stop. It has also happened when I have been dealing with moving large amounts of data, "large pictures, movies, etc.)
And now, the second problem. I was just looking up the memory left on my hard drive when I noticed something I hadn't before. my 160gb hard drive had 50gb left. not too strange there. but when I checked through all the things (apps, users, system, library, developer, etc.) in it (I simply did apple-i and checked the gb each of them took up) and after a quick add-up on my calculator widget, all the things in the hard drive added up to 50gb. so I have 50gb free, 50gb used and a 160gb hard drive. How does that work? Do I need to do something to get that extra 60gb back or is it just gone???STEVE!!! wrote:

Good advice. IMO, the 'du' (disk usage) command is safe, because it's
'read only' -- but I undestand that you'd be hesitant to trust your data

You can run the same command without the 'sudo' prefix. It might
miss a few things and/or spit some 'permission denied' messages,
but the results will at least be a lower-bound of disk usage.

i'm trying to install mac OS X leopard 10.5 version on my ibook and it's not mounting on the desk top...it tries to read the DVD disc for 2-4 seconds then spits it out.
My Mac machine is described as follows:
1) machine name: iBook G4

apparently this mac OS X leopard disc is a DVD dual layer format and my drive reads only DVD single layer DVD's....is this in fact true?

Leopard runs like a snail and broken legs
Is this new Leopard supposed to make things faster and easier right? I have problem with this version on a BRAND NEW iMac bought last Saturday and slow. This morning it took my system 5 minutes to boot up. It happened to my older iMac g% which i thought maybe it's older iMac. It's not, it happens to my NEW iMac too.. What is going on? Sometime the system just hang during booting..i have to force and actually unplug the power cord to have it turn off. I install Photoshop Elements 4.0 and also hang and it works like snail, worse than Photoshop CS3. Can i get both my machines back to Tiger without having to completely reinstall?

Can we assume that the machine specs listed in your (current) profile are those of the machine in question?
If so, things are right on the edge of usability for Leopard. My wife's G4 iBook has a 1.25 GHz processor, and I would consider Leopard's performance there at the lowest end of acceptable. Drop that processor speed to 1 GHz, and I think I would go nuts.
Your machine does have at least one advantage, however. First, it will be using a faster drive, on a faster bus. That helps. Perhaps more important, its RAM can be upgraded beyond the capabilities inherent in the iBook (I think). This will be the area to concentrate your efforts.
An "Erase and Install" might help things, but you really should focus on upgrading the RAM as far as you can. 1.25 GBs of RAM is simply not enough for Leopard! While it might suffice for the OS itself, any applications that you run will be squeezed almost beyond usability, as you have found. If possible, install at least 2 GBs of RAM (probably the maximum for this machine). This will provide enough physical memory for both Leopard and the majority of applications you might run, and it will leave a bit extra for a cache of "Inactive" memory. This category of memory use will greatly speed the launching and response of applications that have already been run since the last start/restart.

Eons ago, when I took the Labview I & II courses, I remember the instructor stating that correct VI's had to have error line. I downloaded this VI example from Futek's website and the code doesn't use it. I am trying to utilize it for some data collection rather than have to pay for their software that goes with the sensor. When I first try to run the VI I get an error, and if I replace the formula they use, then undo the replacement it appears to work. The engineer that I am trying to help out is basically wanting to be able to read and also write a file during test, and I am running into all sorts of problems.
If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it.

You'd use the ReportEngine (REBean) SDK to read the LOV values, then use the Enterprise SDK to schedule.

Hi All,

Oracle 8.1.7 on RH7.0 Installed fine now wont run at all!
I was able to install Oracle 8.1.7 on RH 7.0 using this fix... http://ftp.valinux.com/pub/support/hjl/glibc/sdk/2.1/README.Oracle8i
The database initialized correctly and I was able to setup and connect to the database. I even ran a port scanner and checked memmory...the thing was running! Then after the reboot the database wont run at all. When I type ./oracle it trys to load and then shows "Segmentation fault (core dumped)". When I try ./oracle start nothing is echoed. I tried to copy the lib files

The Elements 12 Mac disk works fine - I also have a Dell, and the Windows disk will not run at all, sounds like it's grinding, and is almost impossible to remove from the hard drive. I cannot find any place to tell me who to CALL to ask for a replacement!

You can use a download instead of the disk as an alternative: Adobe - Download free trial version Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 | Adobe you can license with your serial
Please test the disk in another windows machine to check if it's caused by the drive or the disk. If you tested with 2 drives please start a support case, i assume Adobe will only provide downloads at this point. They are the same as the trials. If you still need a disk you can burn the trial to a disk as a backup disk. Good luck! -
Cannot get java window to run at all.
I'm using 1.4.2, and cannot get any java to run at all. It's on a Windows 2000 server, and I've rebooted it a few times. Can't even get the Java Applet window to open from the control panel. javaw.exe runs in the task manager, but that's it. Any ideas? Anything else I need?
That's the Java Control Panel you can't open.
Try uninstalling ALL Java versions, rebooting after each uninstall, and manually removing any directories that Java made after all are removed. Reboot again, then download a new offline Java installer file and install that. There's something in the machine that's bad. -

I downloaded IOS6 earlier today and my 4S has died twice, it has gone from 45 to 32% in the last 5 minutes and i have icloud, internet, all apps closed with nothing running at all!! There is a serious problem with ios6, my phone was working hot at chargering time. Apple need to address this asap!!!!

I can send and receive calls.
I get "messaging stopped" when doing a lot of texts.
Texts come up "ghosted" meaning they have the text on the bottom and a transparent one overlaid on top. they then become one. But I get the ghosting most of the time when I go into a message from a contact to send a text.
When I go to call logs or text logs, the numbers come up first, and then then the names pop up randomly, meaning not in order down the page, until they are all shown. lots of lag time.
It runs slow.
I have 5 apps on here. I should be able to have a lot of apps on here, and play music, and have files, and...and....and.
I can get online but doing a Google search, when the page with the choices comes up, it is blurred and I have to tap on the screen for it to become clear and readable.
When online and scrolling, it hitches sometimes/lags/gets stuck then unstuck
I get VZWAVS has stopped. (not sure if those are the right letters)
The status bar that is supposed to be gray with the new update, goes back and forth between green--the old os--to gray. And I have found no continuity with when I get green or when I get gray.
I get a black screen on occasion.
sometimes the proximity sensor doesn't work.
sometimes when I have my bluetooth on and have "hands free mode" on, I get the a text message read through the headset and also through the handset.

Ive got a g5 mac, but currently for the odd month, no screen in my current location.
Im being given my dads old ibook G4. Is it possible to run my G5 through the ibook and use it like a monitor?
This aside, i also have a old cinema display lying around. What's the best ADC (female) to DVI (male) adaptor i can use to connect the two.
In truth id rather use the ibook if there's a way, as it will save the odd penny.

JYou can't use the iBook directly, as it has no "video in" port. However, in theory, you could set up VNC (network control) and use ScreenRecycler. However, you do have to install the app first, which requires ... a real screen.
So you could set this up using the ADC display and then, once it's working, keep the G5 headless and control it through the iBook. As to an adaptor, if the display is ADC and your G5 has only DVI, there's an Apple adaptor for about $100. If it's the other way around, the adaptors are a lot cheaper - try newegg.com.
