Will Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 work on my iMac with Mountain Lion OS?

Help!  I have downloaded Mountain Lion (10.8.4) on my iMac. Now I can't open or use files that contained labels I made with Microsoft Office for Mac 2004 because Mountain Lion does not support Power PC and Microsoft Excel.  If I purchase and download Office for Mac 2011, will it allow me to continue using these label files?  If not, how can I get a database for my iMac that will enable me to create labels and catalogues?

Thanks, Niel.  I'm glad to know purchasing the Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 will enable me to retrieve and use my "ancient" database label files.  I did try to get OpenOffice, but my computer says "'OpenOffice' can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer" and my "security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers."  How can I do this?  I really don't know about the inner workings of my computer!

Is Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 [Word, Excel, Powerpoint] compatible with Yosemite?

I'm using Excel, Word and Outlook for Mac 2011 in Yosemite without any issues.  I can't speak for Powerpoint, as I've never opened it.  I'm not a power user in Office, so I doubt I've really exercised it.  But so far, Word editing and some simple Excel spreadsheets I use for inventory tracking have worked with no problem.

  • Getting Outlook (for Mac 2011) contacts to iPhone 4S with Mountain Lion installed

I installed Mountain Lion only to find out I can no longer get contacts to my iPhone. ML doesn't support Sync Services so I can't go through Mac's Address Book. I can't get Outlook contacts directly to iCloud. For some reason I can't even do it through iTunes either (with all iCloud disabled). Now I have a phone with NO contacts on it!

Install the latest Service Pack for Outlook.  Then go into Outlook under Tools and Sync Services and put in a checkmark for Contacts.  This will sync your contacts from Outlook into the Address Book.  Once that happens, iTunes (latest version) can sync that info over to your phone if you pick sync contacts in iTunes.
This is how I did it.  I can sync everything except Notes this way.  Apple ***** a little bit in this regard.

Microsoft Office 2004 will not work on any Mac running Lion or Mountain Lion. You will need to upgrade to Office 2011, buy the less expensive iWork apps from the App Store or use a free office clone like OpenOffice or NeoOffice.

  • Installing Microsoft Office for Mac 2011

I have a Macbook Pro 5.3 Boot ROM Version MBP53.00AC.B03 with SMC Version 1.48f2. The computer will not read the software for installing Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 (Home and Student). An alert blocks installing of the Firmware 1.7 Update. Mac Support said the problem is the Microsoft software. Microsoft said the problem is the Macbook Pro. Does anyone know how to resolve the problem so the Office 2011 can be installed?

An alert blocks installing of the Firmware 1.7 Update
Firmware updates and Office 2011 are unrelated and have nothing to do with each other.
If the firmware won't install, then post your question in the OS X forums.

I'm trying to install Microsoft Office for Mac 2011. Halfway through the installation, the MacBook Air tells me that I must close Safari for the installation to continue. As far as I can tell, Safari IS closed. I can't discover any process that will close it any more than it is now. Installer won't let me shut down or re-start the computer because it (Installer) is still running.
    What am I missing?

The MS installer seems to think Safari is active so try the following...
Right-click on the Safari icon in the Dock and if applicable, select Quit.
    or
Try Utilities > Activity Monitor and look for Safari in the Process Name column.  If present, highlight Safari and then click the Quit Process icon.

I bought Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 Home and Student Family Pack (3 users / 3 macs).
If I perform a complete Clean install of Mac OS X snow leopard, then install microsoft office for mac afterwards, will this waste one of my licences. (So then there will only be one more installation left)?

no, it will not waste a license.  I have the same MS Office version on my mac.

Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 no longer syncs contacts and calendars through iTunes after upgrading to Yosemite. It worked fine until I made the mistake of upgrading. Help!?

Please describe the problem in as much relevant detail as possible. The "etrecheck" fad hasn't made that step any less necessary. The usual results of posting etrecheck output on this site without a full description of the problem are very poor.
The many "failed" or "killed" warnings that etrecheck sometimes spews are not a reason to reinstall the OS.
The better your description of the problem, the better the chance of a solution.
For example, if the computer is slow, which specific actions are slow? Is it slow all the time, or only sometimes? What other changes did you make, if any, just before it became slow? Have you seen any alerts or error messages? Have you done anything to try to fix it? Most importantly, do you have a current backup of all data? If the answer to the last question is "no," back up now. Ask if you need guidance. Do nothing else until you have a backup.

  • Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 Standard Issue

The first time a user loads Office for Mac it runs the first time launch which creates that users preference files so unless you run it for each user then they will receive those prompts. As for the DB issue I would probably run a permission repair on the startup disk as well as ensure that you run Office updates for each user (I have seen a few installs that require an update run for each user for whatever reason).

AfternoonWe are in the process of upgrading our iMac and in doing sowant to make use of Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 Standard (Volume License). Our iMac’s arejoined to a Windows domain, therefore several users will be using them daily. Our iMac’s are currently running Yosemite 10.10.4, and Office2011 has had all its available updates applied. However every time we logon as a different user, Officebehaves as if it has been run for the first time. Users are prompted for name, organization, updates, CIP etc…In addition, after the user has gone through the above steps, the user is then greeted by the infamous message that the Office database hasbeen damaged and that it needs to be rebuilt. Users can ignore this message butit’s still an inconvenience. Is there any way we could customise the installation so thatthe end users do not receive these...

  • I am trying to use Microsoft Office for Mac 2011

I am trying to use Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 as my daughters school uses it (on PC's). However, it won't save any documents. It gives me the message that; it is not a valid file name, check the path to make sure it was typed correctly and select a file from the list of files and folders. All of which I think I have tried and there is just no success. It has just completely lost my daughters homework essay so it is not very popular around here at the moment! Anyone with any ideas for this glitch (?).

Doesn't sound like Office for Mac. In any case post in the Microsoft forums:

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro XI and Microsoft Office for Mac 2011

I do not have Acrobat available in the Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 task bar. (Mac OS 10.8.3)
I have searched, and my understanding is that these two programs are not compatible. Has a plugin or something been developed to do this?
What functionality is missed by not having this?
    Thanks,
    Donna

There's no plugin for the Mac version of Office, but you can still use Acrobat by printing to the PDF Printer to generate a PDF from your Office files.
(PS - you should post Acrobat-related questions in the Acrobat forums, not the Reader ones)

I would like to get data analysis for solving statistic and making graphs, but this function is not in add-in. How should I do? I also set up microsoft office for mac 2011.

Microsoft didn't include that with the 2011 version.
There is a third-party application that substitutes for the add-in: http://www.analystsoft.com/en/products/statplusmac/
They also have a limited, free version.
