Win_Api_Session functions and processes running on a machine

Hi all,
We all know that it is allowed to launch only one synchronous reports from forms on a machine. And instead of displaying the default reports alert message error , I want to display a formal alert because our customers do not like to see the standard alert message. One workaround I found is to use the Win_Api_Session package supplied in the d2kwutil library. We use Forms release 6i with patch 17 and reports release 6i with patch 17. But I do not know exactly what are the values to give for each parameters of the function one_session which returns true if a process is already running on a machine. The documentation of the arguments are the MDI window title, the name of the process, the active boolean flag, the window class, and the raise no_data_found boolean flag.
So if I want to test if reports release 6i , RWRUN60.EXE , is already running , and the title of the reports window previewer is for example "COM_B_R: Previewer" , what should I put for each arguments ?

Its possible, but you cannot bind objects into the registry from a remote machine, due to security restrictions in force in Sun's RMI implementation.

Web server and apex running on same machine - port 8080 possible conflict

Hi Guys,
I have installed Apache Tomcat and currently in the process of installing Oracle 11G in the same machine.
The tomcat is using port 8080 and I understand from other installs, that APEX uses 8080 as well.
Is there way after installing Oracle 11G XE database, to shut down APEX so it doesn't conflict with Tomcat's use of 8080? I have no use for APEX at this point want to shut it down if its possible.
Alternatively, can it be configured to use another port?

You can do either, shut it down or change the port. So sad that you said you "have no use for Apex...". :(
What gateway are you using for Apex? Is it the EPG, OHS or the Apex Listener? If you're using the EPG then there is a whole command structure/API for that. Here are a couple that you can run from a SQLPlus session:
SELECT DBMS_XDB.GETHTTPPORT FROM DUAL;
EXEC DBMS_XDB.SETHTTPPORT(port);
For example:
EXEC DBMS_XDB.SETHTTPPORT(8080);
OR
EXEC DBMS_XDB.SETHTTPPORT(8181);If you're using OHS then you go to your OHS/Apache directory and find the OPM path and issue your shutdown startup commands from there. If it's the Apex Listener with Glassfish then you go to the Glassfish admin console and shutdown your Apex deployment from there. Specifics I'll leave to you.

I can't get the QuoteServer example to work. I am trying to run both server and client on same machine since I only have one machin available at the moment.
I am using win xp behind a firewall. Anything that might interfere?
With some System outs I can see that the server is waiting for request but never getting any...

Restarted computer and now it works. Are ports locked up if I get an exception in the 'wrong' place?

Can FCP 7 and 10 run on same machine?

Need FCP for past projects, but for new ones is FCP10 a good thing? Can I install them both and run separately for different projects?

You must install FCP7 first, run all its updates and then install FCPX.

Using MS IIS and Adobe FMS on same machine

Hi Everyone,
I downloaded FMS installed it and tried it and it ran well but I have one problem. After I installing the FMS, my designs with Dreamweaver CS4 will not work when I try my design with IIS. Does any know how to make the IIS and FMS run on one machine? I have used MS IIS server to do my web design and tested them out as well with the same MS IIS sever. If any one knows how to get it right please let me know.

Function module to read the directory list and also run in background

Hi All,
I need to read few files from a folder in the server and upload the data in the file using a BDC. This process has to happen in the background as I am going to schedule the program. I had used the function module "EPS_GET_DIRECTORY_LISTING" to list the file names, it is working properly but when I schedule the program this function module does not work, the jobs gets finished in 0 secs. I am suspecting that it is not running in back ground. Can any one suggest me the function module which runs in background to read the files or an alternate method.

Sorry, this function module is working properly, why I assumed it is not working is that the background job got completed in 0 secs which made me feel that the function module is not working. Also I am subsequently copying the file to another folder and deleting it from the source folder, actually thiese two functionalities are not working in background. which added to my conclusion that all the function modules are not working in background. I am using two methods to copy and delete files, they are
CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES=>FILE_COPY,
CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES=>FILE_DELETE.
as these are not working in background, now I need to replace them with a method or function module which will run in background.
As I have mentioned earlier, my main objective is to upload the data in the file using a bdc. If I am not able to delete the file in the source folder, then duplicate upload will happen which I have to avoid. So, if someone could help me to find a way to delete the file will be of great help to me.

Run a virtual machine under both 7 and Vista?

I have a windows 7 pro computer that is set up as a dual-boot with the OEM copy of Vista home premium.
How do I use XP mode in Windows 7 professional,
and also share another virtual machine running an image of an old Windows 98 system with the Vista OS without duplicating the 40gb virtual hard drive?
I'd like to be able to use that virtual machine in both operating systems without having to convert it back and forth, or mess with the "virtual machine editions" every time.
Is this possible? I get a message that Virtual PC 2007 is incompatible with Windows 7, but it is all I have to run in Vista. Both host operating systems are 64 bit.

So, you want Windows 7 run XP mode and run this Windows Virtual PC 2007 at your Vista? so you can run old Windows 98 on your Vista
for me, this is complicated process, what I suggest here, you upgrade your Windows 7 version (if need to be upgraded), installed latest version Windows Virtual PC version, and make Windows Vista and other OS as guest

I also bit confused regarding this, "Virtual applications are not supported on Windows Vista Business or on Windows 7 Professional or on Windows 7 Professional(SP1). All other features of Windows Virtual PC are supported on these two guest systems."
You also have another option like install 3rd party Virtual application software, like Virtual box or VMware

Function will not run (and shows with red cross in SQL Developer)

I have created the function below by typing into the "Enter SQL Statement" box in the SQL Developer tool and running. I see the message "create or REPLACE FUNCTION Statement Processed". I see the Function in the tree view, but it has a red cross icon next to it, so I guess somethings wrong with it. When I try to run it I get the message "The selected program is in an invalid state for running. Recompile the program and try again." If I right-click the function and compile then I get no errors but the red cross remains and I still can't run it.
What am I doing wrong?
Also, I am planning on supplying a SQL script to customers that will have this function at the top of the script, and then I will use the function throughout the rest of the script to decide whether or not to drop a table before re-creating it. Will that be ok? i.e. will the function be available to the rest of the script, or would the function creation need to be followed by a commit/grant/other?

Hello Try the same at sqlplus and see how it goes. It should not throw any error messages as I tried the same as a normal user Scott with only (connect, resource) priveleges. You dont have to grant any specific previleges for user_tables.

Do you have backups of all the data on the startup drive? If not, do nothing else until you've backed up that data, if you still can.

Can I partition a 1tb hard drive and also run time machine on that hard drive

I have a 1TB external hard drive which s currently running for Time machine only.
I was hoping to be able to partition the EHD so that 500GB would be for the Time Machine side and the other 500GB would be used as an ecternal storage [ a friend of mine has just lent me a 250gb hard drive with a load of tv series which i want to be able to copy].
Can anyone tell me if this is possible and if so how do i do it.
I know that Time Machine is running now but I don't mind starting all over again.

Yes it is possible, but it is generally not a good idea. That being said, if you decide to use the EHD for another purpose, partitioning it is the best solution. How big is your internal HD? It is recommended for a TM partition to be 2X as large as your internal drive, and it must be at least the size of your internal HD in order to be used.
In order to partition:
1) Connect the EHD
2) Open Disk Utility and select the drive
3) Click the "partition" tab and drag the original partition to its desired size.
4) Click "Apply" to create the secondary partition.
Resizing the TM partition will not erase it.
