Win2000 Performance using PCI-GPIB and 232CV-A

A PCI-GPIB device is being used to communicate with a GPIB232CV-A (IEEE to Serial)converter. A current test setup is operational running WinNT without experience long delays in communication to the serial device. Any ideas why Win2000 should perform differently?

I can't think of any thing that would cause this device to operate faster or slower, by just changing operating systems. It is true that Windows 2000 has a little more over head than NT, but I don't think it would be anything noticable, unless you were maxing out your processor. The GPIB232CV-A should always run the same speed.
You might want to runs some tests in MAX to verify that the PCI-GPIB device resources are setup correctly. Try to run the NI-488.2 Trouble Shooting Wizard.
I hope this helps out.

I am developing an application in VB6 for measurements with Agilent (HP)8510C network Analyser using NI-488.2 and National Instrument PCI-GPIB card. I want to take data for the whole 51 points. In HPBASIC which used to be employed for this purpose it is done using OUTPDATA command and the data is in a 2-dimensional array. How can I do this in VB6 with the hardware above.

Although this is for C++, the basic functionality should be the same. Since OUTPDATA is from a specific instrument driver, your best bet will be comparing it to the instrument drivers mentioned in the previous post.

  • Solaris driver for PCI-GPIB and GPIB/ENET

We have written a Java wrapper to communicate with the Solaris PCI-GPIB driver. Now we need to support the GPIB/ENET device. According to ibconf we are running the following driver (NI-488.2 Sol2 2.2). Is there a driver to support both? Our current wrapper supports the following commands: ibConfig, ibFind, SendIFC, Send & Receive.
    Thanks in advance,
    Paul

    Hey Paul,
Unfortunately, we do not offer a driver that will support the PCI-GPIB and the ENET at the same time. In order to use the ENET you will need to use NI-488.2 Version 1.4 (http://digital.ni.com/softlib.nsf/websearch/67f3a445bc3b87c3862569f2005855d9?opendocument).
We recommend you do not install both of these drivers at the same time, because each driver was designed to run independently and some of the files would be overwritten.
However, the functions will be the same for both drivers, so the code youre developing should be interchangeable. There are a few additional functions the ENET supports, but they are just used to get information about the ENET and do not need to be in your application. The only difference is that you will need to link t
he code to a different library when it is compiled. This information is located inside of the getting started guide.

  • How can i use PCIe 1433 and basler line camera to construct image and pocess it?

hello! every one ,I am new to machine vision.i have two problems to ask.First, how can i use line camera and 1433 to acquire 2-D image?second,if i want to pocess the 1-D signal ,how can i do it ?i expect for your answer ,thank you!

What you are trying to do is not something you can easily do in a forum, but I can give you the basics.
You have a CameraLink frame Grabber (PCIe 1433) and a LineScan Camera
The framegrabber needs to be configured to understand how to communicate with the camera.  You need a file from the camera vendor.  This file might already be installed.  You can use MAX to check if it is, under Devices/IMAQ.
Assuming you can get to the point where you can communicate with the camera, you need to configure your acquisition.
Since the camera is a line scan camera, it captures image data one pixel ine at a time.  You will need to configure the frame grabber to determine how many lines per image you want.  The low limit is usually 1, and the high limit is either based on the framegrabber's internal memory, or that of the computer.
If you are using labview, you will need to open a sessing to the camera, acquire the image(s), and then close the session when you are done.
Once the image(s) are captured, you can performa analysis using the NI Vision Toolkit.
Sorry, but there is no way to condense years into one post.

  • Swapping computers using PCI-GPIB

    Dear Sir/Madam,
I am currently running a 1998 PCI-GPIB card using Labview 6.i on a Windows 2000 machine. I want to transfer this card onto a machine running Labview 7.1 on Windows XP. Your drivers page indicates that this can be done with the NI-488.2 v 2.2 driver.
The Windows 2000 PC has a suite of programs that we may need to fall back on if I fail to develop the applications fast enough on the Windows XP PC. Should we need to, is it possible to plug the card back into the Windows 2000 pc and expect it to work? Or does the driver need to be reinstalled in reinitialise the card.
Thanks as always for your help.
    Paul Donaldson, Imperial College London

    Dear Paul!
Thank you for choosing National Instruments Support!
You can safely use the PCI-GPIB card in the Windows XP system with the 2.2 driver and if it needs to be done, you can plug this card back into the Windows 2000 PC and it should work without you having to reinstall the driver (I am assuming you have driver version 1.7 or 2.2 installed). So please feel free to switch back and forth between the two computers!

  • Is there a difference between the workings of PCI-GPIB and PCMCIA-GPIB?

I wrote an application in LV 7.1 to acquire data from a counter-based laser interferometer system. This application works well (acquires data as expected) when using my laptop (OS WinXP with PCMCIA GPIB card), but does not when using a desktop with a PCI-GPIB card. Both cards are from NI. Both are installed properly. Both see my instrument through address 9 as I expect. I run the same program, but not able to acquire data with the desktop which, again, is equipped with the PCI-GPIB card. Anyone has run into this sort of problem? Everything appears the same, so you would think that my application would work on both computers, but for some reason it does not. Appreciate your help. Thansk much in advan
    ce for your feedback.
    Otman

    Dear Otman,
You may want to check the 488.2 driver versions on your machines; you should be able to use version 2.1 on both. Answers to the following questions may help in offering further suggestions:
    1. Do you get an error message when you run the program on your desktop computer? If so, what error?
    2. Were you able to verify in the Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) that your PCI-GPIB board is properly recognized and can communicate with your instrument?
    3. Are you using VISA functions or GPIB specific functions?
    4. If you are using VISA, what version of NI-VISA are you using? (see note below)
    5. What version of NI-488.2 are you using? (see note below)
Note: You can view your versions of NI-488.2 and NI-VISA in MAX as follows:
    1. Launch MA
X (You can use Start -> Programs -> National Instruments -> Measurement and Automation)
    2. Click the Software tab
    3. Click on NI-488.2 and observe the version number in the center form.
    4. Click on NI-VISA and observe the version number in the center form.
If you are still having problems be sure to get back to us!

  • How can I use a GPIB and AT-MIO-16L with a common NI-DAQ?

I'm using a GPIB card for recording data and a AT-MIO-16L for sending an analog output to my instrument. Earlier, both the devices (GPIB and AT-MIO-16L) were running correctly. Until I reformated my hard disk. Now I'm trying to install NI-DAQ 6.1.1 for AT-MIO-16L but that doesn't detect my GPIB card. On the other hand if I use NI 488.2 along with MAX 1.7 or MAX 2.2, I'm unable to use AT-MIO-16L. Is there a way I could get both my devices running on a common platform?

NI-DAQ is not supposed to detect your GPIB and NI-488 software will not detect your daq board. When you installed MAX, was this from a LabVIEW driver install CD that also put a new version of NI-DAQ on your pc. Open MAX and check your currently installed versions of NI-DAQ and NI-488. They should both be listed. If you have a new version of NI-DAQ than 6.1, you can uninstall the newer version and install 6.1.

  • Issue using PCIe-1430 and Magma ExpressBox1

Hi - I'm trying to get my laptop working with the PCIe-1430 Camera Link frame grabber and the Magma ExpressBox1. The device shows up in the device manager twice, saying the drivers are installed but there are problems with the device. One device shows error code 10 ("This device cannot start."). The other shows error code 12 ("This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use (Code 12)     If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system."
I've tried disabling one and the other PCIe-1430 devices, and I'm not sure what other devices I could try to disable. The computer has 3GB of RAM, so I'd doubt that's the problem. I've noticed that the board is PCIe x4 and the ExpressBox1 interface is x1, but since there is a bridge in between I assumed this would, at the worst, result in a lower maximum transfer rate. The Magma website mentions National Instruments boards in one of their case studies. Any ideas what may be causing this?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I have been looking into this, and everyone I look the ExpressBox1 has only 1 PCI slot and it is x16.  Are you using a different version?  If it is only one PCI slot, then it should not show 2 devices in Windows.  Also how many PCIe-1430's are you trying to use?

  • No list tree of device and interface, software in MAX sytem. using pci 6034E and chasis 2345

Hye, i got the problem about this device.
I using PCI 6034 E which will connect to SCC 2345 to measure current and voltage.
My os is 32 bit Windows XP.
First i install this software, my MAX listed the tree of devices & interface which is PCI 6034 E and chasis 2345, and all download software are listed in tree of software.
By the way, when i start to measure the current, my MAX is working fine.. but, the problem is starting in the next day, wheni try to measure againt, all the list are dissapear. Then i uninstall all the NI component and reinstall again. Thereare a lot of install and reinstall again and again.. By the way the result is still same. Do not have any tree appear..
so, any colution for my problem?
i try to solve this problem, and i read that when the tree of devices and interfaces not appear, it's maybe because we using driver : NI 488.2 , i try to uninstall this driver.. by the way the result is still same...

    sahizansalman,
It looks like the same is happening with the Software list. This is often a sign of a MAX database corruption. I'd try the steps outlined in this knowledgebase:
What is the Process For Removing MAX Database Corruption?
Feel free to post back if this does not work.
By the way, do you know what device is showing up as unknown in the device manager? You did not mention anything besides your PCI DAQ card and SCC 2345, which are showing up fine.

  • How to increase speed of analog read using PCI 6110 and LabView 7.1?

    Hi All,
I'm a fairly novice user of LabView and I'm trying to figure out how to make my system as fast as possible. Basically, I'm reading in an analog signal (AI0) together with a trigger signal (PFI0) and I want to sample the analog signal on the falling edge of the trigger signal. What I'm finding, though, is that the acquisition rate of this system is excessively slow. My analog signals occur faster than 1 kHz, but the speed of my system is only about 100 Hz. A colleague of mine told me that the DAQmx Trigger.vi I was using was probably the culprit for the slow performance I was observing. Could this be right? If so, how could I resolve this issue?
Another thought I had was to input the trigger signal into the external source input of the DAQmx Timing.vi. In this way I'd be using the trigger signal as an external clock. If operated in Continuous mode, then I think the Sample Clock would cause a sample to be read only when the trigger signal changes its state (from high to low). Could this work?
    Thanks for reading,
    Ben

    Hi Marni,
Thank you so much for your post! I tried doing as you suggested, using the Cont Acq&Graph Voltage-Ext Clk-Dig Start.vi and I first set the trigger signal as the external clock source. It works beautifully! Now, with 1.6 kHz signal in, I'm reading in 1.6 kSa/s. This is a dramatic improvement from before. I also tried using the internal clock source option, but it didn't seem to trigger when I wanted it to. I didn't spend too much time debugging it, though, since the other method works so well. This brings up an interesting question. Is the DAQmx Trigger.vi really that slow? Previously, I could read in 100 kSa/s at best using the Trigger VI. Anyways, I'm a happy camper now:-)
By the way, to answer your question about the DAQ device, I'm using the NI PCI 6110 Multifunction DAQ.
    Thanks again!
    Ben

  • To access Kistler Dynamometer Amplifier (4 component) do I need to use PCI 4452 and PCI 1200 ( I have both of them) with DAQ/LAbview.

If yes How to relate them together both in VI and by Hardware.
    Thanks,
    Niraj

    "Thanks for your attention,
I have Dynamometer with four analog outputs to respective amplifier's,all of which I have to connect to NI's BNC 2140, which will be connected to PCI 4452, now I even have PCi 1200 which is also a DAQ card I suppose. I want to know whether I need to connect both of these together in anyway, and ultimatly will they appear on single VI together or seperatly. Like I have developed single VI for both, but Is it possible to Develop VI with access to both.
Also is it necesary to use both, I want to know whether my application will be handled by PCI 4452 alone,
I suppose I am clear this time about my application and things available with me.
please let me know if not,
    Thanking you,

  • Controlling dc motor using PCI-7342 and MID-7652

    Hi,
I am trying to control an electric linear actuator driven by a 24V dc motor (no encoder). The feedback is coming from an integrated analog linear potentiometer (+10v to -10V). I am using the automatic analog feedback vi and created my desired feedback profile. I began with a  Kp value of 9, all other gains set to zero for now. The problem is that there is a constant offset of approx. 8V between the desired profile and the actual feedback from the linear pot. I have ADC 1 configured as -10 V to +10 V. I am not sure if its a wiring problem or there is something that needs to be configured in measurement & automation, axis 1. I am new to motion control so bear with me.
    Thanks

    Hi there,
Where are you measuring this 8V difference? Is it the difference between the servo output of the MID-7652 and the analog feedback input to the 7652 analog input channels?
If you try changing the PID constants in your control loop, does this 8V difference remain the same?

There are 31 (0-30) volume steps and I always set the relative level at step 30, at which my reference is 0dB.
Then the volume will be tuned down one step by one step until step 0 for check its attenuation (dB) at each step.
However, I coundn't find the way to perform the same steps using PCI-4462 and Sound/Vibration Measurement Suite 2011 so far.

  • How to add PCI 7340 and UMI in my labview program from functions palette or how?

Am using PCI 7340 and UMI7764 for motion control of a stepper motor.
How to add the functions for PCI and UMI in my labVIEW program and how
