Window manual resizing issues

Since Yosemite cursor frequently fails to switch (to double arrow) when mouse hovering on window's edges. Resizing actually works with the standard cursor arrow but it's not natural and very annoying. So far I've noticed this with Preview and Chrome.
I'm using a Wacom tablet that produces a whole lot of problems, so it could be related. But this also happens with the Magic Mouse.
Anyone else? Thanks

• Flex 3 Window Resize Issue

Hello all,
I'm a beginning Flex programmer and I've run into an issue I
don't know how to resolve. The problem is this: when my app is
compiled under Flex 2 all of my window components resize nicely
when the browser window is resized (<mx:Application width="100%"
height="100%">). However, when I compile under Flex 3 this
doesn't work; all components stay the same size and I get
scrollbars at the edges of the browser window if I shrink the
browser window.
The backwards compatibility and migration documentation
doesn't say anything about this functionality being changed. Anyone
have any idea why this is happening, and how I can get the older
functionality back?

Setting the scroll policy to off certainly gets rid of the
scrollbars, but it doesn't actually fix the resize behavior of the
application.
I ended up fixing this problem by cheating: I set up a resize
handler for mx:Application that resizes the main Container in the
app.
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="
http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
xmlns:custom="components.*" layout="absolute"
width="100%" height="100%" minWidth="780"
minHeight="580">
<mx:resize>
<![CDATA[
try { bpanel.width = width; bpanel.height = height; }
catch (err:Error) {}
]]>
</mx:resize>
A hack, yes, but at least things work again.

• Windows 10: Open Windows Are Resized When The Lid Is Closed

I have just done the free Windows 10 Pro upgrade. Everything seems to be working fine; except for this issue. Every time I simply close and re-open the laptop lid, the open windows are resized. Most windows get restored to where they started, yet they seem to ALL have been resized and then sized to their previous location. You can tell because minimizing / restoring windows does not remember the actual last size that you used. But some windows DO NOT get resized back where I left them. Chrome in partiular becomes crazy. Sometimes the window becomes maximized; and other times it gets sized to a smaller rectangle at the top left of the screen. You can see all the windows flicker and jump around when you re-open the lid. ... Minor update: I performed another Windows 10 reset: I reset the operating system, keeping User Files. So the system got re-installed. I ran Windows Update until all updates came down. I also ran the Lenovo System Update and installed all updates. Specifically, at this point, I haven't gone looking for additional drivers, such as the graphics drivers --- and on this dual-graphics, there is no control panel for the high performance NVIDIA GPU ... I don't know if that is making any difference. The bug DOES persist; but behaves marginally different at this point ... at least, the open Chrome window no longer resizes; and the Task Manager doesn't move; but other things still jump around, and the open Control Panel window becomes duplicated. Again, this is just by closing and re-opening the laptop lid. The Lid-Closed behavior is set to "Do Nothing"; and the Intel Graphics is set to High Performacen mode. ... So I don't know if they do, but I would not understand why the graphics would switch when the lid closes: they still might. I have another video that captures the behavior. Again: there is no Lid-Closed action, and just closing and re-opening the lid causes the resolution to switch back and forth. YouTube: https://youtu.be/Qapt3ZyOVE4 ... I would like to see this cured, since it is truly a very annoying bug! Your work becomes disrupted simply from closing the lid.

• Red recording window/browser position - issue

Hi there. I'm using Captivate 5. I set my recording resolution to 800 x 600 and deselected the 'snap to' window option for the browser window I want to record. I manually resize the browser so it only captures the screen (leaves out the address window, toolbars, etc.). I record a few screens and then stop the recording. I leave the browser window exactly where it is and sized the same. When I start recording to add more to my presentation, it doesn't snap the browser window (since that's deselected) but instead, the red recording window automatically snaps to the top corner of the browser. This leaves me having to drag the red recording window back to just the portion of the browser I want recorded - again, leaving out the address window, toolbars, etc. The problem with this is that each time I record a few slides, then add more, having to reposition that red recording window will never be exactly the same each time I record. Thus, there are inconsistencies in the recording where the screen shifts slightly due to having to move the recording window constantly. Is there a fix for this? It's not a 'snap to' option, it's just the red recording box automatically resets itself to the top corner of your browser instead of where it left off.

Hi there
When you are choosing the recording options before you record, try enabling Application Region. That should snap the recording rectangle into the area you are referring to.
Cheers... Rick

• Difference between manual resize and repaint, invalidate, validate etc etc?

Using Jdk 1.5 and under windows XP I am drawing directly in a JPanel.
And thus creating a drawing of my own when the system calls:
public void paintComponent(Graphics g) {
Graphics2D g2 = (Graphics2D)g;
Line2D lineInArrow =
new Line2D.Double(. . . );
g2.draw(lineInArrow);
Ellipse2D ellipse = new Ellipse2D.Double(. . . );
g2.draw(ellipse);
The program of course has much more detail but that is the essence of it.
Now, it turns out that my drawings sometimes become rather messed up and needs to be redrawn so I have tried calling. repaint(), invalidate(), validate(), paintImmediately() in many different combinations and several times.
As the system is a more complex than just a JPanel - the JPanel is
contained in a JScrollPane for instance and all is set in a JDialog - I have also tried calling the different parts with these methods and in many different combinations.
Even calling the parts repeatedly from another Thread so that the methods get called every second or so does not help.
NOTHING HAPPENS to the messed up drawing
UNLES I DO A MANUAL RESIZE of the window. Then the drawing becomes OK!!!
Yes, you guessed right, I have also tried resizing from the program
by calls such as:
Dimension currentSize = this.getSize();
this.setSize(100, 100);
this.setSize(currentSize);
repaint();
The window flickers - gets smaller and then gets back to its original size.
But the drawing, if messed up, is still messed up in exactly the same way.
SO WHAT IS HAPPENING WHEN I DO A MANUAL RESIZE BUT NEVER HAPPENS WHEN I DO ANY OF THE ABOVE?
And, can I somehow initiate this - whatever it is - by programming rather than by a manual resizing of the window??

With messed up I simply mean that it is not properly redrawn.
For example a rectangle that should have been drawn is not shown - not drawn. Or a String is not drawn in its proper place.
But when I do a manual resize (using the mouse) things are drawn correctly. Sometimes I have to do more than one resize to get everything drawn correctly.
I might also add that I have tried some other more or less weird strategis to get this "manual resize like painting" activated such as:
Calling the paintComponent method directly:
Graphics g = this.mainDrawPanel.getGraphics();
mainDrawPanel.paintComponent(g);
Trying to make the system understand that something DO have changed:
JButton aDummyButton = new JButton("Hi there - did you see me??");
mainDrawPanel.add(aDummyButton);
this.repaint();
mainDrawPanel.remove(aDummyButton);
this.repaint();
Nothing makes anything happen - except the manual resize of the window.
So what is so special about a manual resize of a window? What actually goes on when this happens? - That does NOT happen in all the other attempts?

• Please help-Trying to compress to Mpeg-2 for Convention, also resizing issues

Hello,
I just recently finished making an AMV in Adobe Premiere 5.5, and I am having trouble trying to figure out how to compress it into an Mpeg-2 source for a competition/convention.
I also have these massive black borders on the side of my video that I know is probably due to improper resizing on my part, and although I have tried to remedy this with a new avisynth script of the exported uncompressed AVI (before compressing to MPEG-2), whenever I try to run the avisynth script in either VirtualDubMod or TMPGEnc (the converting program recommended by: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/mpegforcons/) it crashes, although the original video does work.
This is the avisynth script I have created for the post-video:
FFVideoSource("C:\Users\Freeman\Desktop\Fight the Power.avi")
FFCopyrightInfringement("C:\Users\Freeman\Desktop\Fight the Power.avi")
AssumeFPS("23.976")
SSRC(48000)
LanczosResize(720,352)
AddBorders(0,64,0,64)
per the recommendations from the guide listed below
I do not know if the resizing I have set up in the new avisynth script will fix my resizing issues, and I would like to improve that as much as possible, so if someone could clarify for me, that would be greatly appreciated.
You may also notice some audio issues throughout the video, however on further playback this never appears to happen in the same place. I believe this is caused by poor audio quality, and I have a friend of mine working on setting up a lossless source that I will try to recompress with the video before friday, however if someone else might know what is causing this, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Here is the current MPEG-2 I have, however for obvious reasons, I do not consider it acceptable as of yet:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IIKYWRXF
The original export from Premiere is Microsoft AVI Uncompressed, and then attempted to convert to MPEG-2 (I tried multiple settings, they all have the same sizing issues), and as I said before, no matter what I try to do with the avisynth script, it crashes.
I have even tried taking out every line from the new avisynth script except for the first two detailing the location of the video and audio, however this does nothing, it still crashes.
I had to convert all my original source avisynth scripts to AVI files (that are massive, as I am editing from 52 episodes of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood), and so editing the original scripts is impossible at this point, because to my knowledge, that would mean I would have to reconvert them all to AVI, which took over 16 hours, and then that would probably make me have to re-edit this entire video (which if you look at it, based on length and how much work I've put into it: is impossible, especially given the time constraints).
So anything that I can do to fix this will have to be done to the export from Premiere, unless there is a way to work with the AVI's that I made from the avisynth scripts.
The source is primarily 16:9 DVD (Fullmetal Alchemist) and very few parts from a 4:3 DVD (Naruto). (You can recognize these parts in the video, it is whenever someone is rowing in a boat during the lyrics "Row Row")
The avisynth script for all the fullmetal alchemist DVD's is as follows:
mpeg2source("F:\DVD RIPS\Music Video Rips\Brotherhood\Disc 1 (1-7)\MainMovie\FMA_BROTHERHOOD_P1_D1\FMAB 1-7.d2v", cpu=4)
ConvertToYV12()
Spline36Resize(848,480)
#TTempSmooth()
FastLineDarkenMod()
LSFmod(strength=120)
LUTDeRainbow()
And the avisynth script for the one Naruto DVD is as follows:
mpeg2source("F:\DVD RIPS\Music Video Rips\Random\Row Row\MainMovie\ROW ROW\VTS_01_1.d2v")
TFM()
TDecimate()
Spline36Resize(848,636)
Crop(0,78, 0,-78)
These recommendations came from what I could figure out from:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/avtech31/
If anyone is curious, the song is "Libera me from Hell", and it is 44100 from what I could tell when I ran it in WINAMP (I converted it from mp3 to wav through WINAMP, if there is a better way that I am unaware of, please let me know).
I know this is extremely long, and thank you anyone who has taken their time to look through it, it is greatly appreciated.
The deadline for this is friday (5/20/11), so I need help with this ASAP and thanks,
Dexter

Dexter,
Those "black borders," if they are visible in the Program Monitor, are most likely due to a mis-match between the Source Files and the Sequence Preset.
If they are only showing up upon Export, then there is likely a mis-match between your Sequence and your Export, and could be either with the Aspect Ratio, or if using non-square pixels, the PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio).
I'll defer any commens on AVISynth to the experts here.
Good luck,
Hunt

• When I open a new window in FFox7, how can I make it automatically appear exactly on top of the previous window -- not resized, not shifted, but directly on top?

I used to set Firefox to full screen; but my new monitor is too big to do that. So I sized the Firefox window to the size I want, and I carefully centered it (using a tape measure to get it as close to dead center as possible).
But everytime I open a new window, it appears shifted slightly to the right (I think that's called cascading, but I'm not sure). While some might like this feature, I prefer it open exactly on top of the previous window; and it's a pain to have to shift the new window manually every time I open one.
How do I set Firefox to open new windows right on top of the parent window (and the same size), covering it up completely?
Thanks,
Dafydd abHugh

Well, then isn't there some way to induce Firefox to give Windows parameters that make it open the fershlugginer window in the *same* position, instead of an offset position?

• Pixma ip6000d windows 7 driver issue. How do you get one?

Has anyone solved the windows 7 driver issue? The canon website does not have one yet is reported windows 7 capatable.

Hello ricksterofmi,
The PIXMA iP6000D Drivers are included with the Windows 7 Operating System through Windows Update. Please connect the PIXMA iP6000D to your computer and automatically install the drivers. Once this has been done, visit our website by selecting this LINK to download and install the Add On Module for full compatibility.
I hope this helps.

• Relative Resizing issues

Hi I started with java a few weeks back and I am really getting into using swing to make my problems.
I've got the hang of GUIs for the most part but I've been having difficulty with the TextAreas and the sizing of panels
1) My TextArea problem:
When the user writes into the TextArea and the text becomes wider than the textfield's specified size, the textarea gets wider, rather than the words wrapping onto the next line as I would like. Additionly when the Tab key is pressed, a tab is inserted into the text, rather than the cursor moving to the next text field (as I would like)
2) My panel size problem
I have been using the GridBagLayout for the layout of my GUIs and it works great except my panels size themselves to the objects inside them, and the objects inside them change size quite often, this means the wondow is constantly resizing itself. Is there any way of making the panels fixed at a certain size?
3) One other thing that came up is can you make a window un-resizable so that users can't maximise and minimise it?
I know these problems seem a bit basic but I have looked around and I think they are just overlooked as "too obvious" by most people!!
Thanks
James

Read the docs, most of this stuff is well commented in the swing API javaDocs.
1) setLineWrap()
2) don't pack() your Frame, instead set it to a size larger enough for your components. That way if the components resize, the frame won't. This is not a clean solution BTW
3) setResizable(), setUndecorated();
have fun using swing to SOLVE your problems

• Windows 7 Firewire Issues with CS5 and ADVC-700

I've got a Windows 7, 64 bit system with CS 5. In dubbing out for playback, I route a firewire cable from the PC to an Canopus/Grass Valley ADVC-700. Both units are less than a year old and are having issues with "black outs" during the dub out process. I've read different things about Windows 7 having issues with firewire drivers. After speaking to someone with Adobe, I've changed my firewire driver to Legacy. That hasn't helped.
The ADVC-700 has s-video out running to preview monitor and BNC out/XLR audio running to my playback system for ingest. When the video goes to black (usually for a 1/2 second), the audio drops out with it.
I've reset the settings on the ADVC-700 with no luck.
Any suggestions on a fix or something else to try?

I did test with a JVC GY-HD200U and there weren't any performance issues which led me back to the PC or other on the PC.
The system is running Windows 7, 64 bit with CS5 Production Premium following an upgrade from the CS4 version.
I've got 12 GB of Ram, (2) Intel Xeon Quad Core E5560 -2.8 GHZ processoCrs.
(1) 500GB SATA2 hard drive, 7200 RPM, 32 MC (System Drive)
(3) 1 TB SATA2 Hard drives, 7200 RPM, 32 MC (3 TB, RAID0 Storage Drive)
Nvidia GeForce 9800GT graphics Card
Supermicro X8DAi motherboard, Intel 5520 Chipset, 2-PCIe X16, 1 PCIe x4, 3-PCI, 10-USB2 ports, 2-pro/1000 NIC, 8-channel HD audio, 6 SATA ports, RAID 0/1/5/10
I've got the legacy drivers for the firewire card. I've checked to make sure all of the power save options are off along with all screen saver options. I've cleaned my Adobe Cache out, deleted my Adobe Preferences, went from the 4pin/6pin cable to a 6pin/6pin cable to feed the ADVC-700 from the PC, reset the ADVC 700 back to factory specs...all of this with no luck.
The problem seems to be worse since the move from CS4 to CS5 but it's hard to tell.
I've also hooked up an older ADVC-500 unit with the same output results.
I think I noted in the first post that this is happening on two indentical systems with the same cabling and programs and the same ADVC-700 boxes.
I've been told by Adobe to clean my C; drive and reload the OS and Adobe CS5 as I should have done that when I upgraded instead of just upgrading the system from CS4 to CS5 using the discs. I haven't done this yet as I have to budget time/workflow to accomodate.

• Files Opened from Windows Explorer Resize Illustrator Window

Windows 7 Enterprise, SP1
Illustrator CS6 16.0.3, 64bit
Over the past weeks, opening any Illustrator file (.ai or .eps) from Windows Explorer resizes the main illustrator window. The window "restores down" from my maximized view that I always run. This does not happen when I use the File > Open command from AI. Using File > Open, the AI window remains maximized and my artwork file opens in a tab (my preference).
It's really just a nuisance, but it's wearing thin now. More frustrating, this behavior only started a few weeks ago (been running CS6 for a few months.)
I found a post describing similar behavior from the CS3/2008 era... The fix is a workaround. Lots of complaints about this historically... with plenty of comments like "I hope they finally fix this is CS4."
http://forums.adobe.com/message/1265916#1265916
How may I fix this behavior without writing a batch file and making Registry edits (per 2008 post)?

This definitely isn't a fix, but is the best work-around I've been able to come up with.
I'm also on Win 7 Enterprise 64-bit using Illustrator 16.0.3 64-bit.
Although Windows/Adobe (I don't know whose fault it is) doesn't maintain the maximized state, it does (for me) seem to remember the last restored down size and window position, so here's what I did:
Restore down the main Illustrator window.
Move the window so that the top left corner is positioned in the top left corner of the screen/desktop.
Resize the window from the bottom-right corner down to the bottom right corner of the screen/desktop.
At this point, it should appear maximized (or very nearly so), even though it actually isn't.
Now (for me at least) when I double-click an AI file from Windows Explorer, the Illustrator window drops out of maximized state to this same nearly maximized state (although technically not maximized).
Hope this works for others.

• Way to stop window from resizing when zooming?

Hi there.
Is there a way to stop the window from resiging when zooming in/out of my Photoshop documents?
What seems to happen to me, like, hundreds of times a day is the window keeps resizing when I zoom in and out and much of it goes behind all my palettes. So I drag the resize handle to shrink the window only to have it resize again the next time I zoom in or out.
I couldn't find a preference for this. When I used to work in Photoshop for WIndows I could have sworn that the window never changed size unless I specifically resized it...
Thanks!

Son-of-a-b....

• No AC Power, Battery not charging, Windows boot up issue

Searched the forums but could not find an answer for my specific problem.
COmputer: L355 - S7905
Windows XP Professional
Issue: installed new motherboard. When on AC power, laptop shows a steady green LED light but will not boot up without the battery installed. Will not stay running when the battery is removed or dies. When plugged into AC power, battery charging light is on but battery continues to lose power; will not charge. Had the computer operating properly initially but noticed the power issue. I ran a chkdsk on one of the subsequent boot ups and now have a "config.sys file missing" error and can not get into windows any longer. I was going to try some of the battery charging suggestions listed on this forum but no longer can get into windows or the recovery council. Last screen attainable says to select "R" to repair system using a Windows disk. Can not get to a DOS prompt.
Status so far:
- Ran volt meter check on power adapter and getting steady 19 volts. Various motherboard checks with a voltmeter are seem normal.
- All LED lights on laptop are indicating the computer is working in a proper state (ie power light on, batt charging light on, HDD light on when in use, etc)
- replacement motherboard is the EXACT same motherboard as the original. Same model - identical.
- Can get passed BIOS screen successfully; can get into boot options screen (Safe Mode options, command prompt, etc) but all options eventually default to an error message I get from the chkdsk program and I can not go any further.
- Laptop did not come with an original Win XP restore disk.
- Battery is a replacement but is the exact same part number as on the Toshiba original battery. Battery seems to be operating perfectly once it is charged (had to go to computer accessory store for charge)
Questions:
- Why is the AC power only not able to run the laptop?? Is it a software issue??
- Once I can get into the windows OS, I presume I should be able to correct the battery not charging issue . . . is that right?? Sounds like it is a software issue from what I have read on the forums. My plan was to reinstall the Windows operating system but I can not do that on battery power alone.
Any suggestions on how to proceed??
Thank you - Paul
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Lawrence - Your suggestion was right on target, the replacement adapter solved my power problem. I would have never believed that to be the problem since the digital voltmeter was indicating the required 19v from the defective adapter, I would obviously NOT have figured this out on my own. Thanks for your time, response and help on this issue, I really appreciate it.
