WIndows 7 64bit, how much ram I need to get Photosgop CS5 flying?

Hi guy,s
I have just transfered over from a 32bit Vista to WIndows 7 64-bit on a dual core 3Ghz, 4Gb RAM.
Just wondering how much extra RAM should I get to get the most/best out of photoshop I am really hoping my files files a bit quicker. allround.
Is it really just a matter of getting as much RAM in there as I can afford?
Any help would e great

We'd have to know something about the kind of images you work on to answer that well.
8 GB actually does quite well for all but the largest (multi-gigabyte) images.

  • Question about how much ram I need to download

Q: How much ram do I need to download premiere pro? I have 4 right now.  Windows 7 is my platform.  I was told I can only upgrade to 6 rams total. Will that be enough?
Basically I tried to download the premiere pro trial and could not, even with the help of tech support.  I was told I needed more Ram.  I have the Adobe cloud on my desktop right now and want to try to premiere pro program.

  • How much ram is needed to make it work the best it can?

i have a g4 and a crappy pc monitor. how much ram can this mac take and how do i get the most out of imovie? thanx a mill!!

i have a g4 … how much ram can this mac take
a G4 swallows up to 1.5GB of RAM...
my experiences: MacOsX under 800MB is no fun...
afaik, iM doesn't profit that much of more'n more RAM,
I think 1GB is a good compromise for your demands&wallet...
a better CPU increases speed dramatically,
G4, G5, dual, quad, Intel... in that order...

  • I am debating how much memory I need to get on my Ipad?  Any thoughts

I am interested in getting an Ipad2 but do not know if I need 16gb or 32gb memory?  Any thoughts?  I would probably have 20 to 30 apps running on the Ipad2.

He was asking a very relevant question, many of us ask when purchasing an ipad.
Your answer is irrelevant and wrong. The question was how much memory do I need for my ipad? not how much ram or is it future proof through upgrade. What you term as storage is flash 'memory' and the other, DDR is indeed RAM. The difference with this application being one is volatile & the other is not. Its obvious he is talking about flash memory so why post for the sake of it?
I used to own ipad 1 64GB/3G device (bad WIFI experience & returned the device). However I initially used it for web browsing, watching catchup TV, books & some apps. As I have other devices for music and films I really didn't benefit from the additional expense.
HD films typically consume ~2GB, single 128 bit song of ~4mins is about 4MB, most books do not comsume a great deal of space. Given films have the greatest impact it largely depends how many films you wish to carry around. Given they can be swapped in/out very easily with itunes its not a big deal. Additionally there are many tools that permit you to lower the film quality to reduce the file size.
Having some idea of file sizes and how many of each media type you wish to carry around you can extrapolate the most suitable memory density for you.
Good luck with whichever model you select.

  • How much ram is needed to upgrade to OS Maverick, how much ram is needed to upgrade to OS Maverick

do you need more than 8 gig's of ram to operate OS Maverick?  I upgraded to 8 Gigs of ram and I cannot really tell a difference in what I do on my Mac however with this new system will I need more?

OS X Mavericks should run fine in 8GB.  OS X 10.8 requires 2GB although it really needs 4GB to run reasonably well. I don't recall seeing the memory requirements for OS X Mavericks, however, even if they pushed it to 4GB, you would still be fine with 8GB.

  • How much RAM do I need in my new MacBookPro?

I think I need to add more RAM to my MacBook Pro. I've been using it for a couple of months now and I'm tired of running so slow. Things are fine until I have several applications open or whenever I try to run any Adobe Creative Suite programs.
So, my question is: how much RAM should I buy? My 1.83 MacBook Pro has the standard 512 MBs of RAM that came with it. I'd prefer to keep the cost low, so would buying one more 512 MB stick be enough? I am processing 8 Megapixel RAW images in Photoshop. Will 1 MB total be enough?
Also, do I have to have the two slots matched? Can I put a 1GB stick next to my 512 MB stick?
    Thanks,
    Laura

512+512 is better than 1gb + 0 - because of the ddr2 effect in the same way that 256+256 is better than 512+0, but not better than 512+256
512 + 1gb is better than 512 + 512 because you have more ram which outweighs the performance benefit of the two dimms.
The way to tell is to run activity monitor (from applications), click and hold the dock icon and turn it into a memory pie chart. You'll see how much ram you are using (tip - free ram is the total of free (green) + inactive (blue). If you are only occasionally running right out you might get by with 1gb total.
Also, economically, you'll be able to get a 512 for about $45-50 as people upgrade, whereas the 1gb chip will cost (at the moment - over $100 for generic and $150+ for one that is the same model as Apple supply - these prices do change and right at the moment there is a shortage of DDR2. - If you do want to buy one, post back and I can give you some hints on where and what to look out for). I'm awaiting a machine next week and will be posting 2 512's on craigslist in your(our) region, as do many others who upgrade so it's not a bad way to get ram - from another mbp owner who is upgrading to 2 x 1gb - and it's normally been tested for a few days.
Also, not a bad idea to have a look to see which chip Apple have put in their already and post back.
    Best of luck.

  • How much ram and processing power in my imac will meet my graphic design needs?

    Hi,
I'm in the market for a new imac. I'm trying to figure out how much ram I'll need and which processor will be sufficient for my graphic design needs.
I'm gonna need it to be robust enough to have InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator open at once along with spotify, safari with many tabs open, and a couple other apps including evernote and game from time to time. Also, I'm gonna be managing a good deal of fonts in font explorer. How much ram and processing power will I need in my imac to keep everything snappy with all these apps going at the same time?
Any advice on this would be much appreciated. Feel free to include any other relevant information you think I should know.
    Thanks, Nick

Computers are out of date when you open the box
Ok, getting serious, that iMac should be a viable workhorse for what you want for a good five years, and taht depends on how much ram you put in it, add really fast external storage, and so on.
Didn't throw this in earlier so as to not influence the discussion: my daughter is the senior art director, VP, at a graphics design firm in NYC.  Has been in the business for a number of years.  When she changed out her Mac at work, bought, or company bought, the 27" iMac model just before the latest, with maxed out CPU/GPU, and storage.  They maxed the memory to 32 GB for her, then added a 30" Apple cinema display so she has almost 5' of display in front of her.  There is nothing she cannot have open all spread across that display area.  She works almost exclusively in print media, occassionally condescends to do web stuff.  And has a massive array of RAID drives hanging on it.  But that is a setup an individual would be hard pressed to go with.
At home she uses a MacBook Pro with top cpu and display but that is all.
The point, just how massive do you want to go depends on how fast you have to work; in the office where time is money you need tons of horsepower.  At home, you scale it to your abilitty to juggle other tasks at the same time.
I think your choices have been great, the discussion has focused on what is important and especially what can and cannot be changed in the future.
Best of luck setting this up.

  • How much RAM & CPU should I allocate for Windows 7 Ultimate?

I am in the process of setting up my new 27" iMac i7. I'm brand new to Apple computers so this is a learning curve for me! I have installed Parallels Desktop 5 so I can run Windows 7 side by side with Snow Leopard. Now I am trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate but I don't know how much RAM and CPU to allocate to my virtual machine. Has anyone done this and can anyone help? I have 8 gb RAM and 1 tb Hard Drive.
    Thank you for your help!

    Hello SwissCanuck,
Just FYI, with regard to 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7:
You will not be able to "upgrade" from a 32-bit version of Windows 7 to 64-bit -- the architecture between the two is too drastically different to allow such a change. To learn more about the differences between a 32-bit operating system and 64-bit please go to the following link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/32-bit-and-64-bit-Windows-frequ ently-asked-questions
Additionally, check out the requirements here for Windows 7:
If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what it requires:
    •1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
•1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
•16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
•DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
Obviously covered as per your hardware. Essentially, it is always better if you run Windows 7 as a "Native OS" you can do this with boot camp from Apple. Typically, the performance is not as fast in virtual environments

  • How much RAM do I need to run FCP effectively?

As you can see below, I have an iMac 2.1 Ghz 20 in. (isight) w/ 512 MB of RAM, and I also have FCP, but have been experiencing some playaback framerate issues. So I have decided to upgrade my RAM to either 1 GB, 1.5 GB, or 2.5 GB... My question is how much RAM do you have and how well does it run. I know 2.5 GB's would be the ideal amount, but if I only need 1.5 GB then I would prefer to go with that and use the extra cash for new speakers.
Thanks, and I posted this over at the Final Cut Express board on accident so if any of you feel you have read this before... thats why.

Get an external hard drive - Firewire 400 min/ firewire 800 if your machine will support it.
Having media and the os on the same disk is a recipe for disaster.

  • How much Ram do I need in a MacBook Pro for Software Engineering?

I plan to buy a new MacBook Pro in the next month for school and hopefully for work. I would like this computer to get me at least 4 years of use. I will be majoring in software engineering. My question is how much ram would I need in a Macbook Pro for software engineering? I am currenty looking at the 15" 2.3ghz base model with 8gb of ram as well as the 15" 2.4ghz base model retina. I really like the retina but its at my max budget. Will the 8gb of ram be enough since it is not upgradable? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am currenty looking at the 15" 2.3ghz base model with 8gb of ram
The MB Pro 15" 2.3Ghz with 8GB of RAM should do the trick.
Save your $$$ on the retina and stick to your budget

  • I need to add more RAM, what do I do and how much do I need?

I have an imac. It is a 21" 2011, 10.8 op system  with 4 gigs of ram. It has begun to show the "colored wheel" and a few of the programs that require a lot of ram lock up. I was told I needed more RAM. Where do I buy it, what kind do I need, and how much do I need?
Do I need to buy it in pairs?
    Thanks for the help, Mike

  • Windows--how much RAM/GHZ

I am deciding whether to buy another PC, or get a MAC to run CS4.
If I get another PC, how much RAM is very good to run it?
    Is 4 gigs enough?
What about the min. processor speed?
    Help!

4 gigs will work fine for CS4 for normal duties.  Of course you need a 64 bit system to use any more RAM, but photoshop will use as much ram as is available.  This becomes more important with large file manipulations.  So as always the answer depend on what you are going to do with it.

  • How much RAM do we really need

I currently have a G5 with 4gb or RAM. I'm thinking of buying a new MAC pro - but given that it's memory is expensive - my question is how much ram do I really need for aperture to run well?
Can I get away with just 2GB? Or should I just suffer(financially) and move to 4GB. My camera is 10.4 megapixels and I tend to convert the files to photoshop for editing purposes.

You Americans have it easy! There's a nice Mac Pro on the Apple refurb store -
3.0GHz, 2GB RAM and an X1900XT/512MB at a price to make us in the UK cry! (about $1700 less than we'd pay!)
I guess I'll stick with my G5 for a while (very smooth with 3.5Gb RAM, my MBP is much better now with 2GB, 1GB got slow at times).

  • How much RAM will I need?

Considering buying a Macbook Pro, but I wanted to ask around and find out approximatly how much RAM I would need so that I dont get a model thats too powerful or too weak for my usage. I was considering 4 Gbs but im not sure if thats enough.
What im mainly planning to do on the Macbook is:
    internet browsing (chrome, safari etc)
    Mail app
Word processing software like Microsoft word
    Eclipse (java programming)
    skype
    utorrent
Say I have all these programs running at the same time, how much RAM will I need to have?

Oh also, I just remembered wanting to ask this, have you ever tried downloading an OS update for a macbook and apple wont let you because you have outdated technology? Like trying to download ios 7 on an iphone 3G for example.
I've had that exact problem - someone gave me what was, supposedly, an iPhone 4s but turned out to be a 3Gs. Couldn't update to iOS 7.x so it just sits on my desk right now.
And when I had my MacBook Pro (1,1 2006 model) I couldn't upgrade to Lion - was 'stuck with' Snow Leopard.
O'd technology that no longer plays nice with new OS's? Time to get a new machine.
