Windows 8.1 and ACPI Battery Issues

We have a Dell Inspiron 15R (model 5537), which came with Windows 8 factory installed. The machine worked perfectly, with no flaws.  Then we upgraded it to Windows 8.1, and the began having problems with the battery.  The system would work fine
for a while, it is primarily used as a desktop computer, with the AC power plugged in 80% of the time.  Then we would notice the power icon change to indicate was running on battery, even though it was still plugged in.  Unplugging it and plugging
it back in SOMETIMES solved the problem, at least for a few hours.  We have seen various suggestions for solving this problem, including disabling the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Battery module.  As it worked perfectly in Windows 8, we can only assume
that the problem lies in a fault ACPI driver in Windows 8.1.  Is there any permanent solution to this, perhaps Microsoft is issuing an update to the ACPI Battery drivers?

My iPod works properly only if connected to the USB port on my PC, unplugged it goes blank and stops working.  Is this an old battery issue?

Yes.  It sounds like the iPod's battery is on its last leg.  If you want to keep using your iPod you'll want to have the battery replaced either by Apple, a third party company, or you can even buy the replacement part and swap it out yourself.

  • Cisco Jabber windows call option and user addition issue

    Hi,
After uploading the jabber-config.xml (EDI-BDI) on the CUCM, the call option for new user contacts started appearing but the already existing contacts in Jabber client have still no call option. Also when we add new contacts to the Jabber client, it just disappears as such. Any one faced similar issue before. Below are the details and attached jabber-config.xml and LDAP profile snap.
We are using employeeNumber as attribute in LDAP configuration.
    CUCM - 8.5.1.15900-4
    UCCX - 8.6.3.10000-20
Jabber for windows - 9.7.0 (Tried with earlier version of jabber as well)

    Hey
Just right click on the contacts which do not have the call option and select view profile, then see if those contacts that are added are they from the Outlook or the AD, if its AD then they will have a contact number and as such they will have the Call Option enabled.
If they are from outlook then delete the users and readd them by checking the view profile option to verify they are being pulled from AD.
Also if i assumed the issue differently then what it is please explain the whole scenario.
Note-: In case of J4W it will not connect to the directory using the LDAP profile info, it automatically verified and cnnects to the domain using your login creds.

  • Windows 7 DNS and Group Policy Issues

    Hi,
We have several suites of Windows 7 domain connected PC's.
In one of the suites I have been called into look at 3 different PC's where the users have not got mapped drives, desktop backgrounds, internet connectivity - because their group policies have not applied.
When I look at the error logs I find DNS 1014 errors, and Group Policy 1054 errors.
I have looked at the logs on the switches, and there is nothing on them - Could a pupil pulling the network cable out cause these errors?... Possibly they could have put it back in before I got back in the room.
The user logs off of the PC and back on again and are fine, as are the users that logon after them.
We have 2 DC's/DNS servers, which I would have thought would be able to cope with the load here.
Please let me know what you think the likely cause could be.

    Hello John555444,
    What is your current situation?
    Is this issue resolved?

  • ACPI battery issues

    Hey guys, been a while.
Anyway, on my MSI gx640 laptop I'm noticing that I can't seem to get a proper battery readout.
First off, there's nothing in /proc/acpi/ except "button", and when I run "acpi -i" I get this:
    [crew@arch ~]$ acpi -i
    Battery 0: Unknown, 96%
Battery 0: design capacity 7800 mAh, last full capacity 6626 mAh = 84%
    Any ideas?

Also, I should note that the capacity only goes down. It seems to know that it's unplugged and some of the battery will drop, but it won't rise again. Been sitting at 96% for a while now. If I unplug for a few minutes it'll go down a couple percent, but no matter how long it's plugged in, it won't go up again.

  • Adobe Pro 9 Extended, Word 07, Windows XP text and line conversion issues (already checked for correct monitor settings)

I am coverint a 35 page catalog from word 07 ..... it is built with tables listing prodcts, descriptions and prices.   Some text is faded out, some table lines end up thicker, some don't appear at all.   It will primarily be a web doc but I also tried optimizing for print and issues were still there.   Checked all discussions could not locate similar content.  Thanks for your help!!!!!

For the replace and delete pages, I can only guess that you are messing up some of the bookmarks or links in the page from what I think you have based on the description. I would work on copies between each stage so that you can at least go back to the last success stage. If possible, you are better to go back and do the modifications in the original page and the recreate the PDF. If that is not possible, then maybe a better explanation of how you are creating the PDF would help folks understand your process fully and suggest a solution.
On the latter, I would do a repair on Acrobat. However, it may be in the process you are using in the conversion from WORD. How are you creating the PDF from WORD? Have you updated AA9 and not simply have 9.0? The confusing point is that you talk about Distiller for getting the PDF from WORD. Distiller is often involved, but only behind the scenes and normally you either print to the Adobe PDF printer, use PDF Maker, or use the MS plugin for PDF creation. So when stating Distiller, it is unclear what process you are using since none of the methods I mention state the use of Distiller even if it is used in the background.

  • Monthly Windows Server maintenance and patching, best practices?

WSUS, or System Center Essentials or like that from microsoft itself, its quite good and you can delay the deployment or manage it as your needs.

    Greetings All,
I would like to reduce our reliance on a MSP for performing server maintenance and patching and would like to know some best practices for doing updates on production servers.
Are there programs or services out there that track Microsoft updates for Windows Server 2008+, and lists possible issues that they may cause? How do you go about monthly updates for your critical servers?
    Thanks

  • Battery issue with iphone 4

Hello. I have an iphone 4 a long time with no problem at all. I used ios 4.3.3 , with a lot of calls, mesagges, wifi and browsing and the battery was great. It could last about 3 to 4 days. Then I decided to update to ios 5 , and the battery issues started. I had to have everything switch off in order to last 1.5 day the battery, which is unacceptable because I bought this phone not just to see how beautiful it is, but also to use all its capabilities. I send it to service in order to check the battery and the answer was , the battery is ok and according to apple's specs. I can't charge every day my phone, if I want to use locations or wifi.
So I am asking you, is it possible to downgrade to ios 4.3.3 firmware ?
I liked the battery the way it was...

Ok, is there an email in order to address apple my problem with the battery and request a new one?
As I am living in the EU I cannot arrange and online support. The responsible one's for iphone support are the carriers and I don't trust them.I am still under warranty and I have already send my iphone for repair once but they did nothing. I am sending it a second time and I would like to speak with someone that can give me answers and give me a replace. I don't mind paying for it, but I wan to be fixed.

  • Windows 7 and blinking cursor issue...

(Just an FYI...I originally posted this in the MBP forum because I didn't realize there was a bootcamp forum)
I recently had my computer repaired through AppleCare.  They replaced the logic board, top cover, a connector and battery.  When I first got the computer back, I turned it on, booted to the Mac partition, everything was good.  I then booted to Windows with the Bootcamp partition and everything was good.  Even the stuff I had open before the damage were still up.  I shut it down, boxed everything up and didn't touch it until I got home.
When I got home, I booted up Windows 7 and now all I get is it boots to a black screen with the cursor.  I ran the repair utility, tried safe mode and it says no errors are found, however, it still won't load.  I haven't figured out why it booted up the first time I got the computer back but now it won't do anything.  I never got a chance to back everything up because my computer was damaged from liquid damage, but I can still see all the files on my Bootcamp partition through finder from the Mac side.
I don't know exactly why it's doing this or what to search to find an answer to the problem.  When I first got my MBP, I installed Windows 7 through and upgrade disc from my job, so I don't know what my next steps should be.
    Other steps:
Tried WinClone to copy the drive and it gave me an error message on the log.
Tried to run system repair several times and it came back with no errors.  Same for memory diagnostic tool.  Everytime I run the repairs, it finds no errors but still boots up to the black screen with cursor.  Ugh, this is so frustrating.
Right now I have most of my files backed up on my external drive, but I still want to find a way to clone the drive and then it looks like my only choice is to do a clean install.  How do I do that? Someone else set up the partition for me when I got my computer, so I don't know how to remove the version of Windows 7 to do a clean install or if I have to start messing with the partition.  I only have an upgrade disk.
Any more thoughts?  I thought about calling AppleCare but I doubt they'd help since it's Windows 7, but it was not doing this before the repair.  I guess I'm lucky I still have access to the files.

    Leeopard huh?
You need Snow Leopard w. 10.6.x to get 3.0.
If it works and no issues fine though probably the first time I have read someone did.
BC 2.2 was more about XP and some support for Vista.

  • IOS 5.1 and iPhone 4S - battery issues resolved?

Has the 5.1 update resolved your battery issues or created any new ones?
I just updated mine, and had to rush out the door so I couldn't test properly- I couldn't reset all settings to factory or recharge the phone to 100% but as is, so far no improvement at all. I wouldn't say I have the issue as bad as some others as my 4S lasts about the same as my windows phone (HD 7 - amazing phone if anyone wants a second phone or a change from ios, Android ***** so hard it hurts) and my old 3GS used to get after i updated it to 4.1 which was really bad, except I don't get so much "phantom drain" as that did. I do know that it could be much better as when I've reset my settings to factory before I've got a much better life span (what I'd expect from a smartphone) for a day or so before getting the bad battery again.
Any news, tips or findings? How has ios5.1 affected your 4S or previous model iPhone?

  • Yoga 11S Windows 8.1 and battery problem

Just got the 11S. First did all the windows updates and then did the windows 8.1 upgrade. With the exception of the missing dolby audio driver, the updates and upgrade went flawlessly.
Then I noticed that the battery was stuck at 62%. I did some research and tried changed the Lenovo Energy Management settings, nothing I could do helped. I uplugged the machine and let the battery drain but if I plugged it in, the percentage would not change.
I finally called tech support and they worked with me for almost 2 hours uninstalling and reinstalling a variety of drivers both for the 11s  and other machines that they thought might work. After no success, I was told it was Windows 8.1 which was causing the problem and I needed to reinstal Windows 8.
Reinstalling WIndows 8 did not help the problem. The battery still wouldn't charge at all and the percentage was down to 32%. A return/exchange was set up and I should be getting a new machine.
Question now, I saw the 11s listed as being 8.1 compatible on one of the other forums here. Has anyone successfully upgraded to 8.1 and the battery is still charging and the rest of the machine still works?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Received the replacement yesterday. This one seems to be fine. I was able to apply the Windows updates and then upgrade to 8.1 without any major issues. I did have to reinstall the audio drivers to get the dolby home theater boot error fixed but I had to do this with the original machine as well. I installed all the 8.1 drivers on the website as well.
I do have a concern  as to whether the original machine was new or a repackaged return. When I first plugged in the original machine, the battery was at 62% which now looking back is odd. The replacement machine was at 60% which makes sense as it is at the limit. 62% is past that but not fully charged either. It is as if someone had already had this machine plugged in, had problems with something, possibly the battery charging, and returned it. The machine was then cleaned up and repackaged but nobody every checked the battery.
It's just a theory but something was not right with the first machine.

  • Heating and battery issues  for iPad 3

My iPad gets really hot. The battery takes up to 7-10 hours to charge and it's loosing battery faster than my buddies iPad 2. We used them at the same rate for a test. His was at 56% and mine was at 50%. Sometimes much worse than that.  Like I said it gets extremely hot. And the battery...well it *****. I once put it on the charger over night and it was at about 85% I am very disappointed in this iPad. I have come to expect much more from Apple.

Are you just ranting, or do you have a question?
Btw, the issues you describe have been discussed dozens of times already.

  • Magsafe and Battery issue

Hi there, I'm having a bit of a problem with my MacBook 2009. The exact model number is A1342, if that helps.
I originally bought it used online, and have been having issues since day one. It worked normally when I first plugged it in, then I unplugged it and went somewhere else for a bit. When I went to go plug it back in, the Magsafe cable showed a very dim orange light, and then it turned off completely, and the battery status at the top showed that it wasn't being charged. It also showed a little triangle icon, and said that the battery would need to be serviced soon.
Well, I did some research online, and even check the warranty status. I figured since it was expired, and I had paid so little for it, there was no issue in trying some self repair. I quickly found which cable connected to the main board, unplugged it, waited a few moments, then plugged it back in. Suddenly, the Magsafe would start working again! Until I unplugged it and plugged it back in, that is.
So, after a bit of leaving it sit, I was able to obtain a used, but working battery from a friend whose Macbook (The same model) decided it wanted to stop working. I plugged in the battery without removing the old one, and it worked well, so I plugged in the Magsafe cable, and the little orange light turns on briefly, then shuts off again right away.
Through all of this, I tried with the battery unplugged, and only the Magsafe running the computer, and it works perfectly fine! Green light and all! Plus, the Magsafe seems to work on other computers without an issue.
So, could it just be the battery? Or might it be something else? I've never had a problem with a Macbook before, so this is certainly a bit weird! Thanks in advance for your help!

Your battery looks pretty healthy to me. There is the possibility that the capacity will suddenly decrease though. With the capacity numbers you have, the battery should work fine for about 3 hours. I'm not sure a new battery will help with your issue.
If you disconnect the MagSafe adapter, does the computer shut off immediately? Do you have the battery status displayed in the menu bar? If so, what does it say?
Try resetting the SMC to see if that helps any:

  • Battery charging and power adaptor issues

I'm having slight issues with both my power adaptor and the battery itself.
First I think I have cord issues as the light status can change from dim green to red or bright green if I move the cord around.
Second, my MBP is having trouble recognising if power is going to the battery or if it's charging etc. It can recognise if there's no adaptor connected at all, but if there's an adaptor connected, it has trouble seeing if there's power coming from the adaptor even if the light is on. I.e. it can stay at 100% and supply comes from the power adaptor and then suddenly drop to 80% power and start charging agan. One issue that happened earlier today was the adaptor was connected, and the battery indicator was at 100% with supply from the adaptor. Suddenly the MBP shutdown, and when I rebooted it was at 17% (I've tried repeating that in case of a dodgy battery but I couldn't)

If that doesn't help, the problem could be the adapter, the battery, or the I/O board (or a couple of less likely things). If you can borrow another adapter and/or battery, try them to see where the problem is. Or, if you're near an Apple Store, take it in and they'll diagnose it for you (for free, but they will charge for repairs if you need them and don't have AppleCare).
