Immediately after Diskpart-Win80-Win81 fresh install, there are four (4) instances of WinHelp32 on our machine:

Was this a healthy Windows 8.1 update from Windows 8.0 Pro? Anyway, more information...
There are no HLP files in the Windows 8.1 Update. There are many in Windows.old Windows 8.0. System32.
Alerted to this bug during hardware installation. New audio card Asus Xonar STX help file is in *.hlp format. Like all 8.0 help files, Asus HLP will not open. Windows 8.1 fresh install will not open any HLP file and opens window linking me to this

Windows 8.1 Pro - FTP.exe not able to put file to FTP Server

We have replaced our Windows XP environment to Windows 8.1 Pro. Now I have problem with sending files through FTP to very old devices. Devices are runninng FTP Servers. Each time I try to "PUT" file on Windows 8.1 I receive message after some time:
"Connection closed by remote host"
If I make the same on Windows XP file is stored on FTP successfully.
From Windows 8.1 I am able to upload software only via Filezilla, but I need command line solution like FTP.exe or ncFTP.exe (non of them are able to stor file)
I have observed in Wireshark, that ftp.exe sends about 80kB of data, waits for some time and then it stops.

I need command line solution tu upload files. Now I am not able to upload 1500 devices as we don't have Windows XP anymore.
What I have observed, when I type "PUT file" it takes about 20-30 seconds to start transfer on Windows XP or through filezilla.
Is there any problem with timeout in Windows 8.1 when it transfer files to old FTP server (working in passive mode)?

Program runs in win 7-64 Pro BUT will not run in win 7 home or vista.
I'm testing 32bit software that will run in 7-64 Pro but will not in win 7 home premium or vista.
The 7-64 Pro machine is NOT running the program in XP mode although is is being run as admin. The 7 home premium and vista beta testers have tried every work around/mode, admin mode, and anti-virus exception. I've run process explorer & WinMerge to evaluate
the differences between os operations & dlls loaded but am unable to find the OS issue.
Currently 2-win7-64 machines, 1 vista machine and 1 win 7 machine had no issues with the program as it started up and ran immediately.
After 3 beta's 30 hours of testing & 50 of my own, I believe I've narrowed the issue down to the win 7 home premium and vista os's.
Can anyone here suggest other ways to further narrow it down so as to provide functionality on all 3 os's?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

This page shows the authoring and runtime OS requirements. Unfortunately, D 11.5 isn't set up to run on Windows versions earlier than XP. You may want to keep that earlier version of your .exe and make it available to users with 2000 or 98.

Applemobilesync.exe not running during restore

Hi all,
After trying to update my iOS 4 iPhone 3GS to iOS 5 there were a lot of problems, so I had to restore my phone with a clean iOS5 ipsw, then whenever I try and restore my phone from the iTunes backup, I get a message saying that the backup session failed.
Upon closer inspection, I have realised that the AppleMobileSync.exe process that handles the restore operations is not running at any point. Calling it manually requires a whole series of parameters that I have no idea how to enter correctly. I've checked the backup files on another computer and the files are fine.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes 10.5 to no effect.
I'm running iTunes 10.5 on a Windows 7 x64 machine syncing to an iPhone 3GS running a clean iOS5 install.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can force AppleMobileSync to run or any way to make the restore run through peoperly.

Its pointing to Archive Stuck issue. Free some space in the directory of the offline redo logs.
Please move the old or all Archive log files from ORAARCH / SAPARCH directory to other safe location as backup copies and Restart ur DB Instance and SAP Instance step by step.
If this directory is full on the operating system or some problem occurs with it, then the Oracle does not allow overwriting and hence the database is stopped until the archiving process can be restarted successfully.
Sufficient space should be allocated for ORAARCH or SAPARCH directory.
As an alternative, You can disable Archive log mode during SGEN operation. But make sure that you will have to perform immediate offline backup of Database before or after disabling/enabling Archive Log Mode to have guaranteed DB recovery.

Nal.exe not running

We've got a problem with trying to get our applications we've created to
distribute across the network. I'm testing one application which is
associated with one user, however we are having problems getting nal to
load at login via the user's login script. Everything that I've read
states that you should only have to load nal.exe from the login script,
and that "wrapper program" should load everything else it needs to in
order for nal to run and start distributing applications. However,
nal.exe is not working when I add it to the user's login script. I can,
however, run nalwin32.exe from the login script, and the applications get
distributed just fine on Windows XP workstations. But, I get errors on
Windows 98 workstations, giving an error "unable to load zenapp32.dll".
Now, I'm guessing that dll file is one that nal.exe loads, and by running
nalwin32.exe, it bypasses that so it fails to load, hence the error. The
XP machines are running novell client 4.9 SP2, and the win98 machines are
running client 3.4. Zenworks for desktops version 3.2, and Netware 6. Any
ideas why we can't get nal.exe to run?

Unfortunately, running nal.exe from the login script on both Win98 and
WinXP machines does nothing. The application launcher doesn't load, and
hence the applications we've created do not get distributed. This is the
first time we've tried distributing applications, Zenworks for Desktops
was installed on our server before I ever got here. I am by no means a
Novell expert, but might a reinstall of Zen on the server do the trick?
It just seems like things that should happen when nal.exe is run do not
happen, and I'm not convinced it is a problem on the workstations.

Windows 8.1 Pro workstation will not connect to our domain

My situation has me puzzled.
I've got a workstation that I want to be added to the domain. I got it added no problems. When I go to login on my own user account on the domain, it works as it should.
As I hand off this workstation over to a user and had them log into it, they mention that "There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request."
I checked their group policies on the domain controller and its setup exactly like the others.
Most of our machines are windows 7 pro, and they all are able to login to the domain just fine; including the person in question from before on a windows 7 pro machine. For some reason however, using the same credentials and same everything else, it refuses
to attempt to try to connect to our domain.
If I'm able to connect using windows 8.1 pro on my account, while a normal user can't, I suspect its a group policy issue? The user is a member of "domain user" group so I'd think that would be the only real ticket they would need. Again they can
use their own credentials under windows 7 pro and connect up fine, and my very own credentials for windows 8.1 pro machine logged in and carried out group policy information as well.
Well now here is something, just as I was typing this up, I made a test account that has domain admin rights and low and behold, it was able to log in though it doesn't appear that group policy mapped drives or shortcuts were placed.
I guess the question now is what would a domain admin have over a domain user that would allow a domain admin to log in and not a domain user that is specific to windows 8.1 pro.

Check your DNS settings on the machine. Are you using static entries at all?
Can you ping the DC from that machine? Also try turning off UAC and check your firewalls.

Windows 8.1 Pro Update 1 not available

I have a new Thinkpad 10 running Windows 8.1 Pro. I don't see an option to install Update 1 (available through Windows Store on my other Windows 8 laptops). I don't think that Update 1 has been installed since I don't see the power button on Start screen next to my user name. Using the Windows Update command doesn't work, says that all updates have been installed. How do I get Update 1? Thanks!

You won't see the power button on the Start Screen on any tablet that uses Connected Standby (aka InstantGo) - it's by Microsoft's design. So you will be running Update 1 if you are being told that all updates are installed.

I notice that when I send my exe to people who only have the run time engine, the exe will not run properly. The exe requires the serial com. To fix the problem, I have to install MAX on that machine. Why do I have to do that? Is it not true that running an exe only requires the run time engine?

You also need the VISA driver when you are woriking with Serial communication.

Physically the drive will be as fast as any other of its class, and if not then it's experiencing a mechanical issue that should prompt a warning or two in the system, especially if you use a drive management tool like Disk Utility that checks the drive's built-in "S.M.A.R.T." diagnostics.
As for "logical speed," if there are bad blocks on the drive where sectors cannot be read or written to because of a breakdown of the storage medium, then this can result in a program or the entire system crashing or hanging (generally the latter is the case), where it usually pauses for a number of seconds at a time. This is usually accompanied by messages that state "I/O Error" or other similar warning in the OS X Console (in the Applications > Utilities folder).
Beyond this, drive formatting errors such as might happen after a crash or power outage can result in similar hang-like behavior, though this is usually not as distinct of a hanging behavior as is seen with bad blocks.
Finally, if the drive is simply full of files or highly fragmented (not as much of a problem in OS X, but it can happen), then this can reduce access time for reading and writing files, and prevent the system from optimizing the use of RAM, which can result in overall slowdowns. Heavy drive use can also cause similar bottlenecks, but this is ususally only an intermittent issue during a time when you are performing a heavy file transfer or copying process, or other task that occupies access to the drive's index and formatting (e.g., if you check it for errors with Disk Utility, then you may see the system pause or slow down during the check).

My MacBook Pro is walking, not running, slow

My MacBook Pro, circa early 2011 is getting progressively slower. I recently installed Yosemite, but the slow down had already started before that. It is not always consistently slow, at times it is fine. Sometimes however, when I type, the text takes around 30 seconds or more to even show up. Sometimes it never shows up at all. I play a guessing game as to whether or not I need to retype the sentence, usually to find out I didn't, it was just taking a minute this time. Safari may sit for a few minutes before responding, and yes the router is working fine, all our other devices have no problems getting out. I have repaired permissions and I have cleared some hard drive space so I have over 70GB free.

Satellite Pro L100 does not run after BIOS update

Ok the machine is a Toshiba Satellite Pro L100 PSLA4. Problem occurred during a BIOS update from the official Toshiba website. I downloaded the zip file, extracted it and activated the .exe file inside.
The window opened by the .exe was a BIOS flashing program, the .exe also simultaneously wrote a new BIOS file to a temporary folder.
When tried to use the program all I got was an error saying that it couldn't find the new BIOS to input.
I tried again only to get the same error. I then left the laptop for several minutes and when I returned, I found a blank unresponsive laptop.
By unresponsive I mean an obvious lack of BIOS functions i.e. power LED's not changing when plugging in of unplugging from the mains and the fact that I had to pull the battery out to turn the machine off. When the machine is turned on now all it does is check the drives and restarts (no display, no beeps)
What do I do?
The first thing that came to mind was to reset the BIOS.
One problem, I can't find the RTC battery or a jumper switch.

I have at least found out why this happened, the program obtained from Toshiba automatically 'attempts' to upgrade the BIOS upon activation. This means that the program engaged with errors without my authorisation. I don't find this very impressive from a company as large and powerful as Toshiba.
Also it may be possible to fix myself if the BIOS installation instructions made sense, extracting the .zip file does not create three sub folders and pressing the F12 key does not start the laptop.

Acrobat Adobe Pro XI will not run due to error code 213:11 after downloading from creative cloud with no issues.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled 4 times, have added plugins to firefox and to no avail. I have contacted support twice, was disconnected once and the second time was told to uninstall and reinstall and my account was closed as fixed. I have reinstalled with the firewall off. same error code.
what is the problem??? I am pulling my hair out! I purchased in mid-Aug to use for school and have not been able to create one useable document yet.
I need the Acrobat pro, that is all I care about!!
