Windows 10 doesn't only deliver various visual and functional updates.
The latest and most advanced OS from Microsoft has an abundance of new security features under the hood which ensure safer computing for consumers and businesses.

there is a new windows service installed with this beta vrsion of the console launcher
why the hell do you?need to add a new serivce all the time. First you added CTAudSVC.exe with the?latest drivers... and now there is some sort?of ct engine licensing service..... We?need fixes not?memory hogging services.

  • EBay does not recognize new security feature requiring security number in Firefox but works with IE

eBay has a new security feature when attempting to e-mail a seller; it requires that you enter a numerical code in a box. When on Firefox eBay does not recognize that I've entered the number and keeps telling me to enter the number but when on IE it recognizes the number. What add-on, etc do I need to make Firefox compatible with eBay? Thanks

  • New security features added in JD Edwards World A9.3

    Hi,
We have to migrate the security policy settings from A 7.3 to A 9.3.
I read that we can take the advantage of new security model which is much robust and flexible than the earlier versions.
So please advise on the following:
    a)migrate usernames/passwords.
    b)maintain security policy settings.
    c)migrate menus
    Thanks,

My goodness, this is something that you really need to contact support for help with. You don't mention what JDE World 7.3 cum version you are on, what version of OS/400 you are on, and what IBM hardware you are on. Could be all sorts of things. What sort can do is start a web session and see what is actually going on in your system, and be able to look at the various settings and configurations that you have. Something that we cannot do on this forum. Support is very well equipped to deal with this kind of problem. On this forum, we can speculate as to possible causes, but those speculations may not apply to your specific problem, and cause you to waste time chasing a dead end.

I never saw that option during the field trial, however you can view the headers if you use an e-mail client.

  • Windows XP SP2's DEP feature and issues with some CPUs

    Hello all !
I wanted to start this thread to help out people who are having problems with PC restarts when some applications are launched on a PC with Windows XP SP2. First though, a little technical explanation.
Windows XP Service Pack 2 added a new security feature called Data Execution Prevention (DEP hereafter) that allowed Windows and a compliant CPU to perform additional checks on memory to help protect against malicious code exploits. New 64-bit CPUs from Intel and AMD support Hardware-enforced DEP and will halt execution of applications requiring access to special memory locations.
For a very detailed explanation, please look at the following article:
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/sp2mempr.mspx
Though most applications will run fine with the DEP feature enabled, a few can have compatability problems. In most such cases, the PC will either proceed to a blue screen error and restart or just restart directly (depending how error reporting is setup on the machine).
Here's how DEP can be disabled:
Method 1: Configure DEP to ignore your application
    =====================================
    - Open the control panel folder and double click the “System” icon
    - Click the “Advanced” tab
    - Click the “Settings” button in the “Performance” area
    - Click the “Data Execution Prevention” tab
    - Click the radio button that indicates you wish to specify programs for DEP NOT to operate on
    - Navigate to the folder where your application is located
    - Click the “Apply” button in all presented dialogs
    - Reboot your PC
    Method 2: Disable DEP completely
    =========================
This method is used to disable DEP at the boot.ini file level. Please note that this requires very careful editing of the boot.ini file, a single space in the wrong location can prevent your system from starting. Please refer to the same article as above to disable DEP completely through the boot.ini file.

  • Security feature missing in new Airport Express

The new Airport Express does not support non broadcasting SSID as confirmed by Apple support. Virtually all of Apples other products allow you access a non broadcasting network by just entering the name one time in network settings.  This allows you to hide your network by selecting to not broadcast the SSID (your network name) on your wireless router so others cannot see it with their computers, phones and laptops etc. My six year old Airport express supports this however I cannot imagine why the new one does not. Very disappointed. Why did they leave this out?

Why did they leave this out?
When there are dozens of free utilities available on the Internet that will reveal a "hidden" network in seconds, it is of little value as a security "feature".
As far as leaving the "feature" out, are you saying that the settings for the feature were left out......or the settings for the feature are there....but they do not work?

  • Internet/Router issues and new "secure email"

I'm supposed to have a 35MPS internet plan. When I switched to the higher speed plan, I paid for the Verizon router and installation.  I have both a Mac and Windows 7 Laptops as well as an older netbook.  To say that the wireless connectivity sucks would be complimentary.  I've used the automatic troubleshooter....I've looked through forums and followed advice on settings etc...with no joy.  Before I "upgraded" I had my own belkin n router.  Even though the router is downstairs in an office , with the belkin, I could connect on my back deck and all but the furthest upstairs rooms in the house.  Since I "upgraded"  the wireless won't stay connected with line of sight 8 feet from the router so we have cables trailing thru the living room.  For the brief moments when wireless is connected it is slower than dial-up.  The cabled connection seldom exceeds 10MBPS ( this is where they tell me the plan is "up to" 35MBPS")
We have a mountain home with DSL and a VERY basic wireless router.  Both the Mac and PC connect effortlessly and even my very untechsavvy wife mentioned how much faster the 3MPBS DSL service is than FIOS.  Her next question "Tell me again why are we paying so much for FIOS?"
The latest debacle (forget that companies choose to not learn from others mistakes, think Netflix here) is the new secure email settings. I updated my Mac and my android in strict compliance with the Verizon directions and for a few minutes all was well.  Today I can't connect through my android.  An "authentication error receiving" message show up with a note to check my settings only I HAVEN"T CHANGED MY FLIPPING SETTINGS!  Now I have to go in and re-enter my account password several times a day to get into my email account when the PW is stored in my phone!  I consantly have to rest the Mac as well. (Hmmm no yahoo, gmail  issues and they are free....)
To be fair I haven't called in the issue with the wireless connectivity because I have called before on other issues and frankly I don't have the time to wait on hold.  The last time I had a "technical problem" with my service I ended up telling the tier 2 tech how to fix the problem.
As a Quality Assurance /Customer Service professional,  the one thing I can tell Verizon is that there is no marketing campaign that will overcome word of mouth reports on poor service and response.  I installed FIOS years ago when it was first available in my neighborhood.   Service was reliable, customer service responsive and capable.  That all seems to have gone by the wayside to improve the bottom line.  Volume can go a long way to masking attrition for quite a while, but it isn't sustainable.  The cable companies in my area have an even worse reputation which is the only reason I've not yet left...and that's a really crappy reason to stay.
I understand that it's the processes and the system which are hosed up.  The poor CS reps are customer facing and they take it on the chin for every corporate decision viewed as stupid by customers. There may be a few really bad customer service reps, but the majority of  CS reps DON’T come to work to see how many customers they can **bleep** off.   CS Reps are only as good as the process under which they must work.  When working with organizations and speaking with CS reps one question I always ask is "How long would you put up with what you put out if you were dealing with another company?"  Then I suggest that the leaders/managers attempt to call in with a problem using only the same avenues available to paying customers.
Companies should also must realize that the "cancellation fee" they threaten people with is usually about a month and a half worth of service.  After that it's money back in the consumers pocket, or more likely into competitions pocket and not in Verizon’s pocket.  It’s the principle of the fee that keeps customers hanging on.
Now that I’ve vented if anyone can tell me a better router to use than the one Verizon gave me, I’m all ears.  I really don’t care about remote accessing my DVR.

Since you already have the Belkin and know that it works well, I would suggest hooking that up to the Verizon-supplied router and using that. Turn off the wireless from the Verizon router.

    Hi,
not sure what the error message is that you get. However, if you access an application through prortal then the security needs to be enforced by the portal, not the application itself because the portal will modify the request headers.
Did you ask the question on the WebCenter or Portal forum here on OTN

  • Windows 8's new Chkdsk and drive activity after scan

    Hello,
I have some questions regarding the new Chkdsk in Windows 8 (I'm using Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit).
Please note that Windows 8's Chkdsk has changed considerably since the previous Windows versions; so if you know about the Chkdsk in Windows 7 or previous Windows versions, this could not apply to the Chkdsk in Windows 8.
I also point out that I'm talking about the GUI version, accessible from the drive's properties Window.
My main questions are: when Chkdsk has finished scanning, and the results window appears, can I at once proceed with the following, or should I wait some time:
    1) In case of an external USB drive, disconnect the hard drive (with “safely remove hardware”, even if the cache is turned off), and turn it off.
    2) In case of an internal drive (HDD or SSD), reboot Windows, or turn off the computer.
My worry is that if I would disconnect a USB drive, or reboot or turn off the PC in case of an internal drive, before the Chkdsk-related activity is finished, then the file-system of the disk in question could get damaged.
My doubts come from the following facts:
    - I have been told that when the Chkdsk results window appears, this means that Chkdsk has finished working with that drive; but I have noticed that some short drive activity is happening some seconds (about 6) after the results window appears (should be a
write activity, not sure if also read activity). I noticed this by observing the LED on my USB drives, and also by monitoring the drives in question with Windows 8's new Taskmanager.
    - In case of disconnecting USB drives, I have been told that I can be sure that if some drive activity is happening, then the “safely remove hardware” feature won't have effect, and would warn me that there is disk access going on; but I have tried to select
“safely remove hardware” while Chkdsk was in the middle of a scan, and the result was that Chkdsk got interrupted (with an error messsage appearing probably from Chkdsk), and the USB hard drive got removed. Though this seems not to have caused any file-system
errors (I did another Chkdsk scan later).
You may think that I just need to look at the drive's LED, or monitor the drive's activity with the new Taskmanager, and take note of after how much time the drive activity ceases. Then I would just need to wait so long before disconnecting the USB drive, or
rebooting or turning off the PC.
My problem here is that I'm not sure if the new Taskmanager, or the drive's LED, are sensible enough to detect even the smallest disk access, which could get unnoticed. I'm not sure how much I should wait... seconds? Minutes? What do you think? Perhaps there's
no need to wait at all?
I did some tests by disconnecting (with “safely remove hardware”) a USB drive shortly after doing a Chkdsk on it. Then I did another Chkdsk after turning it on again. I didn't get any error message from Chkdsk. But I'm still worried that there could be an unfortunate
moment, during which a disconnection (still with “safely remove hardware”) could cause problems, perhaps because in that moment a write operation could be in process.
I think I have read that the new Chkdsk in Windows 8 uses VSS (“Shadow Copy”) to check the drives while keeping them online. With this new Chkdsk, I think it is possible to continue using the drive while the scan is happening, even on the system drive.
I was thinking about this: is it possible that the short activity which I have noticed after Chkdsk's results window appears, comes from this Shadow Copy Service, which is “unmounting” (?) the shadow copy used by Chkdsk?
If this is true, is it important to let the “unmounting” task happen, or can I disconnect, reboot, or turn off before it starts? And what happens if I interrupt this “unmounting” task in the middle, while it is in process?
What do you suggest? Am I being too worried, even paranoid?
Does it make some sense to wait some time after doing a Chkdsk, or can I at once proceed to disconnect the USB drive, or reboot or turn off the PC (in case of internal drives)?
    Thanks.

When I start iTunes on my home computer (Not a MAC), it automatically shuts down, and gives me the message that the Data Execution Prevention security feature has shut it down...what to do?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it, which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
