Windows media format?

I am going to buy a new 17 imac soon, but I was wondering on how I could play music in the WMP format....since about 2/3 of it is in that.
Should I convert it or could I use it with the "native' programs?(or download a new one?)

Actually, once you download the program it tells you that your Quicktime is out of date (even tho Mactels have Quicktime 7.0.4) so this means that there is no universal binary for this program yet.
With further investigation, I found out that a universal binary version is in the works, but not details on its release :\

  • Exporting in windows media format - only get 30 seconds!

I am trying to export a HDV film into windows media format for my client. They want the film to be 320 x 180, in windows media format and under 10mb, for use on their website.
The film is 3 1/2 minutes long, but when I try and export using quicktime conversion and then select windows media. I have tried fiddling with some of the settings but it keeps just doing 30 seconds of the film. What am I doing wrong? What settings should I be using?
    Please help me,
    Thank you,
    Tom

IMO, Flip4Mac Studio is a much better product than Visual Hub. Both cost money, but better feature set within F4M. As you experienced, you can only get 1/2 the duration of exports, up to a limit of 30 seconds, in trial mode.
If you want the studio version, go to your WMV preferences and click on the upgrade tab.

  • When i export a video in windows media format is shorter than the original

I tried a lot of time, using Quicktime 7.3.1, to convert a .mov video to a Windows Media .wmv video using the default settings but the result is shorter than original, my original video is 4 minutes, the exported just 30 seconds.
Maybe is my fault, something wrong in my laptop or a Quicktime bug?
I hope someone can help me
    Thanks, Marco.

You have the trail of Flip-4-Mac. You need to buy the full version to be able to convert to WVM.

  • Windows Media Format using Flip4Mac

This problem has just started the last couple of days. I am trying to make windows media files using flip4mac, and keep getting the following error message; "Inconsistent Audio Sample Rate. The media you are exporting contains audio with multiple sample rates". Then when I click the "OK" button on the error message Final Cut crashes and quits.
I've tried different movie clips and get the same error message. I've tried making the movie into a quicktime movie first, so that the video is all one continuous track and the audio is one continuous stereo track. but that makes no difference.
I emailed flip4mac but haven't had a responce from them yet.
Anyone know what the problem is?!?!?!?
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   whatever

It's a problem with the QuickTime 7.2 update. Flip4Mac is aware of the issue and is working on a fix.

The only workarounds at this time are to change the audio sample rate of what you're exporting to 44.1KHz, or revert back to QuickTime 7.1.6. The latter generally requires an archive and install of OS X.

  • Quicktime pro and windows media formats

    hi !
im using win xp pro and have installed quicktime pro to convert my videofiles for my new ipod
that works fine for .avi-, and .mov-files but not for .wmv or m.peg movies
what plugins do i need to play/convert these types of files too ?
    thanks for feedback !
    Kurt

QuickTime can't even be used to open WMP formats without third party software help. On a Mac we use http://flip4mac.com and pay extra money for the feature.
As I stated above, QuickTime Pro can't extract audio from muxed formats so you must start with a third party application. MPEG Streamclip works for Windows and OS X and is free.

  • Uploading a video in Windows Media Player format HELP

I just used the Insert:Media:Plugin to upload a video in .wav format and when I look at it on the web, it just says "ng PL" and nowhere does it play.  What am I doing wrong?  I did 'put' it onto the server.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks,

First, the wav format is an audio format not a Windows media format.  Thus the computer can decide what to do with it.  Either iTunes or WMP or any other media player could pick up the file.
Second, wav files are typically uncompressed.  Thus you are making your users download a file that is larger than they need to be download if it were to be encoded as MP3 or AAC, both of which are more optimized for web streaming and/or distribution.
Then what you need to look at is a Flash player or if HTML5 is an option, the audio tag, to embed the audio file onto your website.

  • MPEG and Windows Media Playback lost

    Hi,
Assistance please! I stupidly download and installed MPlayer today. I have now lost any playback of Windows Media format sound and this includes the audio associated with Microsoft's ENTOURAGE email programme. Also, CODEC not found error comes up with WMV files AND some MPEG video files now have no sound. Most of the MPEG will still run on VLC.
"Something" has corrupted a file, but where? I have re-installed QT and WMP without success. Starting the mac (10.4.4) via another start-up drive WILL play those files correctly. I also did a re-installed (archive install) again without luck, so its something left behind in the Library folder I think.
Help please as this is driving me mad.

    Dave,
Ok will try Garage Band too. I 'assume' Windows playback and some types of MPEG are converted to a form of midi? I could never work out what form windows media video and audio takes, but did hear that it was a form of mpeg. I assume the sounds with Microsoft's Entourage etc are of the same nature.

  • If you're having problems updating firmware and have Windows Media Player 11 B

I've seen a number of problems with people updating their firmware with WMP installed and it turns out that's the problem. WMP has a bug in it that will not allow the firmware update to recognize the player. So, here's what to do to roll back to a previous version:
These instructions will only work for Windows XP
You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group to perform the following procedure.
. Disconnect any portable music or video devices that might be attached to your computer.
    2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    3. In the Category View of Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs, and then click Remove a program.
    4. Click Windows Media Player , and then click Remove.
If Windows Media Player is not displayed in the list of currently installed programs, then try the following:
. At the top of the list, select the Show updates check box.
    2. In the Windows XP - Software Updates section, click Windows Media Player , and then click Change/Remove.
    5. In each of the two confirmation dialog boxes that appear, click OK.
    6. When the rollback process is complete (it might take several minutes), click Restart.
    7. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    8. In the Category View of Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs, and then click Remove a program.
    9. Click Windows Media Format Runtime, and then click Remove.
If Windows Media Format Runtime is not displayed in the list of currently installed programs, then try the following:
. At the top of the list, select the Show updates check box.
    2. In the Windows XP - Software Updates section, click Windows Media Format Runtime, and then click Change/Remove.
If you installed a non-US English version of Windows Media Player , the instructions in the dialog boxes that are mentioned in steps 9, 0, and might appear in English.
    0. In the first confirmation dialog box that appears, click OK.
. In the second confirmation dialog box that appears, select the Do you want to continue with the rollback? check box, and then click OK.
    2. When the rollback process is complete (it might take several minutes to complete), click Restart.
    3. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    4. In the Category View of Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs, and then click Remove a program.
    5. Click Microsoft User-Mode Driver Framework Feature Pack .0.0, and then click Remove.
    6. Follow the instructions that appear in the Software Update Removal Wizard.
If the Wudf0000 confirmation dialog box appears, click Yes to continue. When the software removal process is complete (it might take several minutes to complete), click Finish.
If you are still having problems and all else fails, do a System Restore to before WMP was installed.
*Note: If you remove Windows Media Player and the Windows Media Format Runtime, and then encounter error C00D27D ("A problem has occurred in the Digital Rights Management component. Contact Microsoft product support, you might be able to resolve the problem by installing the Windows Media Format 9.5 Runtime. For information about installing the Runtime, in the Microsoft Knowledge Base, see article 8922, "Update for Windows Media Digital Rights Management-enabled players."
**You might not be able to roll back to a previous version of the Player if the hidden folder $NtUninstallwmp$ is deleted from your computer. Some non-Microsoft programs (such as CCleaner) delete this folder in an attempt to remove unwanted files from your computer.

Some people have found these instructions to be a solution to the "Player Not Connected" Error when trying to update the firmware. (Your mileage may vary)
Note to Mods: This would make a nice sticky

OK. I've been having this problem and have probably read every post there is on the net concerning it. But it doesn't seem to be only a Media Player problem. I was only running Media Player 0 when it happened to me. I found the solution somewhere, I can't remember where, but it worked for me and it was easy.
    Here's what you do:
    . Download BOTH ZenXtra_PCFW_LA__20_08.exe and enXtraP4SAudible_PCFW_LB_2_0_03.exe
    2. Connect the Zen Xtra to your PC.
    3. Run ZenXtra_PCFW_LA__20_08.exe. When the window comes up and says that your device is not connected DON'T do ANYTHING! Just leave it there.
    4. Now run ZenXtraP4SAudible_PCFW_LB_2_0_03.exe
    5. It told me that I already had this version on my device did I still want to load it's I said yes and it went through the whole upgrade and now it works fine.

  • Quicktime and windows media player question??

i have sent a quicktime file of a spot i did for a client, they like it and have uploaded it to their website, but they are getting some that say they can not view it because they only use windows media player, i know this maybe a stupid question but how can i send them a copy they can use in media player so they have both?? thanks for you help!!!

you can buy and use the WMV Studio windows media export components from Flip4Mac which wil allow you to export to a windows media format directly from FCP and other suitable QT compliant apps ...
or you can copy the file over onto your own quicktime enabled PC and use the free, and much faster, windows media encoder there.

  • Audio sync different between QuickTime and Windows Media Player

I've run into a new problem I've never encountered before. When playing a video on QuickTime on a Windows PC, the audio is in perfect sync. However, when I play the same QT video on Windows Media Player, the audio is out of sync by as much as three seconds. The Windows software is current. The source content is created using ProTools 10 on a Mac running Yosemite, from an original QT mp4 converted to a .mov via quicktime for import into ProTools. The output was a standard .mov. I also tried converting it to an mp4 via QT, but the result was the same.
This is a pretty alarming discovery as I now have to test any videos bounced from ProTools on a PC Windows Media Player to make sure someone doesn't view it this way, with the audio sync appearing incorrectly.
Anybody know why this happened? Or how to prevent it in the future?

  • Software for converting quicktime to windows media player

I am having difficult converting a movie from Quicktime or even IMovie to a program that can be run on a Windows PC.

To convert to Windows Media Player (with .wmv extension), you will need one of the Paid versions of Flip4Mac.
Flip4Mac gives you the components you need. Use something like MPEG Streamclip to do the actual conversion.
If you just want to play it on a Windows PC, but don't care about Windows Media format, there are two ways to go.
    1) Just use SHARE/EXPORT MOVIE in the size you want. On the PC, you need to install QuickTime Player for Windows.
    2) You can also use SHARE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME. Choose Movie to MPEG4. Choose h.264 as the codec. With this option, it should play on Windows without the need for QuickTime Player to be installed.
