Windows Media Player or Real Player?

I've just recently switched over to Mac, though I'm still using my PC as well, so discrepancies between the two are gently rolling in the more I used my Macbook.
Ok. I visit the Amazon page, and I want to sample some songs from an album I'm interested in buying. My choices to listen are: Windows Media Player or Real Player. Is there nothing on a Mac that will substitute for one of these. I know Quicktime is a Mac product, but it is not always an option.
So, must I download either WMP or RP to listen to such clips? And, if so, which one?

Is there nothing on a Mac that will substitute for one of these.
There isn't for Real Player, no, since that format is proprietary to Real. For Windows Media content, install the Flip4Mac components.
BTW, for future questions about your Mac, you'll get the fastest and most accurate responses if you ask in the Mac forums (QuickTime for Mac OS, in this case).
Regards.

  • Real Player or Windows Media Player for iPhone

Does anyone know if it is possible to download an application which will allow me to play Real Player or Windows Media Player files from Safari on the iPhone?

Until the 2.0 software is released, it's not possible to download an application to your iPhone at all. Once the new software is out, it might be possible, but it will be up to Real, Microsoft or a third-party to develop such a player. I think the likelihood that Real or Microsoft will pony up to be very low. Whether someone else will, we'll have to wait and see.

  • Windows media player or real one player

I wanted to listen to some CD's before I bought them from the Amazon website. I was unable to listen, and the site asked me to either download windows media player or real one player. Which one works best the ImacG5, or which one is going to give me the least amount of problems?

ok. I really think my apple is too advanced for me and should have stayed with the pc.
Let me start in the beginning.
I went to Amazon and went to download a sample music file.
I clicked the real time player column three times and now have hurl.exe.ram, hurl-1.ece.ram, and hurl-2-exe.ram on my desk top.
I assume hurl.exe.ram means something. Is it coded for something. (Is there a book that will decode what Apple is trying to say in plain english?)
I went to my keyboard and pushed the Apple button, touched the "I" button and yes, it asked me where to open the file.
I went to open it in Itunes. But the only button on my screen appearing on the bottom is the word "cancel". It won't let me open the music file.
    Thanks for your patience.

  • Windows media player plugin is not working in firefox 4.if any one know what to do pls reply me

MY FRIEND SUGGESTED THIS TO ME
    I HAVE TRIED THIS
    BUT ITS WASTE
I CANT EVEN FIND ANYTHING AS
    WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER
I have had the same problem since I installed Firefox 4.0.
Thank you for letting us know that The RealPlayer plugin conflict, was the source of this problem.
Another way to fix this (for good) is doing the following:
    1) Click on "Tools">Options"
    2) Click on the "Applications" tab
    3) Search in the "Content Type" column, all the applications that start with the words "Windows Media." Click on the content that is listed to the right of each application's name and choose "Use Windows Media Player (default)."
By doing this, Firefox will avoid using the Windows Media Player plugin and will open the corresponding application directly with Windows Media Player.
I just did this and is working perfectly. Try it and let me know how it works for you.

I just saw this posted to the mozilla.support.firefox newsgroup in the topic,<br>

  • How do I play videos on my new mac that wont show in Quick Time?  windows media player

I just got a new imca - switching from a pc.  When I receive attachments etc that are not formatted for Quick Time, I can not open and play the video.  IS there some other software that I need onmy new Mac that will allow this?  Or is there some other configuration to the Mac's current configuration that I should be using?

First read this: Adding additional media format support to Quicktime:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3526
Download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer SP for Mac from:
    http://www.real.com/realplayer/mac
Flip4Mac WMV Player from  http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac-wmv/overview.htm  (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from  http://perian.org/
You should read this support page  http://perian.org/#support   in case you need to delete older codecs.  In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them), particularly any DivX extension to Safari. However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from  http://www.divx.com/en/software/mac/player

  • Windows Media Player (WMP) as plug-in in Safari

    Happy New Year All!
I'm having problems playing online/streaming media as a "plug-in" using Windows Media Player (WMP) within Safari 3.0.4. It works perfectly fine for my PowerBook. However, my MacBook would not work!
Not working would mean that an error message states "Some content on this page requires an Internet plug-in that Safari doesn’t support. The application “Windows Media Player” may be able to display this content. Would you like to try?" If I click on "OK", WMP would pop-up and play in a separate window - which I do not want! I would like my MacBook to play streaming media/content within Safari using WMP - like my PowerBook.
Hope someone can shed some light to my problem as I do not want to use "Flip4Mac" as an alternative, thanks!

I do not want to use "Flip4Mac" as an alternative
    Why?
Windows Media Player has not been supported by Microsoft for the Mac for a number of years, and they themselves refer you to Flip4Mac.
Whether it plays in your browser or a separate window is dependant on how the site is programmed.
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, QT 7.3 and OS 10.4.11. (If you are running Leopard, ensure that all plug-ins have been updated for OS 10.5)
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.9 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2 and then the latest version obtained from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash and installed.
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.)
In earlier versions than QT 7.1.3 in Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11 or Leopard, that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2007-009.1.1, which also deals with the Quicktime/Flash issues you may have experienced, such as the '?'. What happened was that both Quicktime as well as Adobe FlashPlayer tried to play the Flash video at the same time. This no longer happens. (N.B. Security Update 2007-009 requires both a restart and a permission repair.)
See also the very informative post from QuickTimeKirk dated Dec 3, 2007 in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1268489&tstart=0
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them).
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • Video Streaming in Windows media player won't play through Airport Extreme

Hello and thank you for reading my issue.
I have the current square shaped airport extreme base station. My mother has a Windows XP system on her Toshiba laptop and she takes an online class which has video streaming for the lectures. When we connect to the network wirelessly or with an ethernet cable through the base station, the video will not begin to buffer and won't play from the website. It just states ready and doesn't buffer. However, if we connect the laptop straight to our cable modem without the base station, the videos stream and play perfectly. Anybody know how we can fix this to play through the wireless network? Thanks a lot.
MacBook Pro 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I've played with all sorts of software settings and configurations. This is what worked for me, but I'm not sure how it would work for anyone else, or if the issues are even related, but here goes.
1 - Turn multicast rate to 1 MBPS in the drop down menu found in Airport Utility>Airport icon>Wireless Options Button.
2 - Turn off multicast in Windows Media Player or Real Player
3 - Turn on Video Overlay Optimization check box in Real Player.
These things worked for me, hopefully they will help or give you some ideas for your own situtation.

  • Emailing song to open with Windows Media Player

Does anyone know how to send a song from iTunes to someone as an email attachment that will be in a format Windows Media Player can open?
When I copy a song it always comes out as a Real Player file. I want it as a Windows Media Player appropriate file.

You're not going to be able to convert a m4a (which can be played in iTunes OR real player) file like that on the fly. Especially if it's a protected file that was purchased from the iTunes Store. If it wasn't purchased from the iTunes Store, you can find a converter program that will convert the files to WMA. Just google it -- I am sure they exist. From there, you can email it as a WMA.
Or, you could convert the song (if it's not protected) into an mp3 file within iTunes. The mp3 file could be email and opened within Windows Media player.

  • Windows Media Player For IMAC

so as not to bore anyone with why I had installed windows media player, I now do not need it, I installed real player instead....im digressing....anyways...i now want to delete wmp from my hard drive. i have dragged it into my trash but it will not delete it because it says it is locked. I have rebooted just to make sure nothing is running, but still will not delete from trash can...
    can anyone please help me.

    Try this..
highlight the windows media application and use finder file Get info. Under heading General see if the Locked box is checked, If so uncheck it. you should be able to trash it now.
Btw, Flip4Mac just came out w/ a Universal binary version that works under Quicktime and will open .wmv files in quicktime.

  • Realplayer or Windows Media Player for iPhone

iphone is working fine for listening to programs that are podcast, but a lot of the stuff i want to hear is only available on realplayer or windows media player. don't really want to sit at my computer and listen to it, would rather do it at work where wifi is available and can use the iphone, but these players are not supported. is there any news on when this might become available, or if apple is even working on this at all? if not, is there any way to save that kind of file in itunes and then get it onto the iphone. sorry if my tech-talk stinks

No way to know, though a RM or WM player would require Real and Microsoft to program one.
There is a chance this will happen with the SDK coming in Feb.
Those files can be converted to an iPhone format (ie Quicktime) providing you have a converter and there are no DRM restrictions in place in the file.

  • Plugin for Windows Media Player is not working with Firefox 4 on Windows 7

I updated my Firefox to the latest version 4 yesterday, but since this time seems plugin for Windows Media Player not working anymore. When I visit some website with embedded video - like [http://www.ta3.com/sk/live this] - the window with WMP is not displayed and no video is playing. The website reports: You don´t have any plugin for playing of this video.
I reinstalled the plugin for WMP several times - with no success. This problem is on all webpages with embedded video for WMP. The installation of WMP plugin is successfully finished, but no video is playing. I checked the “plugins“ folder in the installation directory of Firefox and everything seems to be OK. Where is also the problem? Please, help me with solving of this problem...

  • Uploading files from windows media player to itunes need help!

Some of the files WMA are protected some are not. When I uploaded itunes real player files transfered to itunes. How would I go in to change the settings in windows to unprotect the files to have them transfered to itunes. Help please

iTunes will not accept Window Media player tracks that are protected. If you imported them off your own CDs, did you check the option to apply protection to them? If so, your only choice is to re-rip those CDs.
