Windows Server (Exchange) Login on Mac OS X 10.6.5?

I have an odd question.
Here at work, my colleague is able to login to his MacBook using his MS Windows Server login info, he also get s PW expiration notifications and the ability to change the password through his Mac OS X login screen.
Meanwhile, I login using the same Mac OS X password I have had since receiving my Macbook, and have to change Webmail/Intranet passwords through MS Office Outlook Webmail.
Neither of us can find a difference in settings anywhere, and IT, whom setup both MacBooks, don't remember doing anything different. The only difference between the two, is that he has Parallels installed.
How do you set up a MacBook to use the MS Windows password?

Neither of us can find a difference in settings anywhere,
Your co-worker's Macbook is probably bound to the local Windows domain and your computer is not.

  • Is it possible to install and run Windows Server 2008 on a Mac Mini Server in a Virtual Machine software like Parallels

I am wondering if it is possible to install and run Windows Server 2008 on a Mac Mini Server as a VM as my main application uses Windows VisualBasic and Fox Pro and requires a Static IP to connect to it, My other offices connects to Windows Server via RDP.
Basically I am researching a Server for the same purpose and since Mac Mini and OsX both are robust in nature it can fit the bill if every thing work fine.
    Thanks

    From the Parallels website:

    Hi,
You need to configure folder redirection.
Folder redirection enables access local folders during the remote session. Click the + button at the bottom of the dialog and choose a folder you want to have
    redirected.
    Configure Folder Redirection:
    1. Click the + button.
    2. In the Add Local Folder window, enter the following information:

Name: Set a name for the folder to be available during the remote session.

Path: Select the path to the folder to be available during the remote session.
    3. Click the close button to save the remote desktop.

  • Untrusted apps are not allowed to connect to or launch Window Server before login.

I'm getting this with the Citrix Receiver uninstaller from the command line... but not on all Mountain Lion 10.8.5 systems.  Googling turns up a lot of ideas about a problem with the app or in pre/post-flight scripts, but since it works on some, I wonder.  What is the mechanism that generates this error?  I'm guessing there's some setting or condition that exists on one system that isn't true on the other.  How do I find out?

Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • How to install Windows Server 2012 on a Mac Mini

Well the title says it all. I am in a small apartment and am setting up my home network. I purchased a Mac Mini to run Apple OS X Server on and also make sure that I can pass the certification test for Apple. But I would also like to set up a Windows Domain Controller so that I can either:
Have a Mac Mini I can dual boot
    - or -
Purchase a second Mac Mini and just put Windows Server 2012 on it.
Now you might ask why buy a mac and run windows. Well for one I need to get my MS certs up to date and for another, I am space constrained and the Mini is nice, small, and fits perfect where I would set it.
I have tried this following boot camp and some other guides. However, when I boot it never sees the attached USB or it never boots from the attached USB.
I have placed the Windows partition on the secondard disk drive as well, not the primary. Do not know if this makes a defference, from what I read it should not.
Thanks in Advance for any advise, guidance, or sections to read. Maybe Apple will officially support Windows 8 which should retroactively support 2012 before year end.

Not really sure what to say except that it worked perfectly on my MacBook Pro.  Like you, I need to update my Certs.  I have a working SQL Server wherever I go w/o need to buy another laptop.  I installed from DVD.
    good luck.

  • Using Shared Review via Network Folder on Windows server and PC and Mac users commenting

We are having initiation and connection problems on the Macs (running OS 10.6.4 Snow Leopard)  with Shared Reviews (from Acrobat 9) that are stored on a Windows 2008 Server connecting via SMB. I would be very interested to hear from anyone who is successfully:
    1) Initiating Shared Reviews from a Macintosh via "Automatically collect comments on my own internal server" and navigating to a folder (with full read/write permissions for all) on a Windows server. We cannot get Acrobat (via the automated SR set-up wizard) to verify the network folder location on the Macs so that a Mac user can initiate a Shared Review. On Windows (using Parallels or logging in to a PC directly), the same users have no problem initiating and accessing Shared Reviews.
    2) Accessing Shared Reviews on a network folder (set up on a Windows 2008 server) via a Mac running OSX 10.6.4 and Acrobat 9. All users have read/write access to the folder and can navigate to it via the server. They can save documents to the network folder and open other documents there as well. When they open a Shared Review-enabled PDF for commenting, they get the error message that Acrobat cannot connect to the server. Retry results in the same error message.
We use Shared Reviews extensively and have no problems with PC users accessing the files and Mac users accessing them via Windows (Parallels or on a PC). This is very frustrating so I would really appreciate any ideas, especially if anyone is actually doing Shared Reviews this way.
    Thanks.

Unfortunately, this is NOT fixed based on the testing I have done.
    1) I am still unable to connect to the network folder on a Windows server from the Mac to initiate a Shared Review In Acrobat version 9.4.6. Same error message as previous Unable to locate server. See screenshot:
    2) One of the Mac users (also upgraded to Acrobat 9.4.6) who was invited to participate in a Shared Review (initiated using Parallels/Windows) was initially able to open the file and Publish comments. However, after she did and closed the file, she was unable to reopen the same file, connect to the server and add comments. And no other Mac user could access the file after she added her first comments. We all got the error message "Unable to connect etc" See screenshot.
    3) I opened the same file in Parallels/Windows with no problem. However, the Mac user's comments were not there. I could add comments and publish in Windows.
    4) When I tried to access the Tracker from my Mac (review was initiated via Parallels), I got the error message File not Found when I tried to access the test review via my Mac (see screenshot).
Could you give me more information about the fix? I would also be happy to talk to you or send more details if that would help.
Our set up has not changed from the original information I sent (there may have been some Mac updates -- we are all on OS 10.6.8 but still Snow Leopard). Server has not changed.

Whenever I try to login to our Exchange Server, I receive the following error:
"The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded."
The issue affects more than one user.
    Relevant Info:
    Server Version: 2012 Datacenter
    Exchange Version: 2013
    The Exchange server is virtualized.
    What I've tried:
    1) Remote Desktop from a workstation on the network
    2) Remote Desktop from Virtual Machine Manager
    3) Connect via console from Virtual Machine Manager
    4) Accessing the server via Computer Management and adding my user account to Allow Login via Remote Desktop
    5) Creating a new user account for myself by copying the account of a user who can get in
    6) Rebooting
    I'd appreciate any suggestions.

  • Can't connect to SMB share on Windows server from only ONE mac

I have over 20 macs on my network. All are running the same version of the OS. (10.4.9) Almost all of the macs can connect, using SMB, to our Windows 2000 file servers...but only ONE of them can not. When I try from that mac, I get the following error:
"The finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "smb://myservername" could not be read or written. (Error code -36)"
This same mac that has this issue can connect to any of our other Win2K file servers and all my other macs can connect to the server that this mac can't...which is very confusing for me because that tells me that the mac is fine and the Win2K server is fine as well...
    Any ideas?

-36 is a bit generic, but usually means the Windows® machine is denying because of bad Password. Have you tried deleting that particular reference/share in Keychain Access and redoing it?

  • Macs will not show up on DNS Windows Server 2008 R2

In our office, we have a Windows Server Infrastructure with several Macs (Imacs, mac pros, macbook airs etc).
Active Directory and DNS is running off a Windows Server 2008 R2 Server, with DHCP on a Cisco Router.
DHCP is configured to direct all DNS entries to the Windows DNS Server.
The problem that I'm having is that, while all windows machines show up on the Windows DNS Server, None of the Macs are registered. Macs are able to utilize the DNS Server correctly, but will not register on the DNS Listings.
Because I cannot access or ping Macs via their hostname, I cannot tell our third party backup software to point to a particular machine. Our workstations are all DHCP enabled, and since assigning a static ip to all the Macs here is not an option, I need to get this working, so that I can get our macs backing up.
I've followed a few similar articles, but they appear to be for older 2003 servers, which the 2008 R2 servers do not have those options. I do not want to join the Macs onto the windows domain, I merely want to get them registered on our DNS server.
The mac operating systems vary between Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion

    Thanks,
    Rboelens

I'm pretty sure that the DNS registration stuff is part of the Active Directory plug-in on OS X.  I'd recommend you give it a try.
GPOs are not enforced on the Macs if they're bound to Active Directory, _unless_ you've extended the Active Directory schema (which is a lot of work).  The main benefits to joining Macs to AD ar:
    * Centralized password management and policies (as you've defined in AD).
    * Single sign-on to various kerberized resources (i.e. Windows share points and internal web pages if you're using IIS and you use Kerberos to secure them, rather than NTLM).
Here's an Apple white paper which may help.  I would recommend you read this carefully and then decide whether or not you want to bind the Macs to AD.  I'd also recommend you test with a bound Mac to see if resolves this "host name in DNS" issue... I suspect it will.

Seems possible although I would say one needs some care to ensure that the cooling systems operate as needed.

  • Problems with the shared files of Windows Server 2003 and Mac

I have some Mac computers in the domain of my LAN Network, and when I share a folder in Windows Server 2003 sometimes the Mac can not see and sometimes yes, but lasts a long time so that they can view folders. I have installed the protocol Apple Talk on the server and File Server and in the Domain Server.
The folders when users have no security users or groups are immediately with a connection AFP, but if they have not already created security can be displayed with a connection AFP, but if you can visualize a connection with SMB, but I can not work with Quark 6.0 Pro files.
What can I do to solve this problem.

    The newer printers:
    canon irc3100
canon ir5020-i have working on osx side, not in classic
    Older printers:
    hp laserjet 5m-2 of these
    hp 2200
    hp laserjet 5si-2 of these
    hp laserjet 4100
These are installed on windows 2003 with mac print services running. I need to know what option i should use in osx when installing these network printers on these macs. When i go to printers folder, i chose windows printing then it prompts for the ppd file. I found it for the ir5020 but not the ir3100. I really need to test the hp laserjets in osx too. Ill post up when i test those. But that one canon (ir3100) is bothering me. They are roughly the same age and the drivers on the site don't seem to work.

  • Mac G5 10.4 connecting to Windows Server 2003 finder windows NOT refreshing

We are not seeing finder contents refresh when connecting to Windows 2003 servers. We are running 10.4.5. This was supposedly "fixed" in 10.4 but we haven't seen it work yet. Who do we contact for support on this? I've tried using "Contextual Menu" which didn't work, and also tried "Finder Sync" which also didn't work. The only thing that did work was Path Finder. Path Finder did provide an auto-refresh but I don't like Path Finder and we won't buy it.
Who do we contact at Apple about this? Or does anyone have any experience like this?
    Thanks very much!

I have the same problem and I did public it in another forum.
Someone told me to write an Applescript like this:
    tell application "Finder"
    tell front window
    update every item with necessity
    end tell
    end tell
Copy it, open Script Editor and save it as an executable application in your Utilities folder. Now put shortcuts to it in your Dock or your Sidebar or whereever. When you run it, the front most windows in the Finder will be refreshed to its most current state from disk.
I tried it but it doesn't help so much. I have no problem at all when I work with Windows Server 2000.

  • Joining Win2K3 Server/AD to a Mac OS X Server OD Master

    Has anyone tried this setup?
Basically, we'd like to set up Mac OS X Server 10.5 Leopard to be an Open Directory Master, iCal Server, and LDAP server to some services such as subversion authentication.
We also have a need to have a Windows 2003 Server running Active Directory for Sharepoint Server. I'm having problems trying to bind a Windows Server to an Open Directory Master (My DNS is set up along with the appropriate SRV records as documented by:
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/archive/interopmigration/linux/mvc/cfgbind.mspx ?mfr=true
I configured BIND manually because the OS X DNS Admin app doesn't seem to be able to set up SRV records properly nor have a way to enable secure dynamic updates".
Whenever I try to bind the Win2K3 Server to the Open Directory, it always fails. Does anyone know if it's possible to join a Win2K3 server to the Open Directory Master in a way that fools the Windows server into thinking the Mac is an AD server? One important note: I have NOT enabled Windows PDC on the Mac. which is based on NT and not AD.

    Hello,
I'm sorry I don't have an answer to your post, but I just wanted to say I am trying to setup exactly the same thing.
If I manage to get it working, I'll post and let you know.
The one thing I can add is that when I was setting up a W2K3 server to use a linux based DNS server, I had to add "check-names warn;" to the Bind config file.
The problem is that the DNS names Microsoft try to register break certain naming standards, and I set it to give a warning instead of a fatal error.
I have no idea if that is relevant to your setup, but I know I needed to do it to get my Bind working with W2K3.

  • IMacs running slow off Windows Server 2008

Currently the Creative Director and I are the only ones at our company working on Macs. We both are running OSX 10.6.8 on iMacs and we are having major slow loading time in Finder and very, very slow loading time working with Adobe files (PSDs/AIs/INDDs).
The company I work for has been bought out by another company and they had their tech guys come in to install a server.. I have recently found out that it is a Windows Server 2008. We were told to transfer our files to this server and ever since have been having problems. I have tried to communicate with some of the techs and they either complain about Macs or are not that familiar with Macs. They don't have any other designers at their company, so I am not sure how to get them to understand the issue.
I have done some research and found others with similar problems, but I am not really finding a solution or a discussion that is very recent. I think this is a problem that has been around for awhile, but we are new to it. The problem seems to be with the SMB sharing.
We would be grateful if anyone had any insight or infomation regarding working off a Windows Server 2008 from a Mac or whether we should recommend us working off a Mac Server which is backed up to the main server.
    Thanks!
    Aa

    Appreciate it Ed.
I let our boss know about Extreme ZIP and forwarded the link to our IT team. Although we haven't gotten a response back yet, I am thinking that a mac server would be a cheaper purchase overall since it wouldn't be a reoccuring monthly charge.
If we were to convert one an extra Mac Pros to a Lion Server, is it possible to have that backed up or connected to the Windows Server 2008? Or would we need to do that the Mac Pro. Not sure how to word this, my lack of experience in servers shines through here.
Really trying to save us from switching to PCs, thinking if we can convert the Mac Pro to a Lion Server it would be our least expenseive route.
    Thanks again,
    Aaron
