Windows service on 10.5.8 server

Just went to turn on Windows service in Server Admin on a 10.5.8 server....Did not see a the Windows service as it appears on my other 10.3 and 10.4 servers...Does SMB replace this service?

SMB and CIFS and Samba are all names associated with network disk services used with Microsoft Windows platforms, yes.

  • How to log when windows service is being stopped by server restart c#

    I want to handle when windows service is killed by task manager or by system restart.
    I tried using below handler inside Timer_Elapsed method of the service timer
    public void Start()
    AppDomain.CurrentDomain.UnhandledException += CurrentDomain_UnhandledException;

    _myTimer.Elapsed += OnElapsed;

    private void OnElapsed(object sender, ElapsedEventArgs e)
    try
    _myTimer.Stop();
    //Work
    finally
    _myTimer.Start();
    and even I have placed the same into Main() method of the console as I am using Topshelf for windows service.
    static void Main(string[] args)
    AppDomain.CurrentDomain.UnhandledException += CurrentDomain_UnhandledException;
    var exitCode = HostFactory.Run(hostConfigurator =>

    private static void CurrentDomain_UnhandledException(object sender, UnhandledExceptionEventArgs e)
    File.AppendAllText(@"C:\Crash.txt", "Main Termination");
    In either scenario the handler is not getting called when I kill the windows service process from task manager or system restart. Even TopShelf is not logging "UnhandledServiceException" exit code.
    I have searched for all possible ways but no luck. Could any one please help me in this.
    Thanks

    Hello RamJS,
    You could have a try to use the Process.Exited Event to handle such process end log:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.diagnostics.process.exited(v=vs.110).aspx
    The Exited event indicates that the associated process exited. This occurrence means either that the process terminated (aborted) or successfully closed. This event can occur only if the value of the
    EnableRaisingEvents property is
    true.

  • Questions about Windows services on a OS X 10.3 server

    Hi! I'm wanting to configure an OS X 10.3 server to participate in a Windows workgroup so I can share a directory on the server that the Windows machine can use as a backup drive, of sorts. I've got only ONE Windows box in an all-Mac network. The ultimate goal is to provide an automated backup solution for the Windows machine. I would like the Windows user to copy their files to the server so the scheduled Backup running on the server will backup their files, along with the rest of the files that are backed up to iDisk.
    So, I'm thinking I can use the Windows service on the OS X server to provide the backup directory/folder the Windows machine will map to a local windows drive, making it easy to copy files to the target backup area.
    I've got AFP, OpenDirectory (I think), and Windows service as the only services running on the OS X server. I've got the Windows service setup as a standalone server with the correct workgroup name and the Windows machine is setup with the same workgroup as the server. The Windows machine is running Windows XP.
    I've got the Windows service setup to act as the workgroup browse master and I do NOT have WINS enabled.
    Now for my questions:
    When I view the workgroup on the server in the "Network" area of Finder, I see nothing. When I view the workgroup on the Windows machine, I only see the Windows machine. On the server, I turned on the Windows service log and noticed only SMBD was starting, not NMBD. I presume this is why the server can't "see" the Windows machine and vice-versa, correct?
    I've read the following threads:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2358362&#2358362
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4132419&#4132419
    and it looks like I need to create an account for the Windows user on the OS X server and I'm thinking I need to use the "Workgroup Manager" for that, right?
    There are no passwords for the Windows accounts that would be connecting to the same backup area on the server. Will I be able to create accounts without passwords on the server for these users or will I be required to specify a password for when the Windows machine connects to the server?
    This is my first time configuring an OS X server like this so please excuse my elementary questions.
    Thanks!
    Peace...

    You need to make sure the shortname in workgroup manager is the same as the logon name when you create the drive on the PC.
    Personally i'd do it all over IP. On the PC goto Run, and type \\ip address of server\sharename. It should then ask for a UN/PW, this is what you've entered into workgroup manager, and should be the shortname.
    That should then give you the drive.
    To map it so its always there when they log-in, goto my computer and map network drive, making sure you click the link that says 'use a different account to connect'

  • Conver weblogic Admin server to a windows service

    I used the following scripts to conver weblogic Admin server to a windows service :
    SETLOCAL
    set DOMAIN_NAME=Sayesaman
    set USERDOMAIN_HOME=C:\jdev11.1.1.6\user_projects\domains\Sayesaman
    set SERVER_NAME=Sayesaman
    set WL_HOME=C:\jdev11.1.1.6\wlserver_10.3
    set WLS_USER=weblogic
    set WLS_PW=weblogic110
    set PRODUCTION_MODE=false
    set MEM_ARGS=-Xms512m –Xmx512m
    call "C:\jdev11.1.1.6\wlserver_10.3\server\bin\installSvc.cmd"
    ENDLOCAL
    after running these scripts the windows service created successfully and running properly .
    but the state of all web application is failed and even I can't deploy any web application and I get the following error :
    Class Not Found : oracle.dms.wls.DMSServletFilterr
    Please help me to conver weblogic Admin server to a windows service correctly .
    Edited by: 950222 on Aug 1, 2012 2:46 AM

    Request you to share the entire stack of error.
    Meanwhile,I would recommend that you deleet the existing service created and re-create the service by following the below steps:-
    1. Create a text file
    %MIDDLEWARE_HOME%\user_projects\domains\servers\AdminServer\security\boot.properties
    Add the following lines
    username=weblogic
    password=
    Important to Note:
    a. If this step is not performed you will see the following generic error when the Admin Server is started in " background mode " via an MS Windows Service.
    BEA-090403 Authentication for user weblogic denied
    This error occurs because, by default, startup of Admin Server interactively prompts for the weblogic username and password. If the password is not supplied the error is thrown.
    b. As soon as you start the Admin Server the username and password values in this file will be encrypted. Be sure to stop / start the Admin Server as soon as possible to ensure the credentials are not exposed for longer than necessary.
    2. Create a command script called installAdmServer_Service.cmd which has lines like
    SETLOCAL
    set DOMAIN_NAME=ClassicDomain
    set USERDOMAIN_HOME=C:\middleware\FMW11g\user_projects\domains\ClassicDomain
    set SERVER_NAME=AdminServer
    set PRODUCTION_MODE=true
    cd %USERDOMAIN_HOME%
    call %USERDOMAIN_HOME%\bin\setDomainEnv.cmd
    call "C:\middleware\FMW11g\wlserver_10.3\server\bin\installSvc.cmd"
    ENDLOCAL
    3. For troubleshooting / debugging purposes it is helpful to redirect standard out and error to a text file. Although most information is captured in the AdminServer server log files, you will not see all standard out and error when the server is started via a MS Windows Service (unlike when you start an AdminServer from the command prompt using startWebLogic.cmd). To redirect standard out to a text file, backup and edit installSvc.cmd and change the line at the bottom of the file so it include the -log parameter e.g
    "%WL_HOME%\server\bin\beasvc" -install
    -svcname:"%DOMAIN_NAME%_%SERVER_NAME%"
    -javahome:"%JAVA_HOME%" -execdir:"%USERDOMAIN_HOME%"
    -extrapath:"%WL_HOME%\server\bin" -password:"%WLS_PW%"
    -cmdline:%CMDLINE%
    -log:"C:\Middleware\FMW11g\user_projects\domains\ClassicDomain\%SERVER_NAME%-stdout.txt"
    4. Now run "installAdmServer_Service.cmd". The Service should be installed, it will have a name like ""beasvc %DOMAIN_NAME%_%SERVER_NAME%" e.g
    beasvc ClassicDomain_AdminServer
    The Service "Startup Type" will be 'Automatic'. Just like any other MS Windows Service you can change the 'Startup Type' to 'Manual'.
    Start the Service. The Service will come back fairly quickly to say it is started. The actual time taken for AdminServer to start and reach a state of 'RUNNING' will be longer - perhaps two or three minutes. The state of the server can be monitored by reviewing the stdout txt file.
    Notes:
    An alternative to the boot.properties approach to specifying the Admin Server weblogic username / password is to add the following environment variables to your wrapper cmd script - installAdmServer_Service.cmd
    set WLS_USER=weblogic
    set WLS_PW=manager11g
    The beasvc utility encrypts the login credentials and stores them in the Windows registry.
    This is one of two possible methods for avoiding the username/password prompt when a server instance starts. The disadvantage to this method is that changing the username or password for the server instance requires you to delete the Windows service and set up a new one with the new username and password. Instead of this method, you can use a boot identity file. With a boot identity file, you can change the login credentials without needing to modify the Windows service.
    Create a MS Windows Service for a Managed Server e.g WLS_FORMS
    Important to Note:
    1. The ADMIN_URL value should reference the AdminServer hostname and listen port.
    2. The SERVER_NAME value is case sensitive. For example, if you are creating a MS Windows service for a different managed server such as 'wls_ods1' then the value needs to match the case of the server name otherwise the startup of the server via the MS Windows service will fail.
    3. Be careful that there are no trailing spaces after each line in the command file - trailing spaces will cause the managed server to fail at startup. For example a trailing space in the ADMIN_URL value will result in the error
    <Error> <EmbeddedLDAP> <BEA-171524> <Cannot determine the Listen address for the Admin server
    3. Now run "installAdmServer_Service.cmd". The Service should be installed, it will have a name like ""beasvc %DOMAIN_NAME%_%SERVER_NAME%" e.g
    beasvc ClassicDomain_AdmServer
    The Service "Startup Type" will be 'Automatic'. Just like any other MS Windows Service you can change the 'Startup Type' to 'Manual'.
    Start the Service. The Service will come back fairly quickly to say it is started. The actual time taken for the managed server to start and reach a state of 'RUNNING' will be longer - perhaps two or three minutes. The state of the server can be monitored by reviewing the stdout txt file.
    Hope this helps!

  • Provide WCF service caller to a SQL server that is access by a technical user account

    Hi,
    we have a WCF Service that is hosted in a windows service and access a SQL Server database. The database is accessed with the technical user the windows service runs with. That means nevertheless of the WCF service caller, the database is always
    accessed in context of the technical user. Furthermore some company users access the database via the SQL Management Studio and sign in via Windows Authentication.
    The management now wants us to provide a change log functionality. In case data is changed by the WCF service the caller should be logged. In case of using the SQL Management Studio the domain-user's account should be logged.
    Because both ways must be supported we want to use a table trigge to monitor insert/update/delete ddl events, but we got struggled by passing the WCF service caller to the SQL server database.
    Does anyone have a good idea for the issue? Any advice is appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    Christian

    Do you know a way to use the 'SET CONTEXT_INFO' expression wth LINQ2SQL?
    This is a T-SQL forum. There are other forms for LINQ.
    No, I don't know LINQ. Then again, why on earth would you? This would be a command you would submit when the WCF connects. Ah, of course, you are only connecting when you submit a query. Which you do through LINQ. Oh well. Could be an incitement to move
    away from LINQ maybe? :-)

  • Install webLogic 10.3.5.0 as windows Service

    Hi there;
    Looking for install webLogic as windows service; I found some papers that points me to "WL_HOME\server\bin\installSvc.cmd"
    as we can see here in [On-Line Manual References|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21764_01/web.1111/e13708/winservice.htm#START143]
    But; the fact is that in my wl_home\server\bin directory I can't see installSvc.cmd ;
    wl_home\server is not there any way;
    I have wl_home\serverS instead of it ;
    Any tips to configure webLogic 10.3.5.0 as windows service ?
    Foward thanks
    Marcos Ortega

    Hi Marcos,
    Since you were looking in your domain directory, note that you can innstall WLS components like node manager, admin server and managed servers as Windows services (which might be what you are trying to achieve).
    - For Node Manager you have the cmd file at WL_HOME\server\bin\installNodeMgrSvc.cmd
    - To create a Windows service for the Admin Server:
    1. Create a text file named %MIDDLEWARE_HOME%\user_projects\domains\<domain name>\servers\AdminServer\security\boot.properties. Add the following lines:
    username=weblogic
    password=<the weblogic username password>
    2. Create a command script called installAdmServer_Service.cmd which you will want to make sure has lines like:
    SETLOCAL
    set DOMAIN_NAME=<your wls domain>
    set USERDOMAIN_HOME=<path to domain> # e.g., C:\middleware\FMW11g\user_projects\domains\ClassicDomain
    set SERVER_NAME=AdminServer
    set PRODUCTION_MODE=true
    cd %USERDOMAIN_HOME%
    call %USERDOMAIN_HOME%\bin\setDomainEnv.cmd
    call "<your middleware home>\wlserver_10.3\server\bin\installSvc.cmd"
    ENDLOCAL
    3. Then run "installAdmServer_Service.cmd", the Service should be installed. It will have a name like "beasvc %DOMAIN_NAME%_%SERVER_NAME%" (e.g. beasvc ClassicDomain_AdminServer). The Service "Startup Type" shouldl be "Automatic".
    - To create a Windows service for the Managed Server:
    1. Create a text file named %MIDDLEWARE_HOME%\user_projects\domains\<domain name>\servers\[managed_server_name]\security\boot.properties. Add the following lines:
    username=weblogic
    password=<the weblogic username password e.g manager11g>
    2. Create a command script called installWLSFORMS_Service.cmd which has lines like
    SETLOCAL
    set DOMAIN_NAME=<your wls domain>
    set USERDOMAIN_HOME=<path to domain> # e.g. C:\middleware\FMW11g\user_projects\domains\ClassicDomain
    set SERVER_NAME=WLS_FORMS
    set PRODUCTION_MODE=true
    set ADMIN_URL=http://mymachine.mycompany.com:7001
    cd %USERDOMAIN_HOME%
    call %USERDOMAIN_HOME%\bin\setDomainEnv.cmd
    call "<your middleware home>\wlserver_10.3\server\bin\installSvc.cmd"
    ENDLOCAL
    3. Then run "installWLSFORMS_Service.cmd", the Service should be installed and it will have a name like "beasvc %DOMAIN_NAME%_%SERVER_NAME%" (e.g. beasvc ClassicDomain_WLS_FORMS). The Service "Startup Type" will be "Automatic".
    Some warnings:
    - The ADMIN_URL value should reference the AdminServer hostname and listen port.
    - The SERVER_NAME value is case sensitive. For example, if you are creating a MS Windows service for a different managed server such as 'wls_ods1' then the value needs to match the case of the server name otherwise the startup of the server via the MS Windows service will fail.
    - Be careful that there are no trailing spaces after each line in the command file - trailing spaces will cause the managed server to fail at startup.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to get a Thread Dump from Windows Service?

    We're running WLS 8.1 as a Windows Service, but we can't seem to generate a Thread Dump when the server locks up (apparently).
    Can anybody recommend a wrapper that will do this?
    --Kurt

    Hi,
    Please refer to the following URL for more information http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs81/adminguide/winservice.html
    To cause the WebLogic Server instance to print a thread dump to standard out, do either of the following:
    Use the weblogic.Admin THREAD_DUMP command. For more information, refer to "THREAD_DUMP" in the WebLogic Server Command Reference.
    Open a command prompt and enter the following command:
    WL_HOME\bin\beasvc -dump -svcname:service-name
    where WL_HOME is the directory in which you installed WebLogic Server and
    service-name is the Windows service that is running a server instance.
    For example:
    D:\bea\weblogic81\server\bin\beasvc -dump -svcname:mydomain_myserver

  • Permissions for Windows Service on Server

    Post Author: bdimon
    CA Forum: Authentication
    I wrote a Windows service running as an Active Directory user. It cannot print on the Windows Server so I wrote a windows application to test the permissions. When a user with local admin rights runs the test application, it prints. He starts the program using the "Run As" option and enters the Active Directory user from the service, he gets the same error as the Windows Service gets. This must be permissions-based.
    When I installed this Windows Service on a staging server, everything was fine. However the staging server was not "secured" by the network team so the Active Directory user had Read/Execute permissions on the C: drive. I do not want to ask for these permissions on the production server's C: drive.
    The error is:
    System.Exception: Load report failed. ---> System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x800002AD): Error in File UNKNOWN.RPT:

    I believe I'm having a similar problem, and was hoping to see if either you have found an answer to the problem or reactivate this thread in hopes someone will finally answer us.I'm creating reports using a windows service as well.  The report files are compiled into the DLL, and they are being exported to save them to disk.   The error is being generated when the report object is first accessed (which happens to be when attempting to set the Text property on a TextObject).  It works fine on my development machine.  I've installed the service on the production server using a Visual Studio 2005 Setup and Deployment project.  I added the 2005 Crystal merge module to the setup, so all necessary files should exist on the server.  The service is running as a domain user that has admin rights on the local machine, but we're still getting this error that seems, according to posts I've found online, to be a permissions issue.Here is the exception in its entirety:

    Have you checked the Print Service log in event viewer?
    Here's How.
    I have the Microsoft XPS driver on my clients, so I use that fact to my advantage below.
    Click Start Button/Administrative Tools/Remote Desktop Services/Remote Desktop Services Manager on the RDSH server
    Click the Sessions tab.  PC’s are listed Under Client Name by their computer name.  Take Note of the corresponding
    ID.  We will use this to locate the Printer information in the Event Log.
    In the Event Log open Application and Services Logs/Microsoft/Windows/Print Service/Admin/ and Find the Event ID 823 entry that has the corresponding ID from the sessions tab you previously noted.
    This Event Log Entry is created at Logon and you can only get the session ID when they are logged in.
    This tells you what client printer was mapped for the client.  The name that appears is the name of the Printer that was set on the client when the printer was installed.
    See if you see any errors here.
    If you see Event Id 823 with the following message “The default printer was changed to Microsoft XPS Document Writer,winspool,Ne00:. See the event user data for context information.”  Twice in a row with no other messages in between, and the first occurs
    at the time the user logged in, then their printer was not properly redirected.
    You see the Microsoft XPS driver mapped for each session prior to Easy Print redirecting the client machine’s Default Printer.
    Since your printer is the HP 1020 I would bet the driver on the client does not work with Easyprint.  I would try the  the HP Universal Print Driver or the driver for a printer that is very close, like the HP 1018.
    Thanks,
    Jeremy

  • Unable to start Admin Server as a windows service

    I installed Admin Server as a windows service and when I started it, I got the below errors. Do you have any ideas?
    I'm using SOA Suite 11.1.1.2.0 and WL 10.3.2 on Windows

    Hi,
    If you see your logs, you server has actually started in "RUNNING" mode. Its only throwing lot of "ClassNotFoundException" because I guess they classes are not available in classpaths. If you know the "jar" which contains which are being complained, copy the jar files to "DOMAIN_HOME/lib" which is simple way to add jars to classpath.

  • BPEL server as Windows Service

    Hi there,
    Can you tell me how to install the BPEL server (OC4J) as a Windows Service so that it can be started and stopped through the Windows ServiceManager.
    I cant find any documentation about this.....
    thx
    Mark

    Hallo Edwin,
    I´m also trying to install the BPEL Server as a Windows Serivce with Windows XP. Are there any samples, that show how to do that? The solution that is provided here is quite uncomfortable.
    Thanks for any help.

  • SQL Server Agent Windows Service

    I have created a override for parameter, Alert only if service startup type is automatic in monitor SQL Server Agent Windows Service to false, as my SQL Admin informs that this service startup type is Manual. As SQL servers are clustered, even SQL agent
    service runs on even node and odd SQL agent service runs on the odd node. Should this resolve the issue my SQL Admin's are complaining they were not receiving notifications for SQL Agent stopping. Or, should it create noise as I should expect alerts from odd
    SQL Agent service that are not running on even node and vice versa.
    From SQL Server end,
    Thanks, Harry :-)

    Hi,
    The below article should be helpful:

  • SQL server Analysis Windows service Alerts on cluster nodes

    Hi,
    I was wondering if others may be experiencing the same issue with the SQL Server MP.
    We are monitoring SQL server Analysis Service using monitor SQL Server Analysis Service Windows Service.
    We had overrided “Alert only if service startup type is automatic”
    option to false.
    It will create the false alerts from the other nodes in the cluster on which service is not running, but since it's in clustered configuration, it should not generate alerts from other node as it's running on another node on the same cluster.
    Please share if anyone has been through this issue and any remediation for this kind of issue.
    Regards,
    Daya Ram

    Hi,
    Here is a similar thread for your reference, in the thread, this issue has been confirmed as bug, and the poster provided a work arround for it, please try the work around:
