Windows users and iWeb

Hey everyone,
I've been watching the threads pretty close the last few days hoping this would come up, but haven't seen it so far; has anyone figured out a way for folks using Windows PC's to post to a .Mac blog site? I really would like to create a family blog with iWeb but I'm the only Mac user...everyone else still has blinders on. Would iComment offer any solutions? I've seen some pretty impressive creations from you guys lately, so I know if it can be done, you can tell me how...Thanks

iComment would be useful to post comments to your blog, but not to add the posts themselves. Maybe you should be looking at the Groups feature of .Mac.

  • How to create windows users and groups from Java

    Hi,
Can any one please tell me, which Package/API will helps to create windows users and groups from Java.
    Thanks,
    M.Prem.

You can't do it with pure Java, and it's not in the core API. You'd have to write a native function to do it, using whatever API Windows provides, and then call it with JNI. Or look for a third party native-based Java library that already does that.

Watch the Apple Online Store’s refurb section for non-Retina 2012 models. The 2.9 GHz model is a very nice machine and there were some available within the past week. Check daily, because they go fast. I bought one last summer and I love it, but I am not playing games on it. B&H Photo still has some 2012 models, also.

I don't like the 'non-retina' MacBooks, why downgrade when for £100-£200 more you can get a retina Mac which looks and feels 100x better.
It's hardly a downgrade to those of us who care about being able to upgrade our Macs ourselves if and when we need or want to do so. For me, having a FW800 port is also a consideration.

  • Windows Users and Apple Products

Hi. I use both Mac and PC. I like them both. I have two iPhones and for reasons, will be using them with PCs. I think its cool that there is so much Apple technology that works with PCs like the iPhone, Mobile Me, Bonjour, iTunes, etc. In fact, if they ever made iWork and iLife for PC, I'd buy that too.
Question: Does anyone one know of a community, blog or website that focuses on PC/Windows users that like Apple technology? That would be very cool.
    Kindest.

Hmmm. For iPods and iPhones and iTunes, there's specific Windows information and forums at iLounge:
    http://www.ilounge.com/
They go a bit beyond the general troubleshooting advice that gets offered here in the Windows-specific forums at Discussions.

  • Windows users and iphoto 7 library

is there a way that lets windows users to see the pic in iphoto library other than .Mac solution?

If you use a referenced library (not a very good idea IMHO) you could have the original photos in a folder that windows could access - but it brings on many problems including they window user will not see the modified versions, you have to manage the originals (iPhoto does not delete them, etc) and if you delete one that have not been deleted from iPhoto or move the folder to a new location or buy a new computer or ... you have a mess
A partial solution but, IMHO, not a good one

  • Windows users and open directory

Since Server for 10.7 I've found I've had to create Windows users as local users rather than local network users to give them access to shares via SMB. Is this correct, or am I missing something? I was aware that you can't bind a Windows PC to Open Directory, but can it not authenticate at all through OD?
    thanks

If I understand your question, then you are looking for a tool like Centrify.  This will put all management on one platform.

  • Can Window users see iWeb pages???

I have published a couple of pages which perfectly show using Safari. Since I started using iWeb I get all kinds of complaints from people using Windows. Does anybody know how to deal with this? I already advised them to buy a Mac but that seems to go a step to far at least for the moment (-:

Without some specifics about the problem it is really hard for anyone to provide useful help. You might do a search of this forum on "windows" to see the many messages already posted on the various possible issues.

  • Connect to a cube with Integrated WIndows Sercurity for Windows user with computer outside the domain

Hello,I am trying to connect to an MSSAS cube with a windows user ( and i need this user to be the end user that connect to the cube) from outside the domain. It will be .Net application.I use msmdpump.dll before but the thing is it impersonate the connection
so the user that connect to the Cube is not the real client user with is a problem for me because i like to manage the security throw roles.
SSRS is able to do what i am trying to achieve ( it ask you your domain user and password) then connect to the cube with these credential which is great, but i do that ?
With ADOMD.Net how do you provide windows user/password in the connection string ?
I tryed to only active windows security access with IIS and MSSAS but it's not working with a computer outside the domain even if in excel i provide a windows user/password.

  • Windows users doesn't work after migrating from old to new server!

We have done a complete re-install on our XServe with OD. We have about 10 Windows users, and after the installation all their settings and mail are gone. All the "normal" files are there though.
I'm not sure we have done it the right way though: We did a backup from the old server (a bootable copy with Super Duper), then we formatted and installed everything. We made new accounts (with different names if that's good to know) and copied the users home folders to the new location. The Mac clients seem to work good, but all the settings on the Windows clients are gone...
Is there an easier way to this? We still have the workable copy from the old installation. There seems to be some kind of export/import way to do this, but I haven't got a clue how to do that...
    Please help!

    davidh,
We didn't reintegrate smb.conf, but set the new server up just like the old one. We did however compare these files to see that the vital parts (netlogon, shares and so on, and of course basic settings) were correct.
We also copied the user files and profiles and made them identical on the new server, except for placing them under the new usernames.
Regarding the Local Settings folder, it doesn't exist on the old server, that's one of the weird things. We've checked the profile for a user on the client machine, and it is a roaming profile. That's why we're a bit puzzled as to why the login works and all files are there, but the user preferences and Outlook doesn't work.
I know I've read somewhere that the Local Settings aren't replicated like the other files in a roaming profile, but I haven't finished checking up on that. I wouldn't expect anything else than that Windows takes care of Outlook e-mail for a roaming profile as well though; I mean, the user must be able to read his/her mail from any computer in the domain, what else would the purpose of a roaming profile be?
Except for the weird thing about us not being able to find the user preferences or Outlook files for the client amongst the files on the server, I feel we're missing something; Apparently Windows isn't as straight forward as one would expect (not sure why I did expect anything, come to think of it).
We're going to give it a new go next weekend. Except for doing further research we're thinking of copying /etc/smb.conf and the files in /var/samba and /var/db/samba to the new server, along with exporting and importing the old user accounts to the new server, and then see if everything works as expected.
If so, we'll see if we can change the account names in a nice way, it's really desired to do so.
If not, we really need to do some more research, but if I'm not mistaking, the Samba-related files I just mentioned are the ones that pretty much make up the Windows Services in OS X, isn't that so?
    Thanks!

  • Lion-Windows users cannot see attachments

I just upgraded to Lion, and now some Windows users cannot see/find attachments. I did all that was advised (clicking on the "Windows user friendly" list), but to no avail. I sent to several Windows users and no one can see attachments with the new Mail program. Also, one of the most important icons in the Mail toolbar ("Add Attachment") seems to be missing. This sometimes helped in previous Mail versions when sending to PCs, but I cannot locate it in Lion. Looks like I will have to use Microsoft Office Outlook for email. This is too bad, as I like the other features the new Apple Mail program has, but must use a trustworhty email program.

    Scott,
The issue is one I am chasing, and is due to Lion's change to not send Plain Text (apparently).  Although changed in the Compose window, when reviewed, it will have been sent with HTML, anyway.
While the actual problem is with MS and Outlook or Outlook Express, the work around once was to use the command to Make Plain Text before sending.

  • Windows user migrating, need config advice

I'm a Windows user and making the switch.  (I already have a Macbook Air, so I'm not entirely green.)  I'm replacing a fairly powerful Windows machine and I'm trying to configure a Mac Pro that's relatively high powered.  I got about 5 yeaers out of the Windows machine and expect the same this time around.  Aside from standard office functions, my biggest use is Photoshop.  I'm really just looking for some feedback on the configuration and to see if I'm making any short sighted decisions or bad trade-offs.
I think I've settled on a 2 processor, 2.4Ghz model (8 cores) with 12Gb of memory.  I'm thinking a 512GB solid state primary system drive and (2) 2TB hard drives.  I can't use the Apple RAID controller if the array contains a solid state drive, so I won't do any mirroring or striping.  I really like the Apple 27" monitor, and I'm headed toward the Radeon 5870.  I have a couple of other monitors from my Windows machine so I think I'll hang one of them off of the DVI port and one off of a Mac display port with an adapter.  I'll end up with 3 monitors, with the "main" monitor the Apple monitor and the lesser quality units on either side.
Is it worth a processor upgrade?  While my primary use is photo editing, I'm not a professional photographer and won't be editing photos 8 hours a day.  How about the graphics card?  Is it worth the extra $$$ for the 5870?
    Would welcome feedback or suggestions.

The big payback is in establishing a Boot Drive. Having the Boot Drive on a fast Hard drive is an incremental improvement, and on an SSD is an additional incremental improvement -- not a major improvement, just a little bit better. I agree that it may not be worth the cost.
I can't use the Apple RAID controller if the array contains a solid state drive, so I won't do any mirroring or striping.
Disk Utility will Mirror or Stripe or JBOD without the needless complexity and excessive cost of the Apple RAID card. The Hatter swears by SoftRAID software,  US$129 for these tasks, and raves about its ability to recover and to probe for defects.
In 64-bit mode, you can address over 4GB RAM for a single Applications, which can almost completely eliminate the need to consider "Scratch drive" -- provided you add lots of Error-Correction Code (ECC)  RAM.
For best performance, each of System, Source, and Destination should have its own drive or RAID. Sharing a RAID between Source and Destination kills its peak performance.

  • Former Windows user

    Hi
I am a former Windows user and really like my Mac! COuple questions though:
    1. In Windows IE, you could type the site name, hit Ctrl ENTER, and IE would add the prefix 'Http://' and the suffix '.com' to whatever you typed. For instance: Myspace, Ctrl ENTER becomes Http://myspace.com. Can this be done on a Mac too?
    2. Whenever I am on a site and click the URL line, the cursor sits at the end of the line in append mode. I would like the whole URL line highlighted so that as I type, the full line gets replaced, instead of having to back space then type the new line.
    3. The DELETE key just deletes info to the left of the cursor. Is there a key combo that will delete from the point of the cursor to the right?
    Thanks
    Rich

    Hi Rich,
    1. Just hit Return- Safari (and Firefox) will automatically fill in the rest assuming it starts with www and ends with .com. (This doesn't always work if you're using OpenDNS.)
    3. Hold down function and hit delete. If you've got a full Apple keyboard, use the delete key two keys under the F14 key.
Good luck and congrats on your move- you won't regret it!

  • My iWeb site can not be opened by many windows users only macs.

My iWeb site should open for all platforms = How to do?
I am also confused about compatability of my hard work and new iWeb sites (I love the iWeb App yet i got 4 family members all in different locations in the USA who run windows ....tell me that they could not open the web site which I announced via email.) Other Mac users did reply back saying it opened fine.
Please send me a way to enable my work to open or if u must please tell me if the windows users need a RSS Reader and or .Mac accounts and or iTunes etc etc ...I wish to feel like the work I do on my Mac is compatable for all. As is Apple continues to isolate others and will include others only if they switch....
Hey Macs are great so why not attract others with a platform that just includes all. Noone wants to enter a beautiful garden if the path to it is filled with thorns and at entrance others find a closed gate which reads You are not welcome.... that aint right and I'm a dumb bell old Dad who thought finally I was creating a web page that all could visit.
Send instructions please on how all people can access my iWeb sites.

My post above was replied with suggestion from Tom as seen then I followed up with thanks as seen.
Anyone else out there have problems and answers per setting iWeb sites so all platforms can access your site???
I really doubt there is any way for anyone to help
you unless you provide the url which is not opening
    some some users.
Thanks Tom for posting a reply which suggests I post my url so I have listed it below. I am just a Dad with all else so know that the guy writing this and using iWeb is a novice old man. I do like iWeb very much so if u can again reply or anyone reply how to allow all PC users to be able to visit this site than great.
    Thanks

Anyone else have ideas and or same problem?

    Thanks Andy,
I wish I could have told my sister about this as she could not open my homepage back before my new iWeb site. She now can open my site without the yet in case denial window does appear = I thank you.
I think my iWeb site works as Noone has said otherwise from any platform etc...
    Alex L
I do agree that should not have to be a consideration for any users so i agree that it would be great if Apple could allow simplicity to run seemlessly.
I have had this problem since Homepage, and here is
what has worked for me. I send out the link, and
then for PC users I send the link with "<" after the address (without quotation
    marks. e.g., <http://site.com>).
I also put a note that if that doesn't work, to just
copy and paste the link into a browser. With that I
have only had 1 person say they still can't open.
Everyone else gets it to work.
It's a lot to do and seems like a hassle, but you get
    used to it.
    Hope this helps!

PS - APPLE! When are you going to fix this??! It
seems like such a small thing yet you guys have been
    stumped for YEARS on this!

I am a new mac user and I switch to mac due to the graphics that it brings. I do website in pc and I heard iweb is the best.NOW i heard that iweb will be discontinue. so what is the best application there for website using MAC OSX lion?

It is now confirmed  that iWeb, and iDVD, has been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. However, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
It now appears that the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought.
Personally, if I didn't already have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.
This might be of some interest to you at this time: Life After MobileMe.
