Windows Vista Issues?

I just Installed windows Vista x64 and my iPod won't seem to connect...
Windows recognizes it as an iPod at first but then installs USB mass storage drivers(i think).... still i don't see it in My Computer or Itunes, it DOES charges.. USB sticks DO work, tried switching USB ports,Ipod service IS running, looked for it on the Apple support site but now i'm out of options...
I have a G5 iPod, ... anyone can help me?

Folks... Panic Over..
Just had it on good authority from my Pals at MS that the iPod problem is well know and Microsoft have provided Apple with the relevant information to enable them to build a certified driver. This driver will be released to the general public in time for the general launch of Vista on Jan 30th.
So we should all be OK either just before or from Jan 3oth forward!
If I lay may hands on it in the meantime, I'll post to this site a link to my website so you can grab it.
Regards
Jay

  • I can't eject ("files in use by another application") Windows/Vista Issue?

OK... so in the grand scheme of things, this really is NOT the end of the world... but it sure is super-annoying!! This is my first every Apple product (took a while to get on the bandwagon) and I was hoping for more stability and ease of use... I've called AppleCare several times and they can't help me figure this out... according to them it's a Windows/Vista issue (which DOES seem likely). I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium on a Dell Dimension E521.
Here's how it goes... I plug my iPod in, which opens up iTunes and it syncs fine. I wait until the top of iTunes says "sync complete" and the face of the iPod simply says "Connected". Then I click on the "eject" button next to the iPod listing in iTunes. It pauses for a moment, then I look down and the iPod suddenly has those syncing, circular arrows, moving again and it says "Synchronizing- do not disconnect". And then a few moments later, iTunes gives me a pop-up that says " XXXX ipod cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application"
So obviously, something else is connecting to the iPod and preventing me from ejecting it using iTunes, but I have not been able to figure out what it is!
Since it's something on my machine, I have tried the following:
    - shut down AntiVirus (TrendMicro Internet Security 2008)
    - turned off Windows Firewall
    - went through all the programs running in the task bar and turned them off
    - opened up Task Manager and turned EVERYTHING else I could see off
None of the above have made any difference. The workaround that Apple gave me was to go into Computer and then right click on the listed drive and select "Safely Remove" which usually works (the times it doesn't work, it gives a similar message saying the device was being used by another application and can't be removed, try again later). But 90% of the time it works.
I use that or the Eject option when I right click on that drive (not sure the difference, they seem to do the same thing). The workaround works, but I'd sure LOVE to get iTunes to be able to eject my iPod!!
Here's what I've done regarding this iPod and iTunes:
    - reset the iPod
    - restored the iPod
    - uninstalled and re-installed iTunes
    - selected and unselected the various things I'm syncing (currently: Music, TV Shows, Podcasts, Photos) to see if it was one of them causing the issue
NONE of the above has made any difference (and I've done each about 2-3 times, ZERO exaggeration).
I've called into AppleCare about half a dozen times now, hoping to get that one brilliant tech that knows more than the others... but no luck yet... so I thought I'd try this forum to see if one of the brilliant posters here can help me sort this out.
PLEASE- ANY help you can provide (or even just point me in the "right" direction of how to determine this) would be GREATLY appreciated!!
    Thanks so much in advance,
    SC

I am using windows Vista and having this problem also (not exactly, but iTunes gives pop-up that "files are in use"). Acting a suggestion from another answer in this thread, I clicked on Computer and selected eject...windows did warn me that the device was in use, but also gave me a CONTINUE button, which I clicked and it was ejected...had to go back to iTunes and eject the iPod there also, but it did eject

  • Connect to Mac from Windows Vista issue

Hi I want to view some files that are on my Mac from my PC (Windows Vista). Here's what I did so far: On my Mac I enabled file sharing, I selected the folders that I want to share.
Now here's the part that confuses me, it asks me to add the users to share the folder with. but do I enter the username and password for my mac or is it the username and password for my PC? What I did was add all the accounts that are on my mac.
I then went on my PC, clicked on network, I can see the mac computer, I can also see my username and folder, I click on it, I then see the drop box but when I click on it I get a network error message that says "Windows cannot access Users public folder drop box".
I don't know what setting I need to enable since I'm very new to this. I can access the files that are on my PC from my Mac just fine. but I can't access the files that are on my Mac from my PC. Do I need to create a new mac account?
I also noticed that when I click on the mac computer from my PC in Network, it doesn't ask me to enter a username and password, could that be the reason I can't connect? Please help.

The user names and passwords are the same on both systems. That is not the issue.
The issue is that each user can only connect to the mac from their windows system when they physically log on as user at the mac.
Otherwise it will not even show up in their network neighborhood.
If I boot up the mac and log in as the user, I can connect to the mac from my windows system but the other two users can't.
Likewise if one of them logs in as the user on the mac, I cannot connect to it from my windows system.

  • Windows vista issues on Satellite A100-036

Hi. I have a Toshiba satellite A100-036 laptop with windows vista home basic 32 bit and I have the following problems.
1.They replace me the hard disk at a store. I only have the Toshiba recovery dvd that I used to format the windows. They told me that I can't use it any more because the restore partition of the disk is lost. If I want to do a format again what do I have to do?
    2. Every time I turn on the laptop the touchpad scrolling doesn't work. I go to control panel > mouse and it shows me this message: "Unable to connect to synaptics pointing device driver. If you have installed another PS/2 pointing device driver please unistall the synaptics driver by clicking on the yes button. You then need to reinstall your pointing device driver for your external device again. Do you want to unistall the synaptics driver now?" I click No and after that it works again and the synaptics pointing device icon appear again in the task bar. If I restart the laptop it doesn't work again and I have to do the same things.
    3. Every time I turn on the laptop the bluetooth doesn't work and the bluetooth icon doesn't appear in the task bar. I have to go to device manager, unistall the driver, go to control panel > bluetooth local com and it works again. Every time I turn on the laptop I have to do this.
    4. Every time I turn on the laptop the security center is turned off and I have to turn it on or the automatic updates are off and I have to turn them on.
    5. Some times it doesn't install the automatic updates and it shows me the error code 8000FFFF.
    Could anybody help me? Thanks.

If you have created the Toshiba Recovery Disk in the past, you can use it in connection with new HDD. The Toshiba Recovery Disk would set the notebook back to factory settings which mean that you will get installed Windows system, Toshiba drivers and additional software.

Go to Toshiba EU driver page and download the Synaptics touchpad driver. Install the touchpad driver and reboot the notebook. Usually this should fix your issue.

This is strange. Usually the BT should work if BT stack was installed properly. Please note that you have to enable the BT using FN key (FN+F8). This combination enables and disables the WLan too. So ensure you did it correctly.

  • Windows vista - issues w/ linksys WRT54GC?

i have a new laptop running windows vista basic and i've tried two wireless routers so far - dlink DI-524 and now the Linksys WRT54GC.
With the dlink, I was able to connect, but unable to create a WEP password. Also, I named the network Home123, but it kept showing up as 'default' in My Networks. my wife was using her MacBook and it kept showing up as 'default' also.
So I purchased the new Linksys WRT54GC because the Dlink was over 2 years old and thought that may have been an issue. Well, tonight, I was able to connect to the Internet again, but the cdrom setup never recognized my router and it never asked me for creating a password.
Does anyone know is Vista has issues with wireless routers? Am I doing something wrong??
    thanks!

    corleone, thanks, tried this.
but still no dice. on my vista network manager, my pc is connected to the router correctly, but the router is not connected to the internet at all. there is a red X. i asked vista to diagnose it and it said there may be a DNS issue...
    can anyone help?
last resort is to get an airport exreme from apple for my wife's mac. but i heard windows have issues with airports..
    thanks.

  • Windows Vista Issue: iTunes auto-updated, now will not open

    Computer: Dell XPS 400
    OS: Windows Vista Ultimate
I was running a version of iTunes that I recently downloaded after installing Windows Vista Ultimate. Yesterday, Apple Updater updated my iTunes install to version 7.1.3.1 and now iTunes will not open.
I have tried uninstalling, registry cleaners, running as administrator, using compatibility mode, etc. I have tried virtually everything listed on these forums and nothing has worked.
iTunes.exe will run under Processes in Task Manager, but will never open.
Does anyone have any ideas? Is Apple planning on fixing this apparant bug in future releases?

This problem is evidently extremely common, as there are many posts saying essentially the same thing about 7.3.1. I installed it and ran into a number of problems immediately, the least of which was that iTunes does not run. The UI appears, but never gets focus so does not respond to any mouse or KB events. There is no error message of any kind. Deleting the preferences files does nothing. Deep removal of all things iTunes (folders, leftover registry keys, etc.) followed by a clean reinstall does not change the situation.
Worse, 7.3.1 uses lots of CPU power (both cores >50% for seconds at a time) while doing exactly nothing. While I appreciate that Apple and Microsoft are dedicated to ensuring that no CPU is left unhammered, this is a bit much.
I have the same version as a clean (first time ever) iTunes install on an XP laptop, and that, so far, is benign.

  • Windows Vista issue

Hi. I hope someone can help me with this odd situation. My friend has a Dell Studio 1735 laptop that he wants formatted to factory condition. Keep in mind his CDROM drive does not work so I am trying to use the recovery partition to do this. On start up I hit F8 and get to "Repair Your Computer." I then pick the correct language, pick the Admin account, select the Dell factory restore option, it barely starts to format it and then VERY QUICKLY just reboots the computer. I never saw anything like it. What the heck is going on? Why would it just reboot like this and not follow through with the format? I can't get around it and to even get to that point I have to work like mad or it reboots before I even get to the format option. Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Windows Vista is becoming obsolete (no IE10/11, Office 2013 or drivers for new hardware and no digital distribution). Your friend may want to consider installation of Windows 10 Insider Preview as this will likely be the cheapest way to get Windows 10 RTM:
    http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/download-microsoft-windows-and-office/download-microsoft-windows/download-windows-10-technical-preview-iso/
This system has a legacy MBR BIOS (non-UEFI BIOS). Use the 64 Bit version. The system drivers should be inbuilt if not use these:
    http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/driver-sets/studio-laptops/studio-1735-windows-7-64-bit/
Hardware wise it may be worthwhile replacing the HDD with a SSD such as a 250-500 GB Crucial BX100:

  • Windows Vista - issues with a large sync

I’m having an issue getting my iPod 80GB classic to sync with my PC. I have been trying to figure this out for a few weeks with no luck. Any input or ideas for a resolution would be great!
Issue: I am unable to do a large sync (5000+ songs) to my iPod
Overview: I currently have a playlist containing about 5000 songs that I am trying to sync to my iPod. I start iTunes, plug in my iPod, and start the sync process. The stats at the top shows the sync is processing normally. At about 800ish songs, the sync moves to a crawl, where it takes almost a full minute for the song counter to move up 1. This goes on for about 15 minutes, and then the sync just stop and I am not able to restart the sync. When I disconnect the iPod, its empty.
When I plug the iPod back into the PC, Win Vista stats an error with the device and ask if it should try to correct the problem. After clearing the error, I try to have iTunes resync, but it also errors out. I have to factory reset the iPod before I can try to sync again. New sync fails and the cycle starts all over again.
I have tried creating small play lists, and they sync without a problem, however multiple play lists totaling a large number of files will error out. I have tried a sync on my old XP box, and large syncs run without any issue. I am running the latest version of iTunes, have uninstalled/reinstalled, the iPod is running the latest software, and I am out of ideas.
    PC Info:
    Win Vista Business, 64bit
    Raid 0
    Intel Core 2 duo.
8 Gig of memory running 1066 Mhz
    Thanks for the help,

    Hey there Max,
If you can’t find the printer in the network browser, it may be easier to add the printer manually using the URL field, as shown in the article below.

  • AirPort Disk - Issue with Windows Vista Ultimate

I setup an AirPort Extreme network, with a shared USB Drive and so far I've only found one issue.
When attempting to create new files and renaming them, or rename pre-existing files on the shared USB Drive using Windows Vista Ultimate I get the following Yes/No dialog:
"The Z:\ folder does not exist. The file may have been moved or deleted. Do you want to create it?"
Then there's information about the mapped drive. If I click "Yes" in the dialog, then the dialog goes away for a moment then pops back up. I can't create a new file directly on the shared AirPort Disk, nor can I modify or create and rename new files on the disk without getting stuck in the loop.
I can, however, create a new file locally on the Vista box and copy it up, and I can even create a new directory locally with files and copy them up without issue.
Now, the issue does not happen when I use my MacBook or my XP machine. This issues seems to be a Windows Vista issue only, and I haven't seen anyone else reporting it.
Here's information about the disk share implementation:
    - The disk is password protected (turning on accounts really breaks the ability of Windows Vista to work with the disk)
    - The disk is Mac Formatted with Case Sensitivity, and Journaling
This works like a top for OS X and Windows XP, just not Vista. I'd like to getting working properly for all machines.
If anyone's got some advice on this one, I'd love to hear it.

Here's a little more information regarding the issue:
    - It's an AirPort Extreme Wireless Router with Firmware ver. 7.1
    - The Windows Vista Ultimate PC has the most recent Microsoft patches to-date, and has the most recent Apple Airport Utilities Software to-date.

  • Windows Vista iPod Nano Issues

I just bought an iPod Nano 8GB today and when I tried to connect it to my Windows Vista System after installing iTunes, I get an "Add new Hardware" wizard asking me to install the driver for the iPod which obviously doesn't work.
Of course, I've tried the 5Rs several times and none of them work. Asking here is my last resort.
I know there are currently issues with Vista but clearly this isn't one of those listed under the article on the site. So I was wondering if this is only specific to my PC.
Thanks in advance to whoever who can help.

Hello.  I am using Windows Vista on my laptop.  We use the portal to access our SAP systems.  I have SAP GUI 7.1 installed on my machine.  When I click my WIN GUI link from inside the portal I get a download file request.  I download the file, however I have to click on the WIN GUI link a second time for the GUI to actually open  I am using IE 7.0 as well.
Please advise if you know how to resolve this issue.
    Thanks,

  • I'm trying to play a video but it does not work or load up, issue? No video with supported format or MIME type found issue in Firefox 28.0 Windows vista

no playback of videos -latest flash player installed and updated add-ons but it still dosn't work. only youtube works but no other site.

Will you not post the link to the video like I requested, or at least let us know if you can play the videos on the pages I linked to? It would prevent more random guesswork.
Firefox doesn't try to play files it can't handle. When coming across a direct link to a file that could be handled by a plug-in, but that plug-in isn't installed, Firefox would display a download prompt.<br>
That's not the issue here, where there's an unsupported format error. That suggests an MP4 file that can't be played. Even if a plug-in that can handle MP4 files were installed, Firefox probably wouldn't use it due to bug 861090.
Firefox has supported HTML5 H.264 video on Windows Vista since version 22.0. There's no point in installing the very old — and likely abandoned — Windows Media Player plug-in.

  • Using a Mac, Firefox does not allow me to use the vertical scroll bar real-time in Godaddy webmail. It lags and jumps. Godaddy says it is a browser issue. Does not happen in Safari with Mac OS 10.4.11 or on PC w/windows vista.

The problem is not my server (Comcast) as it does not happen on Safari when trying different websites as well as Godaddy.com or my Godaddy webmail. The problem is only when using my Mac OS X 10.4.11 (not my Windows Vista PC) in Firefox. I only began noticing this recently. Godaddy says this is a browser issue with my Mac as they cannot replicate it.
