Wine-stable & 32 bit chroot.

I tried to install wine-stable from the AUR but am getting these errors when I run makepkg.

I've installed a 32 bit chroot system in /opt/arch32  by following the instructions here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … _in_Arch64
Copying the wine-stable PKGBUILD to the /opt/arch32/builds/wine-stable directory and chrooting into the arch32 system, then running makepkg gives these errors.

  • Bin32-wine vs 32-bit chroot environment

    I run Arch x86_64 with bin32-wine for all of my windows applications, however I was wondering if there are any advantages (compatibility, speed, etc.) to running a 32-bit chroot environment for all of my 32 bit apps (which would only be wine). 
    Currently I only use wine for Office 2007, however I would like to run Deus Ex and Starcraft (maybe others in the future), and I'm currently unable to get Starcraft running.  Deus Ex runs in windowed mode with safe mode on, but very poorly.
    System specs:
    ASUS UL30A U7300 dual core 1.3 GHz
    4 GB DDR3
    Intel GMA4500 MHD graphics
    Any thoughts on this?  Thanks in advance

    I see.......thank you for the response.  I wondered if I had to compile for the chroot or simply use pacman -Syu.  That is indeed a large advantage. 
    I went ahead and completely wiped bin32-wine, all of the dot files, and reinstalled Office 2007, Starcraft, and Deus Ex.  That fixed a bug in Office (files with space in file path not opening correctly from dolphin/konqueror/etc).
    I also discovered that one of my problems with my games was that I somehow missed a few packages related to opengl.  I stll wasn't able to get Deus Ex working just yet.....
    I may go ahead and do the chroot, as that seems like an easier way of doing things after the initial setup. 
    If anyone has anymore input I would be grateful to hear it.

    Hi fellow archers,
    I have set up a 32 Bit change root as discribed in the wiki here:

    The installation and configuration worked pretty straight forward. Unfortunately WINE doesn't find 3D acceleration. I installed Mesa inside the chroot but it lists softwaremode for the renderer when I do a glxinfo.
    Do I need to follow the ATI guide in the wiki and install some libs like this ?
    pacman -S libgl ati-dri
    Or do I need to completely build Mesa within the 32 bit chroot ?

    First of all: Do you use schroot and have your --bind mounts set up properly?

  • Apparent problem with Ovi Suite and Win 7 64 bit

    Hi
    Apologies if this has already been covered, but i have searched quite thoroughly and i haven't come across the specific problem i'm querying.
    I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, with PC Suite 7.1.51.0, which runs just fine.
    I intend to upgrade to the superb N8 when my contract comes to an end in 6 months, so i'm just doing my homework.  
    Apparently, the N8 will only run on Ovi Suite, NOT PC Suite.
    Now if anyone disputes this and can convince me that the N8 works perfectly fine with PC Suite, then read no further, please just respond!  (Bear in mind the OS i'm running though).
    As nice as Ovi Suite is, i've managed just fine so far with PC Suite.
    Otherwise, please let me explain the problem i am having:
    I installed Ovi Suite 2.2.1.23.  When i run it, it shows the main screen, and you can just make out a small window appearing in the middle saying "Nokia OVI".
    It is then that the program stops responding, eventually displaying the error message which reads:
    Runtime Error!
    Program: C:\...
    This appication has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way.
    Please contact the appication's support team for more information.
    Judging by the similar stories of Ovi crashing (not finding one where the program fails to open, though), i think it is related to the fact that i'm running Win 7 64 bit; but i could be wrong.
    I have tried installing it in compatibility mode, then (failing that), running it in compatibility mode, all to no avail.
    Is this a problem that Nokia know about?  If there is an intended fix within 6 months, then that'll be fine.
    Otherwise, do any of you clever people know any work-arounds?
    Any further questions you need to ask, please don't hesitate.

    Pinpointing the problem may be very difficult as Ovi-Suite appears to be extremely unpredictable.and getting Ovi-suit tu run an sync properly seems to be largely a matter of luck.
    I have just set-up three brand new identical HP workstations for our Geo-Information Department.
    All were set up from the same disk image with only Win 7 Pro Office 2010, then directly Ovi-Suite as our Geo-Information guys insisted on Nokia handsets against our advice.
    On one, machine Ovi-Suite crashed on launch and was unable to run at all.
    on the second, Sync to OL 2010 failed consistently.
    ont the third, everything ran fine with an N97 but an N8 was not recognized
    So i got curious and run tests on one machine: I installed the same disk image a total of six times (clean win7-64, clean Office 2010 3 times, Office 2003 three times)
    Office 2010
    the first time i had the crash on launch, second time OL2010 sync fail, third time it ran ok.
    Office 2003
    First time notes sync failed, second and third time all was ok.
    So the issue is definitely with Ovi-Suite and it appears to be pure luck whether is runs or not and if it runs at all, whether it syncs or not.
    Syncing OL 2010 seems to be much trouble prone than OL2003, 64bit appears to be much less stable than 32, onb win 7 it seems to have slightly fewer issues than on XP.
    We have NO issues with any other sync software (Palm, BB, Fruit, S-E, Microsoft, even Nokia PC-Suite).
    None of the software is run with admin privileges (as we just do not give admin rights to users). If software requires admin rights to be installed, it is done by Data Center employees.
    I'm afraid one's best bet to get Ovi-Suite running is trial and error, or if  the handset supports it, use PC-Suite, which is what we do.
    Ovi-suite users, according to our logs, generate over 70% of our smart phone related support calls, even though they are only 6% of our smart phone user base.
    As a result, we currently have all Nokia handsets that do not work with PC-Suite and require Ovi-Suite blacklisted in our organization, meaning we won't support them in any way. Installation of any flavor of Ovi-Suite is prohibited on user PCs as long as it does not become more stable, reliable and less of a resource hog.

    Hi fellow archers,
    Gaming with WINE inside a 32 bit chroot works perfectly for me. I just want to add some more comfort.
    I have not really found a good description on how to automate gaming within a 32 bit chroot.
    There is a hint in the wiki to add an alias which launches wine inside the 32 bit chroot from your 64 bit system but how would I write a script which does:
    1) Mount an ISO required for a windows game as loopback
    2) Start the 32 bit chroot
    3) Start the game via WINE inside the 32 bit chroot
    4) Exit the 32 bit chroot
    I know how to do this all inside a terminal manually but
    ...how do I "change into 32 bit chroot" from a bash script ?
    ...how do I call WINE inside the 32 bit chroot from the same bash script ?
    ...how do I exit the 32 bit chroot from the bash script ?
    Additional to this I am not shure if it is smarter to mount the ISO inside the 64 bit system and export the directory to your 32 bit chroot ? Or is it smarter to change inside the 32 bit chroot and mount the ISO there ?
    I am asking this esp. in regard to some "CD checks" of Windows games which sometimes seem to be very sensitive in regard how the media is mounted / presented to WINE itself.
    As usual I would like to write things together and add them to the corresponding part of the wiki.

    Using schroot works perfectly for me when I use it to run darkplaces together with SDQuake.
    In order to do more than one command within the chroot I guess I simply have to write shell script and launch this inside the chroot via schroot, right ?
    I am not shure how schroot takes care for mounting / unmounting when I have several ISOs lying in my home directory which I require for different games. A lot of games work fine with "no-cd" patches in term of requireing the original CD but still rely on files stored on the CD.
    My best guess is a combination of two shell scripts. One running under arch64 and one which is started via schroot in my chroot.

    The bauerbill alias that you've posted needs to be changed to work with arch32-light because the pacman32 configuration file and mirrorlist are located at /opt/arch32/etc/pacman32.conf and /opt/arch32/etc/pacman32.d/mirrorlist. This is to ensure that pacman32 in the host remains independent of pacman in the chroot (the base installation doesn't even include pacman in the chroot).

    I've never actually used schroot so I didn't know that it mounted anything itself. Note though that all the hook does is make sure that the daemon is running, which is expected anyway, so I don't think it can hurt to have the extra check. Aside from ensuring that the correct directories are mounted in the chroot, it also prevents files from being created inside the empty mountpoints.
    Schroot has a precofigured makeshift fstab file for arch32 under /etc/schroot/mount-arch32. Since I never really did anything else with my chroot aside from running applications installed by pacman32 (or bb32 in my case), I left it to schroot to mount my stuff. That way I also didn't need to run the arch32 daemon the wiki specified. If I actually needed shell access to the chroot, I just launched schroot -p -- bash or schroot -p -- zsh. (I don't know if this could give rise to any security issues, though). I didn't try the more exotic cases however, like installing applications that need to change CDs in the middle of the process in chrooted wine…
    I'll play around with schroot a bit to see if any issues come up with the mounts.

  • [SOLVED] Compile 32bit Wine in x64 without chroot?

    I was wondering if it's possible. Due to winetricks not working with x64 wine, I wanted to do a compile of 32-bit Wine without chroot. I need to apply patches, otherwise I'd just use pacman. I've looked but pretty much all topics I've found that are related are before Multilib was added to Arch and all require chroot. Thanks for any help.

    Solved it by just getting multilib gcc, and downloading all the missing dependencies that caused warnings after ./configure with x32 wine

    You can use a chroot if you want to, or have good reason to... but myself -> i run a multilib system and i compile wine on every update (i just compiled 1.5.4 yesterday). I only use 32bit apps in wine, as well via my 32bit prefix.
    If you decide to go the 'multilib' route, you could use package management in arch to compile/install wine ... there are a couple of patched versions of wine in the AUR, that you could use as a template. just download the tarball, extract it and modify it to use your patches / suit your needs, add your patches to the directory, fix checksums, etc and voila

    there is one or two others, but they are very similar. either could work as a good template.

    anyway, it basically comes down to either having a 32bit chroot, or running a multlib system.

  • How to install 64 bit Lightroom 2 on Win XP 64 bit

    I read that the default for WinXP is 32 bit, and I really want to install the 64bit version on Win XP 64 bit (not Vista).
    Is it possible to do this? If not then I am definitely not buying it.
    If yes, any instructions on how to force the install of the Trial version to install 64 bit.
    If not, I hope PShop CS4 is made available in 64bit for Win XP 64bit.

    You cannot use the Pavilion 500 desktop recovery disks to upgrade the operating system on your HP laptop.
    You would have to purchase either: a Win 8 retail upgrade or full install disc to change the operating system on your laptop.
    If you are considering upgrading your laptop you should consider Win 7 64 bit instead of Win 8.

  • Why Win 7 64-bit pc says device added will sync momentarily, but no data has come from either my Win XPpro 32-bit pc nor either Android device (3 synced)?

    All 3 existing/currently-used devices (Win XP pro 32-bit laptop, and 2 Android phones) are on Firefox 30 (latest version) and sync just fine; NEW laptop (a Win 7 64-bit laptop, HP pro650) says added, "Will Sync Momentarily" but no data transferred... Not a single bookmark, nor my theme or other configuration(s).
    I realize, after finding hardware requirement, that 64-bit Win 7 allows Firefox to work fine and am using it right now (I downloaded v.30 Firefox as soon as I booted the brand new pc up today), it let me set up sync & everything, just never transferred any data...Almost impossibly time-consuming task to transfer the thousands of bookmarks & complete organization from my other laptop, and will not matter much if I cannot sync any new ones with it. I would hate to have to transfer everything into Chrome...
    Am I out of luck with this 64-bit unit to sync at all until Firefox supports it in the future?

    Well...Update Here: Tried Waterfox and it worked perfectly, got everything in from XP pro pc. SuperFast browsing too.
    Granted it is apparently a v.28, I think. Doesn't really matter to me. Now I'm going to try to import both Android bookmarks, etc. Will post my success or failure later.

  • Flash Player 10 Not installing on Win 7 64 bit PC

    Flash Player 10 download goes through install procedure and says it is installed but it is not.
    After that There is always  a Flash Player Install file on the PC.
    When I click on that it goes through the install procedure and says it is installed but it is not.
    Have tried above install more than 6 different times. Also on my wife's new PC.
    Always the same bad result.
    These two new PC's are both on WIN 7 64 bit OS.

    I tried the suggested method of uninstall and then install.  Also the disable instructions for Norton AV.
    Still no success.  When I again check the list of programs in Control Panel for possible uninstall the Flash Player 10 has returned there.
    But the player does not play when needed for some videos on Facebook, etc.
    One thing I could not find to disable on Norton AV was "Smart Firewall."  It was not in my NAV 2011.
    Any other suggestions appreciated.

Also before you begin this procedure, I need to know what Anti-Virus/Spyware programs you have Installed. Some will block the Install of Flash Player and that needs to be taken care of first.
    Download and SAVE to your Desktop the Uninstaller:

    The current certification matrix seems to say this is supported, however I am having the following problem:
    1. I have an existing RTF template, with data template that works. I have run it to be sure, and can view output and verify.
    2. If Iopen that RTF template in BIP Desktop, then remove a field, and then using the field browser ( or insert > field ) add that same field back, or a new one the report will not generate output.
    Upload the RTF, and the process will finish with status warning, and it fails during post processing. I look at the Output Post Processor error. edit the RTF template with a text editor and see that instead of putting in a <?YOUR_FIELDNAME?> BIP Desktop has instead inserting something similar to the following: <?ref:xdo0001?>. The only solution I currently have is to manually change these tags, however for large BIP reports this is cumbersome, and unacceptable for a long term solution.
    Is there a workaround? or reported bug? I couldn't find anything on MOS for this.

    Hi All
    I have installed Weblogic 10.3.0 on Win 2K3 64 bit and created a domain with using Sun JDK 1.6.0_10.
    The server crashes when I enter the username on the prompt while starting the server. But if I hard-code the userID/pwd in the SetDomainEnv.cmd file, the server works fine.
    The error that I am getting in the first case is:

    You might try to rename (.old) the admin server cache files and try again. They are located at xxxdomain\servers\admin (4 folders - cache, data, tmp, security).....
