Wiped out my music on ipod

Just bought a new laptop. In the process of moving files over, I somehow wiped out all the musing on my ipod. Tried to update from windows, FAILED! Message reads "cannot read or write to disk" Help! my musinc is still in itunes

See if this helps: "Disk cannot be read from or written to" when
syncing iPod
This is awful...during the restore, message reads " restore failed, unknown error". My ipod has worked fine for over a year...I just do not get it. So, my music is still in Itunes, but I cannot get it back on the ipod...any suggestions?

  • My Ipod Touch is wiping out my music randomly

Every once in a while I will plug my Ipod into my computer and it will totally wipe out my music and movies. It's not set to Sync up and it works perfectly every other time. The weird thing about the music and movies being wiped out is when I pull up my Ipod on Itunes it says it's full. My Ipod Touch is 16g and I usually keep it 14g full, when I click on the Ipod it says that is 14g full of "other" items. While this isn't a huge issue it's really annoying having to restore and restock my Ipod every month with thousands of songs. Anyone know what may be causing this?

large amounts of 'other' suggest a file corruption, which is as you have noted, fixed by a restore.
it's odd that this happens regularly though, it shouldn't. do you live near an apple store? is your ipod still under warranty? might be worth taking it for them to look at.

  • ITunes update wiped out my music and apps.  When I got everything back, now it won't sync.  It says I don't have enough space on iPod.  I have more than enough.

I Updated itunes and it wiped out all of my music and apps.  I had over 4500 songs and had to reload.  Some from backup, some from cd's.  Now when I try to sync my IPods and IPad, it says I don't have enough space to sync.  I know I do because I have less now than when I would sync before all of the nice update.

Depending on how you recovered the library iTunes may see the restored files as "new" content and not match them properly with what is already on the device. See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash for the way I would normally approach the issue. You may need to manually backup and then restore the device in order to fix things.

  • Itunes wiped out all data now ipod is corrupt

I bought my 80g ipod classic in March,08 and have never had problems until two months ago. Several times after disconnecting, I found that itunes wiped out all the songs and video. The first time, I lost over 8000 songs and never realized it until I was in the car on a long road trip. My playlists were gone, 14 movies and many video clips. My pictures and games remained however. Problems continued periodically. Sometimes it would eject immediately after connecting. Then it would connect, but not sync anything. Now itunes will recognize it, but says it needs to be formatted then restored. I didn't want to lose everything, but now it has wiped out games and pics also. It is like I just bought it. I have updated itunes to 8.0 and tried to update my ipod as well. Now it is telling me that it can't be restored and that my ipod is corrupt. This is my second ipod, the first was a 20g with pics and I used and abused it to death and NEVER had a single problem until it just quit working. I have my computer set to update automatically for itunes and this all started right after it completed an update of some kind. I have a 2 year warranty, should I relace it? Also, will I lose all the games I bought?

I just upgraded my itunes and now my IPOD won't play any of my songs. Everything is still ther, will let me navigate etc, but just won't play!
    Very dissapointed!
Worst, i can't get my music off my IPOD now, because ITUNES doesn't allow it. And worst still, when i take it in to get a replacement, they simpy take my IPOD and away and give me a new one.
    I'm seriously put off!

  • New ITUNES Does not allow me to sync and wiped out song on my ipod video

I was prompted to update my ITUNES software (7.02 I believe). Once I did this, it told me that I needed to update my Quick Time Software, which I also did.
I did as I was told and took my IPOD Video out on my walk. It deleted every song on my out except for two. When I attempeted to re synch the IPOD it will not allow me to do it.
The playlists on the IPOD appear to be locked.
    HELP PLEASE

I am having the same problem. My library is not showing up on my computer but is on my phone. The only thing on my computer is the 3 songs I just bought. My message says that my Iphone is synced with another library. I do not want to lose the 100+ songs on my iphone. I do not see them anywhere on my Mac computer. Should I sync or will I lose all music?

  • I wiped out everything on my iPod, how do I get it back?

I wiped my iPod out, how do I get everything back?

  • Computer crash wiped out itunes music library

My computer crashed and I lost my itunes music library on my hard drive. when I plug in my ipod to my computer I get a message that the music library on the ipod doesn't match my itunes library. How can I get my music library on my ipod back onto my computer so I don't lose all my stored music?

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.  Use your backup copy of your computer ot put everything back.

  • ITunes wiped out all music and playlists

This is a real problem as many of what I have loaded are teaching lectures and the titles were added at the ITunes level.   What is on my hard drive are numbers that have no coorelation to the lecture title.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
Would you mind telling me which anti-virus package you use? It may be that it is disturbing iTunes when it tries to write out the fresh database, as it does after almost any activity with your library. I'm noticing more of this type of problem than usual and trying to see if there is any pattern. It may help to prevent a repeat of the problem if you look at the advanced options for your AV package and see if you can find a way to exclude the iTunes folder from any real-time scanning process.

  • Apple tech helped me 60 min ago. Told me to create new account for wife. Wiped out her ipod music--now iTunes wont let me download it in her new account so I can restore her music!  Help!!

Today an Apple tech helped me 60 min ago. Although my wife and I have diff apple ID's, our music was mixing and syncin back and forth.  The tech told me to create new comp user account for wife which I did. I wiped out everything on her ipod and signed in under her ID.  When I tried to put it back I got a message that I couldn't download her purchased music for 90 days because there was another apple ID associated with my computer.  Not sure wether that means mine or hers.  What I am sure of is that I'm dead if I can't get her music back.  Please help.  Thanks,  Craig

I can understand how that would be frustrating. If you created a brand new Apple ID for her, your Apple ID should not have been affected any more than anyone else's. They are as separate from one another as your Apple ID is from mine.
Since you just bought your MacBook Air, you can certainly contact AppleCare for this, and I encourage you to do so. They will straighten it out.
Until then, if you want to troubleshoot this on your own, sign in to your Apple ID here:
    https://appleid.apple.com/
Click the blue "Manage your Apple ID" button. If it says it no longer exists or gives you other hassles, it's probably not worth your effort to pursue. Have Apple fix it.
Contact Apple starting with this link - never Google it: http://www.apple.com/support/
    Navigate the pages as follows:
Under "Contact Us" click the blue "Contact Support" link
Click the blue "Get Started" button
    Click "More Products & Services"
    Click "Apple ID"
Click "iTunes Store, App Store or Mac App Store"
Continue with the appropriate options and choose the contact method most convenient for you.

  • I have an ipod touch that i first recieved in the united states, now i am currently residing in canada. my question is can i have an itunes account from both countries without wiping out all the songs and apps. on my ipod??

please help, i am wondering if i can have both an itunes account from the usa and canada on the same ipod without wiping out my music and apps.???

You can retain the apps and music for the USA account.  However, you can only use the iTunes store in the country you are physically located.  Thus, you can't update the USA purchased app when in Canada.  See the following too:

  • Recovering music/syncing ipod problem

I hope you can stick with me as I try to explain this problem the best that I can!
My son has a 30G video ipod that is currently synced to a Dell with Windows 2000. All of his music/videos/games/photos/movies are on the ipod. Of course the PC crashed and strangely wiped out the music files, but kept the XML files that the music is attached to (?). So we have been unable to listen to the music on the computer because we get a message that says something along the lines of the original files are missing. (The movies are intact, and only one of the downloaded games have shown up.) He has only able to listen to the music in iTunes if the iPod was plugged into the computer. We kind of resolved the problem by doing this: with the ipod plugged into the PC, we made a folder on the desktop. Since we were able to listen to the music we highlighted all of the songs and dragged them into the new folder. Opening the folder we saw they were not xml files, but the m4 or mP3 files-something along those lines. We then unplugged the ipod and moved the files from the folder on the desk top to the itunes library, and we can now listen to the music without the iPod having to be plugged into it. However, there are about 750 songs on the iPod, but only 530 that have shown up in the iTunes library. What could have happened to the other songs?
To complicate things even more, my oldest son has passed his iBook down to him. I am going to reset the iBook to its factory settings so he can start with a clean slate. He obviously wants to be able to take his music from the pc to the iBook and sync his ipod to the mac. With all of this being said, could someone please help me do this? I feel like I need to resolve the first issue of the 200+ missing songs before dealing with the transferring of the music to the iBook (by the way, the purchased music is intact). Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Kelly

I went through my music and double checked what I was missing. Turns out its only a CD, and some songs that shouldn't be to hard to re-aquire. Also, I am missing an episode of Royal Pains [I have the second episode but the first one doesn't show up...]
I have decided to try and just replace the songs. So I found a different answer. ^^

  • My Itunes playlist library got wiped out. I would like to copy all the playlists on my IPOD to the playlist area on Itunes Music but can't drag from my IPOD to that area.

My  Itunes library got wiped out, no playlists any more. I would like to copy what is on my IPOD back to Itunes because I have purchased a newer IPOD nano. I am not able to drag and drop any of the music on my IPOD to a new playlist name on Itunes.

Restore your iTunes library from your most recent backup of it.  If you've not had the foresight to maintain a backup of your library see turingtest2's user tip on Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device, which lists several methods - some using third-party tools - to accomplish this.  There is no facility in iTunes itself to transfer media (other than iTunes Store purchases) from any iDevice to iTunes, and iDevices are not designed or suitable for data storage.

  • My ipod 4th gen gets wiped clean of music anytime I sync. it then only redownloads some of the music in the library and wont upload missing songs.  They show on the ipod grayed out. How do I get this to stop? re-uploading takes 4 hours.

my ipod 4th gen gets wiped clean of music anytime I sync. it then only redownloads some of the music in the library and wont upload missing songs.  They show on the ipod grayed out. How do I get this to stop? re-uploading takes 4 hours and is never completed.  I only get some of the 6000+ songs I have. This started when I updated to IOS5 i think.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Is there a way to import your entire music library from an iPod classic into iTunes on  my PC?  PC was wiped out and my iPod is the only complete library copy I have.

My PC hard drive was wiped out and I am rebuilding my Windows 7 system.  The only complete library I have of my music is located on my iPod classic.  Is there a way to import the library from my iPod into a  new iTunes library on my PC?  I was told if I connect my iPod to the PC, ITunes will try to sync with the iPod and wipe out the library on the iPod.

  • Okay so I have a new ipod touch...but I need to get music out of my old nano to my itues w/out wiping out my old nano...how do i do this? new laptop so itues is new...please help

okay so I have a new ipod touch...but I need to get music out of my old nano to my itues w/out wiping out my old nano...how do i do this? new laptop so itues is new...please help

You need to authorize your new computer in iTunes with the same account that is synced to your nano (and old iTunes)
In the menu bar click Store >> Authorize This Computer…
This will allow your purchased music to be re-downloaded from iTunes and played on your new computer.
If you did not purchase the music through iTunes, you may need a third-party program to get the music off the nano. However, It is much easier (by far) to move your old library from your old computer to the new one if you still have access to the old files. iTunes will not transfer music from your nano to the computer. It is a one-way sync.
If you still have access to your old files, search google for how to transfer an itunes library, and follow someones instructions. It's not too complicated. You may want to specify mac to pc, pc to mac, mac to mac, or pc to pc, as the instructions will change.
