Wireless Canon printer problem - solved

My household has 2 MacBook Pros that suddenly stopped being able to print to my Canon MX870 printer/multi-function device wirelessly ("Support code: 300" was the error message I got). After many hours of the chicken dances of turning things off and on (modem, router, Mac, printer, etc), and lots of other attempted solutions,* I found one place on the Canon support webpage that said to try UNPLUGGING the printer for at least 10 seconds to actually re-set it. Folks, this solved the problem, at least for the moment. Hooray! *One other solution I tried was replacing some of the ink cartridges. Apparently, they can appear to be dry even with ink in them (esp. if you haven't used the printer in a while -- and I also live in a fairly dry climate), and in some cases as stated elsewhere in the Apple support community, that dryness can cause a communication problem for the printer. That didn't solve it for me, but I offer that in case it might work for you.

Hello Lars,
i agree with you that the v2.00 of the UFR2 driver works. I have been recommending it for a while now in this forum.
However, during my testing I found that it did not always work perfectly on 10.6 and it did not support all the models of Canon iR. So while it is currently working to your iRC4580, it may not be your final solution because it was not designed to work with 10.6 and I just wanted to make others who read your post aware of this.
Also, because the driver does not officially support 10.6, I was suggesting this as an explanation why Canon
Europe had not posted the same.
One final note. For the sake of other readers If the iRC4580 had an imagePASS-H1 print controller attached, rather than using the internal Canon board, then the UFR2 driver cannot be used.
Hope this clears things up. Like I said, I wasn't disagreeing with you. i was just trying to answer some of the items you raised.

  • Canon printer problem solved

I am still frustrated, that Canon has not yet solved the driver problems with my printer (IRC 4580)
I was browsing Sunday evening, and via Google I ended on Canon Australia's website:
    http://www.canon.com.au/drivers/
And suddenly I found a full list of drivers for OSX 10.6 including my printer. I have installed, it and it works for all post copy handling systems on the printer (booklet, stables, punching etc.).
Perhaps Canon can find a way to communicate this for the rest of the world.

  • HT3500 i have a mac pro and have connected to my wireless canon printer. I was able to print but now the printer comes up with the paper in the tray is the wrong size. but the paper is A4. does any one know what is wrong.

I have connected to my wireless canon printer but it wont let me print from my mac pro. printer comes up with the message that the paper size doesnt match the printer settings. I have tried to change the settings on the printer but that didnt work. can anyone help

Well... no help was found here.. so I abandoned the wireless- ness of my printer.  I bought a
small 10 port hub because only 2 USB ports really isn't enough with wireless mouse, wireless internet
and any kind of printer.   I also bought a long USB cable.  I now print--wired since this can be done
as an alternative to wireless with this printer.   Because I don't want a cable "hanging around"
when the printer is not in use, I simple disconnect it and reconnect when I want to print.
It's a temporary solution others may find helpful as well. Apparently there's been a lot of
confusion and problems getting this printer set up wirelessly with our MacBooks.
Shame on HP for not helping us out!

  • I cannot print to my wireless Canon printer.  A communication error has occurred.

I have had no problems printing to my wireless Canon printer until yesterday.  Now when I try to print the icon at the bottom shows a printing job has been started but nothing ever prints.  When I open the print cache it tells me that "A communication error has occurred."  I've checked the printer and it is still set up properly.  I have unplugged my wireless router and modem to reset, but this has not interrupted my ability to access internet nor has it reset the printer to a different setting.  I am at a loss as to why I can't print any longer.  Since we bought the mac in July I haven't had any problems and this really has thrown me for a loop as to why it is occuring.  Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Perhaps one of the printer drivers is corrupt. Go to http://www.canon.com.au/en-AU/Support-Services/Drivers-and-Downloads (or other country download).

  • Home wireless network printing problem

    Hello,
I have a Canon MP610 which I can use just fine connected directly to my Macbook (running Leopard). But I am trying to connect to it wirelessly through a D-Link DIR655 and Windows XP workstation (the Windows computer is connected to the LAN port and the Canon printer is connected to the computer via a USB connection).
I have Printer sharing checked under the Windows Printer Properties and I can “find’ the printer’s name wirelessly on my Macbook when I “add a printer” from the “Print & Fax” box, but I cannot find the driver. I have looked under the “Select a driver to use” option, and “Other” selection. I have installed the latest driver on the Macbook, but don’t know where it is for me to select when that window pops up for me to select one (“Print Using...”).
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Royce

I had the exact same problem with my Canon MP760 when i was using Tiger. The only solution i found was to use an Airport Express base station to connect the printer, then it worked flawlessly. Seems to an issue that some Canon USB printer are not networkable unless they are connected to an Apple product.
I hope you can find a solution other than having to buy another piece of hardware.

  • Printer Problem Solved!

I was happily printing valentines for my grandchildren when all of a sudden my Epson Stylus N11 would not go. The printer icon in the dock bobbled and the message said the printer did not recognize the ink cartridges! Very weird. So I turned the printer off and on and then when I tried to print the message said the computer was unable to communicate with the printer. Restarting my iMac did nothing.
That was very alarming. Did this mean the printer was malfunctioning? Would I need to go out and buy a new one?
Then I went to my preferences in my home folder and deleted everything that said printer or Epson. Restarted the computer. Problem solved! The symptoms seemed to indicate a problem with the printer itself, fortunately it was not. I thought this might be useful to share.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS6 and Canon printer problem!!

Use Photoshop CS6 to edit and print (try to print) to a new Canon Pixma Pro-100 printer.  Photoshop is up to date and the Mac runs OS 10.8.5 - Canon printer driver is current at ver. 11.7.1.
When I print from Photoshop to the Pro-100 (let's say a 4X6 landscape snapshot to 4X6 borderless paper) the printer starts up and moves the paper out about 4 inches and then prints the
first two inches of the image, stops and ejects the paper!.  I've tried different versions of printer the printer driver and made sure every things is up to date.  However, I can print from MS Word,
Nikon Capture NX2, or Canon's own Print Studio Pro and it works fine.  Canon is no help because if it works OK with their Print Studio Pro then it's not their issue - I tend to agree with them.
The same thing happens print from Photoshop to 5X7 or 8X10 paper - it gets ejected so far and then only prints part of the image.  I've searched the Internet and posted in Forums but can't find
where any one would have the same problem.  What I'm hoping for here is someone at from Adobe who's knows Photoshop tech stuff will post here with suggestion because there is no more
phone support for Photoshop CS6.  I'd like to really keep this printer and get Photoshop to work with it but if I can't I'm going to offer it up free to a good home!  JM Davis

Thanks for your answer, indeed this fixed the problem. Quite stupid I did not see this myself

I don't know what DE are you using. In my case, I use xfce and when acroread starts with his stupidity I just change the print command to 'xfprint'. That forces acroread to redirect the print job to xfce's printing frontend, and problem solved.
Now, if you're using kde, I guess there is something named 'kdeprint', 'kprint' or similar. For gnome, I've no idea.
    I hope this helps.
p.s. Sometimes, cups takes his time to print. When its taking too long I purge cups' temp files and restart the daemon.

  • 10.6.7 update and now Canon printer problems

I had the automatic 10.6.7 update two days ago and everything is fine except now I have printer issues with Canon MF8350. I can still scan, I can print from Safari, I can print from some .pdf but not others, I am unable to print anything from Word - they all come out as blank pages. Updates from Microsoft and Canon didn't help.
If you don't know, anyone at least know how I can uninstall the update? I know how to find the updates list, but not how to get it out.

I just want to let you all know that I fixed my printing problem.
I could not add my printer under the System Preference>Print & Fax after I did the reset. But I can add the printer back to my Mac Pro by connecting the USB cable to the tower. When I connected my USB cable back to the Apple Extreme. The printer was offline. I did so many different thing still not working. Then I go the the discussion forum on Airport Express and ... I also followed a lot of advises there. Then someone give out a link on Apple support. I following the advise half way still printer was offline. Then I went to my Mac Book and to reset the printer, and add printer again, and click share this printer. I went back to my Mac Pro, and try print a page, I choose nearby printer (there was never has this option for me before). It has another printer icon with Canon MX310 series-1. Bingo, it printed from my Mac Pro also. I have two printer icons on my Mac Pro, one is the same name as the Mac book. I was very happy. It was 4 in the morning. Well, finally I could sleep good.
I am still not sure exactly what the step to make my printer work again (Trial and Error). But I learn a lot by reading advises on this forum.

  • Canon printer problem *since 4 months*

OS & printer updates come and go, but my printing problem persists:
Before my Mac even tries to communicate with my Canon printer, I get an unspecified error message: "Error during printing". Immediately, right after hitting the print button. No matter if the printer is online or offline. In the split of a second.
    Console log message:
Pages[565] Printing failed because PMSessionEndDocumentNoDialog() returned -30870.
PS: There is already a long list of these errors:
    http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=PMSessionEndDocumentNoDialog()returned-30870.&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8
Thanks a lot for a helpful hint!

Did you try resetting the printing system as suggested?
I haven't experienced the same problem as you, but it did fix the one problem I had with printing.
System Preferences -> Print & fax. Hold the Ctrl-key when you click on the list of printers, and select 'Reset Printing System' from the options. You'll need to reset your printer options after doing this.

  • Canon printer problem after upgrade.

Upgraded iMac to Yosemite 10.10.2.  Now my  Canon printer LPB6000-LPB6018 does not respond to print request.  Even tho the printer is fairly new, I have forgotten what the procedure was in setting it up with Maverick that came with the Mac.  Can it be set up again?

Also make sure you have the latest drivers, Apples latest for Canon is v3.1, should be available through auto update on App Store - if not you may have to go to the Web Site direct and download.

I have an HP printer but I can not afford to feed it, due to the tri-color cartilages.
I bought a Canon wireless printer and my 2 other HP computers can see it and use it. My Pavilion s-1217 can not see it.
My printer has been checked by Canon and my Router has been checked and upgraded by Belkin. Both are working fine.

I have called HP several times about this computer. The last time, your tech downloaded the HP Print and Scan Doctor software but it can not see this printer.
Canon suggested that the computer may not be able to use IPv4.
AWS: “I think maybe the tech meant it can't use IPV6 as IPV4 is the standard. If your computer couldn't use IPV4 then you wouldn't be able to use the internet at all “
No, the Canon tech stated that this printer uses IPv4. The IPv4 address, according to the print out of the printer's Network Configuration Page is 192.168.2.4. No IPv6 address is listed. The Belkin tech stated that IPv4 is "almost obsolete" and the firmware upgrade he installed had an update to the IPv6 capabilities but no change in IPv4. All three devices are under warrantee and the both the Canon tech and several HP techs have taken remote control of this computer and installed the latest Canon drivers from the Canon website. HP says it is a software problem and that there is nothing wrong with the computer so they will not allow it to be returned. Belkin (one HP tech blamed the Belkin N750 router) and Canon techs say their equipment is working properly and, indeed it does from the two other HP computers we have.
Cindy E:  To reset IPv4 “Select Control Panel > Select Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings.
“Right-click on the Ethernet connection you want to modify > Select Properties > Double click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) > These are your IP address settings. When you are finished, select OK and in the last window click OK again.”
That did it the printer is working fine now

  • HP Photosmart Premium c309g wireless network printing problem with 64bit Windows 7

A problem exists where the c309g is installed on a wireless network where one of the PCs on the network is running 64bit Windows 7.  Amongst other things, the printer may print very slowly, appear disconnected or unavailable through the HP Solutions Centre and may not be pingable from any of the PCs on the network.  The problem will affect ALL the PCs on the network !
Network monitoring software will also show an enormous level of network traffic between the printer and the Windows 7 PC.  As soon as the Windows 7 PC is switched off, everything returns to normal.
    The problem is solved by disabling the HP Network Devices Support Service on the Windows 7 PC as follows;
Run services.msc from the Run command on the Windows 7 PC.  This will display the list of all the local services running on the PC together with Description, Status and Startup Type information for  each.
Scroll down the list until you see the HP Network Devices Support Service.
Right click on it and select Properties to bring up the Properties window.
Use the dropdown list to Change the Startup Type to Disabled.
Once disabled, the printer will start to work normally.  HP are aware of this problem which may be unique to the 64bit version of Windows 7.

Thanks but no luck... I tried it..... Got back from son's baseball game.. checked on printer - as in tried to have printer print something... nothing...   prior to going out I went ahead and deleted the 6  c309 print devices and reinstalled a new one and got the printer to work...  after the game it was back to ignoring print commands...  When I go to printers there again are 6 print devices for this printer - one titled HP Photsmart Premium C309 g-m... then 4 copies of that and then one version titled HP0AC58C (HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m).
As I just finished writting that... the printer came alive and started printing some previous jobs... so maybe it helped - not sure but what about the 6 versions of print devices?   I just checked the statuses of all the versions and the default is offline... the various copies have different amounts in que but have a pending status of pending deletion...  When I tried to make one of the other copies the default printer - it errors out with  0x00000709

  • Printing Problem Solved (Temporary Work-around)

I've posted before, and others have posted here and elsewhere, about problems printing with Aperture since upgrading to Leopard. In my case, it's been with an Epson R1800.
Well, believe it or not, with the help of Epson support on the phone, I've figured this out. First of all, there is definitely a problem with Aperture's (or Leopard's) color management. What used to work (setting a color profile in the Aperture print dialog, and selecting "no color management" in the printer dialog) definitely does not work correctly at this point.
If you want color management, what you have to do is select "System Managed" in the Aperture print dialog, and select (for Epson) "Color Controls - Epson Standard" in the Epson dialog. What this does is select the standard Epson profile for the paper you have selected. For example, if you've chosen Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper, the printer driver will use the "SPR1800 Premium Glossy" profile (Epson's standard profile for that paper, assuming you've downloaded it). Of course, that gives you Epson's version of what you want to print. If you have created your own profiles, using a spectrophotometer for example, you need to get the printer driver to apply YOUR profile instead of Epson's.
Here's how to apply your profile: Open Colorsync (in the Utilities folder), and select "Printers" in the Devices menu. Under the printer model, Stylus Photo R1800, in my case, select the profile for the paper you're interested in, say "SPR1800 Premium Glossy", and look on the right side of the window at "Current Profile:". Click the down arrow, and select "Other". Navigate to the profile you've created, and click "Open". This will set the profile you've created as what the printer driver will use when it thinks it's applying the SPR1800 Premium Glossy profile. Set other paper profiles (e.g., "SPR1800 Enhanced Matte") to whatever profile you've created for those papers.
Now, when you select "System Managed" in the Aperture dialog, and "Color Controls - Epson Standard" in the Epson dialog, it will apply your own profile.
Hopefully, Apple will fix the problem with color management, and we'll be able to go back to color management as it was before. In the meantime, this is the only work-around I've found.

I was/am totally a Mac guy, meaning my roots were System 7 based, and my knowledge of all things UNIX is being built slowly as needed in the OS X world. While I can make Photoshop & Aperture (and the GUI portions of OS X) stand on their heads and do backflips for treats I can't, with much conviction, speak on the roots of UNIX drivers. I think, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, that Gutenprint drivers are CUPS 'compatible' drivers, but not necessarily "CUPS" drivers in that they work with other printing platforms as well. Here are some sources of info:
    http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/
    http://www.cups.org/
The Gutenprint drivers may be the CUPS drivers for the Epson printer, I don't know for sure. On the Canon site, there are two drivers available for download for the Pro9000. One labeled standard, the other labeled CUPS. By default, when adding the printer, my system uses the CUPS driver. I can actually have the Pro9000 added twice, once with the CUPS driver, once with the standard driver. I spoke with an Canon engineer the other day, and contrary to the advice you get from the standard phone support reps, he told me to definitely use the CUPS driver when printing RAW or 16-bit images from Photoshop or Aperture, as it's the only way to do 16-bit printing.
