With Clause in Pro*C?

Is it possible to use version 9's with clause (aka
subquery factoring) within pro*C? Queries that work
fine in SQL*Plus cause the pre-compiler to fail. For
example:
SQL> with test as (select 1 one from dual)
2 select * from test
3 /
ONE
1
Taking the same query and embedding it in a Pro*C program,
produces the following results:
EXEC SQL
with test as (select 1 one from dual)
SELECT *
INTO :n
FROM test;
$ proc ora_test.pc

I suppose that the 'with clause ' is a new feature of ORACLE9 ? Well, lets dive in the fabulous world of ORACLE development :
When the parser of ORACLE9 has been enhanced to accept ORACLE9 new features and syntax (especially the SQL1999 join syntax), the parser of PRO*C and PRO*Cobol still stayed at the ORACLE8 syntax level. The parser is at the Precompiler side.
This means that you have NO CHANCE to even precompile a ORACLE9 syntax SQL statement with any precompiler tool.
This is not a bug (from metalink) because the Oracle Development project for the new parser has not been started yet. I the product is not developped, it is not a bug , and i understand that they cannot correct the flaw.
This is not corrected in any known ORACLE10 version - just because the project has not yet started !!!
The only workaround that i have found consists in using a View which contains the syntax. This works fine for JOIN queries, i do not have tested for the 'with clause'.
Maybe other workarounds available at the metalink side.

  • Using WITH clause in Pro*Cobol

    Hi!
    I am trying to improve the performance of a query by introducing WITH clause.
    The query is in Pro*Cobol Release 9.2.0.6.0 - Production.
    I got compilation error
    WITH DPTCOST AS (
    ...............1
    PCB-S-00400, Encountered the symbol "DPTCOST" when expecting one of the following:
    END-EXEC
    ....continued
    So I wonder if we could use that clause at all with Pro*Cobol
    Here is the excerp of the code
    EXEC SQL
    DECLARE INPUT_ACTUAL CURSOR FOR
    WITH DPTCOST AS (
    SELECT /*+ rule */
    A.CODE_COMBINATION_ID,
    A.SEGMENT1, A.SEGMENT2, A.SEGMENT3,
    A.SEGMENT6,
    D.COSTING, D.PROCESS,
    D.MTL_CODE, D.FACTOR
    FROM
    GL_CODE_COMBINATION A,
    ALCGL_DEPARTMENT_COSTINGS D
    WHERE
    A.TEMPLATE_ID IS NULL
    AND A.SUMMARY_FLAG <> 'Y'
    AND A.SEGMENT1 = D.PLANT_NUMBER
    AND A.SEGMENT3 <> '6999001'
    AND A.SEGMENT3 <> '6999002'
    AND SUBSTR(A.SEGMENT2,4,3) = D.DEPARTMENT
    AND D.ACTUAL_FLAG = 'A'
    ) ... continued

    Materialized views are basically stored query results. They offer advanced functionality like query rewrite, refresh on commit, and more;
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_6002.htm
    Unlike a view, they actually store the results of the query - not just the query;
    SQL> create table t (cid number primary key)
    Table created.
    SQL> insert into t select object_id from dba_objects where object_id is not null
    12791 rows created.
    SQL> create materialized view mv
       as select * from t
    Snapshot created.
    SQL> select object_name, object_type from user_objects where object_name ='MV'
    OBJECT_NAME                    OBJECT_TYPE
    MV                             TABLE
    MV                             MATERIALIZED VIEW
    2 rows selected.
    SQL> select segment_name, bytes from user_segments where segment_name in ('T', 'MV')
    SEGMENT_NAME                        BYTES
    T                                  196608
    MV                                 196608
    2 rows selected.Temporary tables are simply tables that are created then dropped. GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLES have the advantage (or disadvantage) of only existing until commit or the end of the session. They results are visible to the user that inserted the data - but only temporarily;

    How do I use an external display with a macbook pro?

    Just buy the proper adapter cord, such as MiniDisplay port to HDMI for example.  Plug it in and it will be automatically recognized.  Use System Preferences > Displays to set options.
    The display can Mirror your primary desktop or Extend the Desktop.

    I took the liberty of putting the subquery factoring at the beginning, so see if that works.

    Hi,
    I am using Oracle 9i. I have a requirement where I have a REFCURSOR as an OUT parameter for my procedure. I have declared the TYPE and created the procedure.
    In the procedure, I am using OPEN <cursor_name> FOR <query>;
    Ideally this works in most of the cases that I have tried earlier. However, in the current case I am using a WITH clause in my query to get the results.
    I need help in understanding if the above mentioned syntax would not allow me to use the WITH clause in the query.

    What error do you get , seems to work ok for me on 10g
    SQL> begin

  • Synced iphone with my macbook pro, can find the voice memos, help!!

    i synced my iphone with my macbook pro, checked the voice memos option and after syncing was complete (it backed up iphone in the process), i didn't see any new playlist called voice memos on my itunes!! did i lose my voice memos? where did they go? i didn't delete anything from either the phone or the computer.TIA!! on the phone, i don't see the memos too!! anyone has any idea?

    iTunes automatically syncs voice memos to your iTunes library when you connect iPhone to your computer. Voice memos are synced to the Voice Memos playlist. iTunes creates the playlist if it doesn’t exist. When you sync voice memos to iTunes, they remain in the Voice Memos application until you delete them. If you delete a voice memo on iPhone, it isn’t deleted from the Voice Memos playlist in iTunes. However, if you delete a voice memo from iTunes, it is deleted from iPhone the next time you sync with iTunes.
    You can sync the iTunes Voice Memos playlist to the iPod application on iPhone using the Music pane in iTunes.
    To Sync the Voice Memos playlist to iPhone:
    1. Connect iPhone to your computer.
    2. In iTunes, select iPhone in the sidebar.
    3. Select the Music tab.
    4. Select the “Include voice memos” checkbox and click Apply.

    Without seeing what you tried it is hard to say what you did wrong, but this is how it would work
    SQL> create table t ( n number );
    Table created.
    SQL> insert into t
      2  with test_data as
      3    (select 1 x from dual union all
      4     select 2 x from dual union all
      5     select 3 x from dual union all
      6     select 4 x from dual)
      7  select x from test_data;
    4 rows created.

    can I use an USB disc with my macbook pro bought in 2005.  What capacity will it take 2.00 or 3.00?

    The first MacBook Pro's were not released until the beginning of 2006, and they had USB 2 ports.
    Anything available new in 2005 would have been a PowerBook G4 and they also had USB 2 ports.
    A USB 3 disk will just transfer data slower then it could do, if you plug it into a USB 2 port though, so you can buy either.

    If there is no loading bar, it's usually a problem with a third party kext file in OS X itself.
    You can press the power button down to force a hardware shutdown, then reboot holding the shift key down on a wired or built in keyboard, this will disable them and you go around and update your third party software.
    Gray, Blue or White screen at boot, w/spinner/progress bar
    Also take this time to backup your users files off the machine if possible.

  • Using a 30" Cinema Display with new Mac Pro

    Hello Everyone:
    I just purchased, and waiting to arrive a new 2014 8 core Mac Pro which is an upgrade to my 2009 quad core Mac Pro. I currently use a 30 inch Apple Cinema display which has the DVI connection. I was thinking that I would use a DVI to HDMI adapter and plug the 30" into the HDMI port on the new Mac Pro. I have since heard that people have been having issues with this older monitor getting it to work properly with the new mac pro. some have suggested buy the $99 mini display port to DVI adapter and using that, but I don't believe there is a mini display port on the new mac pro.
    I have considered buying a new thunderbolt display because I am assuming that it will have a much better image quality than the older 30 in display but I hate the fact that it's a 27" and I would be giving up the 3" in size. I do a lot of video and audio recording editing and love the extra screen real-estate.  Can anyone confirm a couple of things for me?
    1. Will the 30 inch display work with a new mac pro and can I use the DVI to HDMI adapter?
    2. Does the new Thunderbolt display have a much better image quality than the 30 in display and because its newer, will look that much better with the mach pro?
    Thank you in advance.

    1. Will the 30 inch display work with a new Mac Pro?
    Yes.
    Can I use the DVI to HDMI adapter?
    Not if you want full resolution.  You need a Mini DisplayPort to dual-link DVI adapter
    <http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A/mini-displayport-to-dual-link-dvi-ada pter>
    It plugs into a Thunderbolt port (and USB port) on the computer.
    2. Does the new Thunderbolt display have a much better image quality than the 30 in display and because its newer, will look that much better with the Mac Pro?
    No, it has more pixels (in the vertical direction), but they are spaced a bit more apart, so you don't want  to be as close to the display.

  • HP 2005pr USB 2.0 Port Replicator - Video not with my Surface Pro 3

    Hi everyone,
    I've spent tons of hours already trying to get the HP 2005pr USB 2.0 Port Replicator working with my Surface Pro 3 and no luck. I mean, the USB replication / hub works, meaning that if I plug in a USB mouse / keyboard, they work. It recognizes the device in Device Manager and the ViewSpan application is running. But if I plug in a display in the VGA, nothing happens, no monitor gets detected, and even if I "force-detect" one it still doesn't display anything.
    I've tried with 3 driver versions so far:
    0.2.5 - not working at all. Reboots my Surface while installing. (this one is on the device itself).
    3.X - which is the first with support for Windows 8 I think. I can install it and everything works as described above - meaning no VGA.
    5.3.X - same story as above.
    I've tried uninstalling, restarting and uninstalling several times with both versions. No luck. And I've literally been on every forum where people have problems with the replicator and nothing helped.
    Anyone had any luck getting such a setup to work?
    Or any ideas on how to get it to work?
    Thanks.

    Hi @blinkk2
    I see that you are having problem connecting an external monitor to your Microsoft Surface Pro 3 through the HP USB Port Replicator. As the USB ports are working with the mouse and keyboard we know what the Port Replicator itself is working this is going to be something with the drivers on the Surface. I would recommend contacting Microsoft Support to see if they can recommend a graphics driver for you.
