PC22224 switch fails on boot with message "Invalid switch MAC address"
Ok moderators, I know this is a nonsupported product, but you moved all Switch messages to the archive. This seemed to be the most appropriate folder for it. Hope that's ok?
I have a NEW (can you believe it?) PC22224 managed Cisco/Linksys switch with a problem. When it boots, it passes all tests until it is almost ready to run, then I get this message:
Checking file integrity..... Done
Decompressing Code Image.... Done
System PANIC.....
Invalid switch MAC address
Does anyone know how to correct this problem? I can find nothing on it anywhere on the web.
Thanks in advance!

WLC 5508, vlan select, reserved address in external DHCP server
Hi guys,
I have a deploy with a WLC 5508 version 7.0.116.0, APs mode local and vlan select feature enable. The issue is that the reserved IP address in external DHCP server not work. The DHCP contains a reserved IP address associates with mac address, but the assignement of IP is not match with de policies in DHCP. All others services operate normally.
This reserved assignment operate previusly to modificate the WLAN to vlan select feature. Help me to improve this situation.
Thanks.-
Best regardsHello Abhishek, thanks for you quick answer....
the link was a document used for the deploy, but not especifict nothing about the reserved IP address for particular host. In other words, the reserved IP address (through MAC address) in external DHCP server not work when "vlan select" its enable. -
WLC 5508 , AP client dhcp address different from WLAN interface VLAN subnet?
Hope the title makes sense, here's my situation: I have multiple businesses on 1 WLC 5508, there's a LAG to my core switch with seperate interfaces for each, broken up by vlans.
My question is: if i have a WLAN setup to use interface "Company A" which is vlan 10 with an ip of 10.0.1.5 which then points to 10.0.1.10 for dhcp.
Can the WLAN client connecting to the Company A WLAN use an IP in a different IP range?(192.168.1.10?) can the wlc route? from the perspective of the DHCP server where doers the request come from? (10.0.1.5?)
Can the DHCP server 10.0.10.10 on vlan 10 respond back with and ip on a different subnet to assign to the client to use and still be fully fonctioning? would the default gateway for the client need to be 10.0.1.5? So the clients ip would be 192.168.1.10 /24 with a gateway of 10.0.1.5 (ip adress fo vlan10 interface on WLC) And if multiple clients on the same subnet wanted to talk to each other woudl the WLC know how to route them to each other without passing through the default gateway?
Sorry if this is confusing I'm having a bit of a hard time explaining it in works, i can try and draw somethign up if it makes more sense.
thanks
EricI think if you want these clients to stick to a WLAN configured on a VLAN that has a different IP addressing you could configure your VLAN with the normal IP addressing then add on the SVI the 2nd IP_Class_default_gateway.
E.G.
Vlan 10
interface vlan 10
ip address 10.0.10.1 255.255.255.0
ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0 secondary
Clients that receive IP address from 192.168.1.0/24 network will be able to reach 192.168.1.1 and all traffic will pass right. -
Collecting bulk IPad MAC addresses
HI all-
I work at a school that has a few hundred IPads, and i want to set up MAC Address filtering on the network. Is there a way to collect all the serial numbers and MAC addresses from the master MacBook? I really do not want to have to manually collect them from each IPad manually.
Thanks for any help!!As far as I can tell, since I too wanted this information, Apple Configurator is not storing it. All of the Apple Configurator state (for users, apps, and in this particular case of interest, devices) are stored in two SQLIte databases. As the currently running user of Apple Configurator (it depends how you use it), they are in:
~/Library/Application Support/com.apple.configurator/AppleConfigurator.storedata
~/Library/Application Support/com.apple.configurator/Users.storedata
The names should be self-explanatory, but more or less the latter is blank for me, probably because I do not set users for the iPads we loan out in our organization and deployment model, so there is nothing to correlate to my empty user list. However, if you look in AppleConfigurator.storedata, you will find a table called ZDEVICERECORD with the following columns:
Z_PK
Z_ENT
Z_OPT
ZNAME
ZSERIALNUMBER
ZUDID
As you can tell, the only two columns of value to us Administrators are something we could already determine without look at the internals: the device's serial number and the Unique Device ID which is tied to a specific installation of iOS on an iPad or iPhone. I have seen mention that turning iTunes into Activation Only mode will help, but I call shennanigans. But when I have some iPads back I will try this and see if that data is stored. I am skeptical. -
WLC 5508 and Client IP addresses
we have installed our first 5508 in a small remote office. I setup a DHCP range on the 5508 to give the AP's a IP address. After that I changed the AP's to have static IP address. I wish for the wireless clients to use our DHCP servers here at the home office, so I shut down the DHCP service on the 5508. Now the Clients will not get an IP address. So now I re-enable the scope and the clients get an IP address. How do I configure the 5508 so that the wireless clients will get an IP address from our DHCP servers and not the 5508?
Go to WLAN > click the SSID of your choice > Advanced tab > click on "DHCP Server" and enter the DHCP Server.

Regards,
JackHi Jack,
How many of these packets are you getting ? If it's a small number, I would not worry about it too much.
However, if the number is significant you might not need to isolate it to the application on the server. In general, the IP to MAC conversion is done by the ethernet stack. But it may be an issue with the NIC or a mis-behaving application. It is not always easy to find out which application is causing it. You could do a couple of things (but none of those may solve the problem):
- replace the NIC
- shut down one app on the server at a time and see if the packets stop
Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.

Different AP MAC address shown on wireless client logs
Hello Everyone,
I am really a rookie on wireless networks.
I am investigating an issue where people is unable to do wireless at 2 floors in a building. We are using LAPs.
I asked a person onsite to send me some logs from his Intel Proset tools. The report he emailed me shows no IP Address is being assigned to his PC.
I noticed that the AP MAC address on the logs he provided is lets say ##:##:##:2D:AC:61, I check on the WLC and the AP MAC address is actually
##:##:##:2D:AC:60
Is that an expected behavour, a known issue or something like that?
Your input will be appreciated.
Thanks,
David M.David,
Yes, its the virtual mac. I actually blog in detail about this subject of the virtual mac. Read the below link and you will have your answer!

Two MAC Addresses are showing up under one device
I have an AC1900. My Son and I both have iPad's. In the device list in Smart Wi-Fi, it shows both devices as one.
How do I split these out into two devices so I can manage my son's device with parental control?Did you confirm that the iPads MAC addresses by looking in the iPads settings?
Are both the iPads named the same in the device?
Please remember to Kudo those that help you.

Replication of Mac-Address in HA WLC 5508
Hi,
we have two 5508 WLC and they are in HA,
1)just wanted to know whenever i add new user mac address to the Primary WLC, then how it will replicate to Secondary WLC.
1)if BOX TO BOX connectivity is not there ( other is connected to LAN) Then how we can achieve HA.Hi Sudhir,
In Box to Box connection: Controllers have a dedicated HA(Redundency) port, which is used to synchronize configuration between controllers in the Active and Standby states.
The redundancy port is used for configuration, operational data synchronization, and role negotiation between the primary and secondary controllers.
Bulk configuration during boot up and incremental configuration are synched from the Active WLC to the Standby WLC using the Redundant Port.
Hope it helps.

IPhones not taking ipv4 addresses on Unified Wireless (WLC 5508 and AP 3602)
This is a really odd one...
Earlier this week we started having issues with our BYOD wireless network (802.1x, WPA2+AES) but only with Apple devices (iphone and ipad). Employees with Android or Windows phones are not having any problems at all.
A brief summary of what's observable for the issue:
Radius authentication succeeds (PASS observable in ACS logs)
IPhone status viewed on both controllers (foreign anchor in DMZ as well as corporate WLC) shows phone associated.
Debug client output shows an IPv4 address is actually being assigned to the phone however it appears to ignore it and restart the DHCP request process so debug output shows what looks to be a loop of DHCP request and offer stages.
Infrastructure notes
Cisco WLC 5508s are all running 7.4.121.0 (tried rolling back to 7.2.110.0 .....didn't help)
APs are all 3602I-N-K9
DHCP for the BYOD network is running on the anchor in the DMZ however this was temporarily moved to a switch (had no effect).
Any ideas?
