WLS is slow, Memory Monitoring : what Memory Usage
After new Install WLS10.3.3. with OFRD on VM / Windows
the WLS AdminServer is running very slow,
although nothing app works
the windows TaskManager shows enough memory but high CPU - activities
looking for about it I found a lot but not really to use it simple
or to interprete that:
my adminserver shows this parameters,
any help to resize parameters higher or slower ?

Hi all,
We have WLS 5.1 sp13 running against jdk 1.3.1_06 on Solaris 8 with 512M JVM
heap. We're using the WLS supplied Oracle drivers against Oracle 8.1.7.
Over time, the overal process size floats up to around 2-3GB, but we never
"run out of memory" with Java. This happens after about a week of use.
We restart the server each week for maintenance, so this doesn't cause us
any horrible problems yet, but we are interested as to why the process size
expands so much.
It can certainly be a leak either in the JVM, or Oracle drivers, or perhaps
WLSs JNI bits.
Any hints would be appreciated.
Regards,
Will Hartung

We use win2003,win2008,win2012 servers.
I heard somewhere that Microsoft recommendation threshold of disk usage monitoring is ( free disk space >= 15- 20 %) , if I remember correctly, but how about CPU usage and memory usage monitoring ?
What are Microsoft- or other's-best practice or recommendation of Disk usage, CPU usage, memory usage monitoring to prevent system trouble and improve availability ?Hi,

Slow performance, weird memory usage, hanging when closing safari tab
Hi, i recently noticed that my MacBoo Pro was with low performance after some hours of use.
I'm a heavy user, so I try to monitor what might be causing it. What i note was:
After restart (or fresh start), my computer was ok;
I use applications like adobe Lightroom and VMWare Fusion;
Then I star feeling like Safari was too slow to open pages - I thought it was the internet link first, but even local webpages are slow. I notice that when a click to close a tab, it take almost 2 sec to do it. The same when click to open any link on that page.
I start the activity monitor, but my proc usage are low. Then, I notice the (weird) memory usage:
Take a look at "memory used". I closed all applications before take this screenshot. i've trying to identify what is consuming this memory, but.. no success.
Anyone has any idea what can might be causing it?
My HW information:
all my apps are updated.Memory usage was normal when you took that screenshot.
When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

System Memory Usage: What Eats My Free Memory?
For some time, I have noticed that my computer gets slower the longer I leave it on and do not restart.
Recently, I began displaying system memory usage from the activitiy monitor to see what's going on.
I noticed that no matter what I do, the Inactve Memory grows and the free memory disappears.
I thought it was due to memory hogs like Photoshop, FCP, etc. But even when I quit those programs, the Inactive Memory remains large and only the Active Memory shrinks.
The Inactive Memory grows even (especially?) when I perform finder operations, like previewing file contents in the finder.
Eventually, I get to the point where the free memory disappears and the machine begins to slow down (or at least seems to).
What's going on and what, if anything can I do to keep this from happening?
I'm running an iMac3.4GHz Intel Core i7 with 8 Gigs of RAM and OS 10.6.8.Thanks. I'm not sure what you mean by "screen saver without energy saver" overnight. My settings are screen saver after about 30 minutes, computer sleep after 1 hour. Do you mean run the computer sleep slider up to "Never?"
Otherwise:
--I don't use any of the programs you mentioned.
--I don't think I've ever seen Spotlight indexing
--Time Machine runs every hour of course, but nothing seems to change when it does.
--My 2 TB hard drive is only about 45% full.
--I usually quit programs, and especially Photoshop, when not in use.
--I do reboot occasionally, usually when I see Free Memory disappear. This is usually every few days.
--I use Time Machine to backup using default settings. My 2 TB drive is about 55% full.
I'll slide the energy saver slider over to "never" per the above and see how things go after a few days.
Thanks for your help -
How to monitor java memory usage in enterprise manager
I am running sqlplus to execute a sql package, which generates XML.
When processing 2000+ rows, it will give a out of memory error.
Where in enterprise manger can I see this memory usage?
Thanks.Hello,
it depends a little on what you want to do. If you use the pure CCMS monitoring with the table ALTRAMONI you get average response time per instance and you only get new measurements once the status changes from green to yellow or red.
In order to get continuous measurements you should look into Business Process Monitoring and the different documentations under https://service.sap.com/bpm --> Media Libary --> Technical Information. E.g. the PDF Setup Guide for Application Monitoring describes this "newer" dialog performance monitor. Probably you have to click on the calendar sheet in the Media Libary to also see older documents as well. As the Business Process Monitoring integrates with BW (there is also a BI Setup Guide in the Media LIbrary) you can get trendlines there. This BW integration also integrates back with SL Reporting.
Some guidance for SL Reporting is probably given under https://service.sap.com/rkt-solman but I am not 100% sure.
Best Regards

In OSX Activity Monitor, what's the difference between 'free' memory and 'inactive' memory
In OS X Activity Monitor, what's the difference between 'free' memory and 'inactive' memory. My daughters 2Gb MacBook Pro is very slow, it probably needs more memory but there is almost 1Gb of 'inactive' memory but no 'free' memory when an application is opened.
ThanksFree RAM is the one that has not been used by any application since you started up your Mac, and inactive RAM is the one that was used by an application and it is not in use anymore.
1 GB of inactive RAM is a lot, and it may be the cause of the slowness. There are a lot of apps that allows you to turn inactive into free RAM. I use FreeMemory, but have a look at the Mac App Store.
If you are a developer, you can do that with a command you can type into Terminal:
sudo purge -

Hi,
I have a 20" iMac with 2 Gig RAM.
I have iPhoto 6.0.6 with lots and lots of pictures and little movies (taken with an old digital camera) -- a "get info" on the "iPhoto Library / Originals" folder says there are 9836 items in there.
When I open iPhoto, the Activity Monitor indicates iPhoto is using 130meg real memory, 130meg virtual memory. With every "page down" in iPhoto (the thumbnails are running about 6 items across) about 50 meg of memory gets added to real memory, and even more gets added to virtual memory.
After just a few minutes of usage it now looks like this:
Real Memory: 382.43 MB
Virtual Memory: 1.18 GB
Eventually the computer gets extremely slow and unresponsive; I've seen the iPhoto memory usage as high as:
Real Memory: 1+ GB
Virtual Memory: 2+ GB
Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can fix this problem?I have to say that the Virtual Memory numbers compare quite okay with both my Macs here, the Actual Seems slightly higher but noting spectacular. That said, the highest you’ve seen do see quite extraordinary.
Something to try:
Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and make a library there. Import some pics and see if the problem is repeated there.

Memory Usage: Heap space vs System Monitor
Hi guys
I'm trying to wrap my head around something which seems pretty complicated. We have an enterprise app making use of Jasper Reports. When a report is generated, the app's memory usage in the Linux (Ubuntu 8.10) System Monitor shoots up by around 20MB (the more data on the report, the higher that number). After the report is closed, memory usage doesn't decrease. This is resulting in performance issues, and memory usage given by the System Monitor doesn't match up with the results given by the NetBeans profiler. There is a huge difference between the values indicated by the System Monitor, and the heap space given by the profiler. I've done some fairly detailed checking using the profiler, and according to that, there are 0 instances of our report generating classes in memory after closing a generated report. I've read a bunch of articles on the net, but I'm still stumped. My best guess is that something weird is happening somewhere in the Jasper code, but I can't really think of a way to confirm that. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this and how to prevent it? Any help will be much appreciated; thanks.
P.S. I've posted on the Jasper forums are well, but to no avail. [http://jasperforge.org/plugins/espforum/view.php?group_id=102&forumid=103&topicid=65335]
Edit: We're using Java 6 (we've recreated the issue on a few release of Java 6), and Jasper Reports 3.0.1. (Just in case that is important)One thing about your test is that using Xms110m will cause the JVM to NEVER give back any memory, because it won't ever go below 110M. I altered your test a bit:
import java.util.LinkedList;
public class MemTest {
private static LinkedList<byte[]> mem = new LinkedList<byte[]>();
public static void main(String[] args) {
try {
System.out.println("Initial:");
print();
useMem();
System.out.println("Allocated:");
print();
clearMem();
System.out.println("Deallocated:");
print();
for (;;) {
Thread.sleep(10000);
System.out.println("After 10 seconds: ");
print();
} catch (Exception ex) {
ex.printStackTrace();
private static void useMem() {
for (;;) {
try {
mem.add(new byte[1024*1024]);
} catch (OutOfMemoryError e) {
//free up a few MB to make sure we don't get an OOME while trying to print, etc
mem.removeFirst();
mem.removeFirst();
mem.removeFirst();
break;
private static void clearMem() {
mem = null;
System.gc();
System.gc();
System.gc();
private static void print() {
long free = Runtime.getRuntime().freeMemory();
long total = Runtime.getRuntime().totalMemory();
double freeFraction = (((double)free) / (total)) * 100;
System.out.printf("\tAvailable: %d\tTotal: %d\tFree: %4.2f%%%n", free, total,
freeFraction);
}When I ran it with
-Xms16m -Xmx1024m -XX:MinHeapFreeRatio=20 -XX:MaxHeapFreeRatio=30I got these results:
Initial:
Available: 16518016 Total: 16711680 Free: 98.84%
Allocated:
Available: 2070952 Total: 1065484288 Free: 0.19%
Deallocated:
Available: 582957376 Total: 583073792 Free: 99.98%
After 10 seconds:
Available: 582953224 Total: 583073792 Free: 99.98%As you can see, the JVM did return about half of the memory back. ProcExp shows ~592MB used, and peaked ~1000MB. But right now it's still running, and still holding at 583MB.
I've read bug reports like this, but honestly have no idea what the people at Sun are talking about. I don't see the footprint being reduced. I don't know, maybe if I wait a couple of days... -
Withdraw permission allowing you to monitor memory usage
I now often have to either force quit, reboot and have started having kernel "panics" since I agreed to allow Firefox monitor CPU usage. I am still running OS X 10.6.8 on my Mac's. I have had no problems with anything since installing that OS X.
However, from time to time with the latest install of Firefox 7.0.1 I find that the program and/or my computer "locks" up and appears unresponsive. I left Firefox active and resident on my computer last night and again everything will non-responsive. I opened activity monitor and noticed that Firefox was consuming 283 MB of real memory (at present 298.6 MB) and I have this an an other tab for the Seattle Times open. I withdraw my permission to allow Firefox to monitor my memory usage and need to know how to remove the cookie or what ever governs that)Come on Firefox! Since your upgrades starting with FF4, Firefox has been acting like garage. It locks up constantly and I find myself having to use FF3.6.23 just to get my work done.
The most frustrating thing is we never hear from you. We don't know if you hear us, if you're working on it, or if you just plain don't care! I've been reacquainting myself with Safari and Google Chrome just in case I get so fed up I can't take it any more.
I believe you're monitoring mine also.
I'm on a March 2007 Mac Book Pro using OSX 10.6.8 -
Slow performance and high memory usage
I do website development so I have Firefox, IE, Chrome and Opera, all updated to the most recent versions. However, for as long as I can ever remember, Firefox has always used more system resources.
As an example, I opened up one site in all 4 browsers and here is the memory usage for each one:
Firefox 200,016
Chrome 5,476k
Chrome 33,504k
Chrome 2,008k
Chrome 4,592k
Chrome 6,374k
Chrome 31,320k
Total 83,274k
IE 44,412k
IE 6,104k
Total 50,516k
Opera 70,704k
This Firefox had all add-ons disabled. Yet I still use Firefox as my default browser mainly due to a couple of add-ons that I find very helpful for what I do.
My question is why does Firefox have to be so much of a resource hog? Can't programmers write tighter code that executes faster? It's a great browser but when gaming, I usually use one of the other browsers.
I've included the clipboard from the troubleshooting information so hopefully that will help someone pinpoint a reason for this problem.
All-in-all, good work on the version 8.Have you tried creating a new profile to see if a vanilla profile (with '''no''' add-ons) is also slow for you? One of the things showing in your troubleshooting report is a network printer. A fresh profile without that network printer and with no residual add-on data may be considerably faster.

Activity monitor memory usage pie chart gone?
What happened to the pie chart that sits in the dock that shows memory usage? I found this very useful in the past, and Mavericks seems to have removed it from the dock options.
Uhhh, I know it's a bit late for this but...

I don't have a dock icon called "memory pressure graph".
I have
CPU Usage
CPU History
Network Usage
Disk Activity
so it's hard to know what you're taking about when referring the the "memory pressure graph".
Please clarify. Thanks!
... it sounds like you have a previous version of the Activity Monitor. The one that comes with 10.9 has
CPU
Memory
Energy
Disk
Network
The memory pressure is at the bottom of the Memory tab. -
Resource monitoring - memory usage
I typically use the system monitor on our SLES11 SP2 server (OES11 SP1). The server has 48 GB of memory as our backup software, Arkeia, loves memory. When monitoring resource usage during an Arkeia backup job, I notice that my memory usage remains around 9.4 GB. However, if I look at the process table, my Arkeia job is using well over 16 GB alone.
So the questions are : Why the difference? And is this a bug?
The one thing that comes to mind is the resource monitor is only looking at OS memory usage and is not adding "user process" memory. Any thoughts on this? Chris.What exact tool(s) are you using to monitor Arkeia's memory usage, and the overall memory usage? Can we see their output please? I'd guess they're really looking at different things.

When loading a page with many hires images, Firefox becomes really slow and scrolling becomes jumpy then eventually becomes completely unresponsive. Unusual high memory usage of up to 2gigs just for firefox when loading these pages. This was never a problem with v3.6.
I encountered the same type of problem. Firefox running terribly slowly and slowing down my entire machine (Core i5 with 256GB SSD). Searching the forums, I found a couple of things about troubleshooting performance issues, one of which was to use '''hardware acceleration''', that is on by default. It was turned on on my PC, '''so I tried deactivating it, and it worked!'''
So doing the exact opposite as Mozilla support said solved the problem. It is really a pain now to work with Firefox. I'm using it because I have no choice, but I'd recommend IE and Chrome over Firefox... Whatever, the market will decide once Firefox has become to crappy... -
I got my iPhone 4s screen fixed, now in my Photos it shows nothing, although in my memory usage it shows 10.5gb of photos, thats 2000 photos not showing up. What happened?! Where did all my photos go?!
WOOHOO!!! i finaly fixed the problem. Here is what to do:
Chances are if you did the same thing as me you either have
A) No album names at all for ALL your songs in your library
or
B) Have the same name for every album for ALL your songs in your library.
Here is how to fix it (yah it will take a little work but its worth getting your iPod functioning properly).
Unless you dont want to have to go and actualy set al lthe album names for every song here is what you can do:
Go through to iTunes and arange your songs by Artist name. Click the top song for your first artist, hold Shift and click the last song for that same artist (to multi select all the songs for the artist) go into get info and check the Album box. Copy the name of the artist to the Album box and hit ok.
Now when u update your ipod and go into ur Artists section the actual Artist name should show up instead of the song names.
For some reason having the same album name for all your songs messes up the organization of the iPod.
Hope this helps anyone else that is having the same problem
