Word to PDF looses numbering

I have an Adobe PRO 11 user converting a word Document to PDF using PDFMAKER and all of the numbering is disappearing from left column,.  Has anyone had this happen and if so what is the fix?

  • Word to PDF - Page Numbering Problems

When I use the combine files tool in Acrobat 8 for PDFing word documents instead of the page numbering being 1/3, 2/3, 3/3, it comes out as 1/1, 2/2, 3/3. I've tried looking at all the settings and cant find a logical reason for this. It also happens when I print to PDF while in Word.
Has anyone else experienced this same problem?

Here are a couple links that should help.

  • Page numbers are not generated correctly when print from Word to PDF

Whenever I print my Word document to PDF, my page numbers do not reflect the page numbers shown in Print Preview.
For example, I have a Word document with 10 pages and after generating it as PDF, the page number shows Page 1 of 1; Page 2 of 2; Page 3 of 3; ......Page 10 of 10.
Please advise what may be the cause and how can I rectify this problem?
    Thank you.

    Thank you for your reply.
I do have some sections breaks on the pages, however the pages are all shown in running sequence even on Preview page.
It is the final generated document that has this problem.
I emailed my colleagues my WORD document and ask them to generate to PDF and they have no issues printing the WORD to PDF and every pages were in running order.
    Any other advise?

  • Word to PDF does not keep hyperlinks in Table of Contents ?

I have used my free trial of Adobe CreatePDF before purchasing the annual subscription.
I was surprised to see that the PDF document did not keep the clickable hyperlinks that Word uses in a Table of Contents. As this is the exact same behaviour as the "Save as PDF ..." option that I have natively available on my computer I don't see the point of paying a subscription to the service. Or am I doing something wrong?
    MAC OS X Lion (10.7.2)
    Office for Mac 2011
150-page .doc document with Section, Chapter, and various Heading Styles defined
    WORD automatically-built Table of Contents
In the WORD document, the page numbers in the Table of Contents are hyperlinks to the concerned page
Convert WORD to PDF using "Save as PDF ..." option in the "Print..." dialog box
====> Table of Contents hyperlinks are not preserved (the page numbers are no longer clickable)
Convert WORD to PDF using Adobe CreatePDF
====> Table of Contents hyperlinks are not preserved (the page numbers are no longer clickable)
Am I missing something or is this the way it is intended (not) to work?
P.S.: I know that, on the MAC, I can use Preview to manipulate the PDF document I obtain through "Print..." > "Save as PDF...". One of the things I can do is to select the page numbers in the Table of Contents and add a 'link' to each. But this is a VERY cumbersome process. Actually, I have to create a link for each page number, one at a time, on a table of contents that may consist of in excess of 50 entries. As I have a collection of 50-odd documents and am on a schedule of distributing new versions every two weeks or so, this procedure is completely unusable. Hence my search for a (paid) service that converts my documents while preserving the hyperlinks of the Word-created Table of Contents. Either I am doing something wrong or such service does simply not exist ...

    Good day fgrexsg,
You are correct in that the workflow you described will not produce links in the resulting PDF files.  The steps that Lori outlined work great if you're working on Office for Windows in terms of getting the links to work when converting using the CreatePDF service.
In order to make this work on the Mac, you'll have to take a few extra steps within Office first.
You're going to have to repeat this step for each item in your TOC.  While this will be time-consuming for a 150-page document, it will work.
Within your TOC, highlight the entire entry listing (e.g. Topic 1.........3)
Once the entire line is highlighted, choose Insert > Hyperlink
Click 'Document' to select a location within the current document.
Under the 'Anchor' option, either type in the Heading/Sub-heading (must be exact) of the page you want the hyperlink to attach to or click 'Locate' and find the proper Heading/Sub-heading within the structure.
As I said, this will probably be time-consuming on such a large document, but it will work.
Unfortunately Office for Mac just simply isn't as full-featured as its Windows counterpart.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
    Kind regards,
    David

  • Mac: no PDFMaker, so printing from Word to PDF has inactive links

I have written a fabulous document in Microsoft Word, which has paragraph numbering, and many ‘Insert > Cross-reference…’ links to paragraphs. And it contains lots of ‘Insert > Hyperlink…’ links to external documents. It’s fabulous.
If I saved this to PDF using a Windows machine, those links would work in the PDF. Clicking on a cross-reference would jump there; clicking on an external link would command the default browser to do the obvious thing. Hurray!
But on the Mac, the external links aren’t there. Not if I do “Save as PDF…”, nor if I do it via Adobe Acrobat XI with “Save as Adobe PDF”.
If the link text is there “http://…” then the PDF reader guesses it is a link, and it works. But if ordinary words have been made into a link, it is formatted as a link but is inactive.
Please, how can Adobe be persuaded to release PDFMaker for the Mac? Or otherwise make this work? (Adobe Acrobat XI: Help and tutorials (September 2013), on page 46: “PDFMaker is not available for Mac OS. However, you can still create PDFs from many business applications using the File > Print command. In the Print dialog box, choose Save AsAdobe PDF from the PDF menu.”)
FYI, I also asked this question on the Microsoft side, but other than discovering that PDFMaker would solve my problem if it existed for the Mac, that didn’t help.
    Versions:
    Mac: OS X Mavericks 10.9.5
Word: Word for Mac 2011 Version 14.4.3 (140616)
    Adobe Acrobat XI: 11.0.09

Actually PDF Maker has never been available on the MAC as I understand it. At Buying guide | Adobe Acrobat XI Pro it is indicated that PDF Maker is available on on Windows (has a little dagger that indicates this and is probably hard to catch). I can understand that it may be related to the way that OFFICE is written for the MAC. One of the members drops by to help folks with MAC issues like this at times. He apparently has some work-arounds. If the MS PDF plugin will create the links on the MAC, then an alternative is to print the document to an temp file and create the base file with the plugin, then use replace pages to get the printed version included, or just live with the MS produced version. I don't remember if the MS plugin creates the bookmarks and such.

  • Font Conversion issues from Word to PDF

I'm using Acrobat Pro 9 and Word 2007. My Word document has Heading styles with numbers, and a table of contents is built upon the styles. Every font is Arial. When I convert the Word document to PDF, the numbering all turns to Times New Roman, but the text remains Arial.  Help. How can I fix this?
    Linda

You were right, it was a Word numbering style issue. I have finally figured it out and it appears to be working correctly now.
    Thanks,

  • Trouble with Bookmarks from Word to PDF

Use Windows 7; Office 2007; Acrobat Pro 9.0.0
Problem:  Word document has numbered scheme, with blue font to signify a link in resultant pdf.  Set
Preferences to capture level 1 and 2 for bookmarks in pdf.  Create PDF.  Resultant pdf doesn't hold the blue font from within Word.
Pdf is all in black.  Bookmarks are sometimes renumbered; i.e. A1, B2, etc. instead of 1., 2., etc.  Bulleted list has different symbol font applied.  Why?

Acrobat compatibility for Windows 7 starts with Acrobat 9.2.
    See: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/faq/
The first step may be to place the installed Acrobat 9.x to the current dot release via sequence install of available updates, .

  • Best solutions for storing text, Word and pdf documents on iPad

I just switched from using a powerbook to an iPad + microkeyboard for my work computer (I'm freelance and need to bring my own device wherever I go), and I love the size and weight of it compared to a laptop.
What I am glitching on is the fact that I cannot save documents to my ipad. Clients email Word and PDF docs to me, and I have (very few of) my own docs, such as resumes, which I need to update slightly and send out to them as well. It's not ideal when I need to send out a resume to dig through my Sent folder on Mail and forward it, creating a new email but just saving the attachment. I also need to access certain received documents repeatedly as reference. I'm surprised iOS for iPad doesn't have a "Documents" folder as OS X does.
How are users working around this problem currently? Please give me suggestions for solutions. I'm hopeful that future iterations of iOS will provide a way to store and access a personal library of documents as it does photos and videos, so I will commit to working through this in the short term. What are your work arounds?
    T

I doubt iOS will ever change. iOS does not have a file manager system like you're used to on a laptop or desktop, so it lacks the ability to access files like you're used to. So whatever workarounds you find will likely become your regular work flow. If Apple hasn't added a file manager to iOS in the past 5 (give or take) years it's doubtful they'll do so in the future...the lack of a file manager is why the iOS operating system is so secure, viruses can't infect and use a file manager system to spread if they don't have one.)
iOS ties the access to files to the apps that access them. As you said, photos with the photos app, music with the music app. With your purchase of a new iOS device you are eligible for free Apple apps, amongst them Pages and Numbers, Apple's word processing and version of excel.. You can store your documents in that app and access them that way. Or there are tons of other word processing apps. I use Documents to Go (although it's not free so you may wish to  experiment with the free apps first before  you start paying)
File transfer....well Apple's work flow is that everyone has access to always on and always available internet, thus their workflow being built around the cloud and using the internet for file transfer, as well as e-mailing stuff to yourself. There are some flash drives out there that have their own wifi transmitter that may help you. You'd plug them into another computer, put the file on it, turn on the wifi transmitter and use a small localized hotspot to connect your ipad to and download the files to your iPad via an app that will come with the flash drive.

  • How to Count total number of Words in PDF?

I am used Adobe Acrobat javascript inbuilt function getPageNumWords(<pagenumber>) it return the number of words present in specified page, but while am copy and paste text content from PDF file to MS Word, Words count given by MS Word is little bit differ, so any one know in which aspect Acrobat count the words?
Which words count result is correct?
Shall is go with Acrobat Words count result or MS Words count result?
But I want to count the total number of words in PDF file (my input is PDF file) else can I go with iText?
Words count in PDf using iText is possible?

Word counts are likely to vary a little according to how you count. For instance, are hyphenated words one or two words? What if the hyphen is at the end of a line? Do numbers count as words? Headers and footers? Captions?
Generally, you just accept a slight variation. If you are counting words in a professional context, i.e. where payment is per word, you probably need a contractual definition of how words are to be counted; in the absence of one, I suggest you use Word.

  • When converting word to pdf the cover page of my documet gets page number 1.On the original the numb

When converting word to pdf the cover page of my documet gets page number 1.On the original the number pages start from the second page. How to keep the original format?

Michael's reponse is correct. However, as far as I knew, OFFICE 2007 came with printer metrics turned off, meaning it is not supposed to be sensitive to the printer selection. The setting is buried in the options list for compatibility. If it is turned off and a change in printer does affect the result, it would appear just one more of the many things in OFFICE 2007 that MS messed up. The latest one for me has been helping students with the messed up equation editor when you want to add equation numbers in a "standard" way. One of the MS employees even wrote a workaround macro for that problem.

    Hi ...
Checked to see how much free space there is on the startup disk lately?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.

If disk space is not the issue, booting in Safe Mode deletes system caches that may help.
A Safe Mode boot takes longer then a normal boot so be patient.
Once you see the Desktop, click the Apple menu icon top left corner of the screen.
From the drop down menu click Restart.
See if that makes a difference ...
