Workflow hanged- Background Task in Process.

Hi All,
Workflow hanged at background task with status in Process due to a dump…we change the logic now.
How I can restart this task again?
I checked in SWPC its empty.

Yes, SWI2_DIAG has a Restart Workflow' button.
Did you try it already?
Despite what the button name suggests, it 'resumes' the workflow from the current step
(it doesn't 'restart' from scratch).

Background task stuck

Hi All,
In my workflow, a background task is stuck.the task hasnt failed.
When completed manualy from SWIA, task is completed successfully.
I will be thankful for guideing why this task is stuck at runtime and how this bug/prob can be resolved.

Are you saying that the background task fails when first called in the workflow but when resumed it works? You also mentioned that when completed in SWIA it works, please note that when you complete something in SWIA you are not actually running the code; you are merely marking that workitem as completed so that the workflow can proceed. The transactions mentioned above should guide you to the problem. It could be a short dump or a failed workitem.
I've seen some instances where it is the security profile of the WF-BATCH user. This will cause the background task to fail. Then, when you as a workflow administrator go to SWPR and start from there, it will work. So, turn the authorization trace on and see if that's a reason (transaction ST01 can be used for that).

Background Task status is halted in 'In Process'

Hello,
The background task in a workflow template is halted in the 'In Process' state and the workflow is not completed. When I tried to execute the method from SWO1 separately, it is working fine.
Please do let me know if I am missing out something.

Hi Samson,
You can also check in tx SWU2 if there aren't any local rfc's stuck in there.
To investigate the problem tx SWPC might help (it is precisely designed to restart workflows with a background task stuck into "in progress" status).

Background Task on Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Premiere Elements Organizer "hangs"

I recently upgraded my software from Elements 10 to Elements 12 and had a bit of trouble. Apparently both 10 and 12 have a way of launching an executable in the background which tends to get "stuck" on my system. I believe the problem may be related to the network configuration and software mix I live with, but I need to confirm my suspecions and find a way to control the problem. Here is what I know... I have always experienced a lot of problems using Elements with my NAS device which is a 1TB usb 2.0 connected disk system attached to my Linksys E3000 Router. When I got the router, the BIOS software did not correctly support NTFS file systems, but subsequent updates eventually made this possible if you formatted the removable drive on a system in NTFS, you could then hang it on the router and "see" the contents, serve them via Windows Media Player, or iTunes, etc., etc. from a computer atteched to the network, or via wirless directly off the router. I archived all my photos out on this file system and have successfully indexed it for use with Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Premiere Elements Organizer, but... When I went to install Elements 12 software I tried to install it without first removing Elements 10, and on a system which had run Elements 10 since the last full reoboot. During the install of 12 under "shared services install" the installation process "Hung" on a background task with a name like "AdobeElementsAnalyzer.exe" which only shows up in Windows 7 task manager as a running process, not as a full program, but because the file was locked by the system, the install hung. I eventually figured out that I needed to start the install of Elements 12 software immediately after having rebooted so that this program was not present in the background, and succeeded in completing an install of Elements 12 on my Windows 7 X64 system. This system required a "special" software download for Premiere Elements, but not for Photoshop Elements which is only apparently avaliable under 32bit emulation mode. I finally got the "shared components" portion of the X64 Premiere Elements to complete an install, and then set about verifying the onversion/upgrade of the indexes to my photos and video stored out on the NAS. The same rogue task which prevented me from doing the install showed up agian, taking all the system resources away from my dual processor Intel chip and refusing to let go. I was forced to terminate it from the task manager. I strongly suspect that my "issues" are in part due to the extrordinary network latency imposed by the drive connection I'm using to index my photos and videos, and I'm looking for a better approach to using the editors against my master catalog of files, as well as figruing out just what I need to do to insure that all the files I have stored on the drive are accessible by the organizer when I need to pull a copy to work on.
A complication is that I have two "legacy" Windows XP systems on my network, a reasonably fast Windows Vista Business desktop, and the Windows 7 X64 processor system which is the most powerful system I have. The Windows file security enhancements to NTFS changed from XP, to Vista, to Windows 7, so files which get saved to the NAS disk inherit a variety of different levels of security under windows. I have occasionally gone to one of my old XP boxes and "wiped" the security settings by resetting everything via Windows XP. Because the NAS is so slow, this process can take several hours and must not be interrupted by attempts to do anything affecting the NAS by any of my other networked computers. To avoid problems with my photo archive, it makes sense to me to do all my editing on copies which have been extracted from the NAS archive and stored on the C: drive (boot drive) of my Win X64 system.
What I seriously need to know is this: When/If I define a "watched" portion of my file system, rather than taking the time to manually import every little change to my photo archives, can I expect the Photoshop Elements Organizer to work properly as long as everything stored on the NAS is stored via the same system which runs Elements with the same active "user" in control so that all the windows 7 file security settings putting stuff on the mapped NAS drive remain properly secured under Win 7 X64? Frankly I don't care if the files appear "read only" to every other system and identity on my network, but I do need to be able to "see" them. I have been able to view slide shows and movies stored on the NAS via both my networked iPad, my Apple TV, and using Samsung's funky android and Windows compatible software. Frankly, I doubt that Microsoft or Apple has full understanding and control of the environment where there is no host "server" other than the eprom based stuff my Linksys E3000 loads to emulate early Windows Media Management architecture, but I mange to get it to work as long as I don't try anything sophisticated with the file permissions. As a fall back, can I expect individual "imported" bits out on the NAS to remain stable if indexed and used only by the Elements Organizer running on my Win 7 X64 system?
I am seriously considering converting an old WinXP desktop into a UNIX box which could be configured as a "Server" for everything stored on the NAS and be done with my problems in return for the power required to run the server all the time so stuff is there when I need it. Any recommendations?

Adobe hasn't said whether it officially supports PSE 7 on Windows 7. But reports are starting to trickle in that PSE 7 works fine on Windows 7 for most people, though a couple people have reported crashes. My PSE 7 seems to work fine, though I primarily use PSE 8 now. This is all very preliminary, and we'll learn more as more people post here.

BackGround Task to execute report is 'IN PROCESS'

Hello Experts,
I have developd a workflow where i have added a task which will execute a report in background as code below -
SUBMIT rhakti00
     USING SELECTION-SCREEN 1000
    WITH SELECTION-TABLE rspar
      AND RETURN.
The output of the report is not relevant for my req so i dnt need to display the output of report after thts y i want to run this report in background.
Now,while executing the task ,the report has started executing in background perfectly but tht task remain in 'IN PROCESS' status. When i checked the tRFC for that task so its showing me mesaage that - "Screen output without connection to user."
Plz suggest how to complete my background task.

regarding ur point to send report output to many users....i want to make it clear tht i dont need to send or display the output of the report. I just need to execute the report in background and task shud get complete.
Also,Can u plz explain it further abt writing code in FM and thn get the output in export or table parameter.......i mean which field or which table of which type shud i use in export or table paramenters of FM. if u can tell me somethg in coding also..tht will ne helpful...

Background task stays with status "in process" without creating any error

Hi all,
we created a two step approval workflow for parked documents based on the SAP WF templates WF WS10000051 (WF frame) and WS10000053 (two step approval sub WF). The problem now is, that after the two approvals have been given and the release flag is set the system should post the document. This is done in a background task. This task is started automatically but the status stays at "in process" and the document remains "parked" and not posted.
What we did so far to solve the problem:
1.) Check if shortdump has been created via ST22 --> not the case
2.) Refreshed buffer via SWU_OBUF
3.) Reacticvated/executed task with workitem id from log in SWIA
--> nothing solved the problem so far. Please help!

                        Populating means conceiving the variable or container with valid value.In your scenario , with reference to your URL http://img851.imageshack.us/i/wflog2.jpg/ , POSTED_FLAG should be populated with value X.It should not be "Not Set".
                        With reference to your URL http://img717.imageshack.us/i/wfprotocol.jpg/, Set Release Flag step does not sets release flag.

            The solution for your problem is straight forward : Pass all the export or result parameters of RELEASE step to SET RELEASE FLAG step. Similarly , pass all the export or result parameters of SET RELEASE FLAG step to POST PARKED DOCUMENT STEP.
Answer for question 1 : After successful workflow transportation, it's version changes.Never mind the versions unless either of the versions are inactive or the version you require is inactive.
Answer for question 2 : The user WF-BATCH should have SAP_ALL and SAP_NEW profiles.

Workflow task "In Process".

Hi Experts,
i have created a workflow for some accounts transfer procedure. there is a background task for transferring of accounts. When i am testing the workflow sometime this task executes in 10 mins(as it is background task and background tasks have low priority) and sometime its stucks in the "in process" status and does not executes.
What should i do in this case ?

Hi Raman,
You can execute the method seperately to know where it is taking more time.
TO do this,
1) Go to transaction SWO1
2) Enter the name of the BO and press on display button.
3) Click on Execute/Test button (F8)
4) Click on instance button and provide the input there.
5) Select the method which you are using and execute it
6) Select debugging mode and see where it is taking more time.

Two transactions, same program, processed in background task problem

Y0 Team ABAP,
i got something here that bugs me.
I have done a report. Nothing special, simple selection screen, selection of data, and output via SALV.
One of my selection screen fields (a parameter) is VKBUR and it is "obligatory".
2 weeks ago i got the requirement to create a copy of this program, and adopt VKBUR as select option.
Since i didnt want changeanomalies i decided not to duplicate the program, but just add a second transaction to my program.
In a routine at event at-selection-screen output, i´m hiding either the parameter or the select option, depending on which tcode was used.
In some routine which gets triggered at the event at-selection-screen i´m moving either what we got in our parameter to our local range we use for the select, or just assign the select option to our local range, or process an error message if according field is not filled. Yeah that obligatory condition is done by myself since i cant just set the obligatory addition to the statement.
This all works quite fine so far.
BUT:
Today i hear that the end-users process that report in background task by pressing F9.
Problem is now that when it is processed in background task, sy-tcode is initial, so i dont know which of the transactions the user picked, and so i dont know which of the two fields has to be filled.
Sure i could do another report, containing just my second selection screen, and when this is checked, do a submit on my real report, tho i still believe there must be some more elegant way.
Any ideas?

Unfortunateley those subtotals cant be handeled by the layout, thats why i manually add them.
But you got me back on track! right now i´m for your solution.
right now i´m having just ONE selection screen with the select option on it.
User can decide if he fills just one value or more.
In the end i loop over my output table and look if there are records of different VKBUR´s.
If there are i know he wants subtotals and process them. If its just data of one VKBUR i can spare myself the hassle as there is anyway just one records per VKBUR so subtotaling this wouldnt make sense.

I am working om std SAP workflow for invoice document parking :
I have done the following activities :
1. Activate Work flow Template for Document Completion
    Here i activated the event   "Complete the Parked Log. IV Document"--> Incoming Invoice Document Parked. It is showing      a green traffic light .
In agent assignment
Complete the Parked Log. IV Document>Complete the Parked Log. IV Document>Complete the Parked Invoice--> i have assigned the user MMCONFIG
2. In Define Release Criteria i have the following settings :
   1000          H Credit     0.01     INR     US     MMCONFIG
   1000          S Debit     0.01     INR     US     MMCONFIG
3. In Activate Workflow Template for Release for Posting
Here i activated the event Incoming Invoice Complete: ReleaseRel & i m getting a green traffic light .
In assign agents i did the following
Release the Completed Log. IV Document>Release the Completed Log. IV Document>Release the Completed Log. IV Document i assigned the user MMCONFIG
In Invoice Parking: Approve Release i assigned the user MMCONFIG .
For Invoice Parking: Release Invoice
Invoice Parking: Posting an Invoice " I AM NOT ABLE TO ASSIGN ANY USER AS THESE ARE BACKGROUND TASKS ".
Now when do a MIR7 - Park invoice & save the invoice as complete i am getting a mail in the mail box of MMCONFIG saying :
"Invoice Release 5105xxxxxxx 2009, Completed by MMCONFIG "
I go & release the same invoice .
Then i executed MIRO & tried posting the released invoice . The sysem doesnt allow me 2 post the invoice .
It automatically goes to MIR4 transaction & forces me to save as complete
if i try to post it the system says "Parked document is release-relevant and cannot be posted"
Pls tell me how can I post the invoice & IF MY SETTINGS FOR THE WORKFLOW IS OK ???

Task has been transported from develpment client to another client for integration testing.
in the shopping cart advice product has been created by the employee.
then it goes to advisor for the approval
This has been done by the workflow.
It is implemented in both dutch and english.
English - it is working fine.
Dutch - the task is not defined.(the code is missing)
after transporting , we did changes in the task created for implementing this approval description.
It was working fine in both dutch and english.
But the corrections in the code are there....
only in the output After transported to another client dutch part approval description is not correct some part of it are missing
Is the problem related to the transport or with the modifications of task defined ??
Can anyone suggest me how to solve this problem.

Function called IN BACKGROUND TASK goes to work process DIA, not BGD

I'm calling a function IN BACKGROUND TASK
In SM50, I see it running in a DIA work process.
I want it to run in a BGD work process.
Can this be done? If so, how? If not, why not?

It looks like, it will always run in DIA process and not Background process...I am not sure that we can change the work process

In background updating, an update is run in another dialog work process that may be in the same or in another application server and R/3 System. Because such updates run in their own LUWs, they may start only after all critical updates have been completed. Otherwise, it would not be possible to roll back background changes in the event of an error in another update component. "

Background method in workflow hangs

Hi All,
I have a background method in workflow which calles a report. Actually the report calles smartforms and I am storing OTF data on application server. I am not displaying the print preview. I am just stroring the OTF data on application server.
When I explicitely execute the report from SE38 in background (using F9) file is getting generated on application server. But when I call this report from method of a workflow, method execution remains in process. And file is not generated.
I have used the RETURN statement while calling it from workflow method. What could be the reason for this??

Hi,
Calling transaction and Submit programs are usually reserved for dialog methods, where essentially all the workflow needs to do is take the agent to the transaction or program where the user can complete the business activity. For background methods usually call function modules or BAPIs are used where the business activity is performed automatically without any user involvement. Moreover it will help you in handling exceptions returned from Function modules. Also define the method exception explicitly based on the exceptions of FM, inorder to track it down if it occurs.

DYNPRO_SEND_IN_BACKGROUND dump when workflow executes a background task

Hi,
My project is currently in version 4.6. I have a custom version of the PO release workflow and in here I created an activity calling a Custom Task, which then calls a Custom Business Object Method and then calls a program (using Submit RSWUWFML2). Unfortunately everytime the workflow goes to the said activity it hits a dump -- DYNPRO_SEND_IN_BACKGROUND.
I've tried unchecking the flag "Advance with Dialog" inside the task but it didn't work. I know RSWUWFML2 most of the time should be scheduled in background but it just so happens that we have a certain scenario in which it should have a different body and subject. This is the reason why I opted to call it inside the workflow.
Do you have any idea what caused this? Thanks!

Hello Dan,
DYNPRO_SEND_IN_BACKGROUND is an exception which occurs when system tries to call screen in background. Calling screen in background is not possible.
Report RSWUWFML2 creates LIST at the end of this report which is nothing but a special type of screen. If you run this report as background task, definitely above exception will occur.
Schedule this report as job instead of using it in task.

Debug background task in custom workflow for PO change

Hi,
We are on ECC 6.0 EHP7.
I have a custom workflow for PO object type(delegated to std object type BUS2012).
There is a background task which has some custom code written and I need to debug this code.
Can someone please let me know how to debug a background task?

As suggested by ronen we can debug through swo1 but we have to pass values manually for importing parameters, by using sm50 also we can do debug and there is one more way to debug
if its custom task change background task to fore ground and change business object method also change it to fore ground and activate the work flow.
now change any po then it will stop at that step now take that work item id in swi1 and go to swia and execute after putting break point in that method of business object.
But best way to debug through infinite loop i.e sm50.

Which operating system are you using?
Resetting the photoshop preferences might cure the problem.
Press and hold down the Shift+Ctrl+Alt keys down just after starting the launch of photoshop 7
(Shift-Command-Option on a mac)
Keep holding the keys down until you get a dialog asking if you want to delete the adobe photoshop settings file
Press Yes
