Workflow Manager and SharePoint Designer publishing error

Hello all,
I'm hoping for some help in fixing this issue.
I've been trying to publish a workflow using SharePoint Designer only to find that I get this error:
"Errors were found when compilint the workflow. The workflow files were saved but cannot be run."
After clicking on the advanced button it shows error:
System.InvalidOperationException: Operation failed with error Microsoft.Workflow.Client.WorkflowCommunicationException: The request was aborted: The request was canceled. Client ActivityId : 6a78ad9c-6ac6-f03a-0680-003bd46e5f68. ---> System.Net.WebException:
The request was aborted: The request was canceled. ---> Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException: The requested operation requires an HTTPS (SSL) channel.
Ensure that the target endpoint address supports SSL and try again.
Target endpoint address:
Note: the message cuts off after the "Target endpoint address".
Looking on the SharePoint server, when I try and pull up the Workflow Manager site (https://localhost:12290/) I get this response:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
xmlns:i="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
<Code>AuthorizationError</Code><message><Message>The caller does not have the necessary
permissions required for this operation. Permissions granted: None. Required permissions: ReadScope.</Message></message></Error>
I am running this farm with HTTPS and I have registered the SP workflow service with the appropriate application. I have also set the Workflow Management Site bindings in IIS to utilize the same certificate as the default SharePoint site.
At this point, I don't know if the error that I received from Designer is related to the Site error, although I do know that I also have a Development environment that is able to publish workflows just fine. However, this farm uses HTTP rather than HTTPS
so I can only assume that the differences are what's causing the issue. I would appreciate any help that anyone can offer. Thanks!

Hi,
As I understand, you encountered the issue when you published a workflow on SharePoint 2013 workflow platform.
I wonder does it work well before when using 2013 workflow platform? If it works before, did you install any updates or change the configuration to the workflow related settings?
If this is the first time after you installed workflow manager 2013, then I’d recommend you try re-registering workflow service per the link below and post the result:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj663115(v=office.15).aspx
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj658588(v=office.15).aspx
From the message you accessed workflow host uri, please make sure the account to wfsetup and wfservice account are both in wfadmins group.

  • After installing and configuring Workflow Manager and Service Bus, I'm getting 403.

I've spent the day installing SharePoint 2013 on a Windows Server 2012 environment. This server is not the domain controller. Following instructions on how to install and configure Workflow Manager and service bus, it appears although I'm following the instructions
(and I get no errors), something is not working.
If I try to go to the website that it creates in IIS
http://localhost:12291 I get a 403 error. Also if I perform the powershell query to get the port number "Get-WFFarm | ft WFMgmtHttpPort" I don't get any value returned to me.
Until I validate that the Workflow Manager is installed and working, I will not attempt to pair it to the SharePoint 2013 farm. Which hopefully makes this a Workflow Manager question not a SharePoint issue.
Can anyone offer any suggestions please? Should I even get a valid webpage if I hit localhost:12291? According to one walkthrough I've looked at I should get an XML display of workflow and security configurations.

I experienced the same two issues mentioned in this thread today.
Regarding  the proper XML not appearing at <workflowhost>:12291 I was experiencing the same with an error message in Chrome saying the caller lacked read permissions, and 403 in IE. I had checked IIS, database permissions and connections and more.
All of the setup messages and status checks were a-okay. I voted Zimo's comment as helpful because it cued me in to examine the service in Central Administration - where I found there was no administrator assigned to the workflow service. As soon as that was
done, the workflow host site was brows-able.
The resolution to SharePoint Designer not offering 2013 workflows as an option was in my case that there was an additional WFE on which I had not installed the Workflow Manager
Client. This is noted with a bright yellow box in the section about configuring workflow with HTTP here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj658588(v=office.15)

  • Unable to Create Workflows with either SharePoint Designer 2010 or 2013 to our SharePoint Online Service

    Hey there
I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on our current issue using SharePoint Online (hope this question is in the correct place)
We are using SharePoint Online and I believe we are using the SharePoint Plan 1 for EDU - which I believe is the A2 Free plan.
I have being trying to get my head around the new changes (as we currently run a standalone 2010 deployment) and decided to see what workflow options I had.  I had read to use SharePoint Designer 2013 with the online service and after installation opened
the package, connected to the site and tried to create a simple email workflow.  I first saw a loading screen stating
"The list of workflow actions on the server references an assembly that does not exist. Some actions will not be available.  The assembly strong name is Microsoft.Activities, Version 1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=731bf3856ad364e35.
Contact your server administrator for more information."
after this it tried loading some metadata and then I saw:
Server-side activities have been updated. You need to restart SharePoint Designer to use the updated version of activities.
I close SPD down and rebooted and then same happened again and continues too.
After research I applied a hotfix that was known to resolve the issue, but it still remains.  I also tried running SPD in admin mode but the same still happens.
Lastly I tried selecting workflows 2010 from the drop down field when creating the workflow to see what happened.  I go the same.  I also keep getting the following as a pop from time to time.
The list of workflow actions on the server references an assembly that does not exist. Some actions will not be available.  The assembly strong name is Microsoft.Office.Workflow.Actions, Version=16.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c.
Contact your server administrator for more information.
I have also tried to do the same in SharePoint Designer 2010, but receive the same massages.
What should I be looking at or doing to help rectify this?
    Regards
    RDH

uninstalled Language Pack and it worked!
Uninstalling the Preview and installing SharePoint Designer 2013 resolved the error.

According to the link as linle provided, there are two deletions in local, please double check these two places:
1.Delete all folders in the following directory:
    C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SharePoint Designer\ProxyAssemblyCache\
2.Delete the files in all folders in this directory:
C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WebsiteCache\  (don’t delete the folders, just delete the contents of the folders)
Then, try to create a new workflow in SharePoint Designer 2013 to see if it works.
You can first keep the list for the current status, and save it as a template which will be used to create another list.
1.Login and locate the associated list on your SharePoint Online.
2.Click List Settings under List tab, and click Save list as template.
3.Type a File name, Template name, select Include Content, and click OK. Click OK.
    4.Click Site Actions->More Options->List.
5.Locate and click the newly saved template, type a name, and click Create.
Then, create a workflow in your SharePoint Designer 2010 associated to the new list to see if it works.
Moreover, please check if there are any maintenances on your SharePoint Online which may cause the issue.
    1.Login to Office 365 Portal (https://portal.microsoftonline.com/).
2.Click Service Health in the left pane of Admin page.
3.Check the status of SharePoint Online

  • Pairing Workflow Manager with SharePoint Online

    Hi everyone,
    I found
this post by Adis Jugo and I wondered if this is (or maybe is planned to be) supported in SharePoint Online?
I created custom code activity, used it in workflow (sharepoint app) and it works on SP 2013. What I want to do, if it is possible ofc, is to use the same sharepoint app in SP Online..
This is the tutorial which was followed to create Workflow CodeActivity..

    Hi Mahesh,
According to your description, my understanding is that you got an error when you register workflow manager for SharePoint 2013.
Firstly, please check whether you install SharePoint Developer tools Preview for VS 12. If yes, please uninstall it , and restart the server, then run Register-SPWorkflowService.
If this issue still exists, go to Central Administration, and check whether the web application is connected to Workflow service application proxy.

  • 2013 Workflows created in SharePoint Designer doesn't seems to work with retension policy!

Hi Guys, 2013 Workflows created in SharePoint Designer doesn't seems to work with retension policy but 2010 workflows work. Any One have any details resaon or workarround?

    Hi  ,
According to your description, I can reproduce your scenario in my SharePoint 2013.
For the Retention Policy, it will schedule how content is managed and disposed by specifying a sequence of retention stages. In SharePoint Designer Workflow 2013, we have looping option available. You can
use loop option and then pause for duration for achieving same function as Retention Policy to start a workflow.

    Hi All,
What is the difference between Windows Workflow Activities And SharePoint Workflow Activities in Workflows?
    Thanks in Advance!

    Hi,
Both are developed with .NET framework, per my knowledge, the biggest difference would be the environment they applied to: one for Windows platform, one for SharePoint platform:

  • I tried to implement photo albums using iweb and got a publishing error.

I tried to implement photo albums using iweb and got a publishing error. All was fine with my site until I added the photo album page. The software doesnt say what the error is exactly, only that it is a publishing error to my ftp
Exact message "There was an error communicating with the FTP server. Try again later, or check with your service provider."
If I reduce the albums inside to 1 then it seems to work but that takes away from the usefullness of multiple albums.
my iWeb version is 3.0.4 (601)

Publish your site to a folder on your hard drive to see if the publication will proceed successfully and open the site locally with your browser to confirm all of the alums are there and work.  If they do try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
If you're still not able to publish from iWeb to your server download and use the free  Cyberduck to upload your website files to the server. Users have found that CD has been successful when iWeb had problems.

What I have tried so far:
    a. Re-installed Workflow, Service Bus, Windows Fabric, Sharepoint Designer... no luck
    b. Run the configuration script... -Force enabled... no luck
    c. Remove WF Manager, SB, etc... Deleted all WF and sb Databases from SQL, and re-installed all icluding updates... no luck
    d. Tried to run services using Farm account, still no luck.
    e. All services on the Server are running as well
    f. The workflow is checked that it is associated with the site collection.
I don't know what else to try... seems like I am experiencing unique issue here... please help!

One last thing I can suggest - In case if you have installed CU Update for WF manager 1.0 and service bus. Some time that creates problem, [Please take backup before make any changes] -
    - Clear everything, WF config , SharePoint WF setting, un register WF from SP , You can delete and recreate WF service Apps
    - IISreset at WF and SP server
    - Uninstall CU update for Workflow manager 1.0 and Service Bus from WF server [Control Panel - Programs - Update], you can delete all update installed
    - ReStart WF server
    - Reconfigure WF manager , Test WF sites , should return XML
    Get-WFFarm | ft HttpPort
    - Reconfigure WF at SP , Make sure should have enough free memory
    Register-SPWorkflowService –SPSite "http://SPsite/" –WorkflowHostUri "http://WFServer:12291" –AllowOAuthHttp
http or https , depend on your configuration
    And retest from SPD again.
    Good luck:)

    Below is the solution.
    Solution:.
    check
list in workflow manager server  :
    1. Check https://[wfms]:12290 or http://[wfms]:12291 if they are responding 2. Check
”WorkflowMgmtPool” is started 3. Following services are running
    Workflow Manager Backend
    Service Bus Message Broker
    Service Bus Gateway
    Windows Fabric Host Service (FabricHostSvc)
    4. Get workflow farm information , workflow database  by  Start Workflow
Manager PowerShell     get-WFfarm   5. Check if the Workflow Manager farm running(workflow service backend and  front end         should be rennin)  by  Start Workflow Manager
    PowerShell    get-WFfarmStatus
    6. Check oAut in accessible by http:// [wfms]:12291/$SYSTEM/$Metadata/json/1
    7. Restart the WorkflowServiceBackend service
    net stop WorkflowServiceBackend
    net start WorkflowServiceBackend

  • When building a vacation leave holiday system using SharePoint Foundation 2010 and SharePoint Designer workflows how can I add half day functionality?

    Hi,
I have built a vacation leave holiday system for SharePoint Foundation 2010 using SharePoint Designer workflows and Javascript. Everything works perfectly but I'm struggling to design a solution for users to specify half day requests that span over dates
greater than 1 day, i.e. my half day solution works but only when the start and end date are the same. How would I change the user interface to allow users to choose which day they want the half day to be requested when the vacation leave holiday request is
    from, say,  6th - 10th Jan 2014?
    Thanks.

    Hi ,
I have a test on my machine with a custom approval workflow and it can work normally .Here are the detailed steps :
    1.
Open the site in SharePoint Designer .Create a workflow to associate with the document library .Set the workflow to start when an item is created and when an item is changed
.Also allow the workflow to start manually .
    2.
Choose ‘Collect Data from a user’ .
    3.
Click on the data and give a name to the Task created .
    4.
Define the custom form field name as ‘Approve ?’ .Set the information type as Choice .
    5.
Set the choices as ‘Approve’ and ’Reject’ .Display as Checkboxes .Uncheck the ‘Allow fill-in values’ and ‘Allow blank values’
    .Click finish to save .
    6.
Click on users and add the users who will approve the documents .
    7.
Keep the output to variable as collect .
    8.
Add a new step .Choose ‘If any value equals value ’ .Set the any value ‘Data source’ as  workflow variables and parameters .Set the ‘Field
from source’ as Variable: collect .
    9.
Set the value behind ‘equals ’ as ‘Approve’ .
    10.
Add a new action ‘Update list item ’ .Set the item as current item .Add the field Approval status as Approved .
    11.
Add an Else-if branch to update the Approval status as Rejected .
    12.
Publish the workflow and test in your site .
    Thanks,
    Entan Ming

  • Unable to download exe files after unblocking, 404 error. handler mappings execute change prevent infopath, export to excel, and sharepoint designer from working.

I removed .exe from the block list, checked MIME types, all ok,
    I followed this solution: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepoint2010setup/thread/b380a13e-a15f-4e32-98cd-12747538ad20?prof=required
( go into IIS (I am assuming IIS 7.0) and select the particular web site and click
handler mappings and Edit feature permissions and
    uncheck the Execute box .)
It works, I can now open exe files. But it causes other major troubles so far:
    -Cannot Export Lists to Excel
-Cannot Publish and Save InfoPath forms
-Cannot edit subsites in SharePoint Designer.
Does anybody have another solution that won't disable other features? What is the best way to do it? I have SolidWorks Edrawings in .exe that needs to be accessible.
    Thank you.
Guillaume Gagnon, MCP Senior System Administrator Forensic Technology WAI Inc.

    Hi Guillaume,
As you know, if we remove the Execute permission for handle mappings, we will be able to download .exe file from SharePoint server. But as you said, this will cause other issues.
The another solution to allow to download .exe file is remove the CGI-exe handle mapping from the handle mappings directly. You may need to restart Internet Information Server(IIS). After that, we will be able to download .exe file directly.
    Open the IIS manager
Select the site from the "Sites" tree
    Double-click "Handle Mappings"
Right-click "CGI-exe", and then click "Remove"
    Thanks,

  • SharePoint Online: Organization Browser fault and SharePoint-Designer-Error

    Hello,
    I have two Problems:
Firstly, the Organization Browser-WebPart is not viewed correctly. The Managers are not displayed on this WebPart. On SharePoint User-Profile I can see, that a Manager is availible for everyone.
I wanted to delete this WebPart and paste it again, but I get a Error, if i want to edit the Person.aspx or personimmersive.aspx with SharePoint Designer:
    Object moved.
    Object moved to here.
    Can everyone help me?
    Best Regards,
    Atakhan

    Hi Atakhan,
Assuming you're synching with Active Directory and there are no issues with the synch connection,
I can speak to your first part, the organization browser web part, if not modified, but rather OOB, gets it's data from the Organization tab of the user object in active directory.  On the organization tab, there is a field for manager for each user,
and a field for direct reports (e.g. in the event the person is a manger).
Check that tab in active directory for one of your users and you'll see if is correct.
Sorry, cant speak too much to editing the system pages directly.  Other than you should avoid that practice.
And best way to approach that is to change the master page they pull from and make your edits on a COPY of the master page, not on the original.

Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.ResourceNotFoundException: Cannot find resource for the request sp.utilities.utility.ExpandGroupsToPrincipals
An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the workflow instance.
       Exception details: System.ApplicationException: HTTP 404 {"error":{"code":"-1, Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.ResourceNotFoundException",

I was not able to find any answer anywhere, so my solution was:
    1. Simply upgrade SharePoint Server 2013 to the latest version which in turn updates Microsoft.Activities.Proxy.dll
    2. Clear the SharePoint Designer cache
Workflow Error - Sharepoint Designer cannot display the item
