Workgroup Manager doesn't show groups in drawer

OSX Server 10.6.8 on an Xserve.
Trying to migrate (manually) a 10.5 setup to a 10.6 system. I exported WM users, then imported them. On the surface all looks well.
On the 10.6 system, viewing the list of users, I select a user, then the Groups tab. I want to add this user to another group. I click the [+] to view the groups list in the drawer, but the list is empty, even in response to a search.
I've eliminated WM prefs, I've restarted, etc etc. I've worked on a dozen systems, never have seen this. Related to the import maybe?
Need some ideas on how else to poke at this. Thx.

Exporting the user list does not export the group list, or any related user info.  Including passwords.
The only sure way to export and import users and groups with any automation is by using the archive feature in the OpenDirecroty tab in server admin.
Do you still have the old 10.5 system?  If so, run the archive.
On your new computer, demote the server to standalone.  Then promote it to master.
Restore your archive on the 10.6 machine, and you should be back up and running.

  • Workgroup Manager doesn't show all group members

    Hello,
Workgroup Manager does not display all members of certain a certain group I defined a while ago. I figured out that it is very likely that the group record is corrupt - or at least it is not interpreted the right way anymore.
What confused me are the different (Open Directory?) Attributes that could have to do with the problem:
    dsAttrTypeStandard:GroupMembers
    dsAttrTypeStandard:GroupMembership
    dsAttrTypeStandard:Member
    dsAttrTypeNative:memberUid
    dsAttrTypeNative:apple-group-memberguid
I searched the UserManagement_Adminv10.4B.pdf for those keywords, but there is nothing in it. A Google search was of no help, either. Can someone help me with that?
    Cheers,

  • Am told firefox is already running , but task manager doesn't show it

am told firefox is already running , but task manager doesn't show it. I installed Firefox 3.6.10 on a new computer (win 7 home premium), deleted the profile given and copied my old profile in its place (win vista premium). I get the above message and am told to close the existing process, or restart the system. Can't close and restarting doesn't help. Please solve this for me, i so don't want to use Internet Explorer

g'day people... a dude called "moopenguin32" showed me the way... alleluia
    1. Copy your Firefox shortcut (what you click on to open Firefox) to the Desktop.
    2. Right-click on it and click on Properties.
    3. Go to the end of the text in the "Target" field. The end will say: firefox.exe"
    4. Enter a space followed by: -profilemanager
    5. The end result will look something like this: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -profilemanager
    6. Click OK to save the settings.
    7. Double-click on the shortcut you just changed.
    8. Delete the profile listed. It shouldn't matter that you're deleting it because you're trying to restore a profile anyways. You should have the profile you're trying to restore saved elsewhere.
    9. Close the profile manager.
    10. Start Firefox using your regular shortcut. Firefox should open properly. Close Firefox.
    11. Now to restore your profile, open the profile folder you have backed up and copy the contents of it rather than the actual folder.
    12. Go to your existing Firefox profile and open it.
    13. Delete the contents of the existing Firefox profile.
    14. Paste the contents of the Firefox profile that you're trying to restore (the one you copied in step 11).
    15. Open Firefox and everything should be there (including your extensions).

  • Workgroup Manager doesn't create home directories for OD accounts

I'm having an issue where home directories aren't created for OD accounts. My setup is as follows, the home directories are stored on the OD Master (the only Apple/OD/AD server on the network), and the home directory paths are filled as afp://192.168.1.254/Customers, fakeuser, /Users/Customers/fakeuser
This same pathing scheme works fine for local accounts, however for OD, clicking Create Home Directory and saving the account does nothing (no errors, nor folders created). If I ftp into said account, I wind up being directed to /Users (definitely not the expected behaviour)
I am deploying a web based upload system that I want to authenticate against OD users so as to share home folders and permissions with the ftp server, once I have this figured out I will be migrating a bunch of accounts to OD from local.

In addition to potential DNS issues, it sounds like you may be using the wrong procedure to define the users' home directories. You should never have to specify the paths manually; instead, define the share point ("Customers" in your case) to be automounted, and then it should automatically show up in the list of available home folder locations, with all the necessary paths predefined. Here's the full procedure:
    1. Run Server Admin, and select: the server name in the sidebar -> File Sharing in the toolbar -> Volumes & Browse under that -> navigate to the /Customers folder in the column view.
    2. Make sure the folder is being shared (with it selected, you should see an "Unshare" button near the top right of the window); if not share it with the Share Button (then Save the change).
    3. Select the Share Point tab under the file browser (NOT the one above it), and select the Enable Automount checkbox. A dialog will open asking for the automount details; make sure the Directory is set to /LADPv3/127.0.0.1, Protocol to AFP, and Use for is User home folders and group folders. OK the dialog, and be sure to click Save to make the change take effect.
    4. Run Workgroup Manager, and select Accounts in the toolbar -> Users (single person icon) tab under that -> some user account(s) you want to configure under that -> Home tab on the right.
    5. Select (None) from the location list and click Save (this wipes out any current setting, so we can rebuild it correctly).
    6. The Customers share point should be in the list of available locations (due to being configured for automount); select it, then click Create Home Now, and finally Save.

  • Workgroup Manager doesn't affect app restrictions

    Hi
I've set up a new mac mini with Lion Server, and a new iMac with Lion. I configured a set of network accounts on the Lion Server (its a directory master) using Workgroup manager. I set a group heirarchy for (lets just say for example) "thefamily" with subgroups "theadults" and "thekids". I downloaded the Workgroup Manager app and installed on the iMac, where I used it to connect back to the Lion Server Open Directory and set up application restrictions for "theKids". I set up all accounts in "thefamily" to create mobile accounts. I created a "testkid" account as a member of "thekids" group and logged in via the iMac. Log-in and home-sync seemd to go OK BUT all the applications that I had restricted in Workgroup Manager are still accessible! What can I do to fix this?
    Thanks

Make sure your user accounts are network accounts. (You need to configure OpenDirectory via the Users Next Steps tab in Server app on the server, then create user accounts from the Server app.)
Place the restrictions on the Network accounts.
Log everyone off of the iMac, then log in using a local admin account on the iMac.
Make sure the iMac is connected to the right OpenDirectory server. Also make sure that network logins are allowed and displayed on the login screen.
Log out of the iMac and log back in as a network user. You will need to click the Other button on the login screen, then type in the network user name and password.
This, in theory, should be the necessary steps to make the restrictions work. From what your description I am guessing you were placing restrictions on local accounts (which also show up in Workgroup Admin), and unless you set up OpenDirectory, there won't be any network accounts in LION. (At least that has been my experience so far.)
Hopefully this was able to help you somewhat.

  • I use Firefox to access the internet-but when I go off the internet but don't shut down, then go back on Firefox it won't open because "it is already running". Task Manager doesn't show that it is operating so I can't shut it off. What to do?

It is in the question but to repeat.
    1. When I go online I use Mozilla Firefox
    2. While I am doing other work, I usually close the internet.
    3. If I go back on the internet and click on Mozilla it won't come up, stating that "it is already running".
    4. Despite that, when I open Task Manager, it doesn't show that it is running so I can't shut it down or open it.
    5. If I log off or shut off the computer, then after I log in or reboot the computer, I can open Mozilla.
    Thanks from a Mozilla fan.

  • Workgroup Manager won't show available volumes/folders to setup share point

Server 10.4.11: open Workgroup Manager and select the Sharing panel.
Clicking the "Share Points" tab displays my current share points as expected.
But clicking the "All" tab shows a +completely blank window+: no volumes or folders at all!
(The button at the bottom to mount or unmount a remote NFS volume appears, but I've never used it and I don't know what good it might be.)
Accessing the server with the 10.5 version of Workgroup Manger from a Leopard client gives the same behavior.

Never mind. Rebooted the machine and it's back to normal. Go figure.

  • Application Manager doesn't show all apps

When launching the Application Manager it starts up great but all apps does not show.
When logging in to my account at Adobe and click "Try" on Premiere Pro, the application manager opens up but there is no sign of Premiere.
Same thing with SpeedGrade and After Effects.
What's wrong? Why doesn't all apps show?

We had that problem and when I asked tech support he asked me whether I had a 64-bit OS. If you don't, Premiere Pro doesn't show up since it's a 64-bit application. If you do have a 64-bit OS, then you have a different problem and should probably contact tech support.
    Good luck!

  • Device Manager doesn't show AMD Radeon Graphics

My Pavilion dm4-3002sa has dual graphics, Intel[R] HD Graphics Family and AMD Radeon. Earlier this year AMD Radeon disapeared from the Device Manager and since than Laptop has only used Intel Graphics.
I have done clean install of an Operating System, Windows 7 (64bit), but the AMD Radeon doesn't show.
Does this mean that the card has failed, and if you have any suggestion, it would be appreciated.
On different, probably unconnected subject, the laptop is very hot at the top left corner. Would this have something to do with dust blocking the vents, and if so, does anyone have any suggestions?
    With thanks.

    Hello @draganmikki ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand your AMD GPU is no longer showing up on your notebook.
Have you tried showing the hidden devices in Device Manager and checking the Other Devices section to see if a "Display Adapter" is listed? This could be the card missing drivers. I would suggest updating the chipset drivers, and then uninstalling the Intel GPU. Once uninstalled reinstall with the download from our website. After the Intel card is installed, run the 7470m installer.
You can find the drivers for your notebook here: HP Pavilion dm4-3002sa Notebook PC Drivers.
Regarding the heat, try this: Reducing Heat Inside the PC to Prevent Overheating.
If the card is still not detected, you're most likely looking at a hardware issue. I would suggest calling HP Phone Support for service options if this is the case. You can contact HP Technical Support at 1-800-474-6836 in North America. For all other regions click here.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Experience Manager doesn't show left nav to browse the pages/content collection

    Hi,
We are using Endeca Experience Manager with ATG 11.0. We have created application and triggered baseline update successfully, all the steps are successful.
When we open Experience Manager it doesn't show the pages/content which will create by default with Discovery data/pages.
    Please help us on this.
    Thanks in advance,

    Thanks for the reply Tim,
We tried to access in both Chrome and FF, both doesn't show the left nav. We are suspecting that this could be issue with editors or application issue.

  • Hyper V Manager doesn't show all nodes

I have 5 nodes in HyperV... Say HV01,02,03,04,05 which shows correctly in Fail over Cluster Manager. But it doesn't show up in HyperV Manager.
The HyperV Manager just shows 3 Nodes, say 01,02,03. What could be the possible issue?
A reply will be highly appreciated....

Hyper-V manager shows only servers you added manually to the console. You need to add missing nodes manually (right click on 'Hyper-V Manager' -> Connect to Server)

  • IPod CONTACTS doesn't show GROUPS

I just got a new iPod Video 80GB, partly because it can sync addresses from my Mac's Address Book.
However, I have not been able to see GROUPS in the CONTACTS and have to scroll though a lot of addresses to find anyone. How can you set iPod preferences to show groups, or can you?
If the iPod can't show GROUPS in CONTACTS, I recommend that Apple fix this.
    Thank you

  • Network Manager doesn't show available wireless connections

I have Arch set up on a laptop. I've used it for about a month around the house without a problem. Today I did a little "road tripping," and was surprised to find that network manager wasn't showing me any wireless connections. There were no errors shown, just no connections were offered when I went to places that I know have wireless available. My experience with other distro's is that network manager will show a sidebar with the available wireless connections and let me choose whether I want to connect or not. But when I went into a coffee shop or restaurant, nothing showed up offering anything. I took a look at the network manager and wireless wiki's and didn't see anything that I might have missed during the installation. What tells network manager that there are wireless networks available?

    Hi
    +". . . they are exactly the same clone . . ."+
This might be where your problem begins and ends? If you joined client # 1 to OD and then cloned this to create client # 2 then you're probably going to have the problems you're seeing?
If you want all your workstations to be the same it's best to remove any references to any LDAP Server as well as any TGTs. It's also a good idea to give each client workstation unique names prior to joining an LDAP Directory after they've been imaged. You can create a NetBoot Image with an associated workflow that will define unique names as well as join an LDAP Directory as Post Install actions.
The above assumes you actually meant to post in the appropriate Snow Leopard Forum rather than the 10.4 one? Perhaps you should have posted here:
