Working on books on multiple computers

Is there a way to copy iphoto books from computer to computer?
I have an imac at home and an ibook that I take on my 2 hour commute. I'd love to be able to work on creating books in iphoto6 during my commute and then copy the books back to my imac at home when I'm done (I could order them from the ibook, but ultimately I'd like to consolidate it to my iphoto library on the imac). It seems, to keep people from using iphoto books and printing them someplace else, it is impossible to transfer them from computer to computer. Is there a way around this? I simply want to get better use out of my commute...
imac G5, ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Jesse:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Yes, that can be done. What I suggest is to duplicate your library, open it with iPhoto (launch with Option key depressed) and then delete all of the photos that you're sure you won't want in the book. This should reduce it considerable so that it will fit on a CD. Copy the iPhoto Library folder to the CD with the Finder. DO NOT do it from within iPhoto itself. Then upload that folder (renamed aptly Book Folder or whatever, to your other Mac and open with iPhoto.
If it's frequent you could get a CD-RW disk or better yet get a flash drive, format it for the Mac, and use that. That would facilitate frequent edits and transfers.
I always create a new library for my books and then use iPhoto Library Manager to transfer the photos I need (via an album) to the book library. When done with the order I burn that folder to a CD for archiving and future repeat orders if necessary.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Hotmail isn't working on firefox on multiple computers

I have been trying to navigate to hotmail.com and the page simply turns up blank. I am very tempted to switch to IE though I would rather not. I've tried to get this to work on more than one computer but it seems to be a universal problem.
== URL of affected sites ==
    http://www.hotmail.com

I have had this nagging problem several times. Each time more frustrating than the last.
'''PDF''''s. If you have a .pdf page open in Firefox (as often happens when looking at brochures and whatnot from websites) the mousepad side scroll function will not work. Plugging in an external usb device works just fine, making the situation that much more aggravating.
Simply close any windows or tabs from Firefox that are displaying .pdf's, and the blood pressure "should" return to normal values. If your blood pressure doesn't return to a satisfactory value, see your family doctor. He'll probably ensure your continued trust in Firefox is still better than any experience with explor.er.

  • How can I sync Bridge between multiple computers at work with keywords/collections/search?

We've been trying to find a digital asset management platform at work for a while now and I recently came across Bridge (we have the Creative Cloud). It's perfect! Except we're all on a bunch of different computers and would need to be able to search the same keywords/collections all from the same server (the photos are in many different folders though). Is there a way to be able to sync all keywords etc on multiple computers? Or if someone opens Bridge and can search right away without having to make all the keywords persistent by finding each photo and clicking on it? We're all on the same Creative Cloud team.

I actually did already create a book with all the files in it, but I couldn't figure out how that was helpful. The hyperlink panel doesn't seem to have any "book" options (unless I'm looking in the wrong place?) and just linking to the different files (after creating the book) didn't have any different results than linking to the files before I created the book.
I thought maybe linking to the different files in the book would work if I could export the whole book to pdf at once (which would be super-helpful in and of itself), but that doesn't seem to be an option either.
I guess what I'm asking is for you to elaborate on what to do after creating the book.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
My wife just got a new mac book pro today with the Leopard install disk.
I have a mac book pro with Tiger on it. Can I use her disk to install Leopard on my computer, or do I need to buy a separate Leopard install disk for me?

  • Creative Cloud multiple computers

Little confuses about how multiple computers work.
Here's my situation, I have my primary computer (mac book pro) I travel with & will be using Creative cloud on, but for the next 4 months I'm in england and spending 4 days a week living with a family & I have a desktop Mac that I use at there house. When I go back to Canada can I use (set) another secondary computer? Will I have to manually delete the adobe programs off this computer before I leave? Hope this makes sense, thanks.

I'm in the same kind of questioning. I'm working in the US, on a Mac Pro, and I have also a Mac Book Pro with which I also work sometime.
Now I also have a workstation in France, where I come from. So far my personal softaware licences were installed on it, and on my laptop... And I was using a compagny softaware licence in the US (the compagny I work for).
With the creative cloud being - well - in the cloud - I remember reading punch lines such as " everywhere" or "anywhere"... I though it was going to be THE sollution for me. Running the apps according to the custumer using it, not according to the actual computer where it is installed, which would appear to be a model of the past.
Actually it would make sens. When you buy a softaware, you buy a service; nothing physical. So it would really makes sens in 2012 that you can walk and sit at any computer and be able to use your rights to use the software.
But for what I understand reading this thread, the Creative Cloud works just the same way as traditional Creative Suit licencing : 2 computers only (not being used at the same time - obviously making sens)...
Now, what about multiple customer on ONE machine?
Can you instal the Creative Clouds apps, and log in before to start to work? So you get your files.
    Let me draw an example:
If I walk to a friend's office, and he is a CC customer, and I am too. Can I just sit at his desk, log out of his account, log in into my own account, and now being able to open my projecst that are on my cloud to start discussing creating talks with him, while we are actually looking at my documents, opened in their respective apps on his desktop?
    Does it make sens?

  • Multiple Computers on the same network

We're currently transitioning to Windows 8.1 MRD after many years running OSX and ARD in our small office.
We have two computers that we need to access independently from the outside. We opened up the recommend port for MRD and have it working as expected on a single computer. However, we can only gain access to a single machine from the outside. With Apple Remote
Desktop, you simply open up additional ports to allow access for multiple machines. Super easy. We decided to do the same with MRD, but failed with everything we attempted.
Does MRD not support using custom ports for multiple computers?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
We can achieve the result as you want with remote desktop connection. We need to allow the port from firewall end and can apply particular rules with advanced option for specific ports. Also if you are using Routers then need to open the port from router end,
and finally when connecting user “servername:portnumber” and provide credentials.
Please checkthis article for more details.
    Hope it helps!

  • Syncing to multiple computers

when syncing my ipod touch to my computer at work, it deletes everything stored from my home computer. what am i doing wrong?

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. In this mode you can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:

  • Using Messages with Multiple Users and Multiple Computers

I have two users who share two different computers, switching between them during the day.
I'd like to use messages on them for us to send text messages in the office, however, it asks them on logging in (most, but not everytime) to re-enter their apple id password.  It seems that using icloud for messages among multiple computers like this isn't good.  its like it wants each computers to be linked with a particular user, and doesn't like it that the users are moving around from computer to computer
    Options to avoid this nuisance?
    1.  Would bonjour messaging work, and then just remove the icloud account from messages?
    2.  How about setting up the message server on my ML Server, would that avoid this problem?

I'd say probably make sure that in the advanced tab under edit>preferences you should make sure they both point to the same file.
My turn now, how to i post a thread, there's no button.

  • Pop up box in yahoo mail won't close, asks "do you use the yahoo! toolbar on multiple computers?" has option buttons but no response when clicking on anything, pop up box just sits there in the way

whenever I open my yahoo mail when using Firefox, a pop up box appears on the upper left side of the screen, it asks the question "do you use the yahoo! toolbar on multiple computers?" and gives click boxes for "Save to my yahoo ID" and "No thanks, just save to this computer". I get no response to clicking on either box, nor will the pop up close if I click on the "X" in the upper right corner of this pop up. It won't close out and it sits right over the top of the email messages in my inbox. All else seems to work fine, but can't get rid of this pop up box....very annoying.

  • Syncing the same iTunes library among multiple computers

I have two computers, a Windows 7 laptop and a new iMac. iTunes on both computers are signed into the same Apple ID. I currently have my iTunes library on my laptop, but I would like to also have the exact same library on my iMac. For instance, if I download a new podcast to my laptop, it should be placed on my iMac as well. When I delete the podcast, it should be deleted on the iMac too. When song metadata is updated on my laptop (play count, lyrics, etc), I want it updated on the iMac automatically.
I have not had much experience with Home Sharing, but would that do all of this automatically? I know I could manually transfer songs from one computer to the other using Home Sharing, but what about updated metadata or deleting files?
iCloud has made this situation more interesting. I know iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match will keep music files in sync among various devices (including metadata?), but what about podcasts or movies or files not purchased via iTunes? I know there are plenty of details that are yet to be released concerning iCloud, but do you think it will solve this problem entirely, or will manual labor be required to obtain the exact same library among multiple computers?
I have considered only using my iMac to maintain my library, since it is always on and I could use Home Sharing to listen to music on my laptop since they are on the same Wifi network. However, I feel it would be best to keep the same library on two computers for when I take my laptop on vacation away from my home network.
What would you suggest for this situation?
    Thanks!

sorry about the slight irrelevence of this post on this thread....i saw this much older post you had in my explorations and it is almost to a "T" my issue currently and i was wondering if you ever came to a conclusion or had any tips or resolution paths i could explore. your original message:
I have 2 computers I'd like to set up Home Sharing on. One is Windows XP and the other is Windows 7.
I set it all up but then the libraries never show up. Nothing happens.
The computers are on the same network and I can successfully share files and a printer. Both computers are      authorized using the same account. Both are signed into that account.
I don't know why it's not working. Can you please help?
              Thanks!!
is EXACTLY my problem with the only variable being that both of my computers run 7. furthermore, you went on to say you were experiencing issues with the "remote" app. that was the initial objective for me in my system that got me here with a deeper problem with home share. i want to home share my itunes library and control it from my iPod touch 4g. is that such an unreasonable request?!?!? lol. i'm incredibly frustrated and was hoping that since you had such specifically similar circumstances....have you found a solution? PLEASE HELP!!! thank you so much for your time.

  • Installing os lion on multiple computers? Here's how...with a catch

Chris here again, from the iTunes Support team. I want to thank you for your quick response.
First off any computer this applies too needs to have the Mac App store on it, to share the app that you purchased  you will need to log into the account that you first purchased Mac OS X Lion on in the first place to and then redownload the app onto the new computer and install it. This applies  to any app that you wish to share on another computer.
Apps from the Mac App Store may be used on any Macs that you own or control for personal use. You may be asked for your Apple ID and password the first time you use an app. You won't have to provide them again unless you use the app on a different computer or there is an update.
This does not apply to purchasing other apps as you can have multiple account on one compute, once again, the only exception would be if there was an update, then you will be require to provided the username and password of the account that the app in this case Mac OS X Lion was purchased on.
I hope that I have been able to clarify things for you.  If you have any further questions, please let me know and I would be more than happy to address them for you.

So wait. To download other apps I wouldn't have to be logged into the computer using the initial os lion accounts I'd? If I get lion and i log into the other computer and select install from the purchase history, after authorizing of course, I won't have to log into my account, the one initially used to buy and install lion, to buy and install other apps onto the other computer?

Moving forward,  I understand that you would like to get some answers about installing OS X - Lion onto another computer. I can definitely appreciate how eager you are to get some answers to your questions. I would be happy to assist you today in this matter.
I do first need to mention that I was unable to open the link that you have provided  and thus unable to address any concerns related to that discussion.
You can redownload any apps including Lion that  you have purchased from the Mac App Store without incurring additional charges.
To learn how to redownload apps on the Mac App Store, please refer to the steps in this article:
Mac App Store: Backing up your app purchases

If you continue to have difficulty downloading any applications, please reply to let me know or consult this article:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3624
So in summary, yes after you have initially downloaded it you can then goto another computer that you have access to and redownload it and install it there. That computer will have to be apart of your authorized computers which again is up to 5 authorized machines at one time per account. This is shared with iTunes so five maximum for both, as far as what I believe the store rep meant fur OS updates you would need to log into the account the OS was purchased to get upgrades.
Other than taking up one of the authorized computers this should have no other affect on your purchasing ability. If you have any issues with this or more questions, please let me know and I would be more than happy to address them for you.

(note) for some reason this link doesn't work...
    sorry for the gigantic link....
Basically, to download on multiple macs without buying 3 times I would :
    1. buy and install on my mac
    2. log into my account (the one i bought lion on)
    3. authorize my account for use on my parent(s)' computer(s) (do i need to do this? didn't get this question answered)
    4. either check purchase history for os lion or click buy now while logged into the account I initially bought it with and install on that computer
From what i've gathered from the store representative I've found that I need to use the account I got lion under for any further purchases on that computer. Is this true? If so does it affect iTunes at all (buying music and such)?
Are these steps valid and legal? There has been talk about doing it like this
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15676536#15676536
here is a discussion on the matter.
    END OF EMAIL SECTION
    HERE ARE THE SUMMERIZED STEPS:
    1. go ahead and buy/download os lion on the account of your choice (make sure you know that this account needs to be used whenever you want to download os lion on multiple computers)
    2. before going on, perhaps backing up the installer file upon completion of download would be good. This applies to people who have spotty internet as the installer file apparently disappears (self destructs) after installation but you can always re-download for free using the account initially used to install/buy/download.
    3. Go to the computer you wish to install os lion on. Open up itunes then log into itunes using the same account that you used to purchase lion on. then go to the store tab at the top left of the screen (there should be an apple symbol, then iTunes in bold then there should be a tab further along the right side called store. and, under that, go to authorize this computer. If you do this and it says it's already authorized then thats good.
    4. Open up the mac app store. Log into the account used to initially purchase lion. Go to purchase history and click install.
Now here is the catch. According to an email sent by an apple representative for the mac app store, there are limiations:
"This is what i had said before receiving the email: what i mean is that the computers in question belong to family members and not to me. I would not use them."
In this matter, I will quote you the terms and conditions of the mac app store that the Mac OS X Lion is bound by,  Apps from the Mac App Store may be used on any Macs that you own or control for personal use. You may be asked for your Apple ID and password the first time you use an app. You won't have to provide them again unless you use the app on a different computer.
Since you are indicate that there will be no use or control and then no it would be a violation of the terms and condition, if there was some personal use well then it would meet the conditions  If you have any further questions, please let me know and I would be more than happy to address them for you. Thank you very much for being part of the iTunes Store family, Dylan, and I hope you have a great day.
This means that if you are not using this method for personal use on your OWN computer it is a violation of terms of service. For example: there is a feature in OS lion that allows you to drag and drop files from one computer with lion to another computer with lion. If you were to do that so you could store files on another family members computer (and then proceed to access them now and then) it is ok.

yes you would have to log onto her computer using your own apple id if you want it to update (assuming your id was the one downloading lion) and no for the second question. The itunes Representative said it shouldn't have any impact on your purchasing ability.....
By the way, i don't think you're allowed to install lion on your friend's computer. Unless you are using it for yourself. As the rep said "if there was some personal use well then it would meet the conditions." so if you were to transfer, say, pictures for storage on your friend's computer then i think it'd be fine.
