Working with creative suites

Question

I am wondering if anyone has experienced not being able to size a vector drawing copied from that program and placed into the layout software. Yes, I realize that this is not a specific Mac question, however, creative Mac OS operators and their forum is far more responsive and user friendly than most creative suite suppliers.
The specific odd behavior is putting the curser in the corner and then with a command-shift dragging the bound lines to a smaller size. It happens visually but springs back to original size upon letting go. Been doing this for fifteen years or so, this is kinda wierd, have I forgotten something?

I just purchased a new last-generation 17" MacBook Pro with 2GB RAM 320GB drive and FireWire 400 and 800 ports, for around $1800. There are some available with 7200RPM drives and High-Resolution screens for around $2200. The battery is removable, not built-in like the UniBody 17" models.
This last-gen model can only take 4GB maximum, but OWC (eshop.macsales.com) sells a customized 6GB or 8GB (can't remember for sure which). The UniBody 17" can take 8GB.
Yes, AppleCare, by all means. It's saved me plenty, like other folks report, on my TiBook.
Search pcprices.com for Mac prices from many vendors. Apple has new and refurbished models. I bought from an Apple-authorized vendor who doesn't charge sales tax instead.
Buy-It-Now and auction-bidded prices usually end up around $180, much better than retail! Some vendors advertise other coverage plans that actually add 3 years to the first year coverage (not 2 extra years like AppleCare.) You can usually bargain them down quite far if the price seems out of line. They claim to also cover accidental damage, and I think theft, too. I almost got one because the sales person said they're as ubiquitous as MacDonald's, but I cancelled the order when I couldn't find any store-fronts in my state. I don't recall any negative reviews of their service, but I wanted a carry-in option
Search Google and eBay for AppleCare from vendors whose positive feedback is 99+% and who have sold many hundreds or thousands of items. When you pick a vendor, search Google for the vendor name reviews. Some bums have hijacked or faked good vendor sites and are really scammers - the search for reviews usually turns them up.
Pay with PayPal with credit card absolutely, for best protection.
